I love bitter melon. It's good for your health. Pack with nutrients and has a lot of health benefits like it can help reduce blood sugar, could decrease cholesterol levels, may have cancer fighting properties, and improve fiber intake.

I'm from Philippines. We love bitter melon and we call it "Ampalaya" It is proven to help lower blood sugar level because our bloodline is prawn diabetic and most of us can't afford maintenance medicine. My relatives especially who rely only on organic foods as cure. This vegetable is magical. Don't mind about the taste. Make a great dish out of it and you are good to go.

when we were kids, we had karela as part of our dinner...those were the nights I didn't eat.....now 50 years later, I eat it raw....and it aligns with the clues from Mother Nature....bitter is better.

My mom use to sprinkle salt on diced bitter melon and juice it before she cooked it with cabbage and salted codfish. Sometimes it was cureied in coconut milk.
We ate it with rice as a meal periodically, once in a while.
The juice was bitter salty and we drank it as it was to clean our system.

Its been extensively studied in england. The south east asian community is predisposed to insulin dependent diabetes: but doctors found that their carela based diets meant they had zero amputations and minimalist serious consequences like diabetic neuropathy. For those unable to tolerate the taste it is available in pill form

Olive oil can be added after cooking the better melon, because if you heat the oil becomes as bad as any other vegetable oil. so, no heating no cooling the olive oil before eating .

The most wonderful recipe for Bitter Melon is Divya Alter's recipe from her first book "What to Eat for How you Feel" Baked Taro Root and Bitter melon. It is truly amazing and the spice masala used cuts the bitter taste completely.

I had a terrible yeast infection for 4 days and it was so bad that my vagina was swollen with pain and itchy like crazy. I ate Bitter Melon my sister cook. I ate it because that is the only thing my sister cooks and for the next two days I feel no itch or pain. That was really weird. I wonder why all of sudden my vagina was better? Then, I remember I ate bitter melons two days ago. It's a natural medicine. If you know how to cook them they will taste good.
