Awesome Toyota GT86 what's it really like on the road?

- Toyota GT86 is one of the best cars of its type, there's nothing much else out there that's like this car unless you knock on Subaru's door and ask nicely.
Now it's a decent used buy that you should consider.

Thanks very much! Yes I do live in Portlaoise hence most of the videos are shot around Portlaoise. The GT86 and Focus ST are two completely different cars, even if you leave aside the 5 door hatch back versus a 2 door GT thing one of them is FWD and the other is RWD which changes everything about the driving experience. If sensible is what you're after then the ST but if mad is what you like then the GT86.
The most memorable car review I've seen. I never got a GT 86, but I did get a GR86 last year. No doubt partly thanks to this review that I watched 11 years ago.

So... I got my gt86 in black, leather seats and a twat nav... I've put 2000 miles or so on it.... and I still grin like a complete child at Christmas every time I set my right foot down.... fantastic car!!

Good review but one thing. When you say "they have basically taken everything from the Subaru" you do realise that Toyota and Subaru actually designed it together as a joint project and it is actually made in the Subaru workshop, they are the same car intentionally, not because Toyota copied Subaru. The main difference is that Toyota kits theirs out a little better than Subaru does. Just thought I'd point this out in case you cared.

First time I saw this video I was thinking, this guy is overreacting, but very fun to see the review. But after that, when I first drove an FR-S...... !!!! I had the exact same reactions ! Don't need to go fast to have a blast in this car :) Thanks for this review, one of the few that made me buy an FR-S. :)

That engine sounds utterly terrific, not hard to see why you'd have a grin plastered all over your face going through the gears.

I've had my FRS (US version of the 86) since early december.. I have a shit eating grin on my face every time I drive this car! Love the review.. I definitely feel the same! Also reminds me I need to get over to Ireland and visit family. I miss the shit you guys say! :D
Just got a 1.4T Astra which is brilliant but if I was going for a 2 door would definitely go for this. Well after awaiting couple of yrs for price to drop! Forget comparing it to a VW GTi or whatever- most people would not even know the difference between that and a normal Golf, this looks like a proper sport car. You can already get used for £24k in UK

Looks Great Fun !! and cheap in the UK these will be in used car supermarkets here for under £20 K fast though so might be worth waiting 6 months or so to take the depreciation sting out of them would love a go of one after watching this vid though great work and so refreshingly honest

As a fresh GT86 owner, I get your feelings about this great car. And that's a great video and a great review! Well done.
Do you ever get excited? It's an exciting car not for the same reasons that and LFA is but it's more exciting in some ways. I've driven most of the fast stuff the car world has to offer. GTR, Juke R, 370Z, Cupra R, GTI, 911, Ferrari and even Lambo so I do understand torque, speed, track, drift and anything else you like.
The GT86 is fun, all the time, everywhere, there's never a dull moment and that's more exciting than most powerful cars
Again, excellent review....would you take the GT86 over the Megane RS Trophy Bob?? I think you fell in love with the Toyota...It looks an excellent bit of kit. I loved my MR2....what fun from a 1.8...please keep up the excellent reviews...you should do a hot hatch shoot out...Golf Gti. Focus ST, Megane RS, Astra VXR ect ect. I'd love to see that.

This car is sold as a Scion in Canada known as the FRS and the BRZ through Subaru, price £16,500 or $26,000 Canadian. Bob you quoted 40,000 holy jeez that can't be right.

It's 40k Euro, with our taxes and VRT it drives the price up a lot compared to other countries.

Great video, only heard good things about this car. People here in the States are a little upset that they're getting a "Scion" instead of a Toyota though.

Yes I would take the GT86 over the RS because of the RWD. I don't think the GT86 would win a race against the RS but you would be grinning the whole time.
I'm hoping for a hot hatch shootout this autumn, hard getting the cars together

I guess it's a matter of taste too. I've driven RWD and I actually prefer a well done FWD car like the Megane RS over RWD especially in real life. In sketchy conditions, like snow and ice in the winter. RWD often is close to undrivable, where FWD will still work well enougth.
Also, my Megane RS Cup TCe 250 still makes me smile every time I drive it, too. The intensity of fun simply does not get less, even after close to two years of driving it :)

To be fair, the Megane RS will be a better car if lap times are your thing and on paper the Megane is faster at everything BUT. I'm into the driving experience and unless you have a race track in your backyard that's the way you need to think about it too.
A drive to the shops in either car will tell you more than watching EVO scream around tracks, real world is what matters and in the real world the GT86 will make you smile...all the time
Actually, the Scion GT86 is kind of a "cheap version", without keyless activation, LEDs and spoiler (and probably other stuff I didn't got). Therefore a lower price is quite reasonable.
Hey Dec, you appear to be a lone voice of decent in a sea of people who 'get' this channel. No one asked you here, I don't advertise nor sell anything. I don't even get paid to do what I do, it's a dealer drive, at best I had an hour with this car. I work on my own with everything from filming, arranging drives and editing; I even spend time replying to people who don't like what I do.
If you don't like the channel, or the videos then watch something else.

The car is not fast at all but bubbles with feel at ALL speeds. You can have fun at well below legal speed limits. Something that I cannot say about my Evo 9. When I'm having fun in that car, I'm risking jail time.

Hey stop crying mate, delivery time for a Toyota 86 GTS in Australia is 18 months waiting list and the Subaru BRZ is at 12 Month waiting list.
You guys are quite lucky except for the price we got them much cheaper 37k AUD for the GTS.
I didn't notice that when I was filming, it does look like a crack alright. There was nothing wrong with the brakes though

Hey Bob, is RWD such an important decisive factor over the Megane RS265 Trophy? In the EVO test, the Megane TOTALLY destroyed the 86, both in the bends and straight. The interior of the Megane is like a Rolls Royce compared to the Toyota.

lots of supercars these days are all controlled by electronics even if you put it in "sport" mode I've driven a my pals gtr and as exhilarating as hitting 0-60 in 3 seconds is. I never had to fun feeling my brz gives me in a corner
you cant expect it to put out mass amounts of bhp when it only has a 2.0 boxer 4 cyl

Toyota didn't base it on the BRZ, it was a co-operation. Toyota didn't do *much* better either. They are basically the same, although some people think the GT86 feels a bit more aggressive. Still it's just minor details. I can see why people might think this is entertaining. I'm just not one of them, sorry
