Guthrie govan is not a god. Im kinda sick people keep talking about him. He doesnt give a significant contribution to guitar world. No new technic , no shit!
@@jsullivan2112 Tapping = Not a picking technique, only resonance played with no guitar pick -> Shredding = to cut the notes with a very advanced alternate picking tecnique. Are u even a guitarist rofl, i'll never understand that people who discuss without fucking idea lmao
I think I’m not alone in saying there has never been another live guitar duo that did it better and more precisely than Gilbert and Bouillet. To this day still amazes me to hear. I’m glad Racer X happened.
"There he is again...That kid can get up..." Paul, although you mildly joke about that - it's one of the truer statements in life. I just love your videos!
This man epitomizes an amazingly talented and humble human-being. Probably one of the best guitar players in human history and such a genuine and down to earth guy. Rock On Paul...
Paul is the best. Went to his clinic here in Brisbane Australia a few years back, he had handouts given to every person of some of his trademark licks and he signed a Racer X CD of mine. Such a cool guy and an amazing musician.
I truly appreciate that he mentions how important putting on a show is! How to go over the top and not take yourself too seriously. I have always found the crowds respond better and are less intimidated by a kick ass band that is not afraid of having fun or poking fun at themselves.
I saw you guys at the Omni back in '88 and loved the 4 high 4x12's, the neon colors, the drill, the excess. What wasn't to love about it? Self-parody was evident and you could tell everyone in the band was having a blast. Great memories. Plus, that drill is sort of a 1-string, manual Gizmotron!
I'm not a guitar player but always liked guitar driven rock or metal and Racer X was incredible when I first hear Street Lethal and then Second Heat back when they came out in the mid 80s. Very melodic. The whole band had great musicianship. One of the best twin guitar attacks was Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet on Second Heat.
Paul, your playing, teaching style and enjoyment of music has been a constant inspiration to me as a musician. Your new album is also completely kick-ass! Long may you reign.
Paul, i just wanted to say thank you for helping me become the guitarist that i am now! I think that you`re an amazing guitarist and one of my all time favorites as well ! So again Thank you again!
Such a cool dude. I couldn't get enough Racer X back in the day. Great songs, musicianship and keeping it fun. Bruce was actually a bigger influence for me with his bluesy feel and vibrato.
I went to G3 Cincinnati, on the first note of Scarified, there's Bruce, then that drum beat. I Lost IT! I screamed like never before, and came out of my seat (I think Paul even gave me a weird look for a sec) I was completely alone with cheering but I didn't care. Highlight of every concert I've ever seen. They did not drop a single note after all those years. Much love Racer X
I talked to the most well-known guitar tech in Taipei, Taiwan once. He told me that he got a chance to meet lots of international guitarists, and he some photos with them on his wall. I saw Vinnie Moore, and few others. He tech'd for Satriani and other big names. I asked him what guitarists, did he feel stands out from all the others? He said, Paul Gilbert! Didn't pause a second! haha He then went on to tell me how Paul could pick up any guitar and play it ferociously and he knew any song people called out.
Paul, you were famous way beyond LA, I was living in a little town in Italy in the middle of nowhere and was almost 17 and started playing guitar, I knew some rich kids who had all the records (I didn't have money to buy them) and they spoke about you and Racer X, here's the translation of what they said about you: '' Paul Gilbert has two SQUARE balls, the way he plays guitar, listen to this!'. We said 'square balls' to indicate someone who had some high degree of skill in any field, or indicate some kind of geniuses. 🤘
I was at G.I.T in the same class as Paul Gilbert. I remember at graduation, he and his GIT band played in their bath robes. Funny prank. they played "Schools out for Summer" by Alice Cooper. They did a great Job. I will say, as great as a guitar player as Paul was, the #1 guitar player graduating was a red-headed Southern boy named, "Jimmy". I cannot remember his last name, but Jimmy is still one of the top 3 guitar player/writers that I have aver heard. Paul is great, but he always lacked "soul". You cannot buy that. Wherever you are Jimmy, my the good Lord be with you!
wtf man PG-13 was actually honored that EVH did that...even did tribute to him. besides look at form his point of view one of the all time greats when ur already an all time great but before u were famous had one of ur cheat cheatz used by the most famous cat of your genre!
I remember seeing a pullout of Paul & Bruce in one of the guitar magazines & thinking these guys must be amazing. Had the oink & green Florence’s guitars & I thought anyone with a guitar like that had to be badass. And they were. It said they were from Racer-X. Had never heard of them & I searched for years to find a record of there’s.
I've heard that before that Paul would wake up real early and practice like a maniac and I always regarded that as a myth I wanted to believe, brought a smile to my face when I heard it was true
Considering Yngwie invented the neoclassical thing I don't think ahead of its time is the way to describe them. They were amazing but there were quite a few shrapnel artists during that time too.
I never really paid attention to Paul, now I realize I've missed out on a lot of awesome playing. He's seems like a cool guy too!!! Time to get caught up on his playing!
Yes. Paul has always impressed me from since I got the first Racer X record when it came out. He has always been really down to earth, nice and an incredible musician. Some great music for sure! His guitar videos show how well he can teach as well.
Paul Gilbert: Quirky uncle who gives you gag sweaters for your birthday. Says "Heck" when swearing is deemed appropriate. Comforts strangers on the subway. Rock and Roll guitar GOD.
Paul is probably the most talented musician who still down to earth. Paul is the fucking man!
MCSO91 and Guthrie Govan
HardRock73 stole the words right out of my mouth
Guthrie govan is not a god. Im kinda sick people keep talking about him. He doesnt give a significant contribution to guitar world. No new technic , no shit!
Holy truth !!!!
Seems like a good person!! DIME IS the greatest as a person and his talent and originality are unmatched!
I think,I'm not alone when I say,we need a new Racer X album and tour.
yeah but with Bruce Bouillet....
+265308 bruce is amazing
Definitely would love to have the band put out something new!
Rush parish from steel panther used to play with racer x
You are not alone
I have seen over 20 racer x shows in their glory days. They were the best!
Yes the Country Club shows killed my ears!
well, literally? I mean, did you get a problem?
Raceyro, you are my hero
To the Yngwie generation this band was crack.
Did you ever see Cacophony as well? How did they compare?
"My upside down playing is a little rusty"
*completely shreds*
Lol
Tapping is shredding now, fantastic

Gilbert's upside down tapping was rusty...
LOL! 🤣🎸🤟
@@Unknown-Guitarist You must be fun at parties.
A supergroup of people nobody had ever heard of before.
"That kid can get up!"
You could say that he had 'morning glory'.
I laughed out loud when he said that!
hahaha for real. hit me pretty good when he said that x'D
Right, fell off the toilet. When he said that.
That's what she said! Haha.
Paul making me fall in love playing guitar since 2007. Again and again
I think I’m not alone in saying there has never been another live guitar duo that did it better and more precisely than Gilbert and Bouillet. To this day still amazes me to hear. I’m glad Racer X happened.
Jason Becker and Marty Friedman came pretty close........
MAN it would be pretty awesome if they put that guitar into production!
I really like those interviews. They consist of interesting information, which you just can't get anywhere else :)
*EXACTLY*

I love how passionate Paul is about the guitar, it's absolutely inspiring!
He is so modest. What an incredible guitarist and just a good guy.
Love the Racer X stuff. Saw them a few times in the late 80's. Mad shit.
Sounds cool
Paul is the best. Went to his clinic here in Brisbane Australia a few years back, he had handouts given to every person of some of his trademark licks and he signed a Racer X CD of mine. Such a cool guy and an amazing musician.
PLEASE,PLEASE bring racer X back!!!
Kept my Marshall 50 watt in my locker is the best sentence about school ever said
I can't stop smiling while watching these videos! Thank you Paul for making these.
Paul is amazing! He said, the drill is "kinda a parody"..... he just gets it man. Such a cool dude.
I think that Paul is not only a fantastic guitar player but a nice guy as well. Thanks for your knowledge and music over the years.
Mr. Paul is a great guitarist whose greatness in guitar is dwarfed by his humility. Indeed a good example of a who a human being should be.
I saw Mr. Big back in '90-91 & watching Paul & Billy doing ' dueling ' guitar vs. Bass was epic! Epic night & gr8 memories!
I truly appreciate that he mentions how important putting on a show is! How to go over the top and not take yourself too seriously.
I have always found the crowds respond better and are less intimidated by a kick ass band that is not afraid of having fun or poking fun at themselves.
Jeff Martin's live vocals on Time Before the Sun is amazing!
Racer X was one of the best bands ever. :-)

Such a cool dude. I couldn't get enough Racer X back in the day. Great songs, musicianship and keeping it fun. Bruce was actually a bigger influence for me with his bluesy feel and vibrato.
Saw this band many times at their peak-Amazing!
Having actually seen you guys around that time, I can attest that they were amazing shows. Absolutely incredible. It was so god damn loud, too. Lol.
I went to G3 Cincinnati, on the first note of Scarified, there's Bruce, then that drum beat.

He is one of the coolest guitar guys of my glory days
PG is my favorite guitarist and probably favorite musician. I saw him once in ATL at the Tabernacle like 12 years ago.

Amazing guitar player and as far as I know, incredible human being. 10/10
Paul is so damn cool. What a fantastic musician.
Paul Gilbert é incrível....
We need this guitar for a full production !!
My favourite guitarist of all time.
This guy is awesome his stories and so humble he gives me a Marty Friedman vibe .
Randy Rhoads and Paul Gilbert are my two favorite guitarists of all-time.
My favorite era of your playing my friend. Extreme volume 1 and 2 are terrifying!! Noone could match it
down to earth with all his words... the way he makes himself seem nobody... the GREATEST PAUL GILBERT
Paul would get up at 6am to start shredding in rehearsal at 7 o'clock in the morning. This is why he's the GOAT
I just found this channel! I love listening to your stories Paul.
Remember first listening to the opening of Street Lethal back in the day - as a guitarist of similar age to PG, it was terrifying. :D
Great teacher at GIT 1990, awesome guy. Terrifying player in person
Street Lethal is easily my favourite Paul Gilbert record. It's insane
Don't give it up Paul. Get the boys back together and make that magik again.
Sounds like the dentist from Hell, OPEN WIDE! LMAO! 😂 the dude is so awesome and humble!
Gosh, such a great dude. Love ya Paul!!!!!!

I looooove Racer x so much!
I like this guy better every time I see him ! Humble cool , talented
That pink color is so striking!
"This kid can get up'' this crancked me up hahaah
cool as f'ing Cucumbers bro... love that drill, never knew you did that haha, brilliant!
Paul wanted to tear people heads off with his guitar skills....and he did it ! ....me I'm still trying after 35 years
Saw you at the Dancing Waters club in San Pedro with the Gregorian punks, it was an absolutely astounding show!
sometime around 86-87
These stories are so cool.
I remember seeing Racer X
back in they day. Seen them at a club in San Francisco, 1988 or 89.
my teacher....Definitely Racer X will always be my go to...for sheer shred..
what an amazing series, thanks!!
A TRUE TALENT FOR SURE!!! THANKS PAUL
I adore Paul Gilbert!
When Paul G laughs, everyone does with him ☺️
It is uncommon for someone who is as talented as PG that is just a totally real person.
love this guitar! I like the huge hole around the neck pickup!

Boy, you have no idea. Getting up in the morning, consistently.
I remember seeing PG with the fringed guitars in probably 87 or 88 and I always wondered how he could play with that stuff hanging down.
It's all coming back to Paul soon he will be playing like a 20year old kid again
Paul, be great to hear about your memories playing and knowing Shawn Lane! cheers
I've heard that before that Paul would wake up real early and practice like a maniac and I always regarded that as a myth I wanted to believe, brought a smile to my face when I heard it was true
I totally stole the drill thing for a talent show when I was 15! Thanks for all the inspiration.
I just need to see paul update a new video of he's playing yro by racer x and my life would be absolutely super complete.
I always thought Jeff Martin was the weakest link. Glad I got to see them in LA, man they were on top of their game!!
LOVE these vids! I hope to get you on my interview channel soon Paul!
Dude that drill sounds like a sick ass pick slide
I like how he says its coming back to me now 😂 it's like hes a time traveller from the 80s in the wrong time 😂
Racer X RULES Paul.... Thank you!
Paul is the bomb. The Drill is still cool In my humble opinion.
Racer X was too ahead of its time. You'd be hard pressed to find a band that could now cover the stuff that racex X was playing in in the 1980s...
Considering Yngwie invented the neoclassical thing I don't think ahead of its time is the way to describe them. They were amazing but there were quite a few shrapnel artists during that time too.
Dhruv Kotecha how is this in any way related to neoclassical?
Regards PG ! You should write a BOOK !
this guy rules even with pink guitar
That is my dream guitar right there☝️
Go listen to Powermad's - Plastic Town released in 1989. They must have been a fan of the Scarified riff.
