    This is the first in a series I am doing on Kubota L Series Maintenance. Recently I completed the 400 hour maintenance on my L3901 and it occurred to me that I was doing all the steps of the 50 hour, 100 hour, and 200 hour maintenance milestone as well. So I am in the process making a video for each of these milestones with the video I shot for the 400 hour maintenance. I am also going to release several standalone videos for tasks such as greasing, oil change, hydraulic oil change, and cleaning the water separator. Stay tuned for those!

    I use a large rectangular plastic container from Walmart for my oil changes. It covers enough area to catch the first surge of oil all the way to the last drop. When done, I pour it from the corner of the plastic storage container into a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. Never had any spillage issues. Put the 5 gallon lid on since it has a rubber seal. When 5 gallon bucket is full (After several car / tractor oil changes), take it to my local fast oil change shop and they empty it for me free of charge. Hope this idea helps.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  3 года назад +1

      Hi Rob! Yes, the transmission oil filter is changed at 50 hours, but I find it interesting that the main hydraulic filter isn’t changed until 400 hours on the Kubota standard L series. Some tractor models have you change all the filters and fluids at 50 hours, which is an expensive undertaking mainly because of the cost of the hydraulic fluid. Thanks for watching!

    Whenever I change fluids I use a flattened cardboard box to put the collection container onto. Any drips or big amounts of oil just get on the box. I have a tarp that is under the whole area. A couple of times in 50 years I was VERY happy that I overprepared. I also tighten the filter to the point that I cant hand tighted any more...THEN a half turn with the filter wrench.

    If you fear that your crease fittings have clogged or dried up, squirt a dabble of PB blaster, while depressing the ball to let some inside. Then try your grease gun. Sometimes you may have to take the grease nipple off and clean it in with some PB blaster., Or equivalent. WD-40 is pretty much crap.

      Not according to the operator’s manual for the Kubota standard L series. You only change the transmission filter at 50 hours, but not the main hydraulic filter or the fluid. However, I hear that some other models of Kubota (possibly older ones?) do require it. Best bet is to do exactly what your manual says, although it certainly wouldn’t hurt to change the fluid and filters at 50 hours. Thanks for watching!

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, Arles! That’s an interesting point! Both the owners manual and the Workshop Manual (WSM) for the L3901 have the first filter change at 400 hours along with the first change of the hydraulic oil. I have read that the manuals for some other Kubota tractors call for both the hydraulic filter and the oil to be changed at 50 hours. Even though, I followed the manual exactly, I wish I had at least changed the filter at 50 hours. Also, I noticed a discrepancy between the owners manual and the WSM for how often some maintenance tasks are done. The owner’s manual shows them done every 100 hours whereas the WSM shows the same tasks done at every 400 hours. I chose to go with the owner’s manual. Thanks for watching!

    Love the video. I have the kubota L3301D. I was working with the loader moving dirt at low rpms, and it cut off. It started right back up but now it has what looks like a puff cloud at the top righthand corner. How can I clear it out? There is (no) codes showing. It has less than 120 hours on it. Please advise. Thank you.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  3 года назад +2

      Hi Bryant! Your tractor is telling you it needs to do a DPF regen, so you need to throttle up to 2,500 RPM and when the exhaust is hot enough, it will start the DPF regen automatically. Let it run at the speed until the regen (puff cloud) light goes out. You can use the tractor while doing a regen. Just keep the RPMs above 2,500 until the light goes out. Thanks for watching!

    There are 2 trans filter that are both changed at the 50 hour service aren't there? I only saw you change one filter changed but there are two filters on the print out for the 50 hour service from Kubota.. One is Transmission Oil Filter(Kubota Part # HHK70-14070)as well as the second filter Hydraulic Oil Filter(Kubota Part # HH3A0-82623). I understand one is a cartridge pre filter type ( $46.00) and one is a regular looking filter type at $26.00)

      Hi Van. There is only one hydraulic filter to change at 50 hours according to the 2017 Kubota L3301, L3901 manual. It is the Transmission Oil Filter (Kubota Part # HHK70-14070). Curiously, the Hydraulic Oil Filter isn't changed until 400 hours. Many other Kubota tractors specify you change both at 50 hours, so I don't know why that is the case for these models. BTW, both filters look like regular oil filters. The difference is the Hydraulic Oil Filter has a magnet at the inlet to the filter to pick up metal shavings, which mine certainly had done at 400 hours. Thanks for watching!

      I went to the Kubota dealer and they told me there are 2 filters. It's on the print out you posted. I took the print out with me and they even pointed it out and showed it to me on the paper. Maybe in 2017 there was only one filter but now there are two. My 3901 is a 2020. .@@DIYMyWay

    Oil and filters are fairly cheap. I change mine every 50hours

    Great videos! I have a L3901 manual transmission (not HST). I was about to do the Tran oil filter but it looks like that’s only for HST. Is that what you have? Thanks

    Is there any reason that you wouldn’t change the oil filter in the middle of the oil change (after you’ve drained the system of oil but have not yet filled it back up)?

      @DIYMyWay  4 года назад

      No particular reason. Then again, there’s no reason not to either. Thanks for watching!

    I have a 2020 Kubota L2501 Diesel. I am here in central Oklahoma (Hot summer climate) and I am curious as to what weight of Engine Oil the engine uses. It is about to hit its first 50 Hour Maintenance.

      Hi Jeffrey! You should refer to your manual for the proper SAE type based on your climate. I live in Georgia and we have hot summers too, so I use Shell Rotella T-5 synthetic blend SAE15W-40. Thanks for watching!

    Hello and great video as always. I have the L2501 and in my owners manual it also has the Hydraulic oil filter replacement too. Does your manual not have you changing this filter? Thanks for your great videos.
    Never mind. After reading other comments I see you’ve already answered this question. My tractor is a 2020 model so perhaps it’s just a L2501 maintenance and not the 33 or 39 models? Thanks again Sir.

      Yep, I found it strange that the 50 our maintenance steps can vary in such big matters such as the hydraulic oil filter among very similar tractors of the same brand. Thanks for watching!

    What about the hydraulic filter?

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  9 месяцев назад

      My 2017 L3901 manual doesn't not mention replacing the hydraulic filter or the fluid, but if I had to do it over, I would at least change the filter because it just makes sense. Thanks for watching!

      That’s not changed until 400 hours per the 2017 L3301/L3901 manual. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Tiffany! What are you trying to adjust? The only things you can adjust with the PTO is whether it’s engaged or not and the speed in RPM. Thanks for watching!

    Makes no cents why u would only have change hydraulic filter at 50

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  Год назад

      Actually, it was just the transmission hydraulic filter and not the main hydraulic pump system filter, which I thought was odd, since some tractors call for changing all the filters and even all the hydraulic fluid at 50 hours. That’s in addition to engine oil and filter. Thanks for watching!
