I could see the prob right off the bat, its your man bun and ear pieces...just kidding I am a retired heavy duty tech and also did a lot of semi tractor builds and currently restoring my 68 Z/28 Camaro I have had on the back burner for 40 yrs.Believe me I feel your pain and you are doing an EXCELLENT job. I subscribed and liked keep the faith and " become one with the VW ". One of the cool things I noticed is your shop is very clean and that deserves a thumbs up itself :)
Thanks for the comment. I try to keep my shop clean but it could be so much more well organized. I’m slowly working on it as it makes the project go by smoother when you can actually find your tools! Cheers and thanks for the sub
hope you did not take offense about your man bun guess I am jealous because my hair decided to leave a few years ago lol also I forgot to compliment the tip over jig it looks outstanding and do you have a build video for that.
I always hit the like button before I watch your videos. I always watch your videos from start to finish. I always love your videos. … And while you are at Harbor Fright, get yourself a sand blaster. You might need one. 😜
6:04 u could also clamp your funky green panel to the bus and use a 1 mm cutting disk or a reciprocating air saw and cut through both panels at once. the cutting disk will provide the perfect gap for a buttweld. Oh and don't worry about the gap u had this happens, if u can step across it u can weld across it.
@@Vangabondershey buddy I’ve got a 1976 tin top with a fuel injection where can I look to see what size motor I have and also I have a cot of sumsort but I have no idea where I can use it
Mine is a 78 with a 72hp 1970cc EFI engine. This is standard for 76-79. I believe the "cot" you speak of has mounting tabs that are above the driver and passenger seats on the pillars. A small child can sleep there or you can use it for storage.
Let me tell you, that spot welder is so heavy, sometimes I opt for the mig welder instead. It is still nice to have it available for the times when its easy. Ive been waiting for this episode all weekend :)
Hi there! You're really doing a fantastic job! I drive a 71' named "Larry" and he's got that damn rust driverside were the windshield meets the nose, which i guess isn't that bad considering i live in Massachusetts 😅😅😅😅! I'm learning alot from you (it's not like my husband will let me even hold the welder) i think it's super important for women to know everything they can about the REALLY old Bus & vdub vert they own 😉 Larry also has his own stickers the lil ones love them @car shows! So, i wanna pop one in the mail for you & I'm going to buy a sweatshirt too! Keep up the great work, I'll be watching!!!
Thank you for a great video that you explain what you are doing WHILE you are doing it. It makes for a much better video. AND no stupid music. Thank you!
As always, your thorough approach to removing rust and carefully fitting replacement parts impresses me very much. I don't have a VW Campervan but your channel and Brandon's Bus are compulsive viewing for me. Thank you.
Just binge watched all 58 episodes in a couple of days! Looking forward to the next episode. Subscribed. Definitely gives me the inspiration needed to get back to work on my 1972 bus, will definitely be making that roll over jig. Thanks. 😀
Great video! You have inspired me (a handy person with no experience restoring cars) to restore a 1971 Super Beetle! I have Episode 1 up and running! Almost 600 views in 6 days!
If you haven't already, you may want to shine a bright light behind the quarter panel just to make sure that the big gap has been fully welded. Thanks for another great video!!
When it comes to details and thoroughness, you got it! No generalizations for your project here. We in the VW like mind world, do the same. Your work in details is very enjoyable to watch and listen. You have a great narrator voice. That really makes a big difference for me👍when it comes to listening to some one for over 15 minutes. Thnx for the videos!
I have literally watched hundreds of welding videos, and yours are right up there at the top, along with your narration and explanations. Doesnt hurt that I have a bus needing many of these repairs, too. :)
hey! sorry for not being there for the live stream, for freshman year i got accepted in to percussion ensemble and i have band camp this week so i was not there Saturday morning to watch the stream but i should be able to be there on the next one. but great video! looking forward for more.
Good job! I have had the battery tray go in easier when the corner is in but sometimes it is easier to do the tray first than the corner. I have done every repair you have done in this video and more, and you are doing a great job.
I have the same area to repair after 12:44. I bought a donor window section, and I bent metal in a brake as I did not know about the heritage center. D'OHH. Thank you for posting, I feel I am going to be ready when the time comes to do this repair (this year).
Brilliant work! watching this series of vids has pushed me to buy some panels for my bus to try and get it back on the road, but I need to get my other projects done so I can make space indoors to weld out of the weather :)
I recently found your channel and have unashamedly binged this whole series over the last week or so - been awesome to see your skill and confidence grow each episode! Keep it up. You are giving me a kick to finish up the minor jobs I’ve got going on my ‘65 Beetle - and buy a welder!
Glad I stumbled on this channel. Love watching Metal work done on these old cars. Always pick up some great tips. When welding a large gap sometimes it is helpful to put a chuck of copper behind the weld if you can. Weld won't stick to it and it dissipates heat. But of course sometimes you can't do that if you don't have access. Keep up the vids. Love them.
ehh.. I ll be that guy😂.. this is a cut and fit butt welding.. nevertheless nice project and video👌 //cut and butt always involves cutting the 2 panels overlapped and then removing the residue from behind which must have been a pain in this case I understand.
I use to work in a ship yard welding together thick metal plates… sometimes the gaps we had would be around an inch! Granted I could pour as much heat on it as I wanted but seeing you bridge together sheet metal like that is some pro stuff! Keep up the great work!
I'm working on a 64 Bug now, but at one time had a 58 VW panel, no brakes, but drove' similar to yours. Am looking forward to another VW bus, van, panel, whatever! Love your work/ Awesome series!
Hi, new to the chanel and happy to support! You inspire me to get mack into some rust repair on my 1980 Westie! Ive done a lot, but have a long way to go!
So nice all those hight quality parts for the type 2. For my LT there are only some cheap outside plates available. Oh well.. at least I have your videos as motivation to start welding asap. First a welding course and then find a spot to weld :D
Ah, I missed these vids 🙂

Great Vid 🤘🏼. Why is it with restorations, it's so frustrating at the time but satisfying when you complete each section. Keep at it Bro.

Nice 👍
Never knew about plug welding, now I got a new tool. Thank you!
Outstanding!
Your Bus is looking great .
You're doing great work. I thought you posted every Sunday as well.
I’m a little behind right now but doing my best to keep the videos consistent! Thanks for the comment 😊
Why are the panels called rockers?

Nice. Have you tried cleco clamps for lining up panels reliably? Really inexpensive and work great.
Way to go Kris! It is going to be satisfying to see that entire section done. You are getting close to having the cleanest bus around.
Looks like your bringing back a $100,000 VW van, can't wait to see you driving her
I admire your endurance. keep on going!
Thank you, I will

Bro looks awesome thanks for putting these videos together I’ve got a similar restore but only in the bottom rockers and fenders n nose piece
Coming along nicely!!! Thanks for the inspiration for me to keep on restoring my 1979 VW bus 😎
Glad I could help inspire you! That’s one of the main reason I make these videos

If you have bigger gaps, try to use a piece of copper from behind the gap. It is easier to weld then
How did you set up your weldding machine?
