Mustie1, you may never read this but I found your channel six days ago and have watched 19 hours of your passion for this work. Our family has driven many Volkswagen's. We, a family of five, even went from the midwest to California one summer in a poptop, and did it again the next year but went to Florida this time right when Elvis died.
I can hear the guys who put bondo over the sandpaper talking to one another, "...no one will every know." I think something's wrong with me, I'm starting to LIKE the air grinder. :>)
Bob G Yeah didn't remember the name WV use to have a layer of thin polystyrene foam samwiched between the layers then spay adhesive holding it down I guess for thermal thanks
That was better 3DHD Mustie the hammering made it so much more nice work saved the wires and the paint yeah I give a pat but my arms arn't long enough, looking very professional and them mice are not going to like it now looking forward the rest thanks....
for cushion material.. try finding a carwash that's getting redone... many times they get alot of scrap felt that is used to cushion equipment sent in.
Try cutting up an old timing belt for the tank strap protectors- smooth side on the tank. Did that years ago on my VW Caddy bakkie (pick up) and still holding.
I think it'd be great to have a vented door where the battery sits, lifts up, with lock hinge, chrome twist lock knob. You know what I mean? Like an RV would have.
Just when you think you've seen it all... Remember back when a few viewers called your work "shade tree"? LOL, Find the guy who fiberglassed over those wires and send them his way.
Awesome job! This is a good example of your patience. I would have used multiple curse words and probably would have thrown the flashlight across the garage. GL & HH my friend, Brian
Seems common that batteries cause so much rust and corrosion. After so much restoration work on trays, surprised no one uses boat battery cases to protect things in the future.
The problem is water falls down from the top vents in the bus, and gets trapped under the battery / charcoal canister. adding something like a boat battery case would actually add to the problem. (I just cleaned out my battery bay in my bus and did a similar repair)
bike inertube over the straps to pad them on the tank strips of bike tire under it the tread lets the air breathe through keeping contact rust to a minimum
Not sure why everyone acts like everything is so hard to do with their left hand, it's my right one that is basically worthless when it comes to doing coordinated stuff. :)
It went back to the tent garage while he's working on this project. That's why he wanted to get all the bare metal covered in primer before this project came in.
I was just the 278th person that liked this. And one person did not like it. I am guessing... That one person has a car that does not have a battery????? :)
That was a very "mice" job, mustie1, and "miceley" done! ;-) Sometimes I wonder if there is anything without rodents in your home town/state? They seem to be everywhere!? By the way: Do you think or know if some cats would help to solve the problem around your house? Or at least support your efforts to get rid of the rodents? Anyway: Have a "mice" day! ;-)
There is other way to get rid of all that dust and rat deposits, please use vacuum its healthier and safer, breathing animals contaminated dust will cause serious health issue, we like you more healthy.
Look at what the VW was reduced to in 1968 Brazil lol jalopnik.com/brazils-depression-created-one-of-the-most-stripped-out-1794305512 Maybe you can copy one :)
This is unrelated to your video, but what model is your floor lift? and are you happy with it? Thanks!
ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=u74fRvM7NcA this is older but covers that lift too

Lights are amazing....don't break them.
Good solid repairs speak for themselves.
Top notch repair job . I would have ruined the paint for sure if I did that . I beat the owner will be very pleased :)
This is the best bus for me,I love him. What I don´t like are the american lights on the side.
I was rooting for the light to come back on.
I can hear the guys who put bondo over the sandpaper talking to one another, "...no one will every know." I think something's wrong with me, I'm starting to LIKE the air grinder. :>)
it's nice you been making more videos lately 👍
Another great *"3am apartment building"* video. Thanks, Man!
just a thought mustie , I have used 2inch wide black Velcro stips under gas tanks and straps.
Haha, my new motto: let the beatings begin. I've got to do this n mine, thanks for the heads up,
Hey Mustie they make a roofing patch with with peeling aheasive backing very simular to stock VW Just remembered that I used for same thing
Richard Warnock Ice and water seal.
Bob G Yeah didn't remember the name WV use to have a layer of thin polystyrene foam samwiched between the layers then spay adhesive holding it down I guess for thermal thanks
Nice work and you don't call yourself a body man...fooled me!
That was better 3DHD Mustie the hammering made it so much more nice work saved the wires and the paint yeah I give a pat but my arms arn't long enough, looking very professional and them mice are not going to like it now looking forward the rest thanks....
Love the videos! But maybe use the shopvac instead of the blower to clean up? :-)
Nice work. Are you treating to prevent battery acid fume corrosion?
for cushion material.. try finding a carwash that's getting redone... many times they get alot of scrap felt that is used to cushion equipment sent in.
WOW THAT IS GOOD YOU ARE THE MAN
Nice work . . . ;) Rog
Good vid bro, would strips of truck mud flap work under the fuel tank as a buffer. All the best
The good old fine alignment tool the BFH Big freaking hammer ; )
Try cutting up an old timing belt for the tank strap protectors- smooth side on the tank. Did that years ago on my VW Caddy bakkie (pick up) and still holding.
Perhaps a thin rubber doormat for the gas tank isolation?
I was totally impressed when i saw the battery pan he made.... Then it dawned on me... Its store bought.
Hittin' it from the backside! Ooooh yeahhhh!
Mustie could you get an industrial truck tire innertube and cut to fit the bottom of the gas tank? Would it provide protection and shock absorption?
Great vid! I'll be doing my tray next week. Exactly what kind of seam sealer did you use? Thanks!
do you ever use por 15 to prevent rust.
I think it'd be great to have a vented door where the battery sits, lifts up, with lock hinge, chrome twist lock knob. You know what I mean? Like an RV would have.
Perfect job for a needle scaler. Do you have one?
yes but not when the other side is painted
Where do you get the seam-sealer? Specialty body supply place? Thanks!
nice fix!
Just when you think you've seen it all... Remember back when a few viewers called your work "shade tree"? LOL, Find the guy who fiberglassed over those wires and send them his way.
Cool
Looks like the ceiling isn't the only thing that is getting switched over the LEDs
Awesome job! This is a good example of your patience. I would have used multiple curse words and probably would have thrown the flashlight across the garage.
GL & HH my friend,
Brian
Oh My Eyes. Headlight RUclipsr Blinds Millions,,,!!
When do you choose the plasma cutter over a whiz wheel, and why. Is it an access issue?
yeah space, and if l need a clean cut

Why not seal between the panels before welding?
you need to have clean metal, plus if you seal both ends with seam sealer nothing will get in and rust, just like the factory did it,
Not sure why everyone acts like everything is so hard to do with their left hand, it's my right one that is basically worthless when it comes to doing coordinated stuff. :)
Hey you said you get mad. I feel better cause I always get mad (irritated) LOL!
Another time when you're welding- you could slip one of those old light glass over the camera, film the weld.
l tried but the camera would not focus
do you have 1978 ford Bronco tailgate
What happened to the double cab?
It went back to the tent garage while he's working on this project. That's why he wanted to get all the bare metal covered in primer before this project came in.
what he said
bus wiring, trapped in amber. ha ha.
cool
nice

No..... Mice,with an "M".
mustie I need rear apron and luggage floor done and wheel wells done front right section by the heater channel
I was just the 278th person that liked this. And one person did not like it. I am guessing... That one person has a car that does not have a battery????? :)
Hard to cut rust with a plasma cutter isn't it .
Rust is the worst!
it would be nice if you were to rebuild the whole van out of stainless steel!
That was a very "mice" job, mustie1, and "miceley" done! ;-) Sometimes I wonder if there is anything without rodents in your home town/state? They seem to be everywhere!? "It's dead Jim"
I want to invest in your company I want to buy some stock
Can you show the brand of seam sealer you use?
3m, but if l remember l will
wow look out for trouble o.k
i can remember a VW mechanic telling me 40+ years ago that a Beer can is 16 gauge metal and a VW is 18 gauge metal , Just saying
Well, he was a little off considering that 16ga steel is about 1.5mm thick, and would make one hell of a heavy beer can. :-)
l think he was pulling your leg,
Yeah, I did put in a smiley. You just can't be sure with YT comments.
l was replying to big paddy lol,
Ha!
I think you are suppost to "hack the old trey out with a hatchet" ala crusties 1st replacement.
Need to change your name to Rustie1 lol
you kill the light mean light is dead
I think I would use strips of bike inner tube to pad the gas tank straps.
There is other way to get rid of all that dust and rat deposits, please use vacuum its healthier and safer, breathing animals contaminated dust will cause serious health issue, we like you more healthy.
You do realize that while you hammer your beating the heck out of your camera?
too late but yes
Look at what the VW was reduced to in 1968 Brazil lol jalopnik.com/brazils-depression-created-one-of-the-most-stripped-out-1794305512 Maybe you can copy one :)
Would a gel type sealed battery(like four wheelers use off road) stop the outgassing vapors that wet batteries cause?
nice
