They upgraded the thing that makes the signal coming from the mic louder. Mics output a sound that isn't very loud so preamps are needed to make that sound louder. Better quality preamp can get you a louder mic signal without causing additional hiss. Some mics have hiss that is part of their electronics but for the most part it's not loud enough to noticeably affect the audio recorded. 69DB of gain is enough to get pretty much any type of mic, no matter the output level to a usable range. They also upgraded the part of the interface that's responsible for turning your analog (mic) input to the digital signal your PC will receive, which makes the audio potentially better. And the headphone output can have better quality potential as a result as well. However, that is allegedly since we've reached indistinguishable points of audio quality a long time ago.

UMC204HD. Has 2 mic / trs combo jacks, midi i/o, studio monitor connections and a pretty decent headphone out with proper stereo monitoring of your input. The preamp is about -129.2 dbFS so on par with Scarlett in noise floor but without the driver issues of third gen
The thing i don't like about this interface is that you can't control the 48v of phantom power PER xle input. You have to either enable it for both or none

It’s still sound good

Return it, or exchange for a motu m2 if they don't let you refund.
Lol, bought the solo 3 yesterday

Id 4 is the best for
Budget its preamp is far more better than scarlet’s
Which one is better? UAD Volt 2 or this?
I'm new to all of this. How do you connect the mic? I ask because the curcular mic input looks different than the other preamps
The mic inputs are on the back
I own one. I love it. Can’t complain about it.
Ouuuuuu THEY ADDED HARMONIC SATURATIONN may have to cop
So does this mean i would not need a cloudlifter to go with my SM7B for it to work if i get the 4th gen scarlett
Yes listen to my example recordings in this same video that demonstrate exactly the setup you’re asking about

No More xlr?
There are no longer combo input jacks. Instead, there are 1/4” input jacks on the front and XLR input jacks on the back of the unit.
@@BlackGhostAudio Seperate ADC for each input or does that allow you to use both at once?
