Hiking 40 Miles In Two Days Without Enough Food | Solo Summer Fastpacking Trip | Ultralight Bivy
8/25/2024 - 8/26/2024 Henry W. Coe State Park - Hunting Hollow - Willson Camp - Pacheco Camp - Mississippi Lake
I intended on taking a chill trip to Lost Spring Camp but while at the trailhead I talked to a mountain biker about water access at Mississippi Lake. He mentioned there's access to water so I switched plans to tackle a goal I've been wanting to accomplish...
To head over to Mississippi Lake for an overnight trip. It's around 18 miles to get there so it would basically be a 40 mile trip in 2 days.
Unfortunately, I forgot to repack food for a longer trip.

    Some say trekking poles make you burn up towards 20% more calories. Not sure if it is worth it, if you have to ration calories. My guess is the old man shuffle is most energy efficient. Also, if you keep to zone 1 (heart rate), you will burn mostly fat which most people have a good amount of (50,000 calories), so I guess you could go many days without eating? Not very pleasant though 😂

    • @rodoutdoors
      @rodoutdoors 8 дней назад

      It definitely helps with climbs. My knees also don't get wrecked when going down steep sections. I mostly carry them at the middle. The sway gives me a rhythm. It's easy to whip out on uneven sections to save my hips. I don't ever see myself without my trekking poles. It's basically part of me.
