This PS5 Was Melted in a House Fire! Let's Try to Fix It! When I initially tested this PS5 I didn't think it would turn on at all. But it actually worked... sort of. Luckily it didn't work fully so I had plenty to do getting it working again and also looking much better.

Hi I sold you the melted ps5 glad to see it resurrected. I wish I could family home after the fire unfortunately no insurance and lost most butvat least your purchased helped me a little towards my goal of purchasing and rebuilding the home I live in most my live God bless and thank you.
I'm so glad you're okay
I hope everyone who was in that house to be perfectly safe, and may they hopefully recover from that awful accident.
the ps5 is more important than any living person !! (said no one ever, i hope !)
😂
@@MrJamiez What’s so funny?
@@MrJamiez whats so funny, little homie?
lol thats not a video about that its for fix the ps5 bro
I had a housefire in 2009. my XBOX360 and PS2s somehow BOTH survived the fire completely functional, even though the discs within them were heat damaged to the point they could no longer be read.
I've never been willing to disassemble either, but in the 14 years since they've continued to function just fine.
Everything on the motherboard got reflowed, so they were as good as new lol
The reason why the disks weren't working anymore is probably that the layers started separating. The disk might look perfectly fine, but it won't work anymore.
best method to reflow a mobo they will most likely last forever
You think that liquid damage was caused from them trying to put the fire out? It just makes since but I am surprised how it completely looks after that. Truly amazing and you sir do a awesome job repairing what others say is "unrepairable"
Didn't expect that to work first try.
Been through a Housefire Myself, Ill never forget that Smell... I hope that The person and Family who went through this are doing Well...
The smell of burnt plastics is the worst.
Same here. My house burned in April and let me tell EVERYONE, that smoke a caustic! Almost everything in my house that had exposed metal had rust less than 24 hours after the fire. I have a TON of stuff I put in storage (including my whole video game collection) that I need to clean and test when I have a new place.
@@madmatt2024 even the game in sealed boxesmight be non-readable after a fire just from the heat warping the plastic with no visible damage. I lost most of my PS2 collection in that way.
Thank you for thoughts still trying to recover no insurance and I'm disabled but I keep trying to get a morgage to purchase the family home and rebuild its where I lived most of my life.
Back in the day I had a nintendo 64 that was damaged in a house fire.I had a friend who knows about electronics open it and aside from the case looking super funky, once we cleaned it up it worked fine for years after
Would it be appropriate to say he acquired this PS5 in a fire sale? All prices are hot! 😉
Lol I like puns but yeah I'm the guy who had the fire.
How dare the company, who must not be named, turned you down for a sponsorship! 😠
Lol
How dare they not do what you want them to do James.
I love the banter over it though. It's pretty on brand for the company - hope they reconsider
Cough...dbrand....cough
Dbrand * Cough and fart noises *
Restorish to the rescue! You and Robert are amazing! I second the other comment on soldering for newbies.
Watching it getting cleaned made me sleepy. That was relaxing and satisfying to watch 😂
It actually looked kinda cool at first. Like an old rustic kind of look.
I think its awesome you have a wife who enjoys electronics as much as you like fixing them. It's a match like no other. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for pointing me towards Restorish. Never heard of them until now, but it sounds like they are right up my alley for chill tech repair content!
@SilverKnight, Restorish is part of the TronicsFix family.
its amazing that it even still works after it was melted as always great job
It wasnt that badly damaged to be fair what was wrong was superficial not enough to affect it working
Wow this lady just wont to give up. Congrats Steve !
Its surprising that it still worked after the fire. The new shells looks pretty good
These videos always makes my day
This came out great! Like the aftermarket plates for sure.
Best move to clean the board. I had an incident many years ago where my crt tv has no brightness due to soot from a malfunctioning oil furnace. The soot on the board actually changed the values on some of the components so i took it apart and cleaned the main board. It worked fine after that.
It just goes to show you. Always try and fix things before you throw them away. Especially something that cost a good bit of money.
Excellent video, Steve!! Really enjoyable and entertaining!!
We do between 25 and 45 house fire console's / Laptop per year. Ozone machine and a ultrasonic cleaner are absolutely wonderful.
Hi Steve! Could you make some videos teaching newbies basics on soldering? I tried learning from a lot of videos but for some reason i can't grasp it. I feel like you would teach amazingly!
I'm sure Steve would do a fabulous job but Ben hack has a really solid series on the basics of soldering!
Voultar also had a pretty decent soldering tricks video a little while ago.
I posted a link yesterday but it got removed. Don’t know why. Search for “TronicsFix Soldering for Complete Beginners” and you’ll find a blog article and a link to a video course Steve made a few years ago.
he does do it but it costs money
You should have opened the power supply, it probably had soot on the components too.
yeah for sure. That bothers me
Yeah, you' re right by PSU's ain't something a lot of people mess with. Most of the times they just replace it, as a faulty one can cause A LOT of trouble, from a simple short to a fire.
I love videos like this, especially the cleaning is satisfying. Great job. And amazing how easy you put the sticker on the PS5. And probs that you use the shells even the company will not sponsor your videos.
Nicely done Steve!
I'm impressed that the console was mostly fine, I would expect all plastics molten - nice job Sony.
Would probably be possible to fabricate some of the body parts with 3D printing, but might also be better to just rebuild it in a new custom case, since the core components are still working. Then again if reselling as a refurbished product + it was from a housefire, its probably better to use donor parts and make it as standard as possible. Nonetheless great work as always.
Gives me vibes of that gameboy that survived a bomb blast and still worked
A sonic cleaner with BW-100 would be ideal. (As long as you can get BW-100 in bulk)
I don't know why, but the background music made me feel like I was watching shenanigans from Pixar's Monsters, Inc. characters.
I loved it.
And the fact that this PS5 seems to work, still, took me by surprise.
Oh that purple ps5 looks amazing!
New subscriber 👋🏻.
Nice job restoring that PS5👏.
Cool video as always, but I was pretty surprised you re-used the PSU after seeing smoke and liquid damage on the board, any comment on the decision making process behind that?
Yeah he definitely should have atleast opened it up and inspected it
who says he didnt check? it couldve gotten cut out of the video@@staples4335
I'm impressed that even turns on, it looks pretty well roasted!
That was a Smart Awesome PS5. Awesome Video TronicsFix.🙂
That Purple is looking good.. my Favorite color 😍
Dang the reveal on that plate was so good, I feel like with how many ps5s you fix, the more of these plates I see installed the more likely Ill be to pick one up! If only this company had a name 🤔🤔🤔
The concert is looking great😅
Hope the people in the house fire are ok.
Most of them ''cept brother Jed. We don't much talk about him anymore.
Your thumbnail is top notch!
When I was nine (1997), I got a PS1 for Christmas. A few weeks later we had a house fire and everything was ruined. Firefighters said it was only kind of safe to go in after they put the fire out and my parents decided to get my PS1 and Game Gear out, left the Genesis and NES. The Game Gear was in a travel case so it was clean and functional. The PS1 was covered in soot and clearly got hit with water. It didn't work. The game inside was fine (MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero). Even after all these years I can still smell the smell of house fire on the disc, it's faint now but it's there.
i love it steve looks amazing
Thanks for the content
Very nice work.
Amazing work breakdown collaboration and finish! When will it be up for sale?
I thought a custom case with flames would have been a perfect for that thing amazing it works after that
Great video as always never fails
Nice job as always
I think you need more lights for your top camera, it seem a little dark to me
Another house fire ps5? You had to read my other comment. Lol. Again. I love your channel because you take uniquely damaged tech to repair. Keep it up.
Very cool. I really dont like the purple design but whoever got this PS5 rescued must be soo happy.
Random eBay seller selling this: "Works great. Minor cosmetic damage."
Love your work ❤️
18:15 Look at you having a Tim "The Toolman" Taylor moment there! "Real men don't need instructions! Ar, ar, arrr!!!" 🤭 AWESOME! 🤘😎
Oh, and purple is my favourite colour!!! TronicsWife has great taste!
Hahaha. "Dbrand". Lime green and translucent purple would look AWESOME!!!
Seeing Robert clean a ps5 motherboard is my therapy.
Very Nice repair
When cleaning the board.. the “orange parts” are bare exposed copper. Rub it with some never dull to polish that up.
Combustion is an oxidative process. So, any corrosion present on metal after a fire could be either because of the fire itself or because of the water used to put it out.
The smoke is caustic/corrosive. When my house burned in April, literally everything with exposed or poorly plated metal had rust within 24 hours. Even stuff that wasn't exposed to fire or water had rust.
The man, the myth, the Legend
Looks great for a rebuild
Definitely crisper than the previous fire ps5
Yes, quite a bit crispier! I can't believe it wasn't more broken!
It's just a testament to how they designed it to run at a billion degrees
It still works tho!
Sony learned a lot from the ps4
DBrand, you're missing out. Sponsor this man!!
Also thank you to Robert's help also
Tron the shirt your wearing in this video is amazing 😂
Nice video and work! How much did you pay for this damaged ps5 ad how much extra did you put in to repair it excluding labor / skills charges :-) ?
This is the best sony ad.
The cough got me xD thanks, tronic!
Nice, Steve! 👍 💖
Man if only I knew that sticker companies name, I might've bought some for myself. Too bad they didn't sponsor such an awesome channel like TronicsFix because they might have had another paying customer.
Why would they sponsor a channel that only ever fixes and sells consoles?
should the two surface mount caps that were blackened, be replaced?? im assuming if they were that black, they were around the heat or smoke of the fire the most, and since they have a heat rating im wondering if that made them more brittle from being exposed to hight temps in the house fire. Im just assuming
Steve, we both pulled the exact same face when there were signs of power. 😅
One PS5, extra crispy.
Looks pretty nice again.
Thanks steve
Steve, I recently spilt some cider on my gaming laptop keyboard. I quickly powered it down, dried it with tissue, turned it upside down to avoid cider getting down into the motherboard as much as possible, and I put it in my airing cupboard next to the boiler for a week before I turned it back on. Everything is working exactly as it should, no internal issues at all, but some of the keys are a bit stiff / sticky now even though they still work. Is there a way I could use BW100 to spray around / under the keys a bit to try and clean them out without having to fully dissassemble the internals? Thanks for any response, and keep up the good work.
Hey love the vids! Would you consider upgrading camera to 4k? We could see all the little details on boards so much better! please!
Tip for this kind of dirt on PCB's
WD40! It somehow pulls soot right of the pcb, after that rinse it off or give it a good wipe with IPA
Nice. I will buy some Dbrand parts.
Awesome video !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve when would you change out the thermal pads? The console was exposed to hot temperatures enough to melt the outer shell. The thermal pads may be brittle as well.
crasy that it worked after all it went thru. Love it steve keep the work up
Glad it works but I was hoping for some melted chip replacement. 😂❤
Why didn't Robert use an ultrasonic cleaner with IPA? much more effective and safe as long as no ignition source is around :)
I’m sure DKoldie would say that’s mint condition and ship it out as is.
Honestly, the heatsink could have been cleaned and would have been fine, but reusing the PSU, the _one_ component that contains critical electronics you don't clean on the inside, makes no sense to me. It's "open air", so it definitely will have plenty of soot in there. That is the one part I would definitely have swapped, just to be safe, especially because a faulty PSU may work now, but can easily kill the rest of the system in a few days, weeks or months.
I really liked the molten center cover, looked pretty awesome, so I would have kept that, if possible.
yup good point
That’s a good video I’m curious how much would you sell that for and what the average price for repaired ps5
Ive bought myself some bw-100. That ps5 case looks pretty nice, would consider one but not sure what company sells it 🤔
I love music from Mafia on background :D 4:27
DBRAND, PLEASE SPONSOR THIS MAN!
Feel this console was ON during the fire and the fan just sucked all the smoke and hot air inside making a mess and melting the plastics
to think a house fire PS5 would donate a motherboard and PSU. Another successful frankenbuild. Good job!
I wonder if he ever figured out that he tried to get the disc to work the first time but it was upside down? Things that make you go hummm... Good vid!!
What was upside down?
As easy as putting sticker on Lego. That, sir, made me lol.
Hi, my name is Klayton. This comment is kinda off topic for the video, but I love watching you fix everything especially playstation and other electronics before anyone else can haha 🤜🤛. I was wondering if you can fix a gen 1 psp (wont turn on with a newer battery) and a gen 1 psp vita (broken screen)? Please let me know. I have also lost the charging cables for both in my recent move so I would be grateful if you could point me in the direction to get new ones.
I love how Steve used a vanguard game to try. You know, since they are worthless and I paid 5 for mine on Walmart 😅 just to lvl up guns btw back then
10:34 I legit thought you unfolded that board
Would that BW-100 be good for cleaning pots in amps and guitars?
@tronicsfix recommends cases with the ventilation holes? Even those not sponsored. I heard they dont help with ventilation
