Hey Bob just watching you and hearing your hilarious comments already made my day. Never a boring vlog plus I learned a lot about my GX 460.
Thanks Marcelo, appreciate you watching and commenting which also makes my day!
I use ky jelly to lubricate my filter after I clean it is that adequate??
Bob, just finished my spark plug change out and installed of the K&N air filter. Took a test drive and WOW what a frigging difference. Would have never thought an air filter would cure my "heavy" accelerator pedal problem but it DID!!
That heavy pedal problem was really bugging me and now it's done. I'm ready for my track day. 1000 thank yous Bob.
Plus my wife loves her new interior and running board lights. Now she need sunglasses to open up the car at night. BAMB!!!!!
Your comment actually made me smile. I'm grateful that the channel is gaining momentum. I would have never thought things that bugged me would eventually help others. Again, thank you for joining me on this journey.
I installed the K & N air filter today and noticed improvement in acceleration and MPG! Glad I got it... thanks Bob👍
Did you take your car to the tracks yet? Glad you went for it!
Increase Mpg?
Just had my little sister install mine. Had to get her a step stool. It is very hot outside, so I came back into the A/C while she worked. Only took her about 15 minutes.
I installed one on my GX470 last week and engine light came on after about 30 miles of driving. I put regular air filter in and check engine code went away
Bob thanks for all your gx460 content! I just installed this drop in filter and definitely improved my throttle response which I really wanted. I almost got the afe cold air intake, but not ready for the loud roars at WOT. I’ll be installing a pedal command here soon too. If you’re ever in Orange County, Ca, my treat to Vietnamese coffee shops with plenty of pleasures for the eyes 😍.(once this pandemic is over)
lol....are you referring to Cafe Lu? Those were my early days. Now you'll find me at Vua Bun Bo and Phoholic.
How’s that filter holding up today? I just got a 19 GX and have done the seat riser and man, what a difference. I also got rid of the foam filter for the air pump thanks to your videos. I appreciate your help with all of this.
Glad you're tackling some of the mods. The filter is holding up nicely.
If you remove the top airbox cover, there is a heavy duty screen that can be removed. Removing it will net performance benefits. Since this truck is sold worldwide and in some harsh climates, they design the airbox to handle say the Sahara desert. So if you are in normal conditions, you don't need the screen. If you are going off-road or in a dusty, dirty place, just pop the stock air filter back in, without the extra screen.
Engineering Explained describes it as a piece of emissions equipment, it traps the hydrocarbons after shutting off the engine. It obviously works for both air entering the engine and leaving the engine, which is why I gave my Sahara desert explanation.
I will say, if you off-road, live in a dusty, dirty environment, I would not use a K&N filter. Removing the charcoal filter will grant the largest difference. Also the foam piece on the bottom of the stock filter is usually designed for snow. So if you don't see snow, you can rip it off.
He concludes that removing the charcoal filter and adding a K&N granted around 4% better hp/tq and 4% faster installation. However, he concludes that you can't feel the difference after calculating change in g-force, so it isn't worth it. He claims that throttle response will be the same, which I completely disagree with. He also fails to mention improvements to MPG, which there will be if your driving habit is the same.
Nice Aonarch! Do you mind if i use that in an upcoming vid?
@@GXBOB absolutely! Engineering Explained did a very in-depth video with a Subaru Crosstrek on a similar topic. Granted that engine is a 2.0l four cylinder, vs 4.6l V8. So we should see a larger difference simply due to higher displacement (i.e. Volume).

Thanks Bob, your videos are OUTSTANDING!!!!
Thanks for the kind words Jerry.
Bob, ok…I found your video regarding the air filter change regarding my question to you from another video. Thx, Bob!
Look at the one for cabin filter too. That is also a necessity.
I added a maganaflow ss overland exhaust system. I like it alot. 23mpg on hwy I swear.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just rent a Lamborghini for a week?
@@GXBOB its not too loud its just right 450 online made by Magnaflow, stainless from cat back, I have kn on my tacoma, I think it eventually gave my truck evap and maf codes im dealing with now. I drive offroad quite a bit in gx , if It was a payment princess I think I'd K&N gx for sure.
Good. I changed it today. How do you feel?
I would feel ecstatic if you were a hot Russian/Czech babe named Gold Sun that was into men with Lexus GX's.
I've always bought these for my cars with no problems ever. Makes your engine sound and feel a little better. Too bad the hot women don't know the difference between this and OEM 😶
That's what the sticker is for.
@@GXBOB The sticker adds 5hp
@@AgentJ415 I think me and you have the potential to become the best of friends, especially with your last comment.
Hey Bob,do you still like K&N filter?
Hey! I still use the K&N filter to this day. I just recently took it out to flush some water through it, re-oil it, and air dry it.
What are your thoughts on buying from RockAuto or Denso for same OEM part manufacturer and part# as dealer
I’ve bought Fram filters from the auto parts store plenty of times.
You just cost me 55 bucks, Bob... THANKS!
But I saved you $1,000,000 in the long run.
Hello! I'm wondering how much freon is needed for this model? and if you know how much is needed for the GX460 2021year? thanks!

In my case, I don't like the oiling and cleaning part for the KN, I prefer to stick with the original
To each their own. But the pros outweigh the cons for me.
Same I’ve always had them but after watching a few videos and testing the extra air volume also allows more dirt particles through. So for me I choose to stick to oe for that reason
@@joshtumblin5893 Thanks for the input..
@@GXBOB no problem it’s ur vehicle and love your videos I appreciate them! Check this out if you wanna this guy always test stuff if you haven’t seen him. ruclips.net/video/sJ3L-E-ufYo/видео.html.
@@joshtumblin5893 Thanks so much, Josh. I just finished watching it. I like how K&N outperformed all the other filters when it came to acceleration and performance but failed in blocking micro particles vs others half the price. I think I'm going to hang on to the K&N due to my type of driving environment. I strictly take my car out on the weekends to mostly the beach and the mall. If i were to do some desert or backcountry driving, i most definitely will consider WIX which was an overall winner. You did have me thinking for a minute though but the acceleration I've been having is just to awesome to give up right now. Hopefully, other viewers are watching and can determine for themselves. Again, thank you.
Thank you for the instructions, as someone with ADHD this could have been a 30-second video... the mosey Ramblin made my teeth hurt
@@tubeit365 I googled mosey ramblin and nothing came up
@@GXBOB I believe you. The other day I looked up "gavelkind marriages". Which in medieval times, was a horrible practice via the English.
When they would defeat the Scottish or irish, the English soldiers, as reward... would impregnate the defeated soldiers wives, or other commoners and whatever villages. Obviously against the wives, and women's wishes they were pretty much raped. I fear that history is being sanitized for whatever reason...
Anyhow, to mosey means to take your time excessively. Imagine a grandma in a yarn shop for 3 hours...😅😅.
And to ramble, it's kind of what I'm doing in this message.... talking about stuff that has nothing to do with the actual subject matter...🤔
By the way I have a delicious bread recipe if you're interested...😋
Take care, God bless you. 🖖🙏🇺🇸
Hey Bob you should do a pedal commander for the GX and do a review.
I saw that....damn, very tempting. Very expensive too.
Bob did you notice a difference in MPG overall over this past year ?
Tbh, I’ve never kept track of it.
does the third row seat recline on the manual base trim GX460?
No it doesn't but with the headrest in the upright position, i don't believe there is any space to recline even in the luxury or premium edition.
Can you teaching install cool air intake system?😊
Are you referring to a cold air intake system that gets rid of the intake box completely? Those are pretty expensive and they allow the filter to be exposed to a hot engine compartment. I prefer to keep it within the air box unless you reroute the entire thing to your lower front grille. But remember, this is a luxury suv and not a rice rocket honda civic. Lets be classy.
My airflow sensor was contaminated. Never use a washable filter any more.
There’s a trade off. I would keep the washable filter and do routine maintenance on my airflow sensor.
Love it in mine motor screams lol
I know right???
We clean every 50000 miles .
i check every 5k miles when doing an oil change.
Lmfao. It’s in Chinese! Says gets hot women (totally in Spanish stating designed to increase horsepower) 🤣🤣
Are you sure??? I could swear that was Chinse.
Replaced the filter, got a message “contact this dealer for maintenance”. Did I do something wrong? Gx2011
Just coincidence. Not related
LMAO
are u laughing at me or with me? i can't tell.
Told ya so....LOL!!!
Guess what....i just ordered the 2021 headlamps

Very well documented over the years. Yes it is washable/re-oil and re-useable. They DO NOT filter as well as the OE filter. They flow more air but your motor is dialed in and works just fine.
As for the BUTT Dyno vs actual Dyno. Real Dyno will show "Zero" increase in HP. Sorry but the facts and Physics are what they are. Oh and see the Pre-filter on the OE filter? Where is it on the K&N.
Careful what you put your backing on.
Yup, still sounds like a washing machine.
You can damage the MAF sensor if you over oil these. I wish Lexus made an F-sport Air Intake for the GX, those don't require oil and are a lifetime filter. I think I'm gonna give this AEM no oil filter a try: www.aemintakes.com/lexus/gx460/4.6l-v8-gas/2010/
Looks good. I’ve heard about those too.
@@GXBOB Just ordered it. AEM has it on their own website with free Fedex shipping for $39.99
