Aretha sings from the pit of her soul, her having a baby at 12yrs old and her second child at 14yrs old...you can hear the pain and the struggles she went through in her voice, that was the way she expressed herself is through her singing from the depths of her soul..literally you can feel every note she sings because it's coming from a deep and sometimes dark place!!
This cut almost melts the furniture !! Aretha brings it home and to everyone’s shock with musicians that were white (and funky). AGAIN, good music knows No Color!!

Aretha Franklin had the most naturally soulful voice I’ve ever heard. Glad y’all reacted to her. And, I saw that Muscle Shoal documentary too. Very informative. I never heard anything about their name before, except for in the song “Sweet Home Alabama”. Love the shirt brother.
So glad did this one :) I agree it's up at the top of all her hits. It reminds me how precise her timing and inflection was. Try her singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Just her amazing voice and her piano playing.

YES!! I LOVE Aretha. When I was 6 years old in the early 60s, I used to sneak into my cousin's bedroom when he was gone and put on this song....he had it on a 45 record.....I would dance my little 6 year old self into the night! His mother, my father's sister, and my VERY religious Aunt, caught me and told me I was "going to hell" for listening to that "devil music" and dancing. 🤣🤣🤣I didn't care. Aretha introduced me to soul music and I was HOOKED!!
One my first albums bought back in the day and many more followed. She was also a civil rights icon who met with MLK and others and contributed in many ways. Next from her R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Rock Steady, Day Dreamin 🔥

My favorite 2 Aretha songs were the double-sided hit singles from 1968: "Since You've Been Gone" and "Ain't No Way", which was written by her sister, Carolyn. "Ain't No Way" is on my Top Ten All-Time Songs list. Highly recommended.

Have y'all done "rock steady"? "Do right woman, do right man"? Lots of good Aretha. My first memories of Aretha Franklin is one of my older sisters. She'd come in from work and be on the phone for hours. House foggy with smoke (different time then) and listening to Aretha Franklin songs in the background. For a while we had some cousins stay with us, and one of my female cousins would do the same thing.

Classic. If you grew up anywhere near Detroit, you would definitely know and love only this version. I was a child living just south of Detroit and I sang it all the time, couldn't help but move and knew all the words by heart. Great powerhouse.
CORRECTION .... Muscle Scholes IS a WELL KNOWN back-up band used in a RECORDING STUDIO. They have been used by the best ever performers.

It's not a cover Aretha recorded the song 1st in 1968, Carol King co-wrote it and did a version for her I think 1971 album Tapestry but Aretha is the original recorder of Natural Woman.
