  • By moving William Nylander up to play with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, the Leafs are loading their top line, but is it sustainable to keep all that high-priced firepower contained to one unit? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button and OverDrive host Bryan Hayes explain their thoughts.

Its not bad to have in your back pocket when you need offence.
Late game after an icing against a 4th line? Send your big boys out there.

Never works like that. You need them to feel like they will be able to continue going at it for them to create

    Great discussion lads!!!!
I want the reunion to work too because I've got all 3 in my hockey pool and when one scores they all get me points...😊
Re: Domi: his value is sinking like a rock!!!! I'm not convinced he'll contribute much BUT he's Berube's "type" of gritty player so the opportunity is there for him.
Craig said it....they are working at getting this team ready for playoffs. It all comes down to winning at least 1 series for starters and then let's see what develops from there.

Keep the M,N,M ( Auston, Willie, Mitchy) line together, until after the Christmas Break! Lots of skill and offense in this line. Buf, Nyi, and the Jets next on the schedule. Accept nothing less, than 3 WINS and 6 POINTS. A NICE Christmas Gift, too all of LEAFS NATION.

This reminds me of the Sens "pizza" line in 2006/07. Alfie, Spezza and Heatley - who was the grinder ? Everyone was saying "ya gotta spread out the scoring" but those 3, when together, would score at will so it was difficult to separate them. That team didn't win the cup, but they won 3 playoff rounds so who knows ? BTW, they were called the pizza line because Pizza Pizza gave out free slices to all ticket holders the day after the Sens scored 5 in a game. Halfway through the season they had to up it to 6 goals.

Yes and no. Different game and different times. All three of the pizza line wouldn’t shy away from physicality. Idk if you could say the same about this TO line

Domi Robertson McMann played great! Eventually Willy got 2 Ginos.. I'd say a successful experiment, despite a shaky start

64, life long leafs fan. i can tell you guys that, marner and nylander stars on ice, is my hair ok, would be way different than what managment has done in the past, don't go higher in pay and stick to it. common sense. 1.5 mill a year less only changes their life style on the ice, with a better team. 1.5 per year is nothing off ice. it is either the team or me. p.s wendel clark!

They need a mucker that will go in the corners. There is a reason why my Dad calls Nylander "Cinderella".

Those 3 are the softest “superstars” in the league. Might work in a regular season game, but not playoff hockey.

@@GREAT-WHITE-NORTH-1867The Leafs, going into games scheduled to take place Wednesday Eastern Time, are just 4 points up on a Bolts’ squad that has 2 games in hand on them for a top-3 divisional spot. That said, of eight games the Leafs this month have played, they’ve scored two or fewer goals in four of them and inside games have put up a 1-3-0-0 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record when compared to, among games played:
      - last month, 4 (0-3-1-0) of 12
      - in October, from a 1-0 loss in regulation to the Habs, 4 (0-4-0-0) of 11
The Leafs this regular season have in 12 games scored under three goals out of 31 games they have so far played, representing slightly under 40% of such games. In such games during which they have scored under three goals the Leafs have a rather poor 1-10-1-0 record. As much as I predict loading up the top line with three of AM34, Marner, Nylander and Tavares is unlikely to work against the Dallas Stars, Coach Berube Has few viable options given how badly various players outside the AM34-Marner-Nylander-Morgan Rielly-Tavares quintet have struggled this season to put the puck in the net.
