    Hi thank you for this your explanation is the best iv come across.. I'm new and trying to make my own products.. I'm so confused by aqueous tinctures.. I'm wanting to add it to distilled white vinegar eco cleaner.. using herbs with antimicrobial/antibacterial properties for add strength and also to make it go further.. how long can aqueous tinctures /water extract keep for if no digesting and if digesting ( would also like to try make a silver tincture - using colloidal silver and aqueous extracts method) x

    • @witchnursesteph
      @witchnursesteph  Год назад

      Hi Jo! To answer your question- tinctures last an indefinite amount of time if they have at least 40% alcohol content. Another option you could explore is infusing the white vinegar with whatever herb you're working with (I've done this with rosemary and thyme for cleaning purposes). I'm not sure that you would get high enough of a concentration for your cleaner to benefit if you were just using tinctures unless it's a significant portion of your cleaner. Great questions!

    It was nice. So, how can we get minerals from herbs like alfalfa through alcohol based tinctures?

    • @witchnursesteph
      @witchnursesteph  5 лет назад

      I usually use 40-60 proof alcohol, which has some water content and will extract minerals... however, if mineral consumption is your goal, I would suggest going with an infusion, which you can drink by the quart and actually get the necessary amount. Hope this helps!

      Thanks very much. My another inquiry is how to make a concentrated herbal tinctures to get the active ingredients enough to be effective. For example, to be effective in lowering blood glucose level in diabetic patients, it needs to take more than 10 grams of Fenugeek a day for sufficient active ingredient Saponins. So , if any diabetic patient wants to have Fenugeek tinctures instead(alcohol based), s/he needs to take about one oz of Fenugeek tinctures(assume 1:2 ratio) per day. Is it practical? Moreover, if s/ he wants to have other tinctures alongside such as cinnamon, ginseng, gymnema sylvestre etc, it would be rather impractical. Too much alcohol would be the problem then, even-if taking with hot water. In this complicated situation, I am thinking whether any solution for this problem as in herbal tinctures??

      Honestly... why not try making both and see what your body thinks? The thing I love about root vinegars is that it really makes all of the minerals more bioavailable than a tincture would, plus the vinegar itself helps with absorption. Dosing depends on so many factors and ought to be guided by a clinical herbalist working with YOU.
