There are going to be big lawsuits in Georgia. These trucks were legal for a while and then they decided to revoke all of the registrations and bar the vehicles from the roads. They are great trucks. The US manufacturers and the oil industry hate the idea of inexpensive and fuel efficient trucks becoming the new norm.

In the Philippines importers disassemble these kei trucks in Japan then transport it on a 20 or 40 ft container van to avoid paying high taxes. Then once it arrives, they rebuild it and convert it left hand drive.

The 25% is the US Chicken Tax of 1964. Ford was getting around it with Ford Transit only a couple of years ago. They were built in Turkey. They had "Rear Seats" that if you act them funny, were rear seats. They come in, but because they had rear seats they could skirt some tariff laws. Once in the US, the rear seats were thrown away. In the 70s Japanese trucks wouldn't come in with truck beds. The beds were made in the US and attatched here.
Try living in Denmark. 25% VAT and 150% register tax on all vehicles. A car that costs 20k in the US costs 57.5k in Denmark. Not to mention the "owner's tax", which ranges from $60 to $1200 dollars depending on your vehicles engine and milage. Oh, and that's twice a year.
it's so messed up that US emissions requirements are based on vehicle weight and size and not on vehicle performance or some other metric. Like yeah you can make a POS low mileage truck as long as it's big and heavy and expensive, but don't you dare make a small truck that can do the same job at the same emissions for less money.

For anyone who doesn't know, Japan has strict rules on older vehicles so there's a glut of perfectly good used cars that can't be driven in Japan. You can buy an older Japanese vehicle for next to nothing and then just pay all the fees and shipping costs. As we see illustrated here, often the shipping and processing is more than the cost of the actual vehicle. Yet still cheaper than most used vehicles here.
Japan ships thousands of used cars to South America. Some very different models: AWD, diesel Toyota Corollas for example. Then, they switch the steering wheel to the left and modify the suspension. A bit scary to drive. These same used cars may not pass USA safety and emissions standards. Repair parts availability may also be an issue in the U.S.
I was happy to buy my Honda acty for $7k with US Florida title, low miles, ac and five speed. Best part is I could test drive it and check it out before paying anything. Had it now for four years and no major issues. Still zero rust and runs amazing.

It's better to buy/ship used Japanese kei trucks from the Philippines. Why? Because other than having a large industry of selling used Japanese Kei trucks or even other Kei vehicles here, the best part is before they resell it, those kei trucks are already converted to LHD versions which is a requirement for all vehicles here in the Philippines before reselling it to the public. And because of this many of those dealerships can already be considered experts in converting those kei trucks since they had convert so many of them already.
These import taxes/fees/duties are similar to what we pay in most African countries. All vehicle prices are atleast double the price we pay from where we buy.. it is insane and we pay in cash 😅
Mark up at an American dealership would make the price $14,500 after all the fees and add ons like a pin stripe, window tint, floor mats, blinker fluid, Freon air in tires, bed liner and paint protector. 😂

For that you could have bought a street legal used fleet Chevy Colorado and gotten it the same day. Parts easily available.

These import taxes/fees/duties are similar to what we pay in most African countries. All vehicle prices are atleast double the price we pay from where we buy.. it is insane and we pay in cash 😅
Mark up at an American dealership would make the price $14,500 after all the fees and add ons like a pin stripe, window tint, floor mats, blinker fluid, Freon air in tires, bed liner and paint protector. 😂
