Season 1 of True Detective is easily still the best, most exciting and gripping film I've ever watched.
+Nightwatchman Technically, it is since the first season was shot on Super 35 celluloid. More of a 'Film series', I guess.

0:07 that look right there, is rust. Seriously, it's like he is staring at the womans soul just as rust does. In an interview Matthew said he really didn't have to necessarily act to be rust. He had more say as did woody for his character as they were both executive producers. I get chills when he stares like that. I can't unsee rust.
I watch it once a year. Never get bored, always see something new and my level of understanding of it improves too.

Any attempts to repeat something this special would/will fail.
They "burned themselves out",especially McConaughey.
What they should do is a Cohle spin-off. A prequel about Crash :)

+Dean Thomson this is a unique masterpiece. I don't understand why so many people want a sequel? The story is like what 10-15years long? It's life changing for them. It would be most likely to fail to attempt to complete the story and fan would complain and forget how good this was.
Just watch it again in 1 years or 10 and take time to appreciate it for what it is. Don't just change channel and watch something else and telling i like it.
Art is an art to contemplate.
Alexandre Beaudry Season 1 is a masterpiece - but I would like a "prequel" to the missing gaps of Cohle's timeline. Mostly when he was a narc :)

okan hınıslı He played one of the most charismatic characters on TV and i also will miss these characters but i also think they should be left alone, their story was told and i don't see any reason to bring them back if not for fan service. I think having them in only one season is the best choice and makes that one season all the more unique

It doesn't mean they can't go to the past and explore Rust and his undercover days.
I absolutely love Rust Cohle. Couldn't get enough of him. Please make a prequel about Rust. Or a spin-off about him and Marty and their exploits between 95-02.
No point. The director of TD season 1 and the creator had a fallout. Also the director was the main reason it was so good at the first place. I don't think fukunaga will ever involve with TD again. Also we don't need to see rust chole again. His story had really great satisfactory ending.
I hope season 2 is at least HALF as good as the first one, because being half as good is already good enough.

A good review would state why they were bad. The "why" states in my opinion, that there were certain actors who were simply inexperienced in this field. Or, just simply used to another field of expertise. The development wasn't anything I've never seen before, the writing however... Nah, just kidding, the writing was as obvious as a general procedural crime show. Except for the ending where many people just started dropping like flies.
Still, that wasn't enough to even remotely catch up to becoming a "good season".

I know this is an anthology season and it's not meant to repeat characters but I (and I know I'm not the only one) REALLY hope to see at least Rust Cohle again in Season 3 or True Detective or other seasons....maybe introduce a bunch of new characters and have Rust and/or Marty make a cameo? Maybe tackle the cult again?
You kind of predicted it man .. but it didn't have any direct relation to the plot of the 3rd season . But i loved the cameo they did .. made me nostalgic for season 1 .. i sure miss rust and marty . Season 1 was fire . They can make 10 seasons of true detective but season 1 will remain the best imo it set the standard too high for it to be outshined .

I wish that they continued the story with Rust and Marty trying to prove Tutles involvement in the cult instead of the whole Collin Farrell storyline

We got chernobyl who was almost as good as TD season 1. I think if TD is 10/10 then chernobyl 9.8/10. Very close.
I'd love at some point for a new season of "True Detective" to take place in Florida. There were quite a few clues & leads to cases in Season 1 traced to Florida. Remember what Charlie Lange mentioned about Reggie Ledoux,
"...yea uh he said there's these old stones out in the woods that people go to worship and uh he said there's this place way down South where all these rich men go to devil worship and uh sacrifice kids n' whatnot and all these women n' children all got murdered there and he said that there's just so much good killing down there."
Season 1 taking place in Louisiana, so when Charlie Lange says "way down South" ya know he means Florida.
Just my theory anyway.

So do the reality Rust Cohle's . Cry for me . Lived it in to the ground . Payed the full price - ain't cheap . Try the last unctive Rusty girlies - laughing in my own hell . Feel like Dr Robert Ford in Westworld - but hey God is never wrong ? Trouble is I ain't God !. Don't I fucking know it . Wannabe . The Unwritten . Watch this space .
Sometimes the stars just align perfectly that happened with TD1, would love a follow up but how could it live up to that

The first season really needed a little more. It didn't feel as if it had any real closure, I am hoping for 2-3 seasons more, with rusty and marty.
Rust becomes an astronaut and flies into a black hole. The end.
