    You are the best! You really know what you're talking about! I have been running for over 25 years, plus I've worked at shoe stores. Some just push insoles because it's an extra $60 per sale. Others just push certain shoes. I agree! Pronation is a natural part of the run! Super Job! You should be a guest at a lot of running race booths. You would help many people!

    Great content, I'll be going to Pace Rozelle next time I'm buying. I get frustrated at the lack of knowledge at Athlete's Foot and other stores that aren't staffed by runners (e.g. confusing heel drop with stack height etc).

    Watched this when it came out been thinking about it since, helpful video. I’d be keen for your thoughts on how should a shoe feel for different types of runs.

    • @SotaMaehara
      @SotaMaehara  6 месяцев назад +1

      I’ll probs answer in more detail on another vid but comfort and fit are still the most important.
      The interesting thing is, most people prefer more cushioning for longer runs
      But that makes a shoe heavier sometimes, so I love super lightweight shoes like the Rebel v3 for long runs. So it definitely depends

    good vid. running channels don't talk about this enough, imo. if you're running every day, seems bad to always put stress on the same places. i use a mixture of stacks and drops

    What type of shoe would you recommend for me?
    I have knee pain and plantar fasciitis. I have low arches and fore striker.

    • @SotaMaehara
      @SotaMaehara  6 месяцев назад

      Depends where on the knee but I reckon shoes won’t be the magical thing that solve that. You’ll probs definitely need a few pairs to rotate though
      And definitely depending on where and what type of knee pain, specific strength training for that will help too
      Can only give general advice as I have very little info to work with! But feel free to DM me on Instagram if you want to pick my brains a little more

    Happy new year ! Sota do you have experience with Ride 17 or Triumph? I want to buy a max cushion shoe, and this two shoes are 99% the same. only the drop is different. I have shin splints all the time and decided it s time to get a max cushion shoe.

    • @SotaMaehara
      @SotaMaehara  6 месяцев назад +1

      The only difference is the price and the heel drop from the looks of it. I can’t really compare because I’ve only had the old models of either shoe (Triumph 20 and Ride 13)
      Back then the Ride had a firmer foam, and the Triumph had a softer foam, but they seem similar now from online reviews
      I don’t think this decision will affect you too much, and if anything it might even be worth just getting the cheaper shoe and then rotating it with another cheap but good shoe that works a different part of the leg
      If you have shin splints, shoes can help, but doing strength exercises that work the plantarflexors will be much more beneficial!

      @@SotaMaehara thank you for the thorough answer Sota! :) Yeah you were literally speaking about cushioning in general on the video :D and I jumped on it, but missed your point, because I literally cant run now and feels like max cushion is now my only hope.
      Btw this video was very well put together and very informative.
      regarding shin splits, I think something has changed in my stride and dont know what :/ I have to loose weight, cause running wise I am fat at the moment.

      I've used Triumph 20 and Ride 15 so they are not the most recent versions but I wanted to share my experience as it ties to this video.
      Triumph has a narrower platform, bouncy foam and high drop. This means that I had to learn how to properly plant my foot on the ground so that I wouldn't roll off the platform sideways, and not fight the foam by avoiding overstriding and increasing cadence. I feel high drop much more in that shoe compared to the others as you sink quite far into the foam before you bounce back. This means that your knees work hard at first to cushion the impact and then suddenly the foam bounces back up and this hits the knee before it is ready to spring you up. I had a lot of knee pain initially after the runs but I managed to get over it.
      On the other hand, Ride 15 has PwrRun foam with PwrRun+ sockliner. This means that the foam is stiffer and you wouldn't have as much of that bounce back effect like in Triumph 20. The sink-in and bounce-back combo was restricted only to the sockliner made of the same material as in the Triumph which in my case made it great right out of the box. That tied together with lower drop and wider platform made running much easier for me. Platform is a bit difficult to explain on the internet but you need to take time and see what is your sweet spot for how wide it needs to be. You can take a look at photos of different models from the top view and see how they differ from one another. It will give you a decent feel of what you can expect in terms of feeling planted after you land and roll through it. In the case of Triumph vs Ride, not only is the platform wider in mid/forefoot of Ride 15 but also lower drop makes you feel more planted and less leaned over into the next step compared to the sensation in Triumph 20. In my case, running in Ride 15 was less stressful as I didn't have to fight it at all because it does very little other than planting you down securely with little but just the right amount of cushion.
      Based on what I saw for the most recent models, if I had to pick one, I would pick Ride 17 as it seems to be a wider Triumph with a (supposedly) bit firmer version of PwrRun+ midsole. Although, one of the reviewers managed to tear the lace loop almost immediately. The new model is also quite heavy which might limit it to easier, shorter daily runs. Fortunately, Saucony has this thing where they release a major change in one of the models and they will revisit that shoe even the same year with an update that addresses the most frequently raised issues. I feel that this will happen to Ride 17 as they changed almost everything about that shoe so I believe they will revise it shortly with improved lace loops and reduced weight. I have Triumph and Ride already so I can a bit more for Ride 18 and Triumph 22 :)
      To sum it up, if you could use a bit more stability from a wider platform, Ride might be a safer bet. These models are right now quite similar with the same foam in Triumph 21 and Ride 17 on paper but you should still try them both if possible and make your own mind by feeling them on your foot. I'm just a random dude, you do you :) Good luck and have fun!
