Hello Marty!
My FULL respects to your range tests! For a normal user they cant get more comparable, as thats near laboratory Tests, waht you do!
Same track, same temperature, same rider, same speed. Phantastic!
The reason why most people probalby dont get that much mileage out of their wheels, is because they „commute“ a lot more…..making MUCH more stops and starts. That draws on battery as crazy!
So again: Full respects for doing all those comparisons!
Just a hint: Setting the Lynx or any other wheel to „Low voltage mode“ does NOT take over to third party apps. They just have their own algorithms, when a voltge is called 0% and when not. 104 Volts are about 2.9 volts for the Lynx and to make EucWorld recognize that, it would need to chnage the EucWorld app 0% value.
I guess what your test has shown, is that WH is WH. Lynx seams to get the 10% more range as it watthours are ….
And it also shows that higher voltage doesnt “consume” more energy…in contrary higher voltage means more efficiency.
Thanx for the good community work!
Bests
Ulle
Thanks as always Ulf. Seba is updating EUC (I think) to better represent the battery percentage when low voltage mode is on.
Hope you have a great 2024.
Thanks a lot for the range test and Info ! ℹ️
And happy You did this test on the 50E
🎩🫡✅
Nice. These videos are so informative. Also, the euc world info gives a lot of detail, it's great that you include that. You do good work with these that nobody else does and I'm sure a lot of people are being informed.
Thank you!
Glad to see you back Marty ! Hope you have an amazing year brother,
You’re one of my favorite riders.
Thank you. Hope you have a great upcoming year too.
Awesome video Marty! Love to hear your thoughts on all the wheels! I love my Lynx, it's the perfect wheel for me. Thumbs up on the video! Dawns pedal dip freaked me out by the way 😬 no helmet and seeing that wheel dip forward made my stomach sink, very happy nothing bad happened. 🙌
The dream machine. It checks all the boxes for me. I weight 155. I could probably get 70 miles going near 30 mph the entire time. I think this is my next wheel. The Goldilocks wheel.
Hi, I also weigh 170 pounds, I've already ordered a lynx for myself! I'm really waiting for my parcel))
I like the casual horse 21:26
Marty, I believe in you, the main thing is that this review is sincere and honest, because I believe you, Marty! I love you!
Thanks for the test and the results! Great vid! Also loved the random horse walking by, made me laugh! You're the best!
That’s a good range for a performance wheel, thanks Marty🎉
I am glad the love affair with Veteran has returned!
Thanks, Marty. You're the OG reviewer and one of the best. The Lynx has a great headlight beam pattern.
Good stuff Marty, thanks for the great info! I have the Kenda knobby and it is really nice. And with the 50 S batteries my charger goes all the way up to 151.6 V but I noticed when monitoring the voltage of the individual cells, the charger keeps going (while backing down on current) until all of the cells reach 4.2 V and the max variation is 14/1000 of a volt. Then it shuts down. Maximum temperature reached on all of the cells while charging the battery from 60% all the way up to full was 23° C. So in all my years working with batteries for a living I would say that is pretty damn tight.
Great stuff Marty ... that wheel looks like it will be my next purchase ... seems like it has it all for my style of riding ... thanks again for all the info you provide.
Great info. I dont feel bad about preordering the lynx now. Et max looks awsome but better waterproofing tipped it for me since its been raining nonstop where Im at.
Dude, you look like a superhero on that thing. Kinda like the Green Goblin but in a cool way
When i got into EUC during the 100v era, I wanted a Sherman Max so bad.
Ended up starting with an RS19, than Commander HT and now Commander Mini.
I really like the Patron, but the Lynx will be my 1st Veteran.
Great information! Thanks Marty
I'm torn between Lynx, Sherman S, or EX30 for my first wheel. I can't wait to get in on the action. Thank you for sharing all these helpful videos Marty!
All three of them are great choices. 😉👍 buy em all problem solved 😝
HAHAH that sounds like a great idea!@@dantemarcos1410
All great wheels, but I'd 100% go for the Lynx. Overall it's arguably the best wheel right now, and more importantly for newbies it's light. Not light compared to old small wheels but super light compared to the 100lb behemoths that it competes with.
I have an ex30 and I'd trade it for a lynx in a heartbeat and I LOVE my ex30
@@thuggooch1776 I am an experienced rider and I ordered myself a lynx!
Nice job as usual!
That seems to be a solid wheel 💪🏼
Hope to see it in person one day
Hi Marty, great video. I love your consistency with your range tests and comparisons.. You mentioned the speedo distance (Odometer) was out a bit. Is there anything you know of that can calibrate the travel distance. I have a new lynx and I found mine was showing 75 km where I only travelled 70 km. Love to find out more about the second menu. Cheers, Dennis.
There's no way to calibrate the wheel or stock app displays. But Darknessbot and EUC World allow you to calibrated the speed values with GPS so that when you are using those apps you will have an accurate display of your speed and distance.
Thanks for your quick reply Marty. I do use EUC World and I know some tuning is possible there. I was hoping if you have contacts with Leaperkim they might help with some info on the THIRD menu on the Lynx (as in the bottom left button held for about 10 seconds). The writing is a little cryptic. Perhaps there may be some adjustments there. I am not game to touch it without some instructions. Cheers
2cells1pack are the couple that had the Lynx with 2 sets of springs and I confirmed with ewheels that they are progressive springs. They are actually working on progressive springs now for the Patton as well!
Thanks. Yes, I said all that in the video :-)
I'm 165 pounds and I run my Kenda tire all the way down at 22 psi. I just did a 50 mile ride with 4800 feet of elevation gain and about 50% of the ride was dirt and the other 50% was going pretty fast on the pavement. Got home and my battery was at 24%.
That sounds very impressive. Based on those numbers I have to assume the 50% dirt ride was very slow and that you had lots of regen on the downhill parts. Feel free to share the actual speeds.
@@ElectricUnicycles Street speeds are between 25 and 35 mph and offroading at roughly 15 miles an hour because it is bumpy and Rocky.
Awesome review as always Marty.
How I I get the EUC app showing in the Insta 360 as your video shows
I record the EUC World app video separately and combine everything in post video editing.
Thanks for tihs range test Marty !
50S or 50E battery ?
50E's
Great review Marty! What impact do you think a street tire would have on the range given its lower rolling resistance? Would there be any difference with a 50S battery?
I doubt that there's much difference in range but I have no hard facts. 50S batteries affect how much current can be supplied under hard load. Under nominal riding conditions there is no difference between 50E and 50S batteries.
Probably the most complete wheel so far although I prefer my EX30 for long travels
How much does weight actually effect the range? I'm 6'4 and 260 lbs. Under the same conditions all other things being equal, how much less milage might I get out of that wheel?
It's really hard to quantify but from my experience in group rides, you do see a non-trivial range difference from very light and heavy riders. You could probably see a 10 - 20 percent decrease in range compared to me
Good test! You mind sharing what's the light that you've got installed here?
I'm not sure I understand. The only light that I'm using is the stock headlight that comes with the wheel.
@@ElectricUnicycles Oh, sure, thanks - I thought that that's an aftermarket one, as I've heard that the stock one is quite blinding (the beam isn't cut off on the top enough) but It didn't seem like it from the video, thus my misconception :)
@@tomallo99 It can still probably be blinding but what's nice about this light is that you can easily adjust the angle of the light to reduce that affect.
in 2 miles you lost 10 % on the app ... from 22% to 12% ... its crazy... I love my Lynx & I am a Big Man riding & get aroound 65 miles per charge on a range test going you speed but being 6'4" 275lbs ....Its a great wheel amoung a bunch of really good wheels... Right now the lynx is on top of the mountain.
PS thats what I average on that wheel with almost 100 lbs with gear more so its very good.
Marty do you think a street tire would yield better range? I feel like I used to hear 10% more range, does that sound right?
I would be guessing but my guess would be a lot less than 10%. I think tire pressure would have more of an impact.
@ElectricUnicycles Thx Marty, I feel like I'm basing this off of some video I saw on wrong ways Channel years ago.
Would be interesting to see a street tire vs offroad range comparison.
@@ElectricUnicycles would you say that the suspension feels just as plush as the Sherman s or patton with equal spring weight?
@@Mpower31 The lynx is a better suspension.
the best comparisonm.that is why Marty isnthe Godfather ...he deserves it all day...stay healthy !
Thanks Marty for this nice video. I have the Master V2 and never had a problem with it and i get exactly the same results as your Master ride. I upgraded my suspension for the carbon fiber from Tomasello (250 USD) and it is now a much better ride than the original. My BIG question is, should i pay like an extra 1800 usd for buying the Linx in exchange for my Master for just 10-12 extra miles range? I'm hesitating now.
Well, I don't think I'd buy the Lynx just for the additional range. If range is what you're really looking for you could save a lot of money and buy an EX30 instead. The Lynx is all about general ride quality and suspension comfort, IMHO.
LYNX more quality and more confort !
66 miles is REALLY impressive
Warm weather no major inclines, relatively low speed. Good range.... I think not!
@@trevorshields7347You're tripping if you think that's bad for a mid-weight wheel. My ex30 only scored 10 miles higher on a similar test from Dawn Champion.
That's good range for how small the battery is what you mean? 🤔
66 miles is pretty bad imo.
Curious on what kind of range you will get with the Patton vs the Lynx. Duf got the same range with similar routes, weights and riding speeds, and both wheels weigh the same.
No knock on Duf but his range tests aren't nearly as quantifiable as mine so I wouldn't feel comfortable saying that the Patton gets the same range as the Lynx.
It would be interesting to do a test: Do wheels with little less voltage, a little less watt motor, and the same size wh battery (or a little less) get the same range? Do larger volt wheels drain more battery and get less range potential than smaller volt wheels with the same size battery? And the big question: If valid, is the amount of power gain vs price (1000$+ between the Lynx and Patton)? My 2700wh 100v Nik gets 80+ mi of range. (170lb rider, 15-25mph, hills and flats) @@ElectricUnicycles
Also - Adam (Wrong Way) got 95 kilometers (59 miles) on his Patton Range Test.@@ElectricUnicycles
@@ChrisH0Y Lots of good ideas. Unfortunately not enough time in the day, for me 😄
What's the longest range wheel you've tested so far?
Master Pro. No other wheel comes close!
@@ElectricUnicycles did you happen to do a range test on the Commander Pro? I can't seem to find a video? Also, what range did you get from the master pro?
any update this year about the SS with higher voltage?
I know nothing about a new SS
LYNX beeps driving Junkyard Dog crazy at 21:00. Was that a horse that galloped by after that, lol?
Yes, there are horses on the river trails :-)
in terms of value you cant beat the mini for the price right now...best deal on the market.
I love my ComMini, and it is a very affordable hybrid type wheel in my estimation. It can do it all "adequately." Now with 1,700 miles logged since August, it has been a flawless machine. It's perfect without having to worry about range anxiety on all my rides.
@@Signetring54can the Com mini go down stairs and doing jumps??
I have traveled down multiple stairs at the local university campus with no issues. There is a RUclips video of a guy jumping off a 3 foot plus platform and landing with no problems. The suspension held its own while landing. At 69 years old., I'm not much for jumping like the younger daredevils. Being an 18" tire, this wheel is not designed for the higher speeds, and I usually ride at between 18 -36 mph, fast enough in my estimation on a one wheel machine.
6:15 What’s the scraping noise?
Good question. I think there was still dried mud in the wheel well from some previous riding.
And people said on my video that I was too dark ninja rider 19:18 😂
What would be the best spring for 150lbs?
62-pounds
What was the tire PSI set to while you did the test marty?
~28-psi is what I use on all my EUC's
Tire recommendation?
I really like the CST tire on this wider rim. I'm not a tire aficionado though :-)
I wonder, what is your weight as a kg Sir?Thanks in advance.
If you watch the video I give my body weight in kg at 3:14 😂
Are you using a insta 360x3 ?
X1 - I like its light weight.
should be around 3.3v where the samsung cells power falls off a cliff. At 36s configuration thats around 118v which is 13% from your video. That should be as far as you take it under normal circumstances to maximize your battery life. I'm assuming the samsung 50s cells are rated at a 600 discharge cycles but those conditions they take it from 100% full charge at 4.2v to 2.5v which is really testing the battery. If you just take it to 3.3v max discharge in most cases you should be able to get over 1000 cycles easily. That's like 3 years of riding 60miles every single day and getting about 80% capacity left
My Lynx has 50E cells. I don't care about battery life on my wheels. Will never keep a wheel much more than a few years and far less than 10,000-miles.
I much prefer to use my wheels and not be bothered with pampering the batteries. But everyone has different priorities in life.
@@ElectricUnicycles When you're throwing down $4000 on a PEV, I think anyone would like to have a good idea how long the battery is going to last them and would be open to a few key tips that would help their battery last exponentially longer.
When i built my ebike 14 years ago, none this existed and everything was DIY. You were the BMS, managing the voltage of every cells in series otherwise your bike goes up in flames. Had no choice but to pamper your $2k battery pack you built
@@keokio7 I'm certainly not opposed to managing the battery but personally I don't care. I'm approaching 8-years of extensive riding of EUC's (~40,000-miles) and I've never concerned myself with how low I run the batteries, how I charge them or how I maintain them during long periods of non-use. I've never noticed any battery degradation. And I personally know a lot of riders and battery life is never a topic of conversation (E.g., "Wow John, I've been noticing that my wheel isn't getting the range that it used to get").
The reality is, the EUC landscape continues to change at such a rapid rate that most EUC's are not ridden much beyond 2 or 3 years before the newest and greatest is purchased. So it's wasted effort (IMO) to spend any appreciable amount of time maintaining battery health unless it gives you joy.
@@ElectricUnicycles practically speaking, your approach makes sense to the vast majority of riders that just wants to ride and have fun. I think we're living in a time now where these things like battery cycles and such are a none issue, and it should be that way.
But the engineering side in me has as much fun comparing discharge curves of different cells, c-ratings, and hub motor kv's.. go figure.
Old habits die hard, and I'm kinda sad that the DIY electric community is dying out in favor of all in one solutions like the Surrons and such. Can't complain, these are amazing machines.. i'm planning on getting my first EUC this year and I'm glad I don't have to build one LOL
@@keokio7 Totally understand. I was an engineer for 40-years. But at this point in my life I just want to enjoy EUC's without a lot of tinkering. Good luck this year with your upcoming EUC adventures ✊
Hey! Can it reach 90 km/h with PWM 80-85%?
I have no idea. You'll need to contact riders that use the wheel at its upper limit.
Hey Marty, do you ever feel like it’s out of control? all these electric unicycle‘s keep coming out and we keep switching them and buying new ones for an extra little bit of performance for an extra 10 miles. Personally, I live the 40-40 rule. If I can go 40 mph safely for an extended period of time and I can also get 40 miles, I tend to stick with that unicycle for at least a few years before switching. You’re commander mini has an excellent built quality and a full metal jacket, and only gets 10 miles less than a lynx’s and still can do 50. It literally has all the torque and performance that 99% of riders will ever need for $2200 at euc deals. When all these new releases were coming out last year, I Purchased a MAX, because if it’s superior, build quality and range, and I have not regretted it, especially after 40 miles when everybody else starts slowing down and my compact size and weight and superior range allows me to zip around for a whole day. Yes I gave up suspension but I also have superior range and have no maintenance practically. I just bought the Mini for short trips and suspension but I really don’t see the point in buying all these other wheels every year based on my riding. I think it’s crazy!
I agree that's there's certainly no need now, to be buying the latest and greatest. But it's not always about "need". Depending on your passion level, you just want to get the latest and greatest :-)
Who the heck rides a damn HORSE At night like that ? LOL 😂 I guess it’s normal to you 😅
