- hello, decided to start modifications to the 2019 GX460. These 1st 2 easy mods but perhaps the best mods. The auto powered fold mirrors will definitely works if your vehicle have the mirrors folding buttons.

2018 GX 460. Lexus mechanic installed it for me yesterday 11/29/23. He said he heard of older ones having the issue but hasn’t seen it in the newer ones. I didn’t want to take any chances. He said the Uni filter is much better than the OE filter. Was surprised dealer would even install it.

You don't need to pull the cap off before you pull the cover ... pull the cover then pull the cap off... easier that way

For the second mod:
The secondary-air pump draws in ambient air and injects it into the exhaust manifold downstream of the exhaust valves. There is a separate integrated air filter if the air is not drawn in from the intake system but rather directly from the engine compartment.
What benefit does this do?
@@Voodoo1377the current filter that’s in there disintegrates over time and will clog the system, it is pricy to fix.
What i saw was the coolant which is below the normal level

Yes the top cover but not the plastic end which the filter replaced.

I do, lexus kept this same chasis since 2009. It was built with functionality and durability in mind. The next gen won't have a V8 anymore, I'm not sold on the new V6 twin turbo.
Just picked up a 2017. I liked my past 4runners and tacomas but truly love my gx 460. Mpg’s arent great but not as bad as you think it would be for a solid V8.

We own 2 of these. A 2010 and a 2015. We have 350,000 on one and 150,000 on the other with zero trouble.
I have a Premium. Love mine. She's a tank. Never put me, and my family in danger, regardless of weather, or terrain.
That's all I ask for, really.
The reason it does not come with the window feature, rolling your windows down and up all at the same time can put a compromising electrical load on the system. I have the Base, SAImod, bfg ko2s same size as original, prinsu rack, and nothing else.

Oxygen sensor could possibly through a code.. I was told ? But I can't see how? UNI air filter is much better than K&N which would definitely cause issues because of the oil..

Quick question , I noticed your coolant reservoir is all the way down at the bottom ! Is that normal ? Have you had any issues with coolant leaking ? Reason why I’m asking when I got mine it has that much coolant in it and I had to add some coolant to it. Thanks for your input and great video
Hi I filled the reserve reservoir to the max soon after and it only went down bit so far... even after a 2000 miles trip recently. I brought an extra gallon for this trip as a caution but didn't even need that.
The k&n does not fit, i tried it its way to big, great video

why not change that soft filter out every couple of years?
If you can remember to do that... sure. I feel better with the UNI filter longevity.
Is the secondary air pump system on these GX's suppose to make a vacuum cleaner noise for the first 15-30 seconds on a cold start?? I installed this mod last weekend and my foam filter was still all so that is good but I am just wondering if and when it will ever fail. I don't want to be on a road trip somewhere and my truck go into limp mode. My GX is a 2014 with 98k miles on it.
It does on mine as well but not that long duration though and I got used to that by now not even notice the hissing anymore. My personal opinion, you shouldn't get into limp mode because of that sponge problem if you removed it already.

Do you still like the folding mirror mod? I took off the controller. The device kept opening the windows and we had rain a few times. No I didn’t hold the unlock button. The module just started to act up.
Yes I do, it is still functioning as it should for me. You probably got a defective one, try to get s replacement if you got it from amazon.
Not sure if it happens on your year model, but for i believe the 20-22 models that the auto fold mirrors. Using the remote start with from FOB or enform app. Once the 10min run time runs out the factory alarm will go off every time with the remote start. Also. Using the device to auto roll up/down the windows. It will not close the sun/moon roof. It will open no problem., but you will have to manually close it everytime. Its ok for warm weather as you wont use remote. But i have to remove for colder weather using the remote start.
Yeah, this also close and open the sun roof as well, just need to hold the unlock button. Click the unlock button 3 times then it only roll down the windows.

@krazyleg that plug in allows you to open and close the windows and the sunroof with the key fob. I'd think that works for 2022 as well since GX didn't have any major update... mine is 2019.

Did that plastic top cover fit back on after the filter change?
If you are talking about the tip cover on the side, you don't need that anymore. The filter replaced that. You still need the top cover which you insert the filter into.

Wonder how mod#2 does when treading river crossings or high water?
It would be the same without snorkel. You always need snorkel for high water to prevent hydrolocking.
I didn't get the reason for the 2nd mod. Wish you explained better.
That small piece of sponge inside the secondary air housing will get disintegrated over time and those little pieces will get sucked inside that can cause a host of issues, even put the GX in limp mode. Toyota even had a bulletin to remind everyone to remember to replace that sponge. We replaced that with the motorcycle filter so we don't have to do that anymore.
Anyone knows how much they sale that oem 1/4 sponge that was remove for?

Wasn't the recent Secondary Air TSB to replace the disintegrating filter so this is no longer an issue?
No idea, was there a recall campaign or something? I would still replace the foam with the uni filter if they only offer to replace the foam.
@@sevendeuces Yes for 2010-2013 years there was a special service campaign released in 2019 to replace the pump and valves. This addressed the cause of the valve failure.

For the second mod why do you need to keep the part you're replacing and for what inspection?
Incase some difficult smog check station require OEM air part. Not all the times but who knows...
Do all mirrors have the motors for this mod to work? How do I know if my mirrors have the motor? 2021 GX
Not sure all but if you do you should have a folding button from your dashboard. It would be located on the dashboard right next to the door, on the left side of the steering wheel looking toward the front.

Won't the exposed filter get clogged faster than the sponge on the inside?
That's what the filter designed for, blocking out dirt and stuff. The problem with the sponge is it will disintegrate to pieces over time and get sucked inside.

What is that air filter for?
What does it do?
That is the secondary air filter, lexus had a sponge inside the housing. I replaced that sponge with this motorcycle filter. The sponge will disintegrate overtime and get sucked inside which will cause a host of problems, even put the gx in limp mode.

@Tim Johnston your dashboard litup like Xmas tree and your rig only operates with minimal power and barely able to move. Will need to fix whichever issue then clear those codes before it can be fully functional again.

Not sure, I don't have remote start on my truck but none of my friends complain about remote start not working though.

@jdesmo1 it works with the door handles lock and unlock as well since lock and unlock function ties to the lock and unlock function on the key fob, is that make sense?.

@jdesmo1 nah I don't think so. They would have to prove that your mods somehow make the situation worst but in this case it is actually enhance it. Toyota even had a bulletin awhile back about their little sponges problem. That nori green color is Fire 🔥!

Ain't the windows and mirror functions are standard on 2022 and up. You can still do the filter mod for 2023.
