I love how they choose to represent the scene with Hannah and Porter, because it feels so real. Sadly I've seen a lot of psychiatrists and psychologists and many of them have made the same mistakes that Porter made here. The telephone ringing (that's a classic, some shrinks even answer the call regardless of having someone feeling depressed right in front of them), the uncomfortable looks, the uneffective counseling, etc... Many shrinks gave me the impression of not wanting to be there or that they didn't even care, and it's disrespectful, highly frustrating and sad. You feel helpless, like if the only person that could and should help you doesn't have the empathy to do it. Great reaction, Logan. Hope u have a great weekend :)
I think its important to play devils advocate here, especially since my mother is a psychiatrist. Often times those who are depressed will make every interaction regardless of how positive into a negative experience. For example, Hannah thinking that Clay hates her, when really their interactions don't suggest that at all. Or thinking the same about her parents, which also isn't the case. Psychiatrists/counselors have to walk a very fine line of being honest but also being careful with their words, because the wrong words can have real damage, as we saw with Mr. Porter. Often times, that pensive look and hesitation to say the wrong thing can come across as discomfort and looking like they don't want to be there, especially to someone who is predisposed to see every interaction as negative. Also, Hannah didn't give Mr. Porter too many options. I mean for sure he could have done more, but she refused to say who raped her and refused to even really say she was raped. She refused to go to the police or even let her parents know. She basically refused help. So while Mr. Porter could have reassured her, and consoled her, his suggestion that the other option was to just move on was quite accurate. Hannah didn't want help, but felt personally attacked when he made that clear to her. Mr. Porter definitely made a mistake, but it was a human mistake, and stemmed from a difficulty in matching his compassion/empathy to the help he could actually give. You could clearly see the pain he was experiencing in that moment. He didn't cause Hannah to kill herself. She came to him as a last ditch attempt, hoping for a perfect encounter, and when as expected that didn't happen, the damage was magnified 100x for her.
Ok. Maybe I wasn't clear (english is not my native language, so is highly probable that I expressed something that I didn't mean to, sorry)... I'm not saying all psychiatrists or psychologists are the same, I'm saying that from *my experience* the majority of psychiatrists that I've had were...mmm...dissapointing. Besides, I'm from another country, so maybe in USA there are more "good psychiatrists" than "bad ones" (is not like they're the worst either, they just make mistakes that could cost lives). Anyways, I understand that people that are depressed generaly transform most interactions into a negative experience. Hannah thinking that Clay and her parents hates her, etc... but she's is mentally ill! Of course she's gonna think that! Besides, in the heat of the moment her parents and Clay were obviously mad at her (Clay was mad at her for crying about Jeff thinking that she was seeking attention, wich was wrong; and her parents were mad at her 'cause she lost the money, wich was fine but they failed to see the signs of Hannah's depression and failed to be a little more understanding about losing the money [is not like a teen *want* to lose money]), so she took that much more worse than a non-depressed person would. But as a mental health professional you can't just wash your hands and say "Hey, she was depressed, so is not my problem what she thought I was thinking, she came to me with a negative mindset", is your *job* to be able to help that person, to show you're empathetic and that you can be trusted, is *your* job to try to help, not the job of the mentally-ill person to help you help them. Yeah, you gotta be extra careful and that sucks, but you chose that job. That's why people come to you for help in the first place, you should be able to give that help. You have to be honest, empathetic and not ambiguous, so the person you're helping doesn't think that they are a waste of time. I know Hannah wasn't giving Porter much options, but regardless of Porter's good intentions (to me he's a good man that made a mistake) he was clearly unfit for that kind of problems (rape and suicide), he let her go. I'm not a psychiatrist so I don't know what to do on those cases, but you can't be so un-empathetic to say to a rape victim "move on". You need to try to help her some way, Porter could've pressure Hannah to talk because there was no other way to make a rapist pay, I don't know. I wouldn't let her go until everything was clear, specially after she practically said that she wanted to end her life. You can't just leave someone that is in that state of mind. I've noticed pain in Porter's look, but he didn't do anything to retain Hannah. Is not Hannah's fault that she was hoping for "a perfect encounter", is not totally Porter's either, but he wasn't mentally-ill, she was. And fyi, is not always that the mentally-ill person expect "a perfect encounter". I've seen a lot of psychiatrist without being depressed or without expecting anything and many have dissapointed me, because their actions *clearly* shown that they just didn't want to be there. Sorry the long comment, just wanted to make myself more clear :c
No need to apologize, I get you completely. I too go to a therapist regularly, so I understand what you are saying. My first therapist over time became less and less interested in helping me and that feeling that they didn't care was hurtful. Luckily my next one, who I'm still with is amazing and supportive and understanding. I think the main thing I was trying to get across is sometimes a bad interaction isn't really anyone's fault. I wasn't blaming Hannah just the same as I wasn't blaming Mr. Porter. Hannah wasn't being super helpful and her depression was limiting her ability to think clearly, and Mr. Porter clearly wasn't equipped to deal with the situation or the schools policies made it difficult. For all we know that could have been the first time a student has come to him about rape or suicide, and no matter how much you train, that can be incredibly difficult. The failed interaction between Hannah and Mr. Porter was the result of two good people falling short. I don't think it'd be right to blame either of them, because we are human, and a failure of outcome doesn't always mean a failure of people. Lastly, I didn't mean that a mentally-ill person always expects a perfect encounter. I meant Hannah at the moment was expecting a perfect encounter. She was on the edge and had a burst of hope and said "I'm gonna give life one more shot". I believe she went into that meeting with Mr. Porter expecting everything to be fixed, or at least to leave with everything on the path to being fixed.
I agree with you now, maybe I misunderstood hehe In a sense I don't "blame" Porter either, I just think he made a mistake, but he shouldn't "pay" for it. Hannah also made a mistake for going with high expectations and not seeking attention "the right way" (she was making things extremely difficult for Porter, but it's understandable in her situation). I think both made mistakes, but neither should be "blame" (in the sense of "paying for their mistakes"), although that doesn't mean they shouldnt' feel responsible to some extent or feel some kind of guilt. I mean, Porter should try to learn from that experience and try to be better (like Clay said), 'cause obviously Hannah can't, he should feel responsible for his actions, but that doesn't mean he should be judged or he's one of the worst humans ever. I think that's the whole point of Hannah's tapes: not blaming the people as the worst human beings, but make them feel some sort of empathy so hopefully they don't make the same mistake again. I think that's one of the lesson of the show.
If you haven't already, I think you are going to like Season 2 very much because of your thoughts on this topic. I know I did. Personally, Mr. Porter's episode in S2 really shook me to my core. I don't wanna spoil so I'll just say, definitely watch S2.
he remembered Alex standing up for him against Cole Montgomery when he had Tyler pinned to the wall then it showed him removing the photograph so I had assumed it meant he was taking Alex off the list
I was raped by my ex-boyfriend and it happened when I was sleeping and held me down. I'm still dealing with the trauma every day, still to this day. I had to avoid this series due to the content of it, but I did only watch season one because I felt alone and because at one point I thought of ending my life. When I watched the series, I felt less alone, because I know there are other sexual assault victims out there. I didn't end up ending my life thankfully, and it was because everyone blamed me for what my ex-boyfriend did to me and told me that it wasn't rape because he was my boyfriend and I was drunk. I never thought my ex would do this to me. Never. I truly trusted him. Rape is rape. Period. What people said towards me when I spoke out was brutal, but I learning how to heal, and not blame myself for what happened to me, more and more every day.

I almost looked away at THAT scene but then I noticed you didn’t put it in your reaction. I don’t blame you lol I probably wouldn’t have either. I rewatch the show all the time cuz it’s so damn powerful but I can never ever watch this episode again. Her parents reaction gets me every time. Thank you for a respectful video. I found out my teenage daughter watched this show without me knowing, so I did some research. The first video I watched, was these two guys making fun of it. I couldn’t believe it. I left them a not so great comment. Then I find yours. So thank you. New subscriber.
I got to watch the scene where she committed suicide. It was very graphic and very sad to watch. I used to be suicidal many, many years ago and I can understand why they deleted the scene. I also understand that some people want to see it. Either way, it's an eye opener on things going on in young adults lives. My heart goes out to anyone suffering suicidal thoughts. Please reach out to someone!! My heart also goes out to parents, family memebers, friends and loved ones who have found someone who has committed suicide. Much love to all. ❤
8:09 - Kate Walsh’s acting is so believable. She did a great job mixing in the trauma, denial, hope, and utter misery in just discovering her dead child. I really didn’t find it necessary for there to be 3 more subsequent seasons as 14 Reasons Why really started to drift into tangents about high school angst. Overall, the first season was very powerful and Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford did amazing in their respected acting roles. The best acting was most definitely this scene with Kate Walsh.
The first time I ever saw this scene I thought "why is everyone thinking this is so sad", even though I was suicidal for my whole life Now after my attempt, watching this was really hard, i actually started crying
@@meganishere can you send the link please? I just got into the series and I'm super pissed that I didn't get to see it because it makes sense to put it if the shows literally tells you not to watch if your going Through it

This is an amazing reaction bro. The series are incredible good and I just subscribed to your channel. I am on the last season and almost done with it but I’m balling like a baby.
As someone who saw the actual scene, it may have very well prevented me from the same. so.. lame move to remove it. When all you do is HEAR how to.. it sounds so easy, good thing OTH showed the truth in their scene of something similiar too. Shows who cares aboout showing the truth, shows that teach us something of morals and real stuff is the best
Same. Ima be honest though. It hit harder before they deleted the scene. It was very hard to watch and even brought me to tears and almost made me sick but I feel like it needs to be seen so people can understand how real it is. They took out any gruesome part where you see her do it to seeing the bloody water and even Clay directly saying she sat in the bathtub, grabbed the razor, slit her wrists and bled to death.
I had my little brother watched this show but the last time I watched this show was as it was coming out. So I seen the original scene before they removed it and didn't see it til I had my brother watch because he told me he told another kid at school to kill themselves. And I told him whether or not it's a joke. "kill yourself" is never a joke. So I figured him seeing that scene and the build up would make him learn but in my opinion seeing how much they removed from that scene was a joke. He told me he still didn't understand what he was supposed to learn from the show. Also being someone who used to be suicidal really made me mad because he has no idea what kind of things really build up to want to kill yourself is alot. And if he said that to someone who was at that point in their life. They'll do it. I know I probably would have. But thank God I'm so far from how I was then.
Everytime I feel like killing myself, I watch the scene where Hannah's mom finds her in the bathtub. I would never... could never do that to my mom and dad...
they got this piece originally on netflix. my opinion is a big mistake. because at the beginning there is information warning about this (or at least it was) and the scene clearly showed how much suffering such an act can bring
I don't know why she would say that clay hates her he was their for her the entire time unlike the others clay care about Hanna the most if he didn't then he never would have confessed on how he truly feels about her and to be honest I hate the the guy like he wasn't much help to her at all when she sad going through all that truma in her life
My dad killed himself as well when he was at work. I wish that I could have done more to help him and to be able to have provent that day ever happening
Bullying peer pressure can be hurtful and tragic to go thru I know I went thru bullying anti-semitism for four yrs in highschool and my school administration and teachers faculties did nothing to support me
8:03 when I watched the scene with Hannah in the bathtub I just stopped watching, I couldn't breath, and I put my phone away but I just have to finish it while i was feeling that way or I'm gonna be feeling that all over again
That's because they removed the full scene off Netflix. The original scene was her killing herself.. it showed the full scene of her in the tub slitting her wrists.. and when her body was found. It was removed off Netflix to be graphic and in the new scene it doesn't show it or show her body.
People give Mr. Porter a lot of shit, but It's mister not doctor. He's not a psychiatrist. He's a guidance counselor. His job is to get kids into college. He isn't trained to deal with people like hannah. Some schools have personal counselors as well as guidance counselors, but most schools can't afford both. He was in way over his head. He was wrong, but I don't blame him for Hannah's death.
No matter how you look at it, the way he approached it was stupid for any person to do. Telling a rape victim she "could move on" and "he'll be gone soon" kinda goes beyond just being clueless, even if they're true statements.
As a guidance counselor it is his job to counsel students, but still even though he isnt a qualified “doctor “ he should still know what to do for certain situations, like when a minor is being raped/abused/neglected,youre still responsible for referring them to another type of support (eg contacting parents, calling police, referring them to a clincal psychiatrist”. Its a teachers job to teach students, yet they are still responsible for looking after students much less minors.
And as someone who has been bullied and had suicidal tendencies through most of his childhood, i have heard this lame, cheap, easy and disgusting rationale 1000 times before. When your parents send you off to school give them to the educational system for most hours of the week teachers and the system they work in have a responsibility to the safety of kids and create a comfortable environment on the school grounds. Hard fact: Kids don't know how or are to scared to ask for help so they need people to listen in order to open up. But because most schools don't want a scandal on their hands they tend to look the other way when situations like this arise. "See no evil, hear no evil": That is basically what Porter's mentality has been here. And i've seen it over and over throughout my youth.
They should have stopped making this show at season 1. It was enough. It was true to the book and did what it needed to do. The rest of it was just to make more money because the first season did so well.
Karen Griffith you don’t need to get smart with me I just asked a damn question. I just thought it would of been great if he was showing this video he would show that. So don’t get smart with me telling me to educate myself or any kind of crap

I agree with you now, maybe I misunderstood hehe
In a sense I don't "blame" Porter either, I just think he made a mistake, but he shouldn't "pay" for it.
When mama shaking... speechless
Hope you´re better now. You´re really strong, I´m with you ❤🩹
The part where Hannah's mom finds out her dead body is taken out a bit rn... Like her body isn't clearly seen anymore
I noticed that too. It pisses me off.
@@LuckyOlivia44 I’m happy it could be a trigger
@@melissa87606 people who know that they are suicidal and easily triggered shouldn’t be watching a show about suicide then. Ffs what is with CODDLING EVERYONE
Mandela effect: when clay gives porter the tapes and walks away I remember seeing a bunch of sheets in his room fly off his desk and into the air.... not a lot of ppl remember them but I do... it’s a Mandela effect too
I almost looked away at THAT scene but then I noticed you didn’t put it in your reaction. I don’t blame you lol I probably wouldn’t have either. I rewatch the show all the time cuz it’s so damn powerful but I can never ever watch this episode again. Her parents reaction gets me every time. They definitely leave it open for season 2 which I my opinion was really good.
The scene doesn't exist in the show anymore
Netflix took that scene down from Netflix cuz of to many parents complaining about it
Kate Walsh's acting truly is spectacular
Thank you for a respectful video. I found out my teenage daughter watched this show without me knowing, so I did some research. The first video I watched, was these two guys making fun of it. I couldn’t believe it. I left them a not so great comment. Then I find yours. So thank you. New subscriber.
lmao was it from the channel Pretty Much It?
Rhiannon Elizabeth Chapman actually, the channel is called debates on camera
8:30 I cried, this is so sad
13 reasons why gave me reasons to not do what Hannah did
The first time I ever saw this scene I thought "why is everyone thinking this is so sad", even though I was suicidal for my whole life
Now after my attempt, watching this was really hard, i actually started crying
Porter did really let her down, then again she was scared and didn’t think she would be scared!
She froze. It’s more common than saying no.
Unpopular opinion: Today’s parents weren’t ready to face reality. That’s why they cried for the scene to be removed.
It broke
Me when she said she needed life to stop
When Hannah's mom found her I broke
"She is ok, she is ok ..."
*NO, SHE IS NOT OK RIGHT?* damn it
Thats an normal reaction I think...she first won't believe she's dead until the Truth slowly creeps into her head
8.08 you know whats the worst thing? That there are people who come home to that scene.
That wasn't the full death scene it was longer
Saskeia Plays he’s not gonna show all of it you can’t show the death on youtube
@@MatthewMossa the video of her dying is on RUclips
Saskeia Plays yeah bc the people who uploaded that had permission and payed for it and he didn’t
@@meganishere can you send the link please? I just got into the series and I'm super pissed that I didn't get to see it because it makes sense to put it if the shows literally tells you not to watch if your going Through it

Now, nobody will know how rude was THAT scene when Hannah kills herself. Man, I got shocked when I saw it, and now, that scene is removed...
rude???
@@omranhaddadin5262 I mean hard, tough...
show aside, your reaction videos are actually really well done. i like how you arent talking throughout the entire thing drowning out the show youre reacting to
I watched every season every episode. Such a hard but eye opening show to watch
The day I watched this episode i cried because of hannah in the bathtube and alex standall shooting himself in the head
now i understand why they deleted this scene i was shocked when i saw this because i knew i was ready to see it after all these years of bulling.
It’s been years and Olivia’s reaction always gets me so bad
This is an amazing reaction bro. The series are incredible good and I just subscribed to your channel. I am on the last season and almost done with it but I’m balling like a baby.
As someone who saw the actual scene, it may have very well prevented me from the same. so.. lame move to remove it. When all you do is HEAR how to.. it sounds so easy, good thing OTH showed the truth in their scene of something similiar too. Shows who cares aboout showing the truth, shows that teach us something of morals and real stuff is the best
8:00 this break my heart all the time
You know they had to edit the water so you couldn’t see the blood and instead she didn’t try and pick her up
Hardest scene I’ve ever watched
I loved watching this. I just found your channel. I love your reactions to things. Thanks for posting this.
It has got to that point for me until this stopped me doing that
That's actually not a bad idea, thanks for sharing...
Man I can't stop crying watching dis 13RW
My mom told me to not watch this because my mental health issues
they got this piece originally on netflix. my opinion is a big mistake. because at the beginning there is information warning about this (or at least it was) and the scene clearly showed how much suffering such an act can bring
I don't know why she would say that clay hates her he was their for her the entire time unlike the others clay care about Hanna the most if he didn't then he never would have confessed on how he truly feels about her and to be honest I hate the the guy like he wasn't much help to her at all when she sad going through all that truma in her life
2:37
Yeah you did first episode
My dad killed himself as well when he was at work. I wish that I could have done more to help him and to be able to have provent that day ever happening
Bullying peer pressure can be hurtful and tragic to go thru I know I went thru bullying anti-semitism for four yrs in highschool and my school administration and teachers faculties did nothing to support me
The girl is cat her old bff
What
There was not 1 episode i did not cry in
8:03 when I watched the scene with Hannah in the bathtub I just stopped watching, I couldn't breath, and I put my phone away but I just have to finish it while i was feeling that way or I'm gonna be feeling that all over again
Your reactions are EXACTLY the same as mine TwT
I like your reactions :) start watching the Vikings, it is the best show :)
Love watching your reactions !!!!! ❤️
I Love this Show
Hannah Baker Deserved Better
I miss Hannah and Justin So much😢😢😢😢😢
It's anoying that you don't get to see her kill herself. It's actually part off the series
That part is get copyrighted by Netflix, and also, has been removed from the original episode.
It’s on the dvd for this season.
Wait what the heck when I watched Hannahs parents walk in it never actually showed her body in the tub just her head
That's because they removed the full scene off Netflix. The original scene was her killing herself.. it showed the full scene of her in the tub slitting her wrists.. and when her body was found. It was removed off Netflix to be graphic and in the new scene it doesn't show it or show her body.
@@MeliLovesAPurpleDino kind of frustrated with that , it was such a meaningful scene...
Can't wait for season 3!!! Coming soon!!!
I cried so much
It got to this point for me as well but chose to not take my life
I know this is old but I have to ask. Was this watch and recorded before or after Netflix removed the scene?
Before
It’s Kate Walsh from greys anatomy omg
@@mysticruin6043 17 minutes ago
havok6280 you don’t need qualifications to realise that telling a rape victim to just move on isn’t right at all.
Wait did the show change the scene, because i rewatched the episode yesterday and the scene where they found her was different
Well I guess not seeing Justin ever again made him die
(i make jokes instead of expressing proper emotions so dont attack me)
PFFT HAH! hannahs mum walking in on her dead daughter like oh👁👄👁 okay👌
grow up
She was shocked
Hi dude. Thanks so much for your upload. If you want to, and if you haven't seen it yet, please consider reacting to VIKINGS and GAME OF THRONES 🖤
That episode
They should have stopped making this show at season 1. It was enough. It was true to the book and did what it needed to do. The rest of it was just to make more money because the first season did so well.
no
Why did you skip scenes, you skip when she walked the hallway one last time
... he prob didn’t say anything or had a crazy reaction- buddy educate yourself how RUclips works... can’t just show scenes for free
Karen Griffith you don’t need to get smart with me I just asked a damn question. I just thought it would of been great if he was showing this video he would show that. So don’t get smart with me telling me to educate myself or any kind of crap
Wtf are all the jump cuts for
anybody know where you can get the full episodes for free??????
You could watch it for free on an app called cyrose hd
Wait so if Bryce was a senior what year was Hannah in ????? I don’t get American grades I’m from the uk 😂😂😂
she was a junior (11th grade) along with clay
When Clay said Bryce walker it was tooo late but ok
Alex shot himself that caused him to do that. One thing after another.
Do you think this episode will get blocked? I kinda wanna wait for episode 12 first but kinda wanna just watch this while is here... :/
