Compared to other Christmas movies, this is still one of the best that captures the magic of being a kid: Christmas being the best time of year, getting in trouble, family weirdness, daydreams & disappointments... and yeah, the pursuit of THE ONE gift that would make your year. I just love how simple it is, and there's a little something anyone can relate to in it.
I watch this movie three times within 24 hours for my Christmas Festivites 1. The First Time It Airs on TBS on Christmas Eve at 8pm 2. Once on Christmas morning when I am with my family. 3. The last time it airs on TBS at 6pm on Christmas Day.
One amusing bit of subtext I only picked up on in the last few years is that the other kids probably have the impression that Ralphie has a crush on Ms. Shields, with the way he repeatedly zones out at her desk, plus the giant fruit basket. And it's definitely to the best that the movie never actually spells this out, as any deliberate joke probably couldn't match what's in your head about it.
When Ralphie said the Guillotine, it was still in use in the 1940's when the movie took place-France didn't stop using it as execution until the 1970's! Yep, I was alive when the guillotine was still an execution option!
The true magic of this movie is that Jean Shepard, whose stories of his own childhood it's based on (that's actually him as the voice of adult Ralphie, plus the guy who tells the kids to get to the back of the Santa line) was able to tap into the mindset of a little kid like no other writer ever has. And even though it's set in the early '40s, what I guess you could call the timbre of childhood never really changes, so anyone can watch this movie and recognize how they had exactly these kinds of thoughts, especially regarding that one big thing you wanted for Christmas or your birthday even if it was nothing like a BB gun.
In the book, the story begins with an adult Ralph eating in a New York automat. One of the people at the table is a hippie protesting against giving children "militaristic" toys. (Like G.I. Joe and BB guns). Ralph thinks it's silly and that starts Ralph's flashback to the Red Ryder and his favorite Christmas ever.
At almost 49 years old, and having watched commercials for Palmolive dish soap all of my life, I’ve never until this day realized it was “palm-olive” until you said it. It’s like realizing that Arby’s is actually supposed to be “R-B’s” - as in Roast Beef.
Because of this movie, I've had an annual Christmas Season Chinese meal at a good restaurant. What started off as a lark has turned into a tradition. One of my favorite lines -- and it's a throwaway -- was in Ralphie's blind fantasy when you hear the old man say to his wife, "I told you not to use Lifebuoy."
it's tradition in my family to have this movie on repeat playing in the background during the holidays. Most of the time we arent even watching, it's just playing in the background and it's such a good vibe I love it
My favourite Christmas movie and back when PG comedies were actually funny and not just an electronic babysitter. My favourite scene is still when Ralphie helps The Old Man change the tire. For me, this is the second Christmas where I'm not having the usual family Christmas dinner at my uncle and aunt's. Too many people have passed on in far less than ideal ways and my mom is in palliative care. Christmas is just weird now. But this movie brings me back (even though I was that age in the 80s and 90s, not the 40s). But it's almost like those experiences were all for nothing.
That’s Darrin McGavin, great character actor. He had a one season tv series called “Kolchak”, where he played an investigative reporter who discovers supernatural occurrences and beings, a horror-comedy.
Holiday tradtion: My friend who is from Italy goes back every year to see his family. Before he leaves, we have an annual dinner where we make food from the 1600's through 1800's, drink a lot of wine, mead and scotch, and watch A Christmas Carol from 1984 with George C Scott. This happens again tomorrow with Roast Goose as the main dish.
In 1983 I sat behind Zach Ward in grade 9 homeroom at Northern Secondary School in Toronto,Canada.I had just moved there from Los Amgeles,Ca,where he had done some acting prior (I think his mom was also in film)so we had that in common and became friends of sorts, even visiting with him at his home on one occasion.i did n`t realize he was in this movie until many years later when it was picked up for syndication and became the holiday classic that it is today having had only minor success at the boxoffice. He still gets parts in tv and film and looks the same as he did when we were young, except the headgear. He is actually a really down to Earth guy and nothing like his role as Skut Farkas,in fact quite the opposite.
STILL a fave Christmas movie for me, no matter how often I see it. I just admire the writing SO much! This movie was a sleeper when it was first released, no one knew a damn thing about it. But once it started being shown on TV, it quickly became a hit ...and a merchandising GOLDMINE, lol! :D
The Chinese restaurant was one of the many dead-on details. This was 1940, then and for long after, the only restaurant open in an average Midwestern city on Christmas day would be Chinese.
Christmas used to be a really big deal when I was a kid, but it's pretty low key now. Just my parents and brother. We put up a few decoration and a little artificial Christmas tree. Simple. For me, there are a few movies I HAVE TO watch or it doesn't feel like Christmas. Several versions of 'A Christmas Carol' The 1951 with Alastair Sim is, in my opinion, the best version. 'The Muppets Christmas Carol' 1992 is a close second. But they cut the song "When Love Is Gone" from the original ver. because they thought it 'would not appeal to young viewers'. Now that scene makes no sense. It is on RUclips. Thankfully they found and restored the original footage so we will finally get the full ver. soon. 'White Christmas' 1954. ' Miracle on 34th Street' 1947. 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' 1993, works for Christmas and Halloween.
I can watch this movie every year. Several times every year. It does bring back lots of kid memories (from the 70's) for me. Wanting that ONE TOY. Getting your pic taken with Santa at the mall. I came from a big family so we didnt have a big turkey dinner like Thanksgiving. We had 25 ppl to feed with aunts and uncles and cousins. Hope you have a merry christmas.
This is a classic. If you wanted to know something interesting about this movie. The kid that plays Ralphie grew up and was the producer for the first Ironman movie. He also shows up in the movie as the bald scientist that gets yelled at by Obadiah Stane. Then later reprised that character in Spider-Man Far From Home as the main scientist that helps Mysterio with the illusions.
Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) said the prop man gave him actual chewing tobacco in the scene when he's the sheriff. Later it was changed to raisins, who would give chewing tobacco to a kid? Some neighbor kids gave some to me at age 11, and let me tell you, it's not fun. I was sick for many hours afterwards.
A Christmas Story is set in the time when my grandparents were becoming parents, and it reminds me of our old Christmas holidays when all the grandparents and great-aunts and -uncles, and even a couple of the great-grandparents were still alive, and we all got together. The older folks loved this movie because it was accurate to their life experiences. For instance, my grandpa almost passed out from laughing at the scene where the mom dresses up little Randy in his snowsuit for school because he said it was just how his sister used to dress up her boys, which was a huge joke in the family at the time. Those older generations are mostly gone now, but at least one cable channel will be running this movie on a 24-hour loop on Christmas Eve and/or Day, so we keep it running in the background, for the nostalgia. We also make sure on Christmas Eve to watch the 1951 movie of A Christmas Carol, with Alistair Sims as Scrooge, because it's the most emotionally gut-punching version. We put presents under the tree on Christmas Eve and open them on Christmas Day, so they can soak up the holiday magic overnight. And we eat - cookies, fruitcake, and a big ol' dinner with a roast and lots of leftovers so we don't have to cook again until the new year. ;) Happy holidays!
Just watching it with you right now, I'm amazed at how good that kid (Peter Billingsly) was. That scene where his mother grabs him while he's beating up the bully, amazing acting!
He never became a big name, but still occasionally pops up, like in Iron Man where he get screamed at that "Tony Stark was able to build this IN A CAVE, WITH A BUNCH OF SCRAPS!"
Merry Christmas! 🎅 🎄 Author Jean Shepherd, the guy who wrote "In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash" book, is not only the narrator, but the irate man waiting in the Santa line at the department store. The woman standing behind him is his wife, Leigh Brown. Fun Fact: In 2005 the original home used for the exterior shots of the family home was put up for auction on eBay, and avid fan of the movie Brian Jones purchased it directly from the seller for $150,000. Jones then spent the following year restoring the home to the way it looked on screen. The exterior was completely restored and the interior was renovated to match the interior of the home shown in the movie (parts of the interior were actually filmed in a Toronto studio). On November 25, 2006, the home finally opened its doors as a tourist attraction. Jones spent close to $500,000 in preparation for this grand opening. In addition, he also purchased a house across the street and converted it to a gift shop and museum dedicated to the film and the house.
Zack Ward, the kid who played Scut Farkus, went on to a decent career himself, been in everything from Disney Channel sitcoms to _Almost Famous_ to regular appearances in Uwe Boll's oeuvre.
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie! This is the Christmas movie of my generation. I'm a few years younger than Ralphie. My parents love this movie too since they grew up in the Midwest in the 40s and say this movie is very accurate for that time period.
My mom thinks the mom’s hair in this is inaccurate for this time period. It should be more coiffed like the teacher’s. Although I guess it gives her that more frazzled look.
I took my girlfriend in 9th Grade to see this movie in a packed theater when it came out. What a great movie choice on my part. Such a big hit that Holiday Season. Never thought it would become a staple for generations.
Hi Sam, here are some more christmas movie recommendations. I don't know which ones you've already seen, but I'm sure you will enjoy these as well ... Christmas with the Kranks (2004) Mixed Nuts (1994) Deck the Halls (2006) Jingle All The Way (1996) Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) The Snowman (1982) Gremlins (1984) Scrooged (1988) Die Hard (1988) + Die Hard 2 (1990) Trading Places (1983) Bad Santa (2003) Krampus (2015) Happy holidays!
Jean Shepherd, the man that wrote this based on his book In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, had a radio show on WOR for around 30 years. He told segments of these stories you see in the movie every Christmas.
In the past few years we got a pretty fun Christmas tradition going in my household. Step 1) SLEEP IN. Since we have no more “little kids” in the house we all enjoy good sleep in Step 2) go to my Aunt’s house for “Brunch” Steps 3-5 can be switched around but we still do them by the end of the day. Step 3) Go see a movie (depending on the showtime it could be step 4 or 5) though in 2020 we stayed in and streamed on my Uncle’s “Big ass TV” Step 4) Open Gifts Step 5) Christmas dinner back at my Aunt’s And we also have a pretty simple yet fun New Years tradition to.
@@OGBReacts I got another one a “prank” I do when giving gifts. Especially funny if the people I’m giving this to are “picky” and like everything “even and organized”. When giving gift cards people always get them to the whole dollar (5, 10, 15, etc). So what I do is split what I’m giving them among multiple gift cards. So say I’m giving my sister $30. One card will have $17.83 and another will have $12.17. Even though it’s all to the same “store” it drives them and the cashiers crazy. 🤣🤣🤣
"Three blocks away, Schwartz was getting his." Ralphie bears false witness against his friend, just to get the bar of soap out of his mouth for a minute. What a great kid!
The actor who played Ralphie has gone on to become a successful movie producer and director, he was an executive producer on the movie Iron Man and he directed the movie couples retreat and has produced a bunch of other movies. He also made a cameo in the movie Elf, he is the elf with the red outfit with six white puffs on his jackets and has glasses.
I dunno if this soda brand still exists (it did when I was a child, but that was 30 years ago and I haven’t seen it since I was like 4-6) but it was called Nehi (pronounced knee-high). The leg lamp was an advertisement for Nehi soda.
The first time I saw this was in 1985. I've watched it more times than I can remember, since then. If I don't see you before, Have a Merry Christmas, Sam!!! And yes, we did get our mouths washed out with soap after cursing, back when I was growing up. Happened to me twice, once wasn't enough for me to learn my lesson. But luckily the second time, my mom felt bad because we had "Lava soap with pumice" and she spared me.
Merry almost Christmas! I missed out on the whole mom-washing-my-mouth-with-soap; I’m the youngest child so she tried to do that with my sister, and immediately felt terrible 🤣 so I didn’t get that! Thankfully
My Christmas tradition is to watch A Christmas Story, Home Alone 1 and 2, Mickey's Christmas carol when we put up the tree and again when we make Christmas cookies. When I wrap presents I watch Miracle on 34th street, it's a wonderful life and a Christmas carol with George C. Scott cuz that was my mom's favorite but sometimes I'll watch the Aleister Sims version. The kids don't really care for black and white movies lol. I think the Chinese restaurant was the only place that was open on Christmas day , that's why they had to go there when the turkey was ruined. We have to keep in mind this is set in the 1940s'. When businesses actually cared about holidays off with families and have enough time to travel and relax.
I celebrate winter solstice and my tradition is watching It's a Wonderful Life and telescope watching all the cool celestial events in December, happy holidays to you and yours
Fun fact: The director of this movie, Bob Clark, also directed Black Christmas (1974) which was one of the first "slasher" horror movies, and Porky's (1981) which started the 1980's teen sex comedy trend. Not what you'd expect based on this film. Holiday tradition: In my family, on Christmas Eve we do the Sette Pesci (Seven Fishes), an Italian tradition of eating seven different kinds of seafood at the Christmas Eve meal. (We rarely make it to seven different kinds, it still "counts" as long as it's an odd number of species e.g. shrimp and crab cake appetizer plus linguine in clam sauce.) Afterwards we eat Christmas cookies and drink egg nog before heading to bed.
Kailefipne, my family used to do the traditional Christmas Eve dinner as well until the passing of our parents in 2019 and 2021. Christmas day was kind of a let down after going all out Christmas Eve. It started off with cooking, then mass at 5pm, then dinner, dessert and presents. Our usual meal consisted of angel hair pasta with anchovy sauce (although your clam sauce is more my liking), breaded and fried shrimp, squid, smelts and cod, cod salad and conch salad, stuffed squid, and non-fish for the non-adventurous niece and nephews. Christmas Day was always Christmas cookies and coffee and lunch and dinner were leftovers from the night before; all the while TNT rerunning A Christmas Story on the television in the background. It's a great tradition. I miss it greatly.
Another movie that features Ralphie and his family is "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss." The family goes on their annual vacation to the mountains. Not as funny, but it has its moments, too.
Peter Billingsley, the kid who played Ralphie, grew up to be a movie producer and still acts in small roles. He was in Elf, Iron Man, and Spiderman: Far from Home.
Another great reaction!! Saw this in the theater with my family when I was 7. We had seen Trading Places and National Lampoon’s Vacation earlier in the summer and when I found out we were going to a kid’s movie instead of an R rated one, I was pissed off in the car the whole time. 10 minutes into this movie, my brain did a 180 and loved every minute of it. So great! Love all your reactions so much!
I remember there was an episode of Rescue 911 where a kid got his tongue stuck on some item in the freezer (long story). His little sister managed to call 911, and they freed him by pouring hot water on the area.
No real Christmas traditions since its just me and my dog now. Although I got my dog as a puppy in December and I tell her she's my Christmas present every year. When I was a kid though we had some great tradtions. We had an artificial tree but I loved that tree. It looked like an actual tree it wasn't some weird color like pink or fuchsia, it was green and looked like a perfect Christmas tree. Every year we got a few more ornaments for it until eventually it was just stacked. There was a switch at the base of the tree, you clicked it once lit up, you clicked it again it began to rotate, you clicked it again and it started playing Jingle Bells. Every Christmas Eve I was allowed to open 1 present. On Christmas morning I wasn't allowed to open my presents until my parents got up and I wasn't allowed to wake them up. My dad worked nights and he was used to not getting up until noon or later. My parents weren't heartless though...they told me I was allowed to open and play with the toys in my stocking as soon as I got up, and I had a HUGE stocking. One of my favorite Christmases I remember was when I got up and dumped out my stocking and I had every mini Transformer out that year, plus some Go-Bots and other little transforming toys. I was happy playing with them all morning. My grandmother was up and we kept each other company and turned the TV to a channel that was just playing Christmas music. When my parents woke up and I opened the rest of my presents I ended up with just about all the Transformers. Great Christmas! My dad had a tradition the Christmas lights on the house. He always put them up on December 1st and wouldn't turn them out until January 31st. We were always the last ones in the neighborhood to turn out lights off. Best Regards and have a great holiday!!!
Another movie from my childhood. Ya see Bo, my savage ass is 39 years old. I was born in 82. And to this day the duck head chop scene still gets me near wetting myself I laugh so damn hard.
Back in the day, Chinese restaurants were some of the only restaurants open on Christmas. My friend's Jewish family’s tradition was going to a Chinese buffet on Christmas lol.
Every year since I was in Grade 1, I used to make Christmas chocolates that I melt in the microwave, pour them into plastic candy molds and chill them until they’re hard and give them to my friends and teachers. Now these days, I give them to my friends, bosses, coworkers, family and extended family members like my aunts, uncles, older cousins and younger cousins. I’ve been making chocolate candy molds that for 26 years and it’s been a tradition for me to make them. Now I’m trying to experiment with other different Christmas baked goodies and desserts to add to my chocolates. I get all my recipes from Pinterest now these days and lots of the recipes I found I actually really like and have made lots of times. I even found a recipe for grinch cookies which are tasty.
We don't do the "traditional" Christmas movies in my family. But at some point on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, me and my dad watch at least two of our three traditional Christmas movies (though some people don't consider two of them to be Christmas Movies): Die Hard, Gremlins, and Scrooged.
Oh no I’m the youngest of 2 (older brother and sister) so I did get beat up 🤣 but my comment was more towards how I didn’t understand WHY they were doing that haha
My family in regards to Christmas trees....our mother puts hers up on Thanksgiving that's what we do after we eat...then the siblings put theirs up the next week.
If you ever get your tongue stuck to metal surfaces in cold temps, cup your hands on either side like your telling a secret and warm the area up with your breath. bare skin can get stuck, not just the tongue. main thing is to not panic cuz thats when you rip off flesh
When I was young this movie was on tv all the time. I've never actually watched it all the way through, but to this day I've craved Chinese food on Christmas. Maybe next year I'll just get some the night before and reheat it for Christmas dinner lmao.
Loved this movie the first 5 times I saw it during my childhood and teens, now it's on so much during Christmas it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. But your reaction was awesome.
My wife and I will give our kids a small gift of either blanket, stuffed animals or a robe with new pj’s on Christmas Eve. Then we’ll watch a movie together with all the snacks we can eat. Then it’s off to bed to wake up early and do presents. From about 3 pm Christmas Eve until 3 pm Christmas Day is just us. After that we’ll go to my parents or my wife’s parents to do a meal with them. That’s our tradition every year. Edit: spelling
Hmmm, traditions: Well, every year during the holidays I'm told by an in-law I'm cutting a vegetable too thick or thin.....but guess that's more of a Christmas Vacation-like theme...... You're the best! Thanks for the content!
My family loves this movie! Tears when he gets his gun at the end every time! We have neighbors who actually have that damn lamp in their window at Christmas.. 😂😂
Christmas is also my favourite time of year. When I was growing up, every year on Christmas Eve, we would attend Christmas Eve mass cause we’re Catholic and trying to find parking is ridiculous. After mass, we head back to my parents house to eat supper, then head over to my grandmére’s house for Christmas Eve with all my relatives on my mom’s side and have appetizers and desserts. Then Santa comes over to give us grandkids and great grand kids gifts and after Santa leaves, we open gifts from our relatives. Then we play the it gift game in which everyone is gathered in a circle with the gifts in the center and whoever card is drawn, the person gets to choose to either steal someone’s gift from the circle that they opened or pick a gift from the center. Then on Christmas morning, we opened our gifts, then go over to my grandmére’s house for homemade eggs Benedict, champagne and orange juice cause one of my older cousins was born on Christmas Day. I have a couple of older cousins born on Christmas Eve and on my Grandmère’s birthday was on Dec 22, we used to celebrate Christmas from a different country such as one year was Japan, one year was the Philippines, one year was Mexico, etc. However, since my sister started having kids 13 years ago, we don’t go to Christmas Eve mass anymore and then 4 years later, my grandmère sadly passed away in February 8 months before my niece was born so Christmas that year was very tough. So, now as a whole family, we get together on Christmas Eve with my relatives at a soccer house that we booked in advance. During Covid for the first couple of years, we couldn’t get together in person for Christmas so during the first year, I went down to Walmart, bought a Santa suit, baked some Christmas goodies and I painted wooden picture frames for each family that says “Covid Xmas 2020” and delivered it to them on Christmas Day in person in a full fricken Santa suit with my mom’s help in driving me to various locations of course since I don’t drive and I’m female that was in her late 20’s. A couple of year before my grandmère passed away, I started off painting little wooden treasure boxes for my younger cousins when they were little kids and after my grandmère passed away, I kept painting wooden crafts for my relatives as a way of carrying on my grandmère’s legacy and wanting everyone to remember her the same way I did. When I was a preteen going into my teenage years, my grandmère used to make handmade crafts. One year she sewed and made glow in the dark pj pants and socks, then one year she made hand knitted scarfs for the grandkids and great grandkids. My grandmère was the one who made Christmas so special for us and like everyone in my family and relatives, I was very close with her. Now it’s been 9 years since she passed away and this is the time of year that I truly missed her the most. RIP Grandmère and thank you for making our Christmases so memorable and special. I missed you so much and I wished you’re alive again. 😢😢😊😊
Watching your reactions and your laughter made me laugh and made me feel as if I was watching it for the first time. Bob Clarke, the director had a hard time getting it done. He had to commit to a Porky's 2 to get it done! It was filmed in Cleveland and Canada. Someone bought the original house and it was made to look like the house in the movie..
this is my favorite Christmas movie. fun fact. Melinda Dillon who plays the mother her reaction to the duck at the Chinese restaurant was real and genuine. The whole cast knew it was the director's idea to serve the duck with its head on. she didn't know. also when they chop the ducks head off also everybody in on it she didn't know. so next time you watch it you can see it's a genuine true reaction. that was fun see you next time. You're awesome ❤️💚☘️
Based on what you said at the end about this funny movie, definitely squeeze in another regular Christmas movie classic "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) in its original B&W version if possible. You'll like it a lot too. ✌😎
Look up Jean Shepard on RUclips and you can hear the radio version of this story that lead to the movie. You can also hear many of his other stories he was really good at storytelling. There is also a sequel to this movie called "My Summer Story" (1994). Although it has a completely different cast playing the characters it's still quite good and you even see Ralphie's gun that he got for that Christmas. Ralphie is played by Kieran Culkin, brother of Home Alone's Macaulay Culkin. There is also a not very good "A Christmas Story 2" movie where Ralphie is a teenager . It was a direct to video movie that isn't nearly as good.
Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year! I have to have to watch all my favorite Christmas movies and we eat lots of goodies I’m Italian (ya know Fra-Gee-Lee lol) so we have the seafood spread on Christmas Eve. Special Christmas breakfast and lots of bouncing to different family members homes lol Also the topper is the baking of my family recipe of Struffoli 😋 all 5 pounds of it so we have to give out to everyone! Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! 🎄🙏🏻😍
Ooo YES I feel! I’m also Italian with a big loud Italian family so it’s one side of the family on Christmas Eve and the other side Christmas Day, and I bake all the Christmas cookies and desserts 🥰♥️
The first time I saw this movie as a kid, when Randy said: "I can't put my arms down".... I had thought for sure he was about to say: "I have to go to the bathroom."
I watch this movie three times within 24 hours for my Christmas Festivites
1. The First Time It Airs on TBS on Christmas Eve at 8pm
I love how when the dad is actually cursing they make it sound like gibberish 😂 they did the same thing in home alone
I read that the gibberish was actually scripted!
The co-writer director was the MAJOR AWARD guy
In the book, the story begins with an adult Ralph eating in a New York automat. One of the people at the table is a hippie protesting against giving children "militaristic" toys. (Like G.I. Joe and BB guns). Ralph thinks it's silly and that starts Ralph's flashback to the Red Ryder and his favorite Christmas ever.
The guy that tells Ralphie "The line ends here it begins there", is actually the author and narrator.
OHHH that’s so fun!
@@OGBReacts And the neighbor that asks the Old Man about the lamp is the director of the film.
Most of the time we arent even watching, it's just playing in the background and it's such a good vibe I love it
Agreed! Definitely a fun background movie to have on!
Oh.... fffffffffuuuuuuudge
Except I didn't say 'fudge'
this is on my yearly holiday movie list for sure. The nostalgia it triggers is still strong even after seeing it countless times.
I love The Old Man, he’s such a grumpy bastard, but you can tell he loves his family. He lights up so much when Ralphie opens his BB gun.
Yes!! 100%
I actually love that. He’s a grumpy man but it’s obvious he loves his family!
That’s Darrin McGavin, great character actor. He had a one season tv series called “Kolchak”, where he played an investigative reporter who discovers supernatural occurrences and beings, a horror-comedy.
Holiday tradtion:
My friend who is from Italy goes back every year to see his family. Before he leaves, we have an annual dinner where we make food from the 1600's through 1800's, drink a lot of wine, mead and scotch, and watch A Christmas Carol from 1984 with George C Scott. This happens again tomorrow with Roast Goose as the main dish.
Woah! That’s so fun!! ♥️
Side note: I’m Italian and would love to go to Italy one day 😩
(I know your friend is ITALIAN Italian though so 🤣)
I'm surprised you hadn't seen this yet considering every year TBS and TNT have a 24 hour A Christmas Story marathon starting on Christmas Eve night.😀
I KNOWWW right?? That’s why I do this channel though!! Gotta catch up 🤣
@@OGBReacts There's actually was an official sequel released in 2012!
@@SuperMarioBrosIII yeah I just finished watching it I liked it especially when the old man gets his leg a lamp
@@SuperMarioBrosIII And we’re getting YET ANOTHER sequel
@@Jamie_Jewel Yes, I know with the original Ralphie all grown up with a family of his own!!
"He buried it next to the garage"
Like Father like Son: Two Drama Kings!
"You'll shoot your eye out, you'll shoot your eye out, you'll shoot your eye out"! Poor Ralphie! No matter what he does, people always tell him that.
When I wanted a BB gun as a kid my family was more worried I was gonna be careless and accidentally shoot SOMEBODY ELSE’s eye out.
Poor duck... He was smiling only a few seconds 😔 But that scream was hilarious! 😂
The actress didn't know they were going to chop off the head, and her scream was real.
"Don't bother me. I'm thinking." I used that line myself as a child. :)
The Chinese restaurant was one of the many dead-on details. This was 1940, then and for long after, the only restaurant open in an average Midwestern city on Christmas day would be Chinese.
Fun fact: the actor that plays Ralphie plays the assistant of Obadiah and Mysterio in Iron Man and Far From Home
Don't do him dirty like that - he was also EXECUTIVE PRODUCER on Iron Man
@@chrisleebowers oh really? i didn’t know that!
@@jacksonsd6 Yeah, he works with Favreau a lot, he also produced "Made" and "Zathura" and had a small part in "Elf"
Miracle on 34th Street' 1947.
Oh HELL no. Chewing tobacco just seems absolutely NASTY
Author Jean Shepherd, the guy who wrote "In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash" book, is not only the narrator, but the irate man waiting in the Santa line at the department store.
My Holiday traditions include watching this movie and Christmas Vacation and going to a performance of the Nutcracker ballet
Christmas Vacation? “Let’s burn some dust here, Eat my rubber”
Fun fact: The guy who told Ralphie where the line REALLY ends is the narrator himself, Jean Shepard

Since we have no more “little kids” in the house we all enjoy good sleep in
Step 2) go to my Aunt’s house for “Brunch”
Steps 3-5 can be switched around but we still do them by the end of the day.
Step 3) Go see a movie (depending on the showtime it could be step 4 or 5) though in 2020 we stayed in and streamed on my Uncle’s “Big ass TV”
Step 4) Open Gifts
Step 5) Christmas dinner back at my Aunt’s
And we also have a pretty simple yet fun New Years tradition to.
I love this! This sounds like a lot of fun 🥰
"Three blocks away, Schwartz was getting his."
Ralphie bears false witness against his friend, just to get the bar of soap out of his mouth for a minute.
Oh wow 🤩 thank you for that little piece of information! That’s so awesome to know
I think it can be bought online by the pack/box, or even as single bottles. But I’m not 100% sure…
@@elizabitty213 yeah, think of them as like the Spuds Mackenzie lamps you could get back in the day.
Ralphie is a true Drama King with his imagination-"It was Soap Poisoning!"
Thankfully
"Randy lay there like a slug, it was his only defense."
I loved watching your reaction to this movie. It's kind of heartbreaking when I hear people don't like this movie. It's one of my all time favorites!
This was such fun! I can’t see how someone WOULDNT enjoy it! Thanks for watching ♥️
"Oh, Fudge!"
Best non-use of the F-word in a PG!
This movie deserves a Major Award.
It's own leg lamp!
I stopped chopping down trees a long time ago...we put lights on the Christmas treadmill now, lol :)
A Christmas staple. Every Christmas day when we go to my parents, this is almost always on. Ahh yes, the famous leg lamp. It's a major award.
Christmas tradition includes watching Mixed Nuts and Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas eve
yes, I'm old enough that this was my childhood Christmas
Wow, nice! 🤩
I just heard that a sequel is in the making . With the same actor playing Ralph grown up. He returns to the same house with his wife & kids.
It's a tradition in my family we watch this on Christmas day every Christmas
Another movie from my childhood. Ya see Bo, my savage ass is 39 years old. I was born in 82. And to this day the duck head chop scene still gets me near wetting myself I laugh so damn hard.
Me and my parents saw this at the movies when it originally was released...I have never heard them laugh so much since
Two words to say about that leg lamp: “MY LEG!!!” 😂😂😂😂
I don't remember how it started, but my tradition is getting a 2ltr bottle of cranberry pop, and watching the Sam Neill miniseries, Merlin
One of the classic scenes from this is " I Triple Dog Dare You !!! " 😝
"You'll Shoot Your Eye Out" such a classic line
If I don't go anywhere for Christmas, I always make duck for Christmas dinner and it's entirely due to this movie.
It's wild that this filmmaker (Bob Clark) also brought us Porky's and Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.
And Black Christmas.
Back in the day, Chinese restaurants were some of the only restaurants open on Christmas. My friend's Jewish family’s tradition was going to a Chinese buffet on Christmas lol.
the goggles kid in line to see santa got the part because he rally was just that weird
I really enjoyed watching you experience this classic. Thanks for making these videos.
Thank YOU for watching! So glad you enjoy
My watch list EVERY YEAR
1) Christmas Story (2) The REF (3) Scrooged (4) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
"So aggressive!"
You must be an only child XD That kind of shit went on all the time when I was growing up lmao
I remember when this used to air on every channel all December. Great reaction!!!
If you ever get your tongue stuck to metal surfaces in cold temps, cup your hands on either side like your telling a secret and warm the area up with your breath. bare skin can get stuck, not just the tongue. main thing is to not panic cuz thats when you rip off flesh
This was filmed in my hometown, love Cleveland! ❤
When I was young this movie was on tv all the time. I've never actually watched it all the way through, but to this day I've craved Chinese food on Christmas. Maybe next year I'll just get some the night before and reheat it for Christmas dinner lmao.
My dad is very much like the dad in this movie. It's his favorite Christmas movie (besides maybe diehard) loved seeing you react to this!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!!
Loved this movie the first 5 times I saw it during my childhood and teens, now it's on so much during Christmas it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. But your reaction was awesome.
Thank you!!
I love that!! Sounds like a good time
Hmmm, traditions: Well, every year during the holidays I'm told by an in-law I'm cutting a vegetable too thick or thin.....but guess that's more of a Christmas Vacation-like theme......
You're the best! Thanks for the content!
Thank YOU! ♥️
The day TBS and TNT stops doing the Christmas Day marathon of this movie will be the day my childhood truly ends lol

So glad you enjoyed!!
And he was so happy with it just being a leg too lol
this is my favorite Christmas movie.
That is absolutely hilarious 🤣🤣
Didn't he also write/inspire "The Best 4th of July Ever" and "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss"?
my fathers favourite christmas movie
I love when their at the Christmas parade. That is hilarious.
this movie gives me nostalgia for a time i wasnt even alive in.
Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year! I have to have to watch all my favorite Christmas movies and we eat lots of goodies
I’m Italian (ya know Fra-Gee-Lee lol) so we have the seafood spread on Christmas Eve.
Special Christmas breakfast and lots of bouncing to different family members homes lol
Also the topper is the baking of my family recipe of Struffoli 😋 all 5 pounds of it so we have to give out to everyone!
@@OGBReacts ehhhhhhh paisano! 🇮🇹 😎🤣 loud for sure lol

The first time I saw this movie as a kid, when Randy said: "I can't put my arms down".... I had thought for sure he was about to say: "I have to go to the bathroom."
