True story my daughter works for a small company for one of a kind purses in Manhattan the owners are Columbine so we’re puerto rican and so a white girl came in one day and one of the purses had a design of a platano on it and she asked my daughter what was a platano? my daughter replied it’s a plantain so the white girl still looked confused and asked her what’s a plantain? My daughter was taken a back and looked at her for a couple of seconds then she said she got a hold of herself and started to school her of what platanos are and what it meant to the Latino and caribbean culture. So my daughter said after she finished explaining the girl looks at my daughter up and down and said whatever didn’t need to hear all that then she left. My daughter said it took all her strength not to curse or punch the shit out of her. But yeah there’s people out there who really don’t know what platanos are and us Latinos just look at them like there from outer space!

See because I'm Jamaican, when she pronounces it as plan-tanes it doesn't sit right with my soul. In Jamaica we say plant-tin or plant-in.
Also it can be eaten for breakfast. Some fried plantain, scrambles eggs., sausages and two slices of bread.

The first ones, the fried plátanos, are also called Maduros or Amarillos in the Caribbean. I'm from PR and in my household we call them Amarillos, but I got friends and know others that call them Maduros ☺️

In The Bahamas we eat fried plantains as a side of basically any dinner dish; we boil them with other veggies (what we call a boil up) and it’s also a great addition to okra soup 😋😋🇧🇸🇧🇸
