Regarding the Judy Garland ("Judy") movie that came out in 2019, was Anne unaware of its existence at the time of this interview? Release of the Zellweger film came several months later, but you'd assume Anne would know of it.
True detective season 1 is one of my favorite shows of all-time as well, I like that he wasn't afraid to admit that. It was that good that it's believable that he just enjoyed it. And season 2 was just missing something. I didn't like season 3 either.
Matthew McConaughey is a class act. For an accomplished Oscar-winning actor, he is humble enough to reflect back on a mid-90s teen comedy and discuss it seriously and with palpable nostalgia. 9 out of 10 actors would not even entertain a question like that from their film career because although it was an iconic portrayal, it wasn’t the right caliber of film. Also, he’s spot on with regard to True Detective S2. It was a good series, not great, but it was absolutely lacking that grounding character that Marty Hart contributed to Season 1.
Uh 9 out of 10 actors love talking about their embarrassing early roles, only 1 out of 10 are defensive about it like Wahlberg, and Dazed is a beloved movie
Well Dazed and Confused is not just any old goofy teen comedy,like American Pie or something. It's a genuinely great film made by one of the great American directors of the last 30 years and I'm sure Matt looks back at it as one of his proudest moments
Mathew is also one of a kind with a very low key style. True detective is a fantastic series. Season one was really good and season three is amazing. Really into season three. Both Mathew and woody were at their acting best in season one.
Matthew McConaughey is so right (and honest). Season 1 of True Detective was absolutely brilliant in every way. But the writing was stellar. I had to watch it twice to catch all the fascinating details. He's much too kind about Season 2. For Season 1's serious fans, Season 2 was a big letdown.
The issue with True Detective's second and third seasons is very simple. That being the bar that was set by the first season was just so insanely high, like as in one of the greatest seasons of any show ever made, level of height. There's just no way anything that followed that first season was going to be able to live up to that, especially given the route the show took with implementing whole new casts and what not each season.
