Last time we finally got our non-Si 8th gen Civic started. We got the ECU reflashed at the dealership to do so and now it's time for the good stuff! Time to hit the dyno to see what kind of power the TSX sourced K24 makes. Once we have that set, it's time to match up with our Civic Si, Project Dadmobile, to see if the work was worth it.

I'm so glad someone finally K swapped the R18 chassis, I was so tired of forums just saying "just get an Si" and "it's not worth the time or money"

You don't though. We used the Si transmission since we had one handy, but you can use any manual K series transmission.

@@Itspossiblekj yea in my area you can get an si for 3 to 5 k ..... which is the cost of just the r18 and maybe an engine , nevermind the other half of an si required to retrofit the k into the r18 .

Just a note for you guys on the r18 and si Axels. I live in Canada so we have the Acura csx which comes with a k20z2 which is identical to the rsx k20a3 engine. I used the k20z2 axles with my dx-g hubs no problems
So, the non-Type S CSX must have hubs that fit the smaller splines. Good to know.

Good tip on the 'summer-proof' shift knob. Another one that works in AZ summers is the Skunk2.
In highschool I kept an old facecloth in my car on hot summer days to put over the shift knob for driving lol
there are so many variables in a race, driver weight, shifting technique, tires, wheels, how good the specific engine is in that exact car as no two engines are the same

Little tip for the power steering bleed when its dry, hook up your remote starter and pull the fuel pump fuse fill the resevoir up until its full and crank the engine a few times to get fluid pumped through the pump itself and let the air purge for a second and then repeat, after the fluid starts to even itself out turn the steering wheel lock to lock until the resevoir stops pumping air bubbles. Hook everything back up and bleed as per usual. Helps alot with the first start up causing so much foam. PS Loving this channel glad i stumbled upon you guys the honesty and straight to problem solving with you guys is great keep it up you guys got yourself another subscriber
Also I realize there was no issues here with the civic but ive learned my lesson before on some subarus so thought i would mention
glad to find my car getting swapped been searching everywhere to see if it was possible to swap an automatic 8th gen r18 to a k series with a manuel trans and you basically just answered all my questions 🎉 tired of people saying to just get an si when their literally over 14k where i live but guess what ? i can pick k20’s and k24’s up like candy for a mild 3-700$ where im at so it’s literally looking like the best option is just to swap the car i already have instead of finding a new car to swap cause even basic hatches are going for like 5-6k in my area now it’s almost not worth it to even buy a new honda of any sort unless it’s totaled people want 6-7 k for a car with 350k miles like what??? so yup just gonna pick me up a k series and manual trans with everything else i need and get it done lol
I would like to see all of those engines in this chassis. Same with the k20/23 hybrid you were playing with earlier in the year. Or if you get really wild mate the whole K23 to a J series transmission and swap that into the 8th gen. (IIRC the k23 was supposed to use the same transmissions as the v6/J series)
J series for sure but J30AC If you can get your hands on one. J30AC is maybe not a great business decision, but it would be a ton of fun!

Hell yeah I have a 2009 Honda civic ex coupe with an r18 so I guess if something ever happens to the factory engine this is what I'm gonna do sense it's an option now haha 🤣
I have a question, is this a project budget build to just have fun? Because there’s a lot of cheap stuff being put into this motor for instance cheap power steering fluid, rsx power steering line hose, stock CAI.
I had a 2008 R18 civic that was gifted to me about 18 months ago. It was a massive shitbox. It had been wrecked and repaired poorly. SRS light was blocked with a gum wrapper. Had to replace the module and program it. Took over $1500 just in parts to get it road worthy

7PK1405 tested on k20z2. And it's a bit on the lose side.
I have an R18 and I would like to swap to a k20 or k24 what exactly do you need for the swap apart from the engine and gearbox?
I totally forgot that k24s aren’t high reviving engines in order for them to rev that high 8k-9k the cams would have to be aftermarket or from a k20 aside from valve springs & retainers if I’m not wrong lol

Cool video, but at the end it kinda blew the validity of it being an “si killer”. Maybe a “stock si” killer, but the stock tune on 8th gen si is trash compared to a tune. Tune vs not tuned is a massive difference imo. My k20z3 makes 220hp tuned NA with bolt ons.

Gear shift knob has been swapped
Very random question but I have a 09 Tsx and I’d like to swap in a s2000 cluster do you think if I was to make an adapter harness to make it plug into the tsx dash harness would it function properly or would something need to be done?
My guess is no. I believe there will be a problem with CAN communication. It may throw a communication code on the computer and the temp gauge won't work.

Initially you poor the fluid in, have the wheels off the ground, with the engine off, turn the steering wheel all the way to the ends a few times then start the engine on and let it run

Yes you can. When we do our CRV key 24 swap, will show you how to get past the wiring on that swap.

It'd be like a totally different car for sure.
They’re not axles, they’re driveshafts. A Dana 60 or a Ford 9” is an axle.
They’re not knuckles, they’re constant velocity joints. A knuckle is part of your finger, not part of your car.

Stock still would get dusted. That 20% increase in displacement just makes more torque.

Hey Brian Guilespe, I have a question for you to shed some light on, for me please. I have a 2015 civic exl sedan cvt auto. My question is, can I swap what you did in the 07 civic in my car and also have an si killer with a/c power steering and all that would be AWESOME!! Thanks and take care.
For that year you would need to swap the 12-15 Si engine. I’m sure it could be done, but since I don’t have one of those cars, I have not done it.

If I may ask..... why do a basemap tune if the original intent was to get it tuned anyway? And another question....was it throwing codes for the VTEC solenoid? Or was the sole purpose of changing it was because it wasn't hitting "VTEC"?
So the motor doesn't burn anything up. And the you can see that before the VTEC wouldn't kick in and he couldn't get past 6,000 rpm

What is the length of the power steering pump hose?
31 1/4 inches from end of where the connector piece is. Don’t forget that it needs to be oriented in a specific way to bolt up to the pump. So you may have to go with a test hose to clock it correctly.
The 2006 Civic coupe with 5 spd stick r18 is 2.5 s faster than 2009 to 60 ...7.3/7.7 vs 9.7 for 09 auto it's painfully slow I test drove one I thought it felt a lot slower than my 06 it is hella
Put a J series in it next they are rather plentiful in the junkyard
