Absolutely agree with you. We need a new small M43 camera in 2024. I'm amazed there hasn't been one released yet. It seems like so many people are chomping at the bit for an updated, small form factor M43 camera. My fingers are crossed that we'll see one before the end of the year. Panasonic, OM, if you're listening, please make this happen.

Weather sealing is the key. This is an area where S9 didn’t cut
It as a ‘fun’ camera for me. Can’t take an unsealed camera to the beach, pool, snow, camping, bar, etc.

My vote: G85 body with 20MP sensor and the new autofocus. Not quite as small as you are thinking, but very well-matched to either of the 12-60mm zooms, or the 8-25mm zoom.
The G85 was a better camera than the 100 because it didn’t crop in for video.

Gx9 successor with weather sealing would be great. I don’t think they’d need an evf if they put an OLED screen on it. Also they should come out with weather sealed mark II versions of the Leica primes.

Yes, absolutely agree! A big body is good for people who shoot wildlife, but not for me. A GX10 with modern specs were good, but I don’t believe it anymore. I sold my lenses and the GX8 and now I’m waiting for the S9.

The features the S9 eliminated makes me avoid this body. That is OK as I’m not in the content creator community this body is being marketed to. Eli has described the body I crave. Cameras are only tools. Have fun.

Great video, bro! I would be perfectly happy if olympus could take what’s in the OM five and put it into a pen f, weather sealed of course, and USB-C of course. If Panasonic could put most of what’s in the G9 mark two into the S9 body, that would be great too. basically both micro for third companies have a prototype for what to go with. They just need to get it done.

I left micro 4/3rds after my GX85 was stolen. There were no updated compact models, and Panasonic seems to have mostly abandoned the system for larger cameras. I sold off my lenses and got a refurbished Nikon Z7 and 40mm lens and a Google Pixel 8 Pro. The Z7 is of course larger, but the image quality and handling is great and I can still travel with some smaller lenses in the same bag I carried my m43 gear in.

The GX9 is _really_ an upgrade of the GX80 /85. Similar build (heavier), 20 MP, tiltable EVF (still too small though), exposure compensation dial. EDIT// but I would like an upgrade on the GX9.
Weather sealing and better EVF would be enough for me -- would be a bigger camera then though

I've been spraying this for a while. GH7 and G9ii aren't small cameras. I sold all of my older M43 cameras but only kept my GX8. I've been holding onto the lenses in hopes that there is a new GX camera but am growing impatient. I only carry my Sony cameras anymore because my A6000 and A7Cii are comparable to the GX8 in size. I believe the A6000 is actually smaller, but the lenses are slightly bigger. My A7RIV isn't much bigger than the GX8 either. I had an LMount S1R for a while but LMount lenses are just too big and heavy for me because of the obsession with eliminating focus breathing. I had bought the S1R on release day and only got rid of it recently.

I love the Lumix bodies; the GX80 and GX9 but i just can’t get on with the field sequential EVF in those cameras. For me, that was the only stumbling block. If Lumix could could put and OLED finder in their new iteration, i think it would appeal.
My Em1 mkii has to be the most comfortable camera i have ever used. I guess we can’t have it all; if you make the cameras much smaller, it’s always going to compromise the handling somewhat.

I cant se why it shouldn't be able to make a really small one with no ibis and no evf but really really small so its pocket able. Then the rangefinder style and there go all out, ibis, weather sealing and the tilt able evf. So bring back the GM and the GX.

Yes! I like the G100 body and would have gotten it, despite its shortcomings, if the viewfinder optics weren't so poor. My priorities would be S5 level color, small body, ibis please, viewfinder with crystal clear optics, mic and headphone jack, pdaf, g7 or better video specs. I have been using a G9 for three and a half years and a GM1 for ten. As I get a lot more use out of the GM1, I would love a new smaller form M43 camera from Lumix with phase detect autofocus and a flippy screen if possible. I am not so bothered about it having an EVF or a pop-up flash. In fact, I forgot the GM1 had one until a few weeks ago when I accidently activated it 🤪. I can shoot at ISO 6400 and the noise reduction software {DxO Photolab} does an amazing job of cleaning up the images.

I love my EM5.3. I thought it'd be unbalanced with the Oly 12-40 f/2.8 Pro lens, but I got used to it and it's now my default lens. A heavier lens would be unbalanced though. My bucket list:
    - USB-C with charging while the camera is being used
    - The updated menu system
    - An updated app (see Lumix Sync app)
As a side note, not that it fixes your USB problem but my tiny battery charger has both USB-C and Mini-B, which makes charging a breeze.

  • @ScreenFiends
    @ScreenFiends 5 месяцев назад

We absolutely need smaller MFT cameras... but not the GH or G9 range. That range may not be the smallest, but they are the most ergonomic and work better with the typically bigger/ more expensive lenses.
The size makes then easier to use for longer periods and increases heat dissipation.
But there is definitely room for things like the GX9. I'd preferably love my bigger pro body for wildlife photography and something smaller for say street photography or day trips.

A small, lightweight, photography centered body should be the next M43 body LUMIX releases. After all, the last two bodies lumix released have been video centric.
Dual memory cards? No body this size has dual card slots. I’d be shocked if LUMIX gives us dual card slots. That is OK with me. I’m hoping for an updated GX8. Maybe in the S9 body.
PDAF would be expected. I don't Care if we get the 20 or 25MP sensor. Yes to the mic jac! Why did LUMIX exclude that on the GX85/9. Of course we should get IBIS. Yes also for the EVF. We can loose the articulation for the EVF.
Oh by the way, please make the body check in at less than $900.

I as a rule much prefer the larger body cameras and for me a real update to a GX8 would be my want, alas that is very unlikely to happen. I can only assume despite the vociferous fans myself included for models like the GX8, PEN-F , GM5 simply did not sell enough for them to justify true updates. It is frustrating for people looking for a smaller form factor when all the needed tech is already available

  • @rogermuggleton8127

Alas the drive is for more functionality, more controls and buttons, so regardless of the sensor size the bodies are going to get bigger. I'm a small man with small hands, and find my E-M5 III just about perfect. I don't really want any more features, in fact I'd be happy without any video functionality and, horror of horrors, I could manage without a mechanical shutter. As I don't do video or flash the hot shoe could go as well. But it's not going to happen.

The new Panasonic GH7 MTF camera is a bit larger and heavier than the full frame Panasonic S5II ! So, yes MTF cameras have to be much more compact, but I guess that both OM Systems and Panasonic do not have money enough to make new compact system MTF cameras. Maybe the GH7 will be the last MFT camera from Panasonic. Not many new MTF Panasonic Lenses and the newest are on sale, so I guess that the MTF customers are moving away from MTF to larger formats.

It is smaller but that boils down to the G9 II being the same width, 1cm taller, it is 2.3cm deeper but that is mainly because of the deeper EVF housing . I have the OM-1 but much prefer the Panasonic G9II and if it had been on the market at the same time I would have went with the G9II. I think OM System has been doing better at this-the OM-5 is only a year and a half old, really quite small, and has many of the features you've mentioned.
Where it suffers is that a lot of the quality of life features (e.g. usb-c) haven't really been updated since 2019's E-M5 mkII, and also that its design makes it look bigger than it is (the opposite of the GX-8/GX-9 problem you mention in the video)
I'd still be tempted but I'd really prefer better video, even though the video on the OM-5 seems Not Bad™
Whereas the last vaguely small Lumix was the G100 (and lots of compromises), and the last *good* small lumix was the GX9 in 2018?
A refreshed GX85 (or the MFT S9) might be ideal for me...if it existed. Or if OM was just a *little* better on the video side

Good ideas, but I think m43 should create a really small camera for videos, photopgraphy as a second thought.
Video demands very good autofocus and stabilization. No EVF, No mechanical shutter. No overheating or recording limits. 4k is more than enough. It should have a mic input for sound and that's basically it. An external wireless mic system could be sold in a bundle.
Then it should focus on easily and seamlessly streaming the content to your phone or to youtube using the camera.
This adresses the needs and desires of tiktok, youtube and a whole new generation of young "content creators".
