    I have to admit that after watching your video, I was sold on the idea of the Kobo Libra Colour. I gave up on Amazon’s Kindle a while back and have been shopping around for a new eReader. So, I have taken the plunge and ordered the Libra Colour.
    I also use Calibre to organise my eLibrary, and am looking forward to reading off the Libra when it arrives.
    So I guess, a thank you is in order.

    Nice review. It's funny I've seen the device onscreen now a couple of times and in person yesterday in retail world and the screen looks pink to me. Other people online have commented as well. I guess it's the new blue dress/gold dress thing.

I’m not very good at reading being dyslexic. I can’t pick up a book and read it straight I struggle with it and I listen to books on my phone and I seen that Scott That be brilliant and being dyslexic people need colour and I don’t do much to the brain strange thank you for sharing 👍👍📕📕📕 sorry for my spelling 🙏🏽

    I bought the Kobo Clara Colour, but I returned it because the page is too gray for comfort unless you dial up the brightness. I love that textured back, though. It’s easy to hold without a case, where my Kindle Basic is too slick.

      That's a big difference. I had an older generation ereader (not Kobo, but similar), and recently bought the new, color version from the same company. Initially I couldn't tell, but then I put them side by side and the difference was significant. I also figured out this way that I actually prefer the colour screen, because for some reason (probably the contrast in combination with my eye conditions), the old screen tends to give me migraines more often. But regardless, it is indeed an obvious difference.

    When ordering a genuine Kobo case, it is easy to order the “wrong” one, depending upon whether you require the case to be able to hold the overpriced stylus, hereto referred as the stylus. The case that has a slot to hold the stylus has the word “notebook” in the description. I’m very pleased with the build and feel of the Kobo cases as compared to the Kindle cases. It is much more pleasant to the touch. Thank you for another wonderful video, and thank you for the time and effort that you provide to produce these videos for us. Much appreciated!

    The first couple days I had my Libra Colour, when comparing it directly side by side with my paperwhite, I felt like the UI on the kobo (I’ve been a kobo girlie for close to 15 years) is far better user experience but the screen on my paperwhite was better as far as contrast.
    I was initially disappointed at how gray the Libra appeared when reading, felt like there was a grainy, screen door thing going on. I debated returning it.
    However after just 2 days, my eyes have adjusted and I just don’t see the screen door or grain anymore. I live in southern Spain, so outdoor lighting ranges from overwhelmingly bright to quite shady overcast, and I’m able to read it just fine.
    If I put my ereaders side by side, again I do prefer the BW look of the kindle, but I also love the colors on the Libra and the UI so ultimately I am keeping it

    • @CriminOllyBlog
      @CriminOllyBlog  4 месяца назад

      Yeah there definitely is a greyness to the screen as a result of the layer that gives it the colour, but agree that you don't notice it when actually reading

    I ordered this after seeing MJ's video and I keep stalking my email to see if it shipped yet. I've never had a non-kindle e-reader, and I'm so excited to try this! My question is...lets say you finish the book that you wrote in. Is there an easy place to go to see the notes you made? I wouldn't want to page through it to find them. Also, do you know if it connects to goodreads like kindle does?

    • @CriminOllyBlog
      @CriminOllyBlog  4 месяца назад +3

      It doesn’t connect to Goodreads as that’s an Amazon owned service.
      And when you go into a book you can opt to see a list of all your notes and highlights

    Some questions, I know I can find the answers online, but a video review should cover this points imo and it could still be useful for people that want to see it in action and an opinion it the talking points are useful or not (I remember deciding wether to buy a kindle or kobo years ago in base of which let me invert the colors of the page and then as soon as I bought my kindle and tested it I found that I didn't need it as much as I thought):
    1) I like the color screen, but sometimes even on some other devices I like to put the screen in B&W so that I can be less distracted by colors and has helped me immensely to be less distracted by my devices, does the kobo Clara have a black and white mode just in case?
    2) You said that they are repairable but by how much? can you just take out the battery or can you replace things like the Port or the buttons?
    3) How does it charge (i.e. magnetically or just with a USB-C port)? How fast does it charge? and how much does it last? I presume the color screen adds to the battery consumption just by adding a second screen that has to work alongside the b&w screen underneath
    4) Are there some books that you can find on the Kobo store that are on the Kindle store or viceversa? I'm worried of switching and not finding books that I want and Amazon surely has a bigger market just cause of the fact that everyone can auto-publish on kindle
    5) Regarding the last point, how easily can you pass books to the Clara? Do you have to connect it to your PC or can you use an App?
    6) Does the pen have its own battery or is the Clara just reacting to the pen like a DS stylus would via the resistive layers and pressure sensitivity?
    7) What are some of the things that the Clara does better than the Kindle? You mentioned being able to write directly on the letters, are there some other things that made you pause and say "I didn't know I wanted this"?
    8) are there somethings that a color screen could be used for that you still prefer to read on paper? for example Children books, sure color could be useful but I'm sure a kid could find weird having to look at pictures on a small cooler screen rather than a big book, same goes with stuff like magazines/newspaper or textbooks, the main reason I'm interest in color is for comics and graphic novels, would you prefer to read them on paper or on the Kindle?
    9) how are the colors rendered? are they even remotely comparable to the colors of a real comic? I look at all the images and thing that the colors are very pretty when it comes to minimal book covers o flat colors but everyone says that they are washed up when it comes to things like gradients, I don't expect a 1:1 accuracy and saturation, but I don't want to buy a device just so the colors are a just a tiny bit better than no color at all
    thanks in advance even if you answer to just some of the questions :)

      I can help with #2 and #3.
      #2 - ifixit has partnered with kobo and offers full user guides with pictures for replacing the screen, battery, main board, front case and back case and parts are available for purchase. Kobo recommends only doing this route once the original warranty runs out.
      #3 it’s USB-C charging only and from dead empty to full charge it comes in at just under 2 hours.

    It's great, especially for reading manuscripts and as a motorcyclist, not being saddled with books on journeys, but be careful, the screen has a tendency to die a premature death. I thought it was a kindle thing, but my Kobo went belly up only after two or three years…

I have the same one as you and a kobo sage. The sage is a bit crisper just because colour e-reader technology is still slightly behind black and white, so if you have any issues I thoroughly recommend the sage but if not the colour should be great too.
