    That’s Good Sports discussing breaking NFL news. Jon Gruden & Mike Mayock seemed to miss on all of their 1st round NFL draft picks. They also struggled in free agency, so today we take a deep dive into the 2nd Gruden era with the Oakland & Las Vegas raiders until he was ultimately forced to resign for his email scandal.

      That’s what’s so weird about his history. Everyone forgets this. Brandon didn’t even mention it in his video.
      When Gruden was hired by ESPN, fans all acted like he was a modern day football god. While the truth was it took him only a few seasons to turn the Bucs back into what they had been until Dungy arrived - irrelevant.
      That’s going to happen to any coach who doesn’t like young players, said it wasn’t his job to develop rookie QBs and collected veteran QBs to prove he could turn any QB around.

    Let me explain the simple nature of Jon Gruden, he’s a very simple creature that can be summed up with one word; EGO. He and Mayock refused to draft blue chip prospects because they needed to look smarter than everyone else by taking players who no one else thought was good. So winning wasn’t their top priority, nurturing their ego was the top priority.

      @DevilKillerJCS Год назад +5

      @@HzizsVynryn Yeah, that was a major head scratcher, but then again, nearly every decision Gruden/Mayock made was like that. Getting rid of 3 pro bowl O-linemen before last year's draft was probably the dumbest one, especially considering who they got to replace that (Leatherwood). Only good picks they got were Crosby and Renfrow, and neither are first round picks (though if there was a redraft both probably would be now lol).
      But yeah, I'm in the same boat as many other Raiders fans; the Del Rio firing then Gruden hiring was not something I was excited about. I thought he'd destroy the team on purpose tbh (Gruden had a grudge against Al Davis, nevermind the fact that he passed away). That didn't happen but he still screwed the team up during his time there. Really surprised he didn't get rid of Carr.

    As a Chiefs fan I was excited for the Gruden era, because Gruden was more BS than coach and Mayock was no different so I believed they were going in the wrong direction once this happened. Now one thing you maybe didn't put together but deserves some thought. Perhaps McKenzie was fired because of Gruden's color issues? I wonder what Mark's father would think about all of this considering his advocating civil rights? He was the first NFL owner in the modern era to hire a black head coach. Now saying all of that I do believe Gruden was the scapegoat to make sure there weren't continued investigations from what was discovered in Washington. I think all of that needs to come out in the clear. In fact, Goddell probably needs to be fired for not allowing the information be revealed. Now that we've reached the whole streaming factor Goddell will probably stay on a couple more years and make his exit with a nice retirement package. Perna, maybe you should try and do a balls deep in depth investigative story on the emails situation? I'm guessing there might be some sources out there that may know something more information than what we've been given.

    I think Gruden's main fault as a play caller was he was obvious. He didn't really disguise his plays. He needed to be more pass heavy and never went that direction. Also his defensive coordinators were also from a bygone generation as well. I liked the decision at first to hire him, JDR seemed to have reached his limit and Gruden was a head coach with a ring which is hard to be in the NFL. By year 3 I wanted him gone so bad
