    The Trans Am GTA was only made for 6 model years: 1987-1992. I have been searching for one of these for over 4 years and finally found one I can afford and restore. Let me know if you guys want to see more videos about this car.

      I bought a 88 three weeks ago. I have been looking for one in good condition with an analog instrument cluster but for some reason I had a hard time finding one without the digital cluster. I saw this video so I just had to sub to your channel. Good luck with the car and make sure your son doesn’t do any burnouts right after you flush the liquids out 😂 One question are you going to do the rear differential as well or just the oil, tranny, and radiator. That would be real cool if you could do a video on the flush you want to do. I just bring all my cars to valvoline.

    • @TheFixTech
      @TheFixTech  Год назад +2

      Thanks, I have flushed the engine with liquid moly and refilled with oil, drained the coolant through the block (removed the knock sensor) and refilled with fresh coolant. And drained and refilled/bled the brake fluid. I have yet to do the transmission and differential. The differential is next on my list as it is noisy around turns, these diffs need the special additive for quite operation. I used to have my fluids done at a shop but due to costs and poor quality labor, I take my time and do them myself. A fluid siphon/ pump is a good investment from OTC. I may do a video on the differential/transmission

    Found this video when browsing for hope that my 2000 Pontiac will start after sitting for 8 years, I think I've found what I'm looking for, lol Love the bonus cop scene! haha.

      Thanks, usually if a car has been sitting for awhile the gas in the fuel take will go bad. Sometimes the tank itself will need to be replaced if it is a metal tank, if plastic then it should be fine. The fuel pump and sending unit will likely be suspect. Also be sure to replace the fuel filter.

      Nice combo, that 3 speed will put the power down. I’ve thought about a manual swap but will likely stick with the auto.

    Used to have an 87 TA. It was blue with grey ground effects also T tops. I’d give anything just to take if on a drive again. Still have dreams about her that seem so real too.

    Had a 1988 just like this one and loved her so much! She was a beast! My interior was blue which looked great....better than that freakin' tan I always see. I hate that freakin' tan/gold/camel, whatever ya' wanna call it. The blue was so much classier! Wish I could've kept her but she was one pricey car to maintain! But, baby, sittin' at a light when the boys pull up to see a woman drivin'? Priceless! Hope you enjoy this beauty as much as I enjoyed mine! Peace!

      These cars are too cool, if yours has no start issues, also check the fuel pump and Mass air relays located next to the brake booster. If the car sat for awhile it is best to drop the fuel tank and clean replace those parts as needed including the fuel filter.

    holy cow man it sounds really damn good. Back in the day I be had a 91 ta triple black, and before that an 88 GTA and that awesome metallic gray that turn gold and somebody else's black honeycomb stock wheels. Looked really good.. Both of them were five liters with t-tops.
    I don't know why you'd want to go for the digital combo over being able to pop the top off end of that open ride V-8 experience but then again I love a General Motors 350.
    This video is making me want to buy another one

    I had two 1991's one in white, one in burgundy, both w/ the 5.7. I should have held on to them longer.

      Same here ! Had the 5.7 with the SLP package . Loved that car soooo much , it was beautiful. Always got compliments and one of my friends hounded me constantly about buying it . I finally caved in one day and sold it for 7g with only 63k miles . 2 weeks later he wrecked it on a rainy day . Says he lost control, lost traction on a long sweeping road and spun it into a tree. I REGRET selling it .

    A car sitting for that long with probably unconserved engine probably requires instant piston rings replacement. On the other hand, the only chance to avoid is to inject petroleum a into cylinders a day before startup, then an hour or so inject some engine oil, then handcrank the engine, then use the starter while spark plugs are out to eject excessive oil, then put them in and do a start.

    Hi, have the same car.
    I got two questions, is it safe to powerwash the engine like that? i wish to clean mine but im worried that ill brake some connector.
    and, you wouldnt know how to fix error code 34 ? The Maf sensor wont work

    • @TheFixTech
      @TheFixTech  Год назад +3

      Use a lower pressure, around 2000psi is good, keep water moving and don’t focus on electrical, big metal only. Check the maf relays on the firewall near the brake booster. You will have two, a maf relay and a maf burn off relay.

    • @TheFixTech
      @TheFixTech  Год назад +1

      It is important to startup after a wash to dry out any water. Just be sure to try and avoid the major electrical systems.

    • @toddprater14
      @toddprater14 Год назад

      Ahh can’t speak for the ta too well,but the formula firebird and the iroc 87-89 you could get a 350 with t-tops. Tops stopped in 1990-1992 with the 350…I’m sure the trans am would be the same unless it was a weight issue….

    Why waste money on that old antique and obsolete engine? LS swap it and give it some modern power. Just don't forget to upgrade those dinky brakes.

      That’s what my brother keeps telling me, I am planning on keeping the tpi system but with some minor performance upgrades. I have a set of 1le brakes I will be installing. That’s the most performance I’ll be adding to the car.
