    Thanks for this video! I would not have done this myself without given the courage by watching your video. I got the Headliner Magic headliner material from Amazon for 50 bucks and today I did the pull and adhesion. Went OK. I have a 2003 Xterra so I'd like to put my two sense in about a couple of things for those that may want to do this. LOSE THE NET attached to the headliner. I knew there was something up when the woman asked about it and he was like, I'll take that off later. The thing has the dumbest design ever on the back side. Plastic posts going through it and then these clips totally designed NOT to ever be taken off on the other. Let's get real, that net is pretty much useless anyway. You can't put anything in it that will fall through, or anything that will get stuck (ie SUNGLASSES). To me it was useless. Sits behind me and can't put anything in it but papers and why? So do yourself a favor and just give it up. Notice his finished product doesn't have the holes cut, nor does he reinstall it afterward. I tried to take the clips off the back and if you have an older vehicle like a 2003 the plastic is baked and will crack easily with most any pressure. I broke one of the posts and then asked myself... why am I trying to save this thing. So just break it off and throw it out. Another thing... get yourself like 20 razor blades. I don't know what industrial strength blades he's using but I just bought your regular blades at Lowes and the first cut is beautiful and you think to yourself, this is gonna be easy. Little do you know that that first cut is the last cut like it. LOL I went through at least 10. And then lastly. I ended up using Permetex headliner adhesive. DO NOT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE CAN. The adhesive is nothing like this guys. I got to the point of spraying and I did what this guy did... flick of the rist up... let it come down and start spreading from the center but anywhere this glue connects together even after 30 seconds... it sticks. I literally though I was going to tear the foam backing off when I tried to release the edges that had stuck when I initially lay it over and stared from the center working out. You'll eventually figure out how to manuever the fabric to relieve that problem, all I'm saying is... in this video it looks like you can just flick your wrist and the edges are manueverable. It was a panic at first but you can get it apart to lay it back down. And lastly... taking it out did not go as easily. I did eventually get it but those protruding plastic parts can get stuck under the rim of the columns in the vehicle so be aware. Also it sounds like a cardboard box bending in half and I was incredibly worried I was doing it wrong and it would be bent forever. But it went back into shave just fine. So just be aware, it gives you a heart attack at first. I will try to install it tomorrow. Very excited to get that saggy nasty old one gone for good!
    Thanks for the video again! really really helped.

      You are 100 % on the plastic net thingy! I dislike that net holder. I will find the replacement clips and put a link in the description and also in the future do a video on the removal and reinstall of that horrible center net console piece. Thank you for your journey reveal. I think others can learn from each experience. I would love to add your story with a pic to the website. I working on adding a page for testimonials and pic of the completed works.

      @@HeadlinerMagic I will see what I can do about pics. I only took a couple. One while I was cleaning it up. Oh and for those reading, spend the 5 bucks for a rotary wire brush on your drill. Totally worth it. Took another one with the fabric laid across. Will take the final adhesion tomorrow as its in the garage resting and desmelling for the night. And then I'll take one of it installed. I was worried that perhaps the net thingy screwed part might be needed to stop the top from vibrating on the roof so all I did was cut the net section off, leaving just the straight part where the screws and cover go on and when I install tomorrow I'll just screw that in for extra strength from sag and vibration. I'll take some pics.

    I replaced mine on an Xterra 2002 this weekend. In order to remove it, I didn’t remove the pillars but had to detached/pulled and popped them out of the clips holding it to the interior slightly. Then I pulled back and it was easy. When putting it back in, make sure you guide it so the edges slide above and behind the pillars of at least one whole side. Just trying to jam it in there might damage the material even though is quite flexible. I tried to do
    as described on the video and had to remove and start all over so I just guided it at least behind one of the sides completely and didn’t have to bend down on the center. This bending on center was causing my headliner to develop some ugly wrinkles and not just on the fabric but the actual hard headliner shell. Thanks for the rest of the installation tips.

    i see a few different headliner fabrics, and I'm confused on the types. some say that they have foam attached to it... is this needed for this particular car's headliner? or can I just get a similar fabric without the foam on it?

    • @HeadlinerMagic
      @HeadlinerMagic  2 года назад +1

      You can use a fabric without the foam backing as long as the glue is sprayed in a way were it does not bleed Thru the fabric. You will need to use an adhesive that comes out in a sight mist and sprayed not to close. Marcus

    MY STORY. I called a auto restoration shop and the told me $800 to $1000 to do the headliner for my 2004 Nissan Xterra. I wanted to VOMIT, hearing that RIDICULOUS PRICE! After that, I figured, I can do this myself. I found your RUclips channel and with you insight, knowledge and you posting this video.... I'm doing it myself.
    Thanks, so much for posting this. You saved me $1000. Because I'm a black they most definitely would have charging me the higher price... LO LOL LOL

      Thank you for Subcribing to the channel first off. Chaz Man I so glad to hear that you didn't fall for that pricing. That is about 2x what I charge. And I just had a price increase. The 04 is easy too. The only thing you have to worry about is the center net console. On the back it has some plastic studs with washer type fastners. You will have to scrifice the clips just take some pliers and squezz them until they break. Then when you re-install it just us a hot melt gun around the plastic studs. Use this method if you do the job before I make a video letting you know I have the new replacement clips instock. Thanks again for checking out the channel. Marcus

    • @HeadlinerMagic
      @HeadlinerMagic  5 лет назад +2

      You would need 3 yards. 2 1/2 yards on the headliner board and 1/2 yard for the sun-visors. 60 inches wide will give you enough to wrap your edges. You could use any material as long as the glue is sprayed light enough on the material backside and there is no bleed thru. The best way to avoid this is to just spray the board very well and let it set till its sticky but not totally dry. Then lay the material down and smooth it out.

    Hello. Thank you very much for the video. I have a 2003 Xterra, so it has the same headliner as a 2004 or 2002. I like how you don't have to take all of the trim off to get the headliner out, and you show how to take out the headliner without taking any pillars off, but my question is how do you put it back in? Do you put it in the same way as you take it out? I'm not really sure how that works putting the headliner back in. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear back soon!

    • @HeadlinerMagic
      @HeadlinerMagic  6 лет назад +5

      Thank you for the comment. And yes the headliner will go back in just as easy. You will wedge it in one side to get it started and position yourself in the center of the vehicle. And while pulling downward on the center of the board with one hand, use the other hand to wedge the opposite side into place. once the edges are tucked in let go of the center bowed area and the board will pop back into place behind the pillars. The board is very flexible you wont hurt it at all by bending it to you will.

      We sacrificed 2 of the pegs close to the screw holes. By using needle nose pliers we squeezed the two clamps on the pegs away from the screw holes to break them free from the pegs. Then the two pegs we broke off as sacrifices we used the clamps from those to reinstall.

That part you are referring to you will first have two Philip head screws underneath a small plate that you can see hanging at the 0:29 time stamp. After removing those two hardware. Flip the board over and with a pair of needle nose pliers you will need to break the Push-On Retaining Rings on the plastic pegs. If you could measure one I will post the place to purchase replacements rings here in the video description. Once you remove those 8 rings if I remember correctly.
