Great info on Jax! As someone who presently lives about an hour north of Miami, it sounds like Jax is the same as any other big city. Hopefully the city officials will allow the police to get it under control sooner rather than later.

Sorry to say this but our family of 4 WILL BE LEAVING FLORIDA SOON….Why would a NATIVE FLORIDAN who has raised a family plan on leaving: 1) I no longer identify with the extreme direction of the political ideology being shoved down my throat! 2) My condo, while still affordable, is being dragged further into expenses with governmental rules that are too extreme and are not placed on single family homes exposed to the same conditions; 3) While there is extreme weather virtually everywhere and Ian 13 miles inland and in higher ground, the weather will eventually swallow up our property too. So long Florida, I will miss many things, but I and my family, will be in a safer area of the country!

I have/had relatives all over that town. Been there MANY times.. Being from the Mountains of WNC, I simply couldnt wait to leave there as fast as I possibly could! Cant drink the water heat thunderstorms of Biblical proportions, muggy, I cant think of one redeeming quality of Palatka FLA. St Augustine....Different story, ST Augustine and parts of OCALA were the only two places in that entire state I could stand to stay more than a few minutes.

We are moving out of Kissimmee in the next 2 months. Let me tell you about insurance rates. Our home was purchased in 2012 and was 2,100 per year back then. It's now right at 15k now per year! Our car insurance is insane. I own 4 cars, most old and the insurance alone almost doubled this year. The first 6 months it was 577 per month, now it's 924 per month. That's over 11k in car insurance now. My wife's job collapsed so we have to move as there was no other jobs in the Orlando area for her and she tried. We took this as a sign it was time to RUN out of the area like the other old timers have done and head up to Kentucky where it's dirt cheap to live in the Western side of the state. Homes are very very cheap and car insurance/home insurance is still less than nothing. My wife will actually make more in KY vs Orlando and we will be spending far less and not dealing with bumper to bumper traffic. Kissimmee has turned into NY/NJ and no one here is born and raised Floridian anymore. They all left for Tenn and NC. Get out while you can and keep that money in your pocket. Less stress and headaches.

You buy a house for the first year...house insurgence is almost 8K second years jumps to 16K. Car insurance is almost 6K second year is 9K. Groceries are above 17% nation average. Other regulars stuff are 20% national average. Florida is a DUMP.

I'm in Vero Beach. Milton itself did hardly any damage. Milton's spin-off tornados caused the most destruction in our area. These were EF-3s.
