I'd like to hear discussion around the efficacies of green bitter melon vs white bitter melon; or, between the smooth green bitter melons and the more-spiny bitter melons. The white bitter melons ("Japanese Perls") seem to stay on the vine a LOT longer than the smooth green ones, which tend to turn orange almost as fast as they ripen.
Also, is it better for diabetics in the early green form as opposed to fully ripened? I hear it's pretty sweet after it turns yellow and I'm guessing it may be similar to a banana in that regard?
Hi Dr. Ergin, thanks for introducing your SugarMD Advanced Glucose Support. Currently, I'm taking Benfotiamine 300mg capsule once a day along with my own multi-vitamin for men. Maybe I should wait 'til I finish Benfotiamine first and then I might consider taking your product. Talking about bitter melon, I'm Chinese. The Chinese name for bitter melon is called "Fu Gua." I occasionally cook "Fu Gua" in Chinese style by cutting them into slices along with Chinese black bean sauce mixed with garlic & ginger (pretty salty) and then add slices of tender beef (flank steak) along with Chinese condiments such as oyster sauce "ho yao" or soy sauce " si yao" and then enjoy. Mmmm, yummy😍😜 I usually go to Los Angeles, CA Chinatown, to buy them pre-made as well. I first learned how to cook them from my mother and I often cook like her. I loved "Fu Gua" as well as broccoli beef (Chinese style of course). Once again, thanks for sharing with us this valuable information about "Fu Gua." Both "Fu Gua & broccoli are anti-cancer veggies. Amen to that. 💓👍✌🦉😜🙏.

They are growing wild all over my fence and property here in SW Florida. I want to try them so badly but I am not sure how to prepare them. They start off small and green with spiny body then turn into lemon size bright orange spiney balls. They fall off and open up are hollow inside with big red seeds. I am going to learn how to prepare them. I’m not diabetic but struggle with losing weight and what feels like blood sugar issues.
You eat sweet food, eat also bitter food like bitter melon or we call it ampalaya in Filipino language. The doctor is right. Make ampalaya smoothie: one half banana, one medium size organic ampalaya. Three times a week makes you feel good.
Adding Bitter Melon, Mulberry leaf and Berberine to my supplement and vitamin regime made a huge difference in my glucose levels. Bitter Melon was the big one; more of what I noticed when I ran out! Lower glucose and helped with insulin sensitivity. Metformin did not really work. Now I'm hitting some "normal" glucose numbers. I also fast 16/8 working to 20/4 and that is a big factor as well. I'm finding I "need" to eat less and less, minimize carbs, green smoothies without fruit (see Dr. Brooke Goldner Goodbuy to Lupus), ACV and HIIT exercise. Everyone is different though, this is just what works for me. I did not know about Bitter Melon and cholesterol, and that's great. I just don't tolerate (nor want to) pharmaceuticals well at all. Your videos - they are fun and engaging - and information have helped guide my path and given me more hope that I can beat diabetes. Very difficult to find a physician that doesn't just want to write you a script.
We appreciate your kind comment Kendall. Please spread the word and help other people who may need help. I am so glad you are doing so good! Keep it up!

Also, is it better for diabetics in the early green form as opposed to fully ripened? I hear it's pretty sweet after it turns yellow and I'm guessing it may be similar to a banana in that regard?
Agreed. I’d love to see this as well.
Thank you for sharing Leo.

have always heard of bitter melon but can't find it locally to test it out. If I could find it I would definitely add it to my salads and to my juice mixer.
I can send to you. Find a international market. They have great produce just clean it well.
I buy mine at the Indian store. They're well priced
This is India, Bangladesh & Pakistani vegetable, excellent.🦋🥀
A lot of ASIAN countries eat it
You eat sweet food, eat also bitter food like bitter melon or we call it ampalaya in Filipino language. The doctor is right.
Make ampalaya smoothie: one half banana, one medium size organic ampalaya. Three times a week makes you feel good.
My Husband is currently taking bitter melon and love it but can he combine MILK THISTLE extract with that?
It is sauted and its delicious..its called ampalaya in the philippines..

How many milligrams of bitter melon per day is good to take?
Can we drink bitter gourd juice everyday?
Keep it up!

Would chopping it up with a food chopper and mixing it with spices and condiments reduce the bitterness?
Reducing bitterness depends on how you prepare and cook it. You may check different recipes here in youtube
It comes in capsule form for about $10 on Amazon.

First - bittermelon is NOT an Herb, it is a climbing vegetable. Not sure of theborigins vut it is all over Asia and i have been eating it since i can remember (both leaves and fruits in any way i can think of). The Kerala variety is more more known from India. The leaves are the ones pulverized for capsules. The fruit can be sliced and sauted with other vegetables or sliced thinly for salads. Philippines has looonnng known it is good for diabetics but it sometime for the world to know.
Very useful information Thank you Sir

I blended 1 small bitter melon along with it's seeds with a glass of water in my Vitamix, is it safe to consume the seeds Doc?
In fact, the genus name for this plant comes from the Latin verb meaning "to bite." But don't eat the seeds. They are probably a bit poisonous. This species is now widely cultivated around the world, and is sometimes seen as a vegetable in specialty markets.Jul 25, 2019
