    I love the performance of this fork. It's very sad that in 2013 model(which i have) the gold race stanchions get discolored after some time. It doesn't change anything(the fork doesnt leak, and works exactly the same), but it looks bad.. guess it's a matter of getting used to it. Great video btw!

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you, TheHaitz4! I think discoloration is not that bad, when perfomance still good and fork has no leaking. BTW for this desing 888 forks I saw Nickel Coated stanchions, may be you can search for they.

    • @MrDehicka
      @MrDehicka 6 лет назад +2

      Sadly, this discoloration is actually the anodizing going away. It will still work the same until it is completely gone to the bare aluminium. Left leg usually goes first. I suggest changing the oil in the left leg twice or even triple more often than in right leg, then they will wear more equally. Left leg oil change is very easy, I do it even without taking the wheel off.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  6 лет назад

      You're right! This is simple operation and if you want increase lifespan of your fork, you need to service fork more often. Marzocchi gold coating, as I know, it is a oil impregnated teflon and it very delicate, which makes this fork very sensitivity.

    • @MrDehicka
      @MrDehicka 6 лет назад

      "Hard anodized, low friction race coating with Teflon impregnation" They call it. I'm pretty sure it is nothing special, really. Teflon impregnation has been used for more than a decade by major fork makers.

    Very good video, you helped me much!
    I have one question.. how many turns does the tension knob turn when instaled and working? from 1-20 clicks?
    I'm asking, because on my girlfriends bike I turned it almost 50 clicks in right and no end click XD lol..

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  6 лет назад

      Thank you, Aneo! I think when you turn preload knob too much in "+" you can "unscrew tension mechanism". You can remove top cap with this knob and turn it in your hand and see what happened. I think this procedure can help you with your situation.

      Is it very different to this fork?

  • @ridesafealways4929
    @ridesafealways4929 2 года назад

    Good day sir. I have a little bit of problem on my 888. When compressing the fork there is stiction on the first few centimeters of travel, when i get past that, the play becomes smooth. Upon releasing, the fork gets "stuck" up in that area again for a few seconds before achieving full travel. I can also feel the stiction when compressing the fork reallt slowly. It feels like there are "steps" in between my compression, and not a smooth slide. Also when i stand on the bike in attack position, the fork wont compress when push on it a little, it seems something is stopping it, but when i push the handlebars strongly, the fork then compresses and acts like normal.
    Any idea what could be wrong?

      Hello, Luis!
      I think hex shaft is stripped on which seats rebound knob or broken rebound shaft inside cartridge. Try to remove rebound knob and check hex shaft under it. If it is in good condition, pull out cartridge out of fork and closely check it. The best way to repair your fork is to buy new cartridge. I hope I had help you a little.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  2 года назад

      Hi! I think these forks don't have air preload. You have just regulation of air captured inside of fork. This air can be compressed (like preload) by this second knob. Before screwing top cap with these two knobs, set this air preload knob to maximum minus. Then screw top cap and after this set this knob to plus. You'll get a good progression on compression stroke. I hope it'll help you.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  2 года назад

      Hello, Luke! Does this air volume tuning change something? I mean does the fork becomes more hard or soft when you turn the knob? Maybe O-ring is broken on air piston? Or Maybe cartridge shaft is bended and make this sound when you press the fork. Clicking noise can apear from compression cartridge which is on bottom of cartridge assembly. Maybe race mechanic make individual shimstack for compression for their rider. Too many things can be. But if your fork works smooth when you compress it slowly, i think nothing is broken. Just check all nuts and bolts.

      Luke, try to unscrew bottom nut or the cartridge and compress just upper and lower legs. If cracks and noises will disapear, that is brocken cartridge. I think it can be bended shaft or a step on the shatf than making noises when you start to compress. I hope this thoughts will help you to find a problem. When you will find it, please let me know. Hey buddy, can you explain something to me? I have a marzocchi 2014 CR. Brand new. The marzocchi workshop site tells me that there should be 400ml on damper side, and 80ml on spring side. BUT, when I disassembled it, it came out 400ml on the spring side, and 80ml on the damper side. What is happening? Should I mount it the way it came, or the way marzocchi tells it should be? The fork is new, never used by another person

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  3 года назад +1

      Hello, mate! I think manual will not lie. I had never service this type of cartridges. But logic tells me, that lots of oil must be in cartridge side. For spring you can use even grease.

    • @thethgaming9194
      @thethgaming9194 3 года назад

      @@AXRV88 Thanks a lot mate. I talked to a downhill suspensions mechanic, he told me that marzocchi 888CR actually uses 400ml on spring side, 80ML inside the damper and 80ML outside the damper. I find it weird to have 400 ml of oil inside the spring, but it actually has a reason, its not just for lubrication, but it has to do with air progression. If you put less oil, there's more air inside the leg, the suspension will get softer. Air can be compressed, oil can't.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  3 года назад

      Oh, I see. If air progression system is located inside of spring leg, than mechanic was right! But in my version, air progression system is located inside of cartridge leg. For increasing progression you can make oil / air chamber physically smaller by turning a knob. I think this is way better than have excess 400g of weight just for shrink space inside the leg.

      Just google a rebuild kit for your fork. I don't know sizes of O-rings, because all of them are fine.

      Yes of course. They must be smooth and slippery and dry. If they are in the oil it will attract dust.

      I see. Oil is motorex full synthetic fork oil 7.5w. For me this oil works great. And grease is VMP heavy duty/high temperature bearing grease which neutral to rubber.
