- To get Ben (Jay R. Ferguson) back, Darlene (Sara Gilbert) tries to make a big, romantic gesture by signing her divorce papers in front of him. Unfortunately, all she ends up doing is revealing more and more incriminating details. Watch 'The Conners' TUESDAY 8|7c on ABC.

That partially balances on the actors career more than anything. Due to his success with Big Bang theory, Jonathan has become a rising star with plenty of offers and I'm sure his schedule was set off so that he couldn't do the Roseanne reboot or the Conners. BUT they did want to make him part of the show in some way with appearances and outside of killing his character and being a ghost, the only other way he can appear on show is guest appearances due to being a deadbeat dad. The "away on business" is both passe and something that his character would not grow up to be.
@@Bull1908 That's a good point. It's a shame the writers still chose that route for the character. They could've figured out something that would've served the character better in my book.

I think if I were a middle-aged woman who basically had to raise two kids on my own because my husband went to go "find himself" or whatever David's excuse was, I'd age a hell of a lot more than Darlene did.

so is this show a success? a lot of people wanted it to fail because they didn't think Roseanne screwed up but the clips I've seen have been pretty funny.
Yeah, the shows gotten a lot better and has barely done anything with politics. The only political episodes I can recall revolved around one of the primaries (which was a special live event that gave audiences a play by play on what's going on with the Democratic candidates), and an ICE episode which was less an episode and more of Becky's babies daddy being deported. Since Roseanne left though, they decided to go back to focusing on the family dynamic, which I feel has made the show stronger.

Well Ben is somewhat more successful, and has more confidence in himself. Ben is more manly and he knows how to "tame" Darlene. Plus he's already more of a father figure to Mark than David ever was.

Besides the fact David abandoned her for 9 years and Ben is someone who doesn't take Darlene's shit, which she realized she needed instead of someone like David who was too passive for her personality, you know, that.
2 reason, first reason, THEY WROTE IT IN THE SCRIPT! Second Reason, ACTOR WAS ON A DIFFERENT SHOW AT THE RIME!
Also somewhere I read even though TBBT ended Johnny (David's actor) didn't want to commit to another series so soon. Otherwise Darlene would've probably ended up with David.
This was the weakest Halloween episode for the Connors it was extremely disappointing

Realistically, this guy would never be dating Darlene, he is pretty attractive and well....can't say much for her looks!!! The show could have tried to make her look a little more attractive!!!
God, Sara Gilbert is so funny. As a boy growing up, Roseanne and Darlene pretty much designed the entire basis and foundation of my style of humor and sarcasm going forward. They are the root of my sense of humor in life, later supplemented by people like Bill Murray, etc.
