I’m not sure if your new to town but there is nothing out of the ordinary for this storm. I’ve lived here almost 40 years and can tell you it was underwhelming at best. Also the big rock gets tides up around it every year. More than once too. I’m glad you enjoyed it though.
I was born on the Quadra ferry. This was a pretty epic storm combined with an extreme high tide. You’re telling me this goes on all the time? I know it wasn’t like there was trees down everywhere, but it was pretty crazy

Also if your near the Quadra ferry then you will remember only a couple years ago when the tides were so high water came across to the entrance of Tyee plaza and so much driftwood covered the entrance to the ferry, Tyee plaza and the highway that it was down to 2 lanes instead of 4.

IMAGINE the psychological effects these words havecon some people...."Bomb Cyclone" After 65 years of listening to weather news, I am amazed at how terminology has changed
Exactly me also grew up in sooke and victora and a commerical fisherman they just changed the names for fear mongering!! We had same storms in 80s and 90s. Bomb cyclones!! Rolmfao!! Heat domes! And atmospheric rivers!! Wtf is next! Dont say bomb cyclone in the air port youll go to jail!!! Lmao

I felt the exact same way when I brought it home and watched the footage. I couldn’t believe it. I think I’m gonna get a whole dry set up and get under the water there and go try to find fishing gear and fun stuff.
Yep always keep a boathook handy. LOL Thing is you get sucked under the log, and it's over. We had the same thing happen a couple years ago. one of them was taking a wizz and lost his footing and his girlfriend jumped in after him, lost em both didn't find them for a week. yah it would mangle the frame for sure, that's a pretty big bimini. there was pretty high tides this past week, ugly combo. We got hit pretty good here too, only 60 to 70 mph, but clear and down in the lower 20's and teens fahrenheit.
Hey buddy sorry for the delayed response. That’s sad about the couple. He fell in and got swept under a log and she went in after him? Tragic. Glad Youguys didn’t get hit super hard up there. Winter is coming that’s for sure lol

They found him after a few days when the water went down. she got swept out in the channel and fishermen found her about 10 miles down the beach. We supposed to get a foot of snow tomorrow, cold stuff pushing down from the yukon.
@ that’s super sad. I actually fell thru a frozen goldfish pond when I was almost two. Was under water for 8 minutes. Iv been lucky to live every day since then. Yea we had a cold front it got slushy but not muck of the sticky stuff. Our mountains have two meters already tho. Stay warm and safe my friend

It did not move the big rock to my knowledge. But yea the tides haven’t been that high since iv lived here. Yep family is always on my mind when filming stuff. Yea the underwater case is going to open up a whole new world to adventure in :)

Excellent film. I went down to Big Rock yesterday (Friday). It was very calm in the afternoon and the beach was quite clear of driftwood. The rocks were very clean and smooth.

Lots of similar hobbies. He is a BC transport from Alberta and looks like he wont ever be going back there, haha. That is always the case when others visit I find. Good on you for helping with your family boat.

I think you will like those videos he has from prior years surrounding that whole thing. Also he has a crossbow but unsure how much uses. He has been hardcore into freediving in our majestic Salish Sea plus in Indo for a year now. If you watch a lot of his earlier footage he did/does a lot of (wants to do more), but lives in epic custom built van) of what your mum was up to in homestead video with clean eating and such. The whole clean lifestyle. I got on him about freediving and harassed him so much that he got right into such via the fab Chris Samson PNW Samson channel. Now best of buds so I pat self on back about that, haha. Ciao ciao

Most of that timber was already on the shore it just gets hit by the waves. This was a very high tide + the wind surge makes the tide a little higher. This happens on every storm when it is high tide!
@@JeremyDoesThings the dock is just fine. My company built it with CR engineering to withstand much more than that and also the city brings an excavator in almost every year to get out the trapped driftwood and logs that get stuck under them.

I am a powerlineman and in the trade for 25 plus years now, so I typically see and have to work in all the destruction every winter storm. It happens multiple times a year. The waves hit the point and come up over the road to splash all the houses. Nothing new. Nothing worthy of a doom and gloom name like bomb cyclone. Just a typical winter storm.
I used to live there and one xtorm had power lines down. Had to figure out how to get home. Behind my house was a good thing the tress fell opposite of my house instead of on it in another storm❤
That’s an interesting thought. But I’m thinking it’s the highest tides we’ve had in a long time and all of our beaches are loaded with Driftwood so every single beach was getting emptied of wood and dispersed into these little bays.
I launched the ex whale watching RIB with twin 250 outboards out of James Bay in Victoria during the Bomb Cyclone and went for a rip around to Oak Bay and back , hardest part was reloading back on the trailer .
