    I could almost cry. On Thanksgiving eve 1966 I picked up my 67 GTX convertible at Armory Garage in Albany,NY. Drove 2 blocks down Central Avenue and stopped and put the top down and the rear glass exploded I guess since it came out of a heated showroom. It was the first year for glass in the convertible top. It had a 4 speed w/the crappy Inland shifter. It was Turbine bronze w/white interior. It started out at $3600 and ended up at $4800 which was crazy for a Plymouth. The Hemi was $654 and the Shure Lock diff on the 9&3/4" Dana rear end was $150. Found out years later in HOT ROD magazine that it was 1 of only 17 made that year with the 4 speed. The rear was 3:54 and the auto was 3:23. I had the 150 mph speedometer maxed out at 150 one time. It was the hottest car in Troy that year. I ran against a black Mustang in Schenectady the summer of 67. It was black and in white letters on the back it said "If you can beat me, You can eat me". It was supposed to be "Cha Cha" but not really sure. And no my lead sled could not compete with her 4:56 rear from light to light.

    This car would be special in any case, but restored with all original parts in such great condition (and the $400 the owner paid for it), this may be my favorite muscle machine you have featured on My Car Story. Jim Patterson has gone a fine job keeping this car alive. A++

      I had one it look almost just like this car the color you name it but it had the 440 in it. But it wasn’t my favorite year 68 to early 70s was and try getting parts for this car you can’t find them unless it a junkyard somewhere down south I know because so 16 yr old girl hit mine after 2 weeks after getting it painted and finally restored after like 4 yrs of work as I could afford it. They had to get all the parts from a junkyard I think they made a little over 5 thousand of this year so it hard to get anything for it. Unless it changed from when I had mine like 20 yrs ago. Kids come and the rest is history many know how that works. A little over 22 23 yrs ago I sold that car for 57 hundred dollars at that time that was a lot at that time for a old muscle car. Now you get junk for that much.

    $4600 in today's money would be about $30,000. America of that era was producing stunning cars that everyday hard working people could afford.
    They style, engine and overall finish of that car is just amazing.

Those were the moments of Mopar greatness..Real metal, real engines, @.67 a gal regular..For $4 bucks, a full tank, bag of White Castles, breath mints, rubbers, and change left over..What a life..I'm 66, still here.

    The 1965-1967 Belvedere models, Satellite and GTX are a beautiful clean design. RIP Plymouth. FYI definition of belvedere: a structure (such as a cupola or a summerhouse) designed to command a view. It derives from two Italian words, bel, which means "beautiful," and vedere, which means "view." The term has been used in English since the 1570s.

    $400? That is a great car offer. Restoring a car that probably had tons of rust came out to be this very clean well cared car. The elegant, wonderful paint and chrome shines everyone's dear eyes... Wow. Interior in black... I see tons of 60s, 70s cars with the black leather interiors, Wonderful, it is. Engine sound? No problem... It's a great sound, John.

      Hi John Roberts, Thank you for sharing the details you enjoyed on this one :-) Lou

    • @jimfromcolo
      @jimfromcolo 6 лет назад +3

      John Roberts, John the car was a rust free car that been in southern Colorado since 1968. The car still had 1973 lic plates on it when I found it. The car spun a rod bearing in that year and the engine was partially pulled apart then it just sat until 1980. The car had to only been driven six years if it broke in 73, and was in relatively in good shape, all the body panels, floor and truck are original to the car. The car was not rotisserie restored, only a paint job and underside detail, the car had just a few minor dings in it. All the chrome and trim original to the car, when I restore it in 1986 nothing was available for these cars, I had to redo what I had, or find new old stock. Which the grille was the only new old stock item I put on. I rebuilt the engine, the drivetrain and suspension and drove it a couple years before I repainted it, I figured after I did I would not drive it as much anymore, especially being a silver car, it would be hard to match up the paint if something happened.

    $400 for a hemi GTX, that's a riot! I remember one of my friend's father bringing home a new 67 Belvedere 1 wagon (he lived on the same less affluent side of town as myself). Even though it was bare bones, it did have a nice 318 and torqueflite transmission...Surely put out 230CI six/powerglide Malibu to shame. I felt sorry for poor Mr. Mutter, he managed to scruff up the right rear quarter panel on some tarred up wooden parking divider the second day they owned it! I still remember watching the poor guy trying to get the tar scrapes off the fender with turpentine while Mrs. Mutter was scolding him....It's funny the things we remember as kids...

The fireman refused to open the had with their gloved hands instead they used those axe/pry bar combo tool and did way more damage than the fire. Question....... Was the tag under the hood originally affixed to the car using phillips head screws? I would think that would be easy to steal if that's the case. I LOVE the old Dodges and Plymouths. They were rolling art back in the day. Great video as usual Lou. Thanks man.

      Hi Mike Lunn, Thank you for the kind words on the video, and happy to read your comments on the car. :-) I just checked on another 1967 and see Phillips head screws on the tag on this one too, Enjoy! Lou ruclips.net/video/mQvTzQDDLTs/видео.html

    The J is in the Vin# NOT on the fender tag in 1967. The number 73 designates the Hemi Engine on the fender tag. The owner should have known this.

    There's a dealership call Bill Neal Chrysler back in the 73 when I first graduated I was trying to buy a car exactly like this one except it was black / yellow had a 440 with a TNT motor they wanted $400 down I only had $200 I had just graduated out of high school and it started working at the Federal Building for GSA at 601 East 12th Street my father went over in Kansas to a place called Cit and got 200 more dollars to put down on the car but before he gave them the $200 he told the dealer that he wanted to go and look at this car bill Neal Chrysler had a used car dealership downstairs he saw the car started it up and after he heard it he told me I couldn't have the car you talking about somebody who was hurt but he probably done a good thing because I probably would have killed my fool self in it it had electric fuel pump on it at my brother and I took it up to the Liberty Memorial and boy could that car skat
