Oh yeah, this was absolutely hysterical, fun, and a great watch, even though I wanted to smack Frank's head multiple times throughout 😂

Carol Kane (Ghost of Christmas Present) is truly a gift in this movie. I love her so much! Her whimsy, airy speech, barely constrained menace, and constant violence make her scene a standout.
All the ghosts are great in Scrooged, and each has a great take on Dicken's themes.
She's like if Glinda suddenly got sick of the Wizard's crap
YES! She was always awesome and extra, extra, extra here.
She's my favourite part of this whole movie.
Guess I'm strange, cause she's my least favourite thing about the movie.
Fun fact: the “starving” street musicians in the movie were jazz greats Miles Davis, Larry Carlton, David Sanborn, and lead by Paul Shaffer from the Tonight Show Band.
Paul Shaffer was the bandleader on Late Night with David Letterman.
I imagine that Lee Majors being the guy who saves the North Pole is one of the things that probably does’t hit as hard with the newer generations as with those of us who grew up watching The Six Million Dollar Man.
"It's Christmas Eve! It's... it's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we... we... we smile a little easier, we... w-w-we... we... we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be!"
Fun Fact: This was Bill Murray's first starring role since Ghostbusters (1984). He had been living in Paris, and had seriously considered giving up acting altogether.
Murray Family Fact: All of Bill Murray's acting brothers, John Murray, Joel Murray, and Brian Doyle-Murray appeared in this movie. John's the only one that played his on-screen brother, Joel plays one of the guests at John's party, while Brian plays Bill's on-screen father.
Historical Fact: When Frank throws water on the waiter he sees burning, he says he thought he was Richard Pryor to cover his insane behavior. This is a reference to an event in Pryor's life when he, while freebasing cocaine, accidentally set himself on fire and ran down a busy street in Los Angeles.
That'd explain why the advertising for this played up the " Bill Murray and ghosts" angle
Nobody's mentioned this yet, but the part where Frank tries to write off his boss's ghost as a hallucination from poisoned Chernobyl vodka is one of the more directly modernized parts taken from _A Christmas Carol_
In that, Scrooge tries to accuse Marley of being a mere byproduct of something in his dinner he didn't agree with: "There's more of gravy than of grave about you!"
I always love the touch in this Christmas Carol version that the dark potential future also includes the negative influence Frank had on Claire. It nicely rounds out the bleak possibility that the Scrooge analogue that doesn't change will not only go unmourned and allow innocent people to suffer, he'll end up making good people worse.
"Taxi! Can you get me to the IBC building in three minutes?"
"WHICH FLOOR?"
Best line in the film when you stop and think about it.
I'd legit love to have seen a full Christmas Carol movie with Buddy Hackett as Scrooge. He was a hugely popular old school comedian well known for his high pitched voice, who you'd probably recognize best as Scuttle in The Little Mermaid.
I remember him as a 70’s kid in the original Herbie the Lovebug movies.
@@tempsitch5632 He showed up everywhere in the60s and 70s. The Love Boat, Fantasy Island in the 70s and Petticoat Junction and Green Acres in the 60s just a couple I remember.
This one is the only modern Christmas Carol movie that I watch. Bill Murray is great. But if you haven’t seen it, the 1951 Alastair Sim version is the best. It’s like a horror movie. And it has to be in black and white. The colour version isn’t bad, but the B&W version is spookier. It freaked me out as a kid. 😂
Bobcat Goldthwait played Eliot Loudermilk. He's a comedian and an actor, mostly known for this movie, Shakes the Clown, and the Police Academy sequels.
The line about stapling the antlers onto the mouse always gets me. What an a**h**e thing to say! Kinda brilliant.
The punch Carol Lane gave Bill Murray stopped filming for a couple of days, as it cracked his jaw.
Oh NO 💀
"It's a TOASTER!" Still one of cinema's best lines.
I love how all the TV promos say "Charles Dickens's immortal classic 'Scrooge'," Like nobody there knows the actual title of the novella.
Easily the best non-traditional adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" and even better than some of the traditional ones.
It's not the holidays until I see "Bob Goulet's Old-Fashioned Cajun Christmas".
The cab driver is played by David Johanson, front man for the proto punk band, The New York Dolls. He also put out some records as "Buster Poindexter".
This, The Muppets, and Mr. Magoo are probably my favorite Christmas Carol adaptations, though it's such a good story and I've yet to truly see a sub-par one.
The Richard Pryor joke is this movie gets me every time 🤣🤣
Bill Murray's brother in the movie is played by his real brother John.
Don’t forget his older brother who plays his father.
I had no idea Bill had another besides Brian. Cool to know
@@Cindrbell Their youngest brother Joel is in it too. He's on the couch at the brother's party. Joel was in One Crazy Summer and Dharma and Greg. Bill Murray is from a large Irish Catholic family, 9 kids.
@@audraross3012 thx!!!!!!!
@@Cindrbell There are 9 Murray brothers and sisters and both Joel and John (whom I used to know quite well) are at the christmas dinner. And John does good impersonations of Bill and Brian.
OGB: Someone’s going to beat him up.
Me: That would be The Ghost of Christmas Present.
Carol Kane played The Ghost of Christmas Present. She is a wonderfully entertaining character actress.
Your reaction was everything I want from a reaction to this movie! Your face when they were doing the “pets watching television” bit was especially funny, trying to find the logic in that nonsense! And I’m glad to see someone else appreciates the ghost of Christmas present and her crazy violent tendencies!
(Edited for spelling)
The one who plays the cab driver used to be in a band back in the days . He also passed away . And also the actress who plays the GF , was in : Indiana Jones - Starman and other movies . Bob Goldthwait was a very close friend of Robin Williams . The director of this movie also directed the great classic " The Omen " from 1976 . The other actress who plays the flying angel is also famous . She was in : Dog Day Afternoon ( with Al Pacino ) - The tv show TAXI - The Princess Bride and many more . The actor who plays the father in the past was in movies like : Vacation - Christmas Vacation - Caddy Shack & other comedies .
I love this movie so damn much. You can replace every character except Bill Murray's with a Looney Tune and it would be the same movie.
As a moody, angry and lonely teenager, with parents that hated and yelled at each other, I once watched this movie on a VERY cold December night wrapped up in multiple comforters in bed. My band had broken up earlier that year due to a sudden random encounter with my best friend where I felt very hurt, and I had no other friends. I was 18 and high school had ended, and that winter I dropped out of community collage because I absolutely hated it, and around this time I just decided to stop going, went to watch The Two Towers at a theater for the first time instead. Social interaction with anyone my age had stopped for months. It felt like life was just misery and everyone misunderstood me. Made me afraid to even try to talk to my parents out of fear of being greeted with anger taken out on me.
That night I watched this movie for the second time, after seeing it when I was a kid when I thought the ending was too corny and cheesy and dumb, I was too immature to understand the sense of LOVE your fellow man that scene was trying to convey, but this time.... I pretty much had what felt like a religious experience, crying my eyes out due to the singing and audience interactive "put a little love in your heart" ending. I desperately wanted love and to be happy and desperately wanted to be better than I had been after feeling hated by those around me, wanted to break though to them with positivity and stop being angry at them. It took me a VERY long time to succeed at that, so I don't remember the results as well as I remember just that night.
Bobcat Goldthwaite is actually kind of a genius to play this part as his persona he created(you know, "that voice"). So he's kind of playing two roles at the same time; very meta.
Donner and Murray clashed so hard on this flick, both control freaks. Whatever, I love this movie, thanks for doing it. I love that you don't judge tropes and insults and just get lost in the moment. Great reaction as always, thank you.
I love this movie so much. Along with It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and A Christmas Story, it’s my favorite Christmas movie. Bill Murray is perfection, but from Alfre Woodard to Carol Kane, the whole cast is stellar. Watch it every holiday season, every year since 1989; when at 13, my Dad and I rented it from Video Scene during the holiday season, ordered pizza, popped it in the VHS, and laughed the entire time, and sang the ending. He died 2 years ago this December 20th. Miss him constantly, and tear up a bit still especially near the anniversary and just writing this. But I can’t help but feel close to him every time I watch it, and I like to imagine he’s looking down on me even now, laughing along like always, reminding me, to put a little love in my heart. Love you Dad. ♥️
This is legitimately my favorite holiday season movie, closely followed up by Albert Finney's " Scrooge" (the musical I believe that was the inspiration for the show IBC was putting on in the film) and White Christmas. Carol Kane's Ghost of Christmas Present is legit my favorite segment of the film.
It is admittedly a bit harder to imagine Frank Cross having this radical character shift at middle age compared to Ebenezer Scrooge, who was presumably in his later years and actually closer to dying of natural causes, thusly more likely to be turned around. The Ghost of Christmas future segments are where I feel the movie kind of drops the ball in really believably putting the fear of not changing into Frank.
I was going to go into more detail about the differences in the two stories...but honestly, I think you should watch the Albert Finney musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol, "Scoorge" for yourself to see how much more effective the ghosts played with the titular characters emotions than was handled in "Scrooged".
Ultimately, that weakness in the narrative of the film doesn't much change how much I love this film, though. A "modern" classic, at least compared to stuff like "White Christmas" that came out in 1954 and "Scrooge" which came out in 1970.
The 1971 Oscar-winning animated _A Christmas Carol_ will always be my favorite, just because the moment Marley unties his bandage traumatized me as a child. It twiddles with the narrative a little to fit its 25 minute runtime, but is otherwise an incredible adaptation, with Alastair Sim reprising his role as Scrooge from the 1951 live-action version. (It's on RUclips!)
You’re hysterical! Your “he’s a walking red flag” line was epic!
This is easily my favorite Christmas Movie and Carol Kane is one of my favorite actresses that's her real voice and just that voice makes everything she does in this movie funnier! 💚❤️💚❤️
This is my all time favourite Christmas movie🎄 there are so many pop culture references in it that are irrelevant these days but I’m so glad it still hits the spot😜 the ghost of christmas present is my all time fave Christmas character, she still makes me laugh just as much as an adult as when I was a kid😊
Gotta admit. A Christmas Carol story being promoted by lawyers seems. Poetic.
It's damn near impossible to steal a movie from Bill Murray, but Carol Kane does it. Her delightful sadistic viciousness is beyond hysterical! The entire cast is perfect as are the screenplay and Richard Donner's direction. It seems strange to say, but this is truly one of the best versions of "A Christmas Carol". Oh, and Bobcat Goldthwaite was always awesome.
Bob is my crush. Like him since his handsomeness in Police Academy.
I'm glad you enjoyed "Scrooged".
I enjoyed watching you. ( Oh, that's a bit creepy I suppose) "Scrooged" is one of my holiday favorites as is every version of "A Christmas Carol"!
Thank you for a delightful video.....
The guy who played Preston Rhinelander was the legendary Robert Mitchum, I recommend for you to watch the 1955 film noir THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER it's considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made, but one of the most disturbing thillers ever!
The reaction's even better because Sam is *not* familiar with the original! Hahahaha
Ghost of Christmas past is played by David Johansen, singer and member of rock group New York Dolls.
The "guy with the voice" is Bobcat Goldthwait, who originally found fame because of that voice. His breakout role was in the Police Academy movies (first appearing in Police Academy 2). He starred in a few movies after that, but most of his roles have been guest star roles in both movies and TV. He is also a fairly well known Director.
Ghost of Christmas Present, Carol Kane, was Mad Max's wife in Princess Bride, and grandma in Addams Family Values
Don't know if its been mentioned but... Two of Bill Murray's brothers are in the film. They play his dad and his brother James.
And Carol Kane tore Murray's lip when she yanked his face down to hers.
This is one of the three movies my family watches every year on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I love seeing people react to it. The Ghost of Christmas Present is my favorite. So violent!
They have some great versions of a Christmas carol including a British one from the 50s starring Alastair Sims, A musical version starring Albert Finney and of course the classic Muppets Christmas Carol with Michael Caine.
I love Carol Cane as the ghost of Christmas present. She's so funny.
@22:00 That’s a Nutcracker Suite ballet joke.
One of my favorite live action Christmas movies I try to watch every year along with Christmas Vacation, and A Christmas Story.
My favorite Xmas movie is Die Hard (1988), followed by, It's a Wonderful Life (1946), The Santa Clause (1994), Miracle on 34th St. (1947).
The mean father of Frank when he is a kid is Bill Murrey's older brother, and the guy who plays his brother in this is actually his REAL brother.
Happy to see that you liked the ghost of Christmas present. I love the actor playing the ghost of Christmas past, he's a real character, but Carol Kane has been my favorite in this movie for ... 34 years? Damn, I'm old!
Hope your rest of the year is great!
My favorite character is Frank's assistant Grace. Alfre Woodard at her best.
Here’s some fun facts. The actor that play Frank’s Father, is Bill Murray’s older brother. The actor that play Frank’s brother is Bill’s younger brother. And if you Watch “Fear The Walking Dead. The actor that play Brice, recently play Teddy the crazy cult leader.
Yay! First Christmas movie review! 🎄 Awesome 🙂
@31:19 He quit this job and started giving driving lessons in The Naked Gun.
There's no "I" in team... but... as Gregory House said, there's "me".
I watched this every year growing up! Great video!
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, so good.
In the original Christmas Carroll I always had issues with Tiny Tim, a sick dying kid who is just so sweet it's like he doesn't even care he's dying. And his saying, "God bless us, everyone," was also too sweet for me. But in this version making that character into a truly hurr mute kid really hit me. And then to make the "God bless us" line into an actual miracle put me away. The end of this movie for me is amazing. (For the record, as an adult, Tiny Tim does get to me. Kid gonna die... Horrible.)
This a crazy funny spin on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
The tagline reads: "This time, it's 3 Ghost against one." This was a subtle reference to GHOSTBUSTERS.
Ah the classic Bill Murray plays Bill Murray movie.
There have been SO many adaptations of Charles Dickens's 'A Christmas Carol'. Some great, some good, & some, not so much.
My 2 personal favorites are 1951 'Scrooge' (aka A Christmas Carol) with Alastair Sim. & The Muppets Christmas Carol 1992 with Michael Caine.
It's not Christmas without watching both versions.
Bill Murray and Bobcat Goldthwait in the same movie? Yes please. Too bad they never appeared in more movies together. If you want to see a truly twisted movie with Goldthwait in it, try Shakes the Clown. And Carol Kane was so wonderful both in this movie and in the Princess Bride. I have to see what else she's been in (besides Taxi)
Frank Cross' speech at the end was ad-libbed. The director told Murray to just come up with something on the spot.
_Shakes the Clown_ also has the guy who voiced Spongebob as the villain, and its amazing he's never played the Joker in anything.
@@christopherwall2121 And I guarantee, after seeing Florence Henderson in that, you'll never see The Brady Bunch the same way ever again.
Its officially not December until Frank gets hit with a toaster.
Funniest part hands down
YES! Bill Murray is my favorite Scrooge!
My holiday movie recommendation would have to be Mixed Nuts. It's got Steve Martin, Adam Sandler, and best of all; Liev Schreiber in drag! :)
This movie is just fun. I recently heard that Bill Murray hates it (which is a shame, if not that surprising), but it's still a great watch round this time of year 😄
Fun fact, two character were played by bill Murray's brothers. Frank's brother James was played by Bill's brother John, and their father (as seen in flashback) was played by Brian Doyle Murray, who was also in Groundhog Day as the guy who reads the proclamation.
Brian also played Griswold's boss in Christmas Vacation :)
Brian Doyle-Murray has been in many of Bill's movies. John also appeared in Ghostbusters 2.
And Joel Murray is John’s dinner guest in that scene.
@@asterix7842 Brian also provided the voice for the mayor in the 2009 Ghostbusters video game. Basically, we could be here all day listing all the different movies etc in which the Brothers Murray appeared together.
This is another one of my Christmas favorites!!!. Love your sweater.
Not my favorite Murray movie, but a pretty good one. Favorite besides both Ghostbusters movies of course, are actually "Lost in Translation"
My favorite "Christmas Carol" movie is the amazing animated one from 2007..with Jim Carrey as Scrooge. Still holds up.
In order for a character to be equivalent to the Scrooge in the original story, they have to be genuinely nasty. The thing is, Ebenezer Scrooge wasn't in a romcom. When you transplant that character into a romcom, you perhaps get this weird situation where the nastiness feels too much even though the character is 'correct'.
That's a good word for him; nasty.
@@OGBReacts well to be fair Scrooged wasn't a romcom it falls in line with a black comedy throwing everything at us but the kitchen sink, well maybe the kitchen sink too, I must have ducked just in time.
There's actually a lot of RUclips content on here specifically for cats and dogs so they weren't wrong
This is my favorite Xmas movie of all time!
Omg... Bobcat!!!! Aww. 💞
When he slipped and fell down that was an actual nonscripted accident!
One Of Richard Donner's (RIP) Masterpieces Ever Made, Cool Reaction As Always Sam, Take Care & Have A Great Weekend & Happy Holidays Sweetie 🥰
Great Christmas movie pic!
This is almost as good as Bad Santa
If you want to see a solid serious version of A Christmas Carroll, watch the Patrick Stewart version. Amazing. And I'm sure someone will have you watch the Muppet version, also good. :)
My favorite Christmas movie! And I love your reactions and channel. Keep up the good work! 💙
🤩 thank you so much for reacting to my second favorite Christmas movie I very much needed this.
That’s Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Pat Metheney and Paul Shaffer
One of my favorite christmas movies.
That voice
Hercules Panic
Pain. Matt Frewer was Panic.
You say that Wendie Malick's voice sounds familiar. I'm guessing you recognize it as Eda in The Owl House.
Future Caire looked like Alexis Carrington (Joan Collins) from "Dynasty"
Carol Kane tore the inside of Murray's lower lip when she was holding it forcefully. He needed stitches.
Alfred!!!! Damn girl. 🌺
@26:10 It’s under your facecam, but Bill Murray slams Alfre Woodards jaw when he reacts.
It's very surprising to find someone who hasn't seen one of the tons of film adaptations of "A Christmas Carol". How you managed to avoid all of them is amazing!!!
Scrooge , the main character of the story , is culturally become the definition of avarice, selfishness and mean spiritedness . Bill Murray's portrayal is not that far from the spirit of the original.
For context, it might be a good idea to look up what is generally considered to be the best adaption of them all on most top ten lists, the 1951 adaptation ,named same as the book " A Christmas Carol". For a bit of variety, The Muppets' Christmas Carol and this year, there are no less than three new adaptations, one of which stars Ryan Reynolds and Will Farrell, called Spirited ,which seem to be taking a new twist to the story, suggesting the ghosts have been haunting more than just old Ebenezer Scrooge.
programing for pets. Well then you wouldn't want to check out the many vids around of cats reacting to Stray... or apps for pets. Great movie, I watch it every year!
Not sure how familiar you are with him, but Eliot is played by Bobcat Goldthwait, an extremely absurdist comedian who ALWAYS used that bizarre croaky voice, which his acting roles like this never even tried to explain. And for me at least, this movie is the only time he's ever been remotely funny.
Police Academy 2?
Love your Christmas sweater :)
I hope you saw the very end where he broke the 4th wall! 😉
I did! It was great
LOVE the xmas outfit! Adorable!!
& congrats on the sponsor!!
The bitch hit me with toaster, I love a girl with spirit. One of my favorite lines. Carol Kane just steals this movie. Also wanted to actually watch the movie the night the reindeer die. when I was young.
This is a very fitting time to release this. The fake Christmas action movie in this basically came out this year. David Harbor is playing the Santa Claus in it.
I can't stand to watch anything to do with "A Christmas Carol" because back then so many tv shows did a version of it. I'd be excited about an episode until I realized it was going to be "A Christmas Carol" rendition. The only two I ever liked was this movie and the take of it on the "Rosanne" tv show, when they did this for Halloween, not Christmas.
There’s DogTV now 6:13
The guy that plays his brother is his actual.younger brother in real life and the guy that plays his dad the butcher is bill's older brother in real life
Holy crap - M & M has even invaded the internet. I see the billboards every day and have two friends that work there. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!!!!! P.S. Great reaction as ususal.
Great film. One of the best Scrooge type films. I recommend The man who invented Christmas. Its a film that shows the genesis of a Christmas carol.
Have you done something with your hair? I kinda like it. 'Nother movie of Bill being Bill. Love the cast in this thing. Carol Kane is the best. Buster Poindexter, 'scuse me, David Johansen. Robert Mitchum, Buddy Hackett, and I guess Karen Allen. I thought she could have been better. Not my favorite of the Christmas carols. I probably like Alastair Sim the most. There are enough versions of this hat you could watch a different one every day in several Decembers. The Fonz, Patton, Capt Picard, Thurston howell iii, mickey mouse, bugs bunny, Kermit, Flintstones, Jim Carrey doing all the parts, musicals, whatever you need. I've only seen about two dozen but egads there's so frickin many of these. Lots of people like this one most. Check out some others before you decide. Clear as mud. Ho-Ho-Ho or humbug. Happy holidays.
