I bought one of these back in April and I love this gun...ported barrel and trigger is so smooth. I get excited every chance I get to the range and it’s just a very nice gun...a bit pricey at $899 but I don’t regret spending the money, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Damn. Standard capacity mags in a tiny form. That's a win.
Great review Sooch,I carried the 1st gen shield for years and still summer carried it. Upgraded to the Plus and it's just a great gun, made me love the shield all over again.
I've owned the original Shield as well for years. I really like the MP line!
Thanks Darren, it's adding the capacity with little change in the grip. It's a definite.
Yeah man about to be a bodyguard and was thinking this was perfect glad I waited a year it's going to get the 4-in old magazine version. I guess good things come to those who wait after all 🤔
I also have a 1st gen Shield but I'm wondering if there is backwards compatibility with the holsters specifically with the 13252 or 4in Performance Center Shield Plus without the red dot. Any help there is appreciated!
Dropped a little extra to get the performance center, never even a shred of regret
"Thanks to Fiocchi. I don't know what we'd do without em."
Well, you'd be us....
Yeah, the ammo shortage sucks, but we've been through this 8 times so my personal ammo stash is what I would be using.
You should have been awake back when clinton got elected and started stackin deep back then! Every election is getting harder and harder on us.
All the ammo is at the gun shows being sold by scalpers
@@maverick3576 Not all of it. Just need to go outside of your big city areas. I went to a smaller town, that had a Cabelas, and I found primers, and loaded ammo. All at close to regular prices. Like $5 for a box of primers. Look around, don't pay their crazy prices, and those prices will come down. The only ammo I bought at a gun show lately, was some 45 Colt, cuz I wanted the brass.
@@D70340 Get a grip. Clinton had zero affect on ammo. Raw materials shortages, manufacturers playing the supply chain game and not understanding the situation and getting ahead of the curve have been the problem. Ammo makers should have been adding capacity years ago instead they decided to run lean and rely on outsource of materials and were paying the price for that decision.
Thats outstanding. Finally a compact with a 4” barrel and a nice trigger.
We are getting spoiled for options
Add the new 15 rd magazines and it's a great carry gun.
@@charleyrider9775 exactly the year and a half a version before it had a 4-in barrel but not the trigger end extended mag capacity now with the equalizer mags available in 15 rounds for this and that it's a wrap.
This, the P365XL and the Springfield Hellcat Pro, are the kings of concealed carry right now imo.
Yep got this for personal protection and regular use. Even a year later it's still on top especially with that 15 round magazine available now from the new equalizer.
100 percent
Can you put a red dot on this?
I held the PC Shield plus yesterday and really liked it. I'm going back today to get it. This looks and feels like a near perfect carry gun. Thanks Sootch
In my opinion, get either the short or long barrel PC M&P Shield Plus. Both the stock and PC trigger breaks are good, but the real difference is the reset. Stock trigger the reset has a longer travel while the PC version the reset feels like you're their as soon as you release the trigger.
Got my performance center without the ported barrel. Shot 160 rounds with 5 different ammo brands, 2 of which where hollow points. I had 13 failures to fire. Light sticker hits. Took it back to where I purchased and they are sending back to S&W to get fixed. I have owned many S&W pistols including 2 other shields, never a problem. What really sucks is this was the most expensive.
Did they work it out?
Wish they would've added a rail to be able to add a light with having the barrel that much longer for the performance center
There is a performance center model with the 3.1 inch barrel as well, and it has a ported barrel and slide. Just picked mine up today. Its awesome.
I agree! For me, a rail would make this an almost perfect carry/home defense gun.
No worries. They will sucker us with that feature down the line. Cha ching! SWMPP is the best of it's kind regardless. TLR6 is my solution until they add a rail.
Got my performance center last week, shot it today, EXCELLENT pistol and very light to carry everyday. Thanks for the reviews
I have the first gen PC Shield and I love it. I just ordered this one minus the ports. I always felt that it should have had at least a 3 1/2" barrel for better balance. That was my only complaint and I think with the 4" barrel, much improved trigger and increased capacity its going to be the perfect carry gun. Thanks for the review.
4"might as well carry a compact
This checks every box for me.
4" model is same size as a Glock 48, but has 3 more rounds with 13 round mag.
Some gentleman on RUclips tested the ported barrel vs. non-ported barrel version. Believe it or not, the ported barrel was measured with more feet per second.
Just bought this as my Carry and it performs beautifully!!!
Ported or no?
@@anthonyblood2439 Not ported. I am looking at the Plus SC but I want to see the reviews. It is lighter than the PC and higher capacity..
I used to have a S&W model 59 9mm I purchased in the ‘80’s. I loved that pistol. I wish I had never sold it. I’ll have to check these out.
As a matter of fact I just bought one today. I really like it so far. Now onto the shooting range.
The Shield Plus is such a nice shooter. The grip, trigger and recoil impulse on a gun this size is just great.
Just bought 2 of the Shield +, one with the safety for the wife, and one without for me. Great Black Friday deal. Thinking about adding the long slide, after I get the M&P 10mm!
I hate you! LOL 😂 just fishing. But it is a great weapon. Haven’t got the 4 in yet
solid line up
Great video Sootch! It was awesome finally meeting you at IV Range Day. I just picked up a Shield Plus Performance Center short slide version. I'm working on getting that video together, and I am IMPRESSED with that trigger and flat shooting performance! Feels like a big upgrade from my current 2.0!
Just got my new shield plus, the world's biggest lemon! Defective right from the get go! Does not feed and jams 100% every shot with both mags and 2 ammo brands, pmc and hornady critical defence. Will not extract the hornady ammo and striker failure half the time. This product has so many issues and defects I don't know if it can even be fixed. Additionally the 10 & 13 round mags are mis- represented it takes superman to get 9 into the 10 rd mags and God to get the full 10 rounds into it. For those who want to carry with an empty chamber, good luck as it takes an act of congress to rack the slide.
Lemon of the year!!!
My guess is that the longer barrel makes up for the loss of velocity from the barrel ports. Plus you get reduced muzzle rise due to the extra barrel weight. So overall, you come out ahead.
A year later and you can get 15rd mags for the plus! That’s Glock 19 capacity in a much smaller footprint
With the intro music, I thought I was fixing to watch "Dances with Wolves"...one of my favorites.
"Dances with Smith and Wesson"
It’s incredible how flat shooting they made this one Sootch00! Love those shooting portions of the video.
Thanks Bother!
Ported and low mount Red Dot Crimson Trace too? That is turn-key concealed carry supreme.
In what way the ported barrel performed was my biggest question. It was completely answered by Mr. Sootch000.
@@voiceofreason9238 They ported it with holes, YW.
Picked one of those up a month ago, nice little gun until I took it down to clean. In side was full of burrs and little bits of flashing, it was like quality control left early on a Friday.
I absolutely love mine. The trigger is way better than my hellcat. I don't think the ported barrel does a lot but it has less recoil than the hellcat. The sights are awesome
God bless America 🇺🇸 Long live the Republic 💪
Be strong, be of good courage 👍
@@sootch00 that is one fine piece of art of a gun . I would love to get me one . Love the sites on it . Man what a gun it is . I would have to say I do not think any gun has any thing on it . Its in a class all by its self.
Facts let's go Brandon
I purchased the basic PC 4" shield plus a few days ago. Came home and swapped the slide from my PC 2.0 shield. The slides interchange and work perfectly. Thinking about buying a basic shield plus and swap slides with my 2.0 for an edc.
I did the same exact thing. I put the 3.1” Gen 1 PC ported slide on my PC Plus frame. Worked like a charm.
Put the 4” PC Slide on the gen 1 frame. No issues!
Keep doing what you're doing Sootch! I love your reviews and this is the first I've seen of this particular firearm. It has me very interested.
I'm going broke.. Every time i see a pistol on you tube i like i buy it !!
This is exactly what I want. I carry a 2.0 compact which I love but it’s just a bit heavy.
I’ve been wanting this for years! It’s easier to hide an inch longer barrel than a longer grip. And the shield doesn’t carry well with a typical kydex holster for me so the longer barrel will carry a lot better
I got the 3.1in Shield 13rd Performance Center, optics, slide cuts and ported barrel!!
Have you shot it yet? If so, what do you think ?
@@m.watson708 not yet, but as soon as I do I will let you know. I am making a leather holster for it right now. I just got it yesterday, took awhile to ship, but man it feels good in the hand. I have large hands and it fits just right. Been carrying a CZ82 for a while, see how I like this one. It's very slim. The only thing I can say I notice is the trigger is really light compared to what I am used too for CCW. I like heavier trigger pulls and in case (God forbid) I ever have to draw, I won't discharge by accident.
Great review! Love the Performance Center Shield 2.0, and just ordered the Performance Center Plus! Without a doubt, the most consistently accurate 9mm I own! I will confess, my favorite part of your review is the trigger pull weight! I wish other reviews would include that, but I see this as a unique part of what you do! May your tribe increase!! Thank you!!
You lined up all of the guns on that table and still the gun that stands out is the Shield Plus. It's just got a unique look to it. I love em.
I would like to see a direct comparison between the Hellcat RDP and this one. A ported barrel vs a factory comp. They look to be about the same size. That would be a great video.
I own a standard Shield, and a Shield Plus, and I love them both. I would really like to see the Shield EZ line updated for higher capacity magazines.
@@lastwarrior214 I do very much like the slightly larger grip, and the higher capacity, the only down side at this time is finding extra 10 and 13 rd mags. If you have a range in your area that rents guns, see if they have a Shield Plus to rent, and you can decide if the trade would be worth it to you.
@TXMGTOW
Do you know if the parts are the same? Like striker, trigger housing etc.? If they discontinue the shield 1.0, I wondering if I should buy the extra parts bcuz I don't have the money to upgrade right now.
Are the slides for both guns compatible? I have an original 3 inch model. Want to buy the , 4 inch Plus. Hoping that I can swap out the slides as needed.
Love my original MP 2.0 Shield with green Crimson Trace mounted laser. I'm really interested in the Plus but with the ammo situation I just can't justify going out and purchasing another pistol to add to my present rotation of three EDC.
Picked up the standard Shield Plus this morning.
I hope you found some ammo for it
Therein lies the problem.
That's cool buddy!
I got the performance center Smith&Wesson m&p shield 2.0 4 inch in 40s&w and love it!!!
Those Red Dot sights for pistols cost more than the pistol does
The Vortex venom and vipers are $250 and cost less than the gun. The Holosun's are $300 . If you want to spend more money get the Trijicon rmr which cost $550.
The swampfox sentinel is a little more than $200 and it's a great option.
Very few fit this firearm. Trij and holo do not
ADE Spike is $150. I have 2 in use and they're great
Just like god intended
I have one (no frame safety) with all the other options including the red dot mounted and I am totally happy with my purchase. Great EDC for summer carry. Almost makes me want to buy another one for my off hand...lol.
Dang Sootch00 you are on it! Can't believe how many of the standard shield plus are STILL IN STOCK. As far as width of pistols, we are really just getting back to the point we were at 80 to 100 years ago. Things have come full circle once again. Why we ever wanted chunky slides in the first place is beyond me. Plenty of slim actions that produced as little or even less recoil than our "modern" plastic pistols.
Thanks Brother! It's awesome to see firearm technology going in the right direction.
I just bought one $860 with the optic ( to add the optic be sure use the T9 to remove the screws) fantastic gun only complaint is the slide stop is a little hard. Comes with MOE 4 or 5
Carried an original 9c since they came out. This gun made me switch. I've got the performance center, but opted out of the ported barrel and the red dot. Love this gun. The only thing that I don't like about this gun is that the slide release is not ambi. Not a deal breaker, though. At least it has a reversible mag release. I'm a lefty.
Is their a way to get a red dot on that one?
I would like to own the standard 2.0+ with night Sites. the better trigger and better magazine capacity are great improvements to a solid firearms design.
The Streamlight TLR-6 is good Laser/light combo to add with a good comfortable holster for EDC.
The shield and the shield Plus have very few parts, if any, that interchange. The chassis are different and the slides are not swappable, according to Smith & Wesson
Carried the gen 1 shield for a long time... Once I saw this existed I knew I needed to upgrade! Ordered it ASAP!
I already got mine right after they came out. 4 inch pc. Non optic. I sent my slide out to be cut for the holosun 507k. I like watching your reviews though.
Shield plus magazines are sold out everywhere. And without mags deal breaker.
I still can't find any :( I would love to find two 13 rounders.
Chronograph testing shows no measurable decrease in velocity with the ported barrel.
Those bloopers are great!😁
I like this gun with the optic sights & go with a Crimson Trace red-dot & magazine dis-connect, slide mounted safety & a lanyard loop. I ride a mountain bike year round. 1 mag in & 4 more as " stand by backup status" !
I wish the 4" included a rail for better light options
All that perfection and they leave out the rail. Wonder what RDS’ out there would co-witness other than the CT (personally I wouldn’t place a CT RDS on that beauty).
I own one
The CT 1500 is not bad at all, I would not change it.
However the Sightmark a-spec m3 micro is a perfect fit and will co-witness.
The gun is a beauty and shoots like a dream
Nice to the point review video. There was no mention of the S&W M&P Shield + Performance Center edition with the available with the 3.1" barrel. It is available with all the same PC options as shown in this review for those wanting a true micro 9.
Smith and Wesson Should have included a picatinny rail for a light
The Streamlight TLR-6 for the original S&W MP Shield fits on this model if you are looking for really great light.
@@JettBlast that's a subpar light compared to even their own micro tlr7, which would have worked perfectly if they would have added a single picatinny slot
Which is disappointing, as I prefer how the shield feels and shoots over the hellcat. Not to mention the hellcat comes in at a better price as well, an optics model for 599
Recover tactical sells an adapter rail that looks good and doesn’t really bulk up the gun
@@desiretuiel Thanks buddy, I will check that out...
The regular Plus us awesome so I expect the PC Plus to be amazingly awesome.
The 5906 is pretty.
Always has been... Always will be.
Hmm. Might upgrade my original PC Shield.
Mag-na-port can port yours for $167. Who custom mills for Red Dot?
@@jeffreylocke8808 This is my opinion. I'm not bashing your comment, but I think porting a subcompact pistol is dumb. It is already losing velocity and power, no reason to rob it of more velocity and power.
I prefer to focus on shooting fundamentals than tacticool accessorizing.
After upgrading my shield to a sig P365, S&W decides to come out with this. They should've made the shield plus a year ago, now I have to convince my wife that I need a new gun
wish they had a rail for a light... love having a light and laser
The TRL-6 fits perfect
I have this exact same firearm but without the ported barrel. :-) My only issue is finding an IWB holster that comfortably fits my fatness. lol
May I ask why you decided to go without the porting? I’m leaning towards that option
@@anthonyblood2439
None was in stock.
Best holster for the 4" Plus is from Legacy Arms (IWB Cronus) $69.99
Also the weapon of choice in Resident Evil 8.
The velocity loss due the ports is minimal. Again great video.
Great review. I hope they follow up with a PC Plus in .45 .
I don't think they will according to their press release. The .45 apc in a microcompact doesn't make much sense, since it has too much recoil and loses too much velocity in a short barrel. Also, the big thing is lost ammunition capacity. The whole idea of this updated Shield was to compete with the other microcompact 9mm pistols improved capacity.
@@Uberragen21 Good points, but they already make a PC Shield in 45, which is what I now carry. If I can bump from 8 rounds with the extended mag to 10 or 11, that would be great. My ported Shield in 45 has less recoil than my standard Shield in 9mm so kick is already not an issue As far as velocity, it's most important when trying to penetrate the heavier clothes worn in winter and switching from spring and summer carry Federal HST's to Underwood Xtreme Defenders in fall and winter also helps negate the velocity issue.
I bought the latest PC45 in the 4 inch (non ported) barrel. Leaps and bounds a far better pistol than the 3.3 inch model. I put a APEX flat trigger in mine, LOVE it!
I was looking mine over before i go to the range tomorrow, and almost began to question if the orange was actually rust but then I saw yours 😅 I guess I never noticed it when I cleaned it last time I went to the range
Just picked one up. I need that reloader!!
Another great, thorough review! Much respect, Don!
Diggin that flat trigger - had the original shield and the hinge trigger was kinda weird. Great gun. Wish I never got rid of it.
I love my little Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm
Loving this gun but holster compatibility and accessories are very limited right now, I really hope that changes!
To me it doesn't need any accessories comes ready to go out the box no need to ship it in like people have been saying. An we are the people makes nice stuff for it the previous 4-in shield poster fits nice obviously.
@@darrendyson8347 My experience has been that I can't get another 13 round mag, I can't put a holosun on it without slide milling, there is only one rail addon for it and when I tried that it doesn't fit properly which means no mantis trainer or flashlight other than the somewhat shitty tlr6. I ended up just getting a vedder holster and still love the gun anyway though. Would really like to see something come out so I can at least put a holosun on it because I'm not a big fan of the crimson trace that comes on it.
@@jacoblarkee okay okay I'm a beginner when it comes to red dots so the crimson traced is my first LOL. It's like me only having experience with one woman and you have experiences with many so it makes sense on why I'm so content 🤣. You're possibly right though a better Red Dot would turn this pistol into a whole nother beast more than it already is.🤔
Give me blacked out rear sights and I'm good to go. The Plus is probably one of my favorite carry guns at this time.
I just got this one! Love it! ❤️
Salute to you Don!
Thanks Brother!
As someone who lives in Europe where our government treats us like shit ill say 1 thing to my American cousins......... Never let them take your guns away!
Great review. It is an awesome pistol and a phenomenal upgrade by S&W. Thanks for sharing.
Just got an original shield from my nephew. I love it, but am already plotting to get one of these. Another fantastic review!
There’s no safety option with the 4” PC. There’s only a manual safety option with the 3.1” PC. Very strange.
I just bought this gun today! I wanted the porting, so I had to go with the safety. I wish the gun was ambidextrous, but the safety is stiff enough to stay in place. I know some had reported the slide release being very difficult to work, but mine is great out of the box. Thanks for the review!
Hey Frank, just ordered one, how is it holding up? Also I saw that it's possible to remove the safety.
@@kanelive2686 She's running great! I've been taking a few pistol classes to build up my skills. I've put at least 700 rounds through her and only one misfeed so far. I also read you can remove the safety but I'm not sure it's legal. You may want to research it.
@@nfavor thanks Frank! Happy to hear it's working out! Yeah didn't think of any legal obligations, I guess if you haven't had any accidental mishaps I'll just leave it alone. Thanks Franks, can't wait to get it in my hand.
I own the P365 and new Shield +. Both are masterpieces in what they do. I wish S&W would make the Shield + in 40s&w.
Really digging the intro music.
S&W Performance Center Shield Plus vs Sig Sauer 365XL
Time to test the new Shield plus comp carry
Sweet pistol but I wish they would have extended the dust cover and added an accessory rail. I guess they decided using the same frame from the shorter version was a better idea.
Picked one up a few weeks ago and love it!
Professional review as usual. Great weapon.
My wife loves this pcw. I’ll stick to my FN 509c, but it sure is a fun shooter. Not snappy
If they discontinue the shield 1.0, CA will lose another gun, leaving us with about 3 guns left
Instead of complaining, do something about it.

Loving those sights!
Since the Sigma days, I did not warm to the S&W pistols, but this is an awesome gun.
Wish they offered the 4" Shield Plus with a manual safety. Only the smaller shield plus has that option unfortunately.
I'm getting left behind with my gen1 PC .40.... but I'm getting old so.....it is what it is....and can't be what it's not! 🤠
Nothing wrong with that Gen 1 .40. It is still a very good gun.
Damn dude, you're slapping the outta of that trigger
I have the original M&P compact with holds a 12 rd mag I also have the shield 2.0
Having trouble concealing stuff?
Get a compact revolver. Run 357magnums. You don't need to pepper your target, just cut your target in half.
Frankly these skinny grips are just too dainty and too thin for my hands. There's a limit to down-sizing stuff. I had to add the Hogue grip sleeve to the Shield45 so my finger isn't wrapping to the second joint when I pull the trigger. Besides, bigger firearms are easier to handle, manipulate, aim.
Looks like the only thing missing is the 2.0 grip texture. I love that texture, maybe one of the best if not the best out there.
