I've been hearing surf perch have been biting the past week. Finally got out to the beach. I didn't get an early start but it was still nice to get out and chill.
I tried a metal 1 oz jig from Amazon and soon lost it from a wind knot or some kind of snag lol. Oh well. Caught some small surf perch with the Carolina Rig. Switched over to a 1 oz Kastmaster but it was low tide by then.

Pretty amazing place to cast a line there man! Hoping to get a bit of fishing done this year myself.
Nice. Curious to see what kind of fish you catch there.
Awesome upload dear friend, have a blessed week
Thanks!
Tough break on losing the jig. I’ve done some surf fishing on the Gulf coast and that’s what we would call a rough surf. For the west coast, that’s reasonably calm. 🦑
Nice. This particular area is pretty flat. It can be tough unless it's high tide or you can cast it out there 🤷 If there's a nice hole they can be right there 10 feet away too lol. It would be cool to check out how they fish on the Gulf Coast. Thanks for watching!
Nice Video. Yeah I was fishing a bit south of there today. I lost a couple lures as well today. Ended up with 1 nice perch though. No stripers but there were birds etc. looked promising.
Damn that sucks about the lures. I should have arrived earlier. There was a huge flock of birds dive bombing a couple of hundred yards out. I wonder if stripers were following. Thanks for watching!
Nice work, Rod. Wondering how or why you got ads in this video. Did you have copywritten music in it that I missed? I have ads in one of my recents but I think it was because I had some very faint music in the background. Didn't seem like enough for ads to appear. Just curiouos.
I thought ads always show up. I view a lot in the browser so don't notice them really.🤷
@@rodoutdoors I wasn't aware (just looked it up) but RUclips puts ads on non-monetized videos/channels SOMETIMES now (I use Firefox on Windows). Never noticed this on any channels I watch EVER until recently. This means we don't get paid even though our viewers have to see ads. Not happy about that. Your video had an ad at the beginning and right in the middle. Guess I may as well monetize when I reach 1,000 subs even though I don't want to. 😐
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍7
Thanks!
Were you just outside of Watsonville? Enjoyed the video.
Yep! Thanks for watching!
Greetings . Are those water proof socks ? How are those working out for you ? Looking to give the waders a break for a lighter set up .
No they're not waterproof. They just keep my legs a bit warmer. It's like a wetsuit that only covers the calves.
Got it . Thank you 🫡
Nice, enjoyable video! That looked like a great, dark, deep hole out in front of you. Braid sucks with wind knots and casting break-away $$$ lures. Do you fish south or north of Santa Cruz?
Thanks! Yeah I was catching fish just 10-20 ft away from me in that hole. Didn't land a big one though. I mostly fish south of Santa Cruz.
@@rodoutdoors I'm not asking for your specific beach but your general area. Do you fish in San Diego or Moss, Marina, or Monterey areas? Just asking fishing type questions and fish that are in your area: perch, stripers, sea bass, halibut, or corbina (lastly, who are mostly SoCal)
@@theoldsurffisher1943 Monterey Bay. It's in the title and description 😄Halibut and stripers should be coming around soon. I mostly go for perch.
@@rodoutdoors Thanks!!
What state beach did you park at?
