    TheTopher on RUclips is the place where I share my personal automotive adventures. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly test vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive and live with. Great Video!
    If only this was out when I was in the market. Picked up an optioned out SE ant the end of 2016 (Mainly because of the killer warranty, tech, & I got a sweet deal on it) Initially I went to the dealer to get the sport after seeing it advertised everywhere. All dealers I checked had Vin #'s for them but they wouldn't be delivered for a while. driving 90 miles a day I couldn't wait for the sport, unfortunately.

    Great even keeled review. I am very interested in picking one of these up when my current lease is up in about 11 months, so it will probably be the 2018 model. I have watched countless reviews on this vehicle and I get tired of hearing "well, for a Hyundai this is a really good car." I think Hyundai have caught with the pack, and are continuing to make improvements. I had one question on the DCT that I haven't been able to find an answer to... When you go into the settings on the information center, are you able to set custom shift RPMs for each gear or are these all preset, and locked in? When you did a couple of WOT runs, it looked like it shifted right at 6000 RPM or just a little beyond, which is perfect since most reviewers indicate there is really no reason to rev it on to redline due to the power dropping off sharply after 6000 RPM. Again, thanks for being fair and impartial... :)

    • @SOBIsHobbies
      @SOBIsHobbies 7 лет назад +8

      Ray Mahannah I have one of these with DCT transmission. In regards to your question, unfortunately there is no option in settings mode to adjust your RPM's. They're already pre-set. However, when you drive it in regular mode it shifts gears right around 1,5-2K to reduce fuel consumption to minimum. It's relatively low compare to other cars in this category. It's got lots of power and torque for its size and engine. But when you put it in to sport mode then RPM's will go up to 5-6K before transmission starts to shift gears, but when it shifts since it's a DCT it shifts very quickly that you won't even notice much of a power drop. Overall, this is a very good and fun to drive car. For its price it's totally worth it.

    • @anamethat
      @anamethat 5 лет назад

      I'm seriously considering buying one of these used - am wondering the same thing. I think this iteration of Hyundai's DCT is relatively new, so I don't have a lot of confidence in it. The manual is probably the better bet for reliability, I'd imagine. A bit less fuel efficient though.

      I have the 6MT, not sure what RPM it's at around 60mph, though I will say that my car is currently averaging 35-36mpg during my work commute. EPA ratings are WAY off in a good way. This matches the mileage I was getting in my 2.0L N/A Kia Forte Koup EX. Absolutely no complaints there.

    • @TheTopher
      @TheTopher  7 лет назад +4

      It's not quite up to VW DSG level, but it's not bad for an initial attempt by Hyundai. I just drove the new Hyundai IONIQ with the DCT and that's pretty good too...and it's a hybrid. I definitely like the direction they're going with their DCTs. They're smooth transmissions, no lurching or clutching action at low speeds like the early VW DSGs, shifts could be a bit quicker, but in the realm of things are still pretty fast.

      You've probably made up your mind by now, but I believe it would be. The rear seat room is more than ample enough for kids, and if you have an SUV to pair it with, you've got a good combination. Though I've actually been quite impressed with the trunk space, and how well it has fit some larger items than the Mazda 3 I had before.

DCT is suppose to be faster (I know it is for certain from 0-60) but not sure how it will fare against the manual version say from 60~ 130 mph performance. Manual, despite its larger gear spacing, it might make up for the lose of power to the ground compared to the DCT version since the manual is nearly 200 lbs lighter...

    • @iamanoobiecheez
      @iamanoobiecheez 7 лет назад +3

      Bryan - The new Hyundai Elantra not only uses high torsional rigidity but also the sheet metal is 2~ 3 times stronger to prevent from bending. There was test comparison between the new Hyundai sheet metal vs typical other manufacturer's current sheet metal and there is huge difference. Looks like you not gonna have to worry about door dings in the parking lots with this car.

    • @bryanespey
      @bryanespey 7 лет назад

      Thanks! I'm less worried about door dings and more concerned with the rigidity of the body structure. I've owned a newer Focus and TLX since the Sonata and haven't seen the same issues with bump/rough road management. I hope Hyundai has invested in more in this area.
