      I think both Ben Stiller and Steve Carell said in an interview at some point that they entered acting intending to take on more heavier roles. But yeah I agree. But it's also interesting comparing them to people like Robert Di Niro who have sort of done the opposite in their acting careers.

      Yes! God I still love that movie so much. A lot of his older stuff was actually really good (IMO) and was funny but still at moments very emotional and grounding. I've cried at a lot of his movies like Click, Big Daddy, 50 first dates, etc.

    I also absolutely love The Wedding Singer. It’s a comedy that allows for a lot of his typical “Sandler-isms” but not so overtly it’s obnoxious, it’s truly funny, and actually has genuine heart whelming rom com moments. I 100% agree with ur Happy Gilmore choice, but I feel like this one is also super underrated and really great.

He's very liked and many people see him as an amazing actor! Even if some may not like him or not give him a chance, that's just a very few people...at least in the film community. Adam Sandler is way more unliked than Robert and also there is a video that talks about how underrated Robert is, I don't remember who made it, but it's out there and it's good!

    I managed to watch Uncut Gems at TIFF, and I can say that it's one of, if not, his best performance to date. For certain parts of the film, I forgot that I was watching Adam Sandler. He completely disappears into the role. Thank God for the Safdie Brothers.

      Yea I agree. I heard a lot of people criticize it as him just yelling for two hours but I thought his performance was really dynamic and beautiful. Playing a man who himself is trying to act in different roles in his life (with his family vs in the shop with clients vs being in the back office etc.) his character himself was a man that was playing different characters and trying desperately to keep it all together while he simultaneously fucks it up worse and worse. I really thought it was an amazing performance And He 100% deserves all the accolades he’s getting imo.

      they’re bad because there is so little effort put into them, more specifically the recent ones. the writing is samey and all the jokes are lowest common denominator. they haven’t evolved, and for some reason there are many people that are okay with this.

      You're definitely allowed to like and even love bad movies. I think everyone has those movies that we see the flaws but it only makes them more endearing. Film is the only medium where a "bad" product can be truly loved and adorned. Make a bad book, it's a bad book. Make a bad video game, it's a bad video game. Make a bad movie and you will get a cult classic with huge following cause they connected to it.

Every time I enjoy a funny goofy movie I always go on the internet and find out people hate it because of terrible story or acting or something.     I grew up on sandler movies and will confidently say this man is the best thing to happen in my life. Whenever I see him I think I have just met an old time friend. I hope he keeps up his great and comedic acting and lives till a good old age!

    I grew up with my dad putting on a lot of Adam Sandler movies and I enjoyed every Adam Sandler movie there is to my memory to me every time I see him I think of my father and to me Adam is like my dad.

    According to countless sources, he's actually a great guy in person. Surprisingly down to Earth and very generous with friends and fans alike. Thomas F. Wilson (Biff from BttF) says he's his favorite person in Hollywood, and after meeting Wilson I trust his opinion. He's also a really nice guy. Has Happy Madison mostly made garbage since its inception? Yeah, I can't deny that. Still, everything from Happy Gilmore to Big Daddy is great, in my opinion.

      I used to work with a guy who hated Zohan so much that he would literally bury every copy around him beneath the dirt.

    The SNL sketch he was in last season, the one with the honest travel agent, was both hilarious and heartbreaking. The episode win an Emmy and I’m willing to bet for that sketch.

    What makes him "not a great person?". Never heard anyone complain about him as a person before.
    Otherwise mostly agree with your assessment, with the exception of Happy Gilmore, of course.
    If you would have asked me if he was a great actor 5 years ago, I would have said, "maybe". Punch Drunk Love being the amazing film it was, I am not sure, it was enough to get him to that great status (Spanglish doesn't come close, nor does Funny People, imo). With the release of The Meyerowitz Stories and this new one, he is *_finally_* showing everyone he does in fact have some chops.
    I never disliked him as an actor and always knew he had potential due to Punch Drunk, but I always did consider his films to be pretty garbage, even while most people used to highly praise all of his comedic roles. So yeah, I am pretty stoked that he is doing some other more dramatic type roles, because he really does shine in them. Good for him:)

      I agree it's a pretty odd Association for him to make bad movies equals bad person? I don't remember hearing about any bad scandals Adams been in. A lot of people are noticing this. maybe this guy will add a little footnote saying he misspoke. who knows

Idk, I think that pushing it a bit if people want to complain about that. Who knows what Karsten actually meant, though.

    Seriously the Meyerowitz Stories quickly became one of my favorite films. It’s on Netflix, watch it. It’s so worth it. It makes you emotional, it’s so relatable, and it makes you think. And I need to restate, it’s so relatable. If you have a family, you will relate to it in some way. I relate to it so much in so many big and little ways. Can’t recommend it enough, watch the Meyerowitz Stories (and the rest of Noah Baumbach’s films, true genius he is).
