Amazing! In Madagascar we consume them differently! We eat those like oysters 🦪, in the shell with just enough lemon or lime juice! The only difference with oysters is that you have to chew a lil bit instead of straight up swallowing!
Mike Carr For me, I think it's because I'm not used to it. I'm from the States, and are definition of "street food" is nothing like this. Even going into specialty restaurants, you don't see this part of the process. I think it's cool to learn what other populations consider standard foods or delicacies and see how they differ from mine.
AKAGAI looks red because it uses iron as a catalyst to supply oxygen to the body. Many species of shellfish use copper for the blood, blood color is clear.
In El Salvador, these big ones we call "donkey hulls" have almost the same taste as the "curiles" and the "conchas", of the same species but smaller, they can be eaten directly from their shell, alone or with Salt, lemon, and tabasco, it's taste are metallic and sweet, delicious!!. Also prepare in cocktails with tomato, onion, radish, coriander finely chopped and seasoned with lemon juice, salt, Worcestershire suase and tabasco sause.
wow..... giant sized blood cockles, also commonly known as "see harm" in Singapore..... challenging to eat it 100% raw because it has a strong metallic taste of blood.... we usually blanch them in the shell in a rolling boil for 10-30 seconds depending on your preference of doneness, then eat them with a spicy sambal belachan chilli sauce. Can be done as a hot plate or stir fried dish too, but by and large the simple blanch and sambal method seems to be the most popular method here.
Hi, just some friendly input here, would it be possible for you to put the locations of the places that you ate at in the description of each video? It would really help out people like me who are searching for foodie destinations, really enjoy the videos you're making. Cheers from Singapore:)
It's amazing ho much effort and time they took to make this into sashimi while in my country we just wash and throw it into boiling water. I have a friend that underestimates sashimi saying that it is something easy to make and you don't even have to cook it. But after watching this video I'm sure he'll understand that making a sashimi require skills.
They're called Blood Clams at least to my knowledge that's the name used back home, but generally it's cautioned not to eat them certainly not eat them raw as they do tend to ingest a lot of bacteria and viruses (Hepatitis A and E, Typhoid, Dysentery). I mean you certainly CAN eat them, but it is a risk you're taking to eat them so it's just important to be wise about what you consume and to not consume blindly. It's also wise not to consume everything raw. Just some facts in case anyone get the chance to eat these so they know the risks involved.
Well yeah i used to eat them back in my hometown they was delicious bit never eat em raw, and you are right you must selective about what do you eat since i also know the fact
Also in my hometown they used to grow near mangrove forest when there so much food stock caried in the mud in my oppinion that's whay their collor is red
It's actually a almeja negra la pata de mulas shell looks like a mulas pata or the foot of a mule almost heart shaped. The liquor of the pata de mula is black while this blood clam is red. They both taste similar and sometimes they serve these as pata de mula
It's amazing how detailed the Japanese prepares their food. I watched a video of a preparation of sea cucumber done by a Japanese. At first I was grossed out but seeing how clean it was done I thought I might actually try some.

I don't see how they can eat this clam raw because it has a very strong bloody wild taste. My family used to boil them in water with limes, lemon grass, salt, hot chilly peppers, and seafood mix. Then dipped them in either soy sauce or fish sauce. Eating them raw will make me throw up!
In Vietnam we call it “Sò Huyết” but this one is soooo big. In Viet Nam we have little one which have blood inside. The other one with no blood and same appearance call “Sò Lông”.
Ohhh. Love these. Langkawi Island has these fat cockles in season and they are a delight. Smooth and firm textured with a pronounced mineral and iron taste (all that blood! Hahaha). Taste great if grilles over a charcoal fire. It intensifies the flavour and aroma.
Iove how the Japanese are so gifted and talented in so many ways. I always wish I could meet a real Japanese cook and go to Japan and see the exotic experience there. They can cook so good it's pitiful....
i swear Japan makes sashimi out of everything lol.... Last time i went to Japan, I saw them serving chicken sashimi. Yep raw ass chicken, and it tasted good. I'm still alive lol
Ive seen fish and other sea creatures I never knew existed on this channel. Though I would probably never ever try any of the sea creatures eaten, I do enjoy watching them being prepared.

Chef Rafi's Awesome World some if us do. :) Had a lot if it in Langkawi when I lived there. Tried it raw once and loved the strong iron taste. However, to me, it tastes best if grilled on charcoal flame. The flavour and aroma intensifies. Major yummy!
1. Is that SALT that chef use to clean the clam 2. What kind of water that chef use for clean and chilling? Just Tap water? Or water with salt? 3. Why does he slam the clam?
Reading the comments as I was watching this made me think it was going to be a bloodbath but....really its not. I might be more than a little desensitized to this. The *blood* just looks like red wine to me.

牧山和久 wow new knowledge

牧山和久 does it taste like blood too when eaten raw?
This would also mean that red clams are much lower in copper, making them unsuited to treat copper deficiencies, but much higher in iron.
no, they look red coz they had too many sex, just like overused penis

A 19 minutes video doesnt feel like a 19 minutes video. I'm totally amazed. Gonna replay this when I need something relaxing to watch.
Quite a waste of water when they let the faucet run all the time, even when it's not being used for washing stuffs.
