GOAT tweener has to be Noosa Tri 14! also got mine after watching your review of that shoe last year. Effortless running, don't have to focus on how you are striking or your form etc. Perfect grab and go shoe! I even went so far last year and did a 3:18 marathon in them.
My tweener shoe has been the Saucony Speed 3s. They've withstood my long runs (22+ miles), speed workouts, and everything in between. And they're still holding up after logging well over 500 miles on them.
My favorite shoe as well….Absolutely love it…However, I’m a little concerned with the durability….the outside rubber on both heels are showing lots of wear after about 90 miles….Which is a little disappointing considering the rest of the shoe looks and feels like it could go for 500.
QD: Tweener shoe for me is the Noosa Tri 14. Bought on your recommendation and mainly use for daily, tempo and also intervals. Tbh I even often use them for easy days. I find it hard to grab a different shoe these days unless it's wet out.
My favorite "tweener" shoe of the last six months is the Asics Novablast 3. It does a good job from easy to hard and short to long runs. I just retired them after 400 miles and plan to pick up another pair when they go on sale later this year.
QD: #1 tweener shoe for me would be the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. That shoe is good at everything. Speed, daily, easy, race… you can pretty much do it all in that shoe.
Seth, I know you are awesome and that I can trust you when I buy a pair of shoes on my own just to try them and I categorize those shoes in my head after 5 or so runs. Then your Matrix comes out and you put that same shoe in the exact same spot that I put it. I love your Shoe Matrix. It has really helped me get back into running after decades away from the sport. You are much appreciated!
QD: My favorite Tweener is the Superblast. It can really do almost anything I need to. Daily, Long, Easy, even bringing up the pace a little bit. I love it!
QD: Mach 5! Easy, Daily, Tempo, Long and you can even race a marathon if you don't want a plate. Love having such a snappy, yet smooth ride with no plate. Also has an epic lockdown. That and Speed 3 are the two road shoes I use by far the most.
QD: The Altra Escalante 3 has impressed me a lot over the last few months! It's a tweener to me because I didn't expect to get daily miles and great tempo/track miles out of it. Small, light, and fast if your feet/ankles are up to it!
Love these vlogs!! I also can’t believe it’s already May! QD: it is between the Noosa 14 and the NovaBlast 3. Those two shoes are so versatile. Your love for Saucony is my love for Asics. 😂
Saucony wiping the board almost! Just bought some Triumph 20s and I must say they are soft but also feel pretty snappy compared to what I’m used to. I can’t imagine how much quicker I would move wearing a plated version..;
My tweener is definitely my endorphin speed 2. I use it for my race days ranging from 5k to 15k . I also love it's responsiveness on my tempo days. I don't know how you read my mind Seth but I was just about to pop on for a review and saw your matrix post!! Great timing
I might pull the trigger on triumph 20's even though they're 160. Your reviews of the 18 and 19 were good. Too expensive at 150 and too heavy. The 20 increased the stack heigh but got lighter. I liked my 18's I got on sale. No use waiting for a sale on the heavier 19's, but I might go for the cheaper novablast 3's instead. Maybe even the speed 2's which I don't like, but they're fast, versatile, and last so long.
Great vid Seth. I remember watching your first video two years back while checking out the runners knot. Since then I’ve watched your vids and do swear by your picks- whether it’s saucony endorphins pro / speed / triumph 20 / Salomon/ NB etc. All great picks. Keep a going.
QD.... surprisingly, after all the less than rave reviews and lack of fanfare, I very much enjoy the Nike Zoom Fly 5 as a bit of a tweener/do it all shoe. Its just one I find myself picking up more than I expected for those daily to tempo runs. I also have the SC Trainer and find it better suited for my easy to "steezy" pace runs. I def agree with you about the More V4 being may fav easy/recovery day shoe. Cheers!
QD: I am currently using the Kinvara 13 as a tweener, and it's relatively new to my current rotation. I loved previous Kinvara iterations (really light, fit right out of the box, etc.), but they only tended to last about 200 miles per pair. I made other shoe selections for this reason, but I am hoping for better durability results this time around.
Tweener show was just my daily/long run/longer race shoe was the Hoka Mach 5. Race was a 25 mile trail run on a route that didn’t need a dedicated trail shoe. I put over 500 miles in them through 22/23
Saucony is crushing it, taking 4/5 categories. I really want a pair of Novablast 3s, but I'm seriously considering the Triumph 20 based on your review.
Great video! My current rotation: Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 for easy Brooks Glycerin 20 for daily Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 for tempo Nike Vaporfly Next% 2 for threshold Saucony Triumph 20 for long I've also been considering picking up the Nike Streakfly for interval runs where I don't want to spike up. It would be interesting to see you add a category like this to your future matrices!
I don't get all the qualifiers for the Kinvara. It has 27mm of stack - something that would have been considered max cushion two years ago. I ran 2 marathons in the Kinvara 9, which has 19mm of forefoot stack!
I use to run in Hoka Carbons X2 and Rockets. But switched to the Noosa Tri 14s after your review. Love them for longer distances, 60k race coming up. Love them. For faster stuff - Not such a fan. But hoping they’ll help me move to the Magic speeds for half marathon races (70.3). If you could explain the difference between magic speed edge and sky, I would be so happy! Thanks. Love the content.
How many saucony in this list! I can understand, i love them. I am using Triumph 20 for easy days and longer distances and endorphin speed 2 when i want to be faster and for the race. Incredibile combination. I'm looking for another pair of Speed 2 but it's not easy to find. Hope that Speed 3 could be a good option to replace them.
QOD: without a doubt Novablast 3. What a a shoe ! Easy + Daily but have done tempo stuff in it. - need to retire my current tempo day shoe and thinking of the endorphin speed 3 so I'm glad it made it into your matrix. 😁 i have the pro 3 as my race day shoe so hoping the speed 3 will be a nice compliment to it.
Thank you for this video! I tried to absorb as much info as possible. Just signed up for our first half marathon that's happening in Feb 2025. Trying to find our tweener shoes because we do daily, long, tempo runs (is that even a thing?!) and we also can't tolerate high drop shoes. if you see this and have any recommendations, it would be so appreciated!
Great video! Excited for he next matrixes! Are you going to review the NNormal Kjerag for the trail shoes? Feels like the hottest trail show of the year
Tweener? Novablast 3, have 300 miles on this puppy and still responsive, comfy, bouncy, and stable enough for long, ez recovery, or interval repeat workouts.
QD: Have been using the Kinvaras (12 & now 13) as tweeners for almost 2 years now. I use them for everything but easy days, including for racing. I keep one pair to only use for racing/fast paced runs to keep the mileage down and use another pair for long runs and daily training. Really hard to beat the value for the price, especially when you can get the previous year's model heavily discounted. This year I might finally shell out some $$ for some better racing shoes for the Detroit Marathon!
It's gonna be interesting to get your review on trail shoes.I have been watching the cocosona 250 In looking up the shoes that the pros are wearing and I was happy to see some altra shoes. I personally love Them. Looking forward to it
Which pair would you recommend for someone who hasn't run in over 20 years, is over 40, has size 13/2E-W New Balance 643 shoes that are over 20 years old, and just wants to not die of exhaustion because of the choice of running shoes NOT the running?
All my shoes are tweeners still, because I've yet to really find what I need and what I like in a shoe, and it seems to change too. I usually do prefer a lighter shoe with low stack height, even if my feet are hurting after a long run. But that leads me to often use my tempo shoes on my daily runs and long runs too.
My current rotation: Daily trainer Hoka Mach 4, Tempo shoe Hoka Rincon 3 Raceday shoe Hoka Carbon X, Tweener shoe Nike Pegasus 40.I have a pair of ASICS Novablast 3's at my daughter's house in California for when I'm visiting.
I bought extra pairs of the Endorphin Speed 2 (as the Speed 3 didn't look as good to me)...but I've almost run these out now. Next up, filling that hole is the ASICS Magic Speed 2, I hope it works for me!
Any tips on a shoe for wide feet? I haven't run for two years due to illness, but back then I was loving NB 1080 V11 in a wide fit for daily, easy and tempo. I only switched for intervals and races. I like a firm feel in contact with the ground, rather than soft. Apparently NB have ruined the 1080 by making it super soft now, so I'm stuck.
Hi Seth! I just ran the paris marathon using the PRO 3 and I am running the Chicago Marathon in October. I am tempted to run with the Elite or switching completely and go Alphafly 2. What do you think for a guy that isn’t that fast 😓 I am hoping to do a 3:10 to 3:20 marathon if my legs allowed me to do so. Loved the Pro 3 FYI saucony did an amazing job on them.
Asics Magic speed 2 - Is my option , firm yes, not rigid, im 64 kg but the shoe is ligheweight. 4:13 min/km on my last 21K , I feel the way of run changes with a shoe or other. Adidas boston 11, has a kind of plate, but the midsole material is extremely hard for my weight , is a heavy shoe and extra rigid.
I know the majority of shoes being worn by elites in marathons are Nike, but Saucony are really starting to dominate across the board. The next two shoes I want to buy are the Peregrine 13 and the Triumph 20
I have found my body and mechanics just don't get along with Fresh foam. I use the Gylcerin 20's for daily and long runs (tweener for me). Since I am a co-op member at REI, was able to return my More V4's that I was just sinking through and picked up the Hyperion Max for Tempo work. I love the idea of the pillow midsole, but apparently in reality do not get along with it.
Hello! Thanks for this very useful video. I have a question regarding Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 because here you list it as a good Tempo shoe and in your specific shoe review you said it didnt feel good at a pace slower than 8'/mile. But 8'/mile is my current threshold pace 😁 so I'm just confused now... Could you please translate into a range of min/mile the daily / tempo & treshold categories please? It would really help pick the right shoe based on appropriate pace. Thanks 🙏
Currently running on the hoka bondi 8, but training for a marathon in October. Would you recommend adding a tempo shoe like the hoka Clifton 9 and would this be Oke for race day?
Hoka Mach 5 and NB Rebel v3 have been great tweener shoes for me. NB is better for racing because it’s lighter, Mach 5 better for training as it’s more stable.
Fortunately I sccoped up a stars n' stripes Endorphin Speed 2 at half price before they all sold out. I figured the 3 wouldn't be much better if anything worse.
My “tweener” shoe would be the NB SC Trainer!! Maaann I love love love that shoe. It’s just a fun and versatile shoe for me. I can use it during long, fast runs or those wake and bake slow-mo miles. I recently took it out on a really crappy Chicago weather day, and the shoe performed like a champ. The rainy weather didn’t weigh the shoe down and I never thought about (other than to clean it when I got home 😂).
I can’t believe the Superblast isn’t in the matrix! Get that triumph 20 out of there. Put that in the easy/daily categories. Haha Best tweener shoes are the Speed 3 (yes, better than the 2) and the Superblast which are my two favorites for the QD. Also Pro 3 should be in there for threshold/race shoe
Yes! These are my favorite vlogs you put up. Thank you Seth, I'm sure these take quite a bit more work than your regular vlogs!
Yes the day, thanks for tuning in @dan
I feel like Seth lives in a parallel universe where Earth has 34 hour days.
GOAT tweener has to be Noosa Tri 14! also got mine after watching your review of that shoe last year. Effortless running, don't have to focus on how you are striking or your form etc. Perfect grab and go shoe! I even went so far last year and did a 3:18 marathon in them.

Seriously Tom, it's my Tweener too, that I didn't mention in the vlog today, so great
100% agree. Was going to say the exact same thing
My favorite "tweener" shoe of the last six months is the Asics Novablast 3. It does a good job from easy to hard and short to long runs. I just retired them after 400 miles and plan to pick up another pair when they go on sale later this year.
Endorphin Speed
QD: #1 tweener shoe for me would be the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. That shoe is good at everything. Speed, daily, easy, race… you can pretty much do it all in that shoe.
Came back to watch one last road running matrix for old time- over and out
✌🏻
Always love these year or half a year in review type vlogs!!❤
Thanks for watching and spreading it around Jorge
I also love the Tempus... would be great to see a stability shoe matrix as I am wearing the Tempus for every type of run right now.
Seth, I know you are awesome and that I can trust you when I buy a pair of shoes on my own just to try them and I categorize those shoes in my head after 5 or so runs. Making the change from stability to neutral once a new pair is in the budget so this came at a perfect time!! Thanks so much for doing this Seth!!
I love it, back to the core of the channel, thanks for this awesome video!!!
These are the most helpful videos for new runners like me. Thank you
those neon green New Balances are sharp as hell! I love my new V3 rebels, they glide!
Love these blogs. Always come back to them when trying to decide on a new shoe
Kinvara is a beast. Been running in them for 13 years! 💪
Love these vlogs!! I also can’t believe it’s already May!
QD: it is between the Noosa 14 and the NovaBlast 3. Those two shoes are so versatile.
Your love for Saucony is my love for Asics. 😂
The Puma Forrever Run Nitro has to make the Stability Matrix. Love that shoe.
Saucony wiping the board almost! Just bought some Triumph 20s and I must say they are soft but also feel pretty snappy compared to what I’m used to. I can’t imagine how much quicker I would move wearing a plated version..;
And this is why I exclusively wear Saucony. Such great comfortable shoes that cover all my needs.
My tweener is definitely my endorphin speed 2. I use it for my race days ranging from 5k to 15k . I also love it's responsiveness on my tempo days. I don't know how you read my mind Seth but I was just about to pop on for a review and saw your matrix post!! Great timing

Love these kind of videos Seth!!!

Yess I can relate to your post I have the Triumph 18 and found it quite heavy. Actually considering another speed 2 or maybe speed 3

I’ve really been enjoying the brooks glycerin 20 for easy and daily runs and it has plenty of cushion for a long run as well
Tweener? Novablast 3, have 300 miles on this puppy and still responsive, comfy, bouncy, and stable enough for long, ez recovery, or interval repeat workouts.
Favorite tweener is Asics Noosa Tri 14. Comfortable daily trainer and also light weight to pickup the pace.
QoD. Saucony Tempus. They just love anything and everything i throw at them. (Saucony, please make some in flashy colors now!! 🤞)
I’m thinking I could use a Triumph 20 for Tempo as love Triumph cushioning and now much lighter.
My tweener is the Saucony endorphin speed 3. Does everything well ❤️
QD: Have been using the Kinvaras (12 & now 13) as tweeners for almost 2 years now. I use them for everything but easy days, including for racing. My tweener has to be Asics Novablast 3. I use it from easy, tempo and long run. Love the bounce, fun and versatile.
Saucony absolutely killing it
Hey! Thanks for the video. Wondering if you could share some tracks near the Denver area you would recommend that are open to the public?
It's gonna be interesting to get your review on trail shoes.I have been watching the cocosona 250 In looking up the shoes that the pros are wearing and I was happy to see some altra shoes. I personally love Them. Looking forward to it
Saucony endorphin speed 2-all time favourite

QD: Puma Deviate Nitro 2 it is!!! One of the best under rated cats in the market
I bought extra pairs of the Endorphin Speed 2 (as the Speed 3 didn't look as good to me)...but I've almost run these out now. Next up, filling that hole is the ASICS Magic Speed 2, I hope it works for me!
Hi Seth - the matrix is very useful as always. On the soft tempo shoe - surely the Rebel should be considered?
Great vlog, makes me want to go find new shoes…then I see the Kinvara 13 is $75 at running warehouse! Pinching pennies!
I got the novablast 2 like 2 months ago and love it as a tempo-daily
Got it for around 65 usd
Any tips on a shoe for wide feet? I haven't run for two years due to illness, but back then I was loving NB 1080 V11 in a wide fit for daily, easy and tempo. I only switched for intervals and races. For me hands down the FuelCell SC Trainer!!! Amazing shoe👌💪
QOD: Toss up between the Saucony Tempus and the Edorphin Speeds. I can use either shoe for just about any run.
What is ground contact category? Don’t all shoes have to make contact?
what do you think saucony triumph20 compare to asics glideride3 for long run?
I have found my body and mechanics just don't get along with Fresh foam. I use the Gylcerin 20's for daily and long runs (tweener for me). Since I am a co-op member at REI, was able to return my More V4's that I was just sinking through and picked up the Hyperion Max for Tempo work. I love the idea of the pillow midsole, but apparently in reality do not get along with it.
What's the difference between tempo and threshold?
Thanks 🙏
Did I miss the info about weights ?.. I assume the weight was referred to your (tiny) men's size; correct ??...
Wish I could try em all! 😆
Torn between SC trainer(easy/Daily/tempo) vs rebel v3(Daily/tempo/threshold) but my primary easy recovery is morev4
Currently running on the hoka bondi 8, but training for a marathon in October. Would you recommend adding a tempo shoe like the hoka Clifton 9 and would this be Oke for race day?
NOVABLAST 3 has been very good for my type of runs
Hoka Mach 5 and NB Rebel v3 have been great tweener shoes for me. NB is better for racing because it’s lighter, Mach 5 better for training as it’s more stable.
My tweener shoe has definitely been the novablast 3
Almost a Saucony clean sweep. Might as well put the Endorphin Shift on the easy day run hahahaha
Fortunately I sccoped up a stars n' stripes Endorphin Speed 2 at half price before they all sold out. I figured the 3 wouldn't be much better if anything worse.
Awesome video
QD:Brooks Hyperion Max for daily and long and tempo
My Tweener shoe is the New Balance FuelCell SC Elite V3
My tweener for easy and long runs are the altra Escalante racer 3.
Surprised the Novoblast 3 didn’t get mentioned!
QD: NB Rebel V3 has been my all round shoe for the past five months as it can do everything, easy runs, workouts, you name it it can do it.
I completely agree on the Rebel V3. I’ve been up to 12 miles on a run and felt great throughout. There is enough cushion and does not bottom out.
QD: Nike invincible run flyknit 1, 2, or 3! Just seems like it can do it all.
It is a good one for sure, thanks for chiming in
@@SethJamesDeMoor are you going to be at the Fort Collins race this Sunday? My first time running in CO! Should be a beautiful day for a race!
I can’t believe the Superblast isn’t in the matrix! Get that triumph 20 out of there. Put that in the easy/daily categories. Haha Best tweener shoes are the Speed 3 (yes, better than the 2) and the Superblast which are my two favorites for the QD. Also Pro 3 should be in there for threshold/race shoe
last I checked we're talking about shoes in this video, not how to solve world hunger....simma
Hey!
Pegasus 37 as a tempo and easy day!
I wish you made a new matrix ❤😢
I think it’s time for a comparison between tweeners. Which one is the best tweener among the tweener category 😅
Since I watch your videos I can’t get the difference between responsive and energy return… maybe I can’t translate very well to my idiom
Hi... james, whatabout boston 12
Ok, better than the 10. Appreciate you.
What about the Hoka Mach 5?
QOD - Saucony Triumph 20 better than all of the shoes on your list Sir
