@@deadfullyawesome I'm not saying Shannon is not on steroids, I don't know if he is, and I don't care, but I want to explain something. Yes, you can naturally look like Shannon Sharp...Probably not at 55, but that's the only suspicion I have. Even if he was taking steroids, they don't make a difference as big as you think they do. If you are taking steroids and you're 235 pounds lean, without steroids you'd be 210 pounds lean, and you'd look EXACTLY the same, just a little bit smaller. Steroids don't change your muscle composition, they don't change anything, they just add a little more mass on WHAT YOU ALREADY POSSESSED AT YOUR BIRTH. If Ronnie Coleman was 300 pounds shredded on steroids, without steroids he would look exactly the same, but he wouldn't be 300 lbs, he would be around 240, EXACTLY the same, just smaller. Genetics is not 90% of muscle building, it's 99.9999999. If you compare a person with bad genetics (on steroids) to a person with great genetics (not on steroids), the same effort, same nutrition, great genetics wins always, in 100% of cases. In fact, it's not even a 100%, it's more that that, it's not even a number, it can't be captured with language, how big of a difference genetics play in this. If you put in the effort and you still look like shit, it's your genetics, and there is no ammount of steroids that can help you.
As a 57 yr old woman who has been in full menopause for 6 yrs, get asked the same thing! What am I using!!! My answer is nutrition, weights, bodyweight and consistency!
Jeff this has been one of the most encouraging videos that Ive watched. I've re-listened to his eating plan a number of times just to soak the simplicity and results into me. 55 years old, disciplined in his workouts and disciplined in his eating. He's jacked. I really didn't know much at all about Shannon Sharpe. I really admire him now. Thanks for a great video.
Shannon is one of if not the greatest Tight End of All Time. He changed the position. After he entered the game. Everyone was looking for another him. Shannon was a beast. He could take on your best Line Backers. While beating your best Corners ane Safeties. No steroids, just living right and working out properly.
Yeah but just cuz you in great shape doesn't mean you're smart and doesn't mean I have to listen to you on everything all that means is you're in good shape
@@mcnally145 but it is a bad thing to decieve and lie to everyone about what's achieveable and what's not. at a 32ffmi at 56 is ridiculous. the top natural every recorded is 27.3 so yeah
I’ve been a huge fan of Shannon’s since back in his Denver Broncos / EAS days. Although I knew I would never look like him, he presented a goal to work towards. Planning on checking out his podcasts now. Thanks for highlighting Mr. Sharp.
one thing I thought was weird was even McCaffrey got ripped and was a string bean prior to the EAS days. but TD and Sharpe are both still muscular guys and have to believe they are some of the few genetic freaks. And believe me, I think most IG influencers are on tons of peds no matter what they "say".
Shannon's comment about the locker room and the shared experience wasn't about enjoying the process or the grind per se. It was about going through it with other people. Jeff himself mentioned the camaraderie he felt as a trainer (23:59) for the Mets as a key factor in his being successful and enjoying the process while it was happening and not, as in this video, as somebody looking back philosophically years later. Get yourself a workout buddy, a workout coach, or start mentoring somebody in the gym. It will make the process SO much more rewarding and easier to be consistent with. The sum is greater than the parts when you work out with somebody who shares your goals. Shannon helped the Broncos win their first Super Bowl when I was 13 and living two hours from Denver. He was one of my sports gods. His biceps seemed unreal but were very motivating for an 8th grader just discovering the weight room. Thanks for this video, Jeff.
I was in the best shape of my life when working out with the other defensive backs and track guys like myself. There were 5 or 6 of us who did both. Year round training. When I lost that, and life's challenges came, I veered. I am not disciplined enough to do all that I was doing with those guys, on my own. At least not right now. I am drawing motivation (know every workout that I need to do and have every piece of equipment I need right in my training room), just a mental hurdle I have to clear since setting up my new house earlier this year. Don't ever want to be as jacked as Shannon. I'm 45 and 5'10" 220 right now. Don't really need to lose anything. I carry it mostly power half and wouldn't even want to be much below my previous ideal of 217. 210 lowest. I'm not terribly off the mark, because some people would look at me and wonder what I'm complaining about. Those who worked out with me would wonder what happened in the last 25 years LOL

@jones1394 Nahhh, What you just said, You told yourself it is hard. If you tell yourself something enough, then you begin to internalize. What you internalize, you believe! Change your thinking, then you'll change your beliefs. Change your beliefs, then you change your life! If you say you can't, then you won't! All you have to do is keep telling yourself something, even if you don't believe it immediately. Keep saying it, and then you will begin to believe it, but it takes effort!
Great breakdown this one of the best and really puts peoples hard work into perspective. The comment around "when people see what they haven't got"... absolutely spot on... people just want what they don't have and if they can't get it the jealousy side just comes straight to the top... great video. Love these.

If Shannon had asked Jeff to put a video presentation together to show him what his expertise can do for him, this video would be it. Great coaching by Jeff here. Not just the technical tips but also how Jeff communicates the message. On a side note, I’m currently running AX-1 again after about 2 years since the last time and I’m still impressed with how genius the programming is. This program always helps me overcome injuries too. I love it and repeat it often with a different focus and goals each time. Great job Jeff…

Jeff, I have always admired Shannon and believe he lives, eats and works out similar to you. Eating that healthy and working out 6+ times a week with the weights he is moving would give anyone a healthy looking body. You add in his genetics and how long he has done it and the results look believable! Thanks for this episode and all you do to help us stay healthy!
An inspiration for older men who are looking for positive role models. Shannon Sharpe is an example to me that you can live a good healthy life as you pass 50.
Many thanks to Jeff for consistently creating and sharing informative content that helps our health and fitness. I think he's one of the best online content creators. He definitely deserves his 13.8M subscribers.
There are certainly outliers out there, genetic freaks. Last week I saw a kid probably 16-17, across the street, while I was sipping on in a tea shop in Turkiye. The kid was about 6,2, wearing a tank top and shorts, I could tell he wasn't a gym goer, but he had muscular shoulders, calves almost to the point of someone who had been training at least 6 years natural, and his arms were as structured as many can not get in a couple of years. It was very obvious to me that he didn't lift, and it was the first time I saw someone with such a freaky genetic displayed through their muscular structure to the point, I thought of approaching him and sponsoring him for the rest of his life for the next 10 Mr. Olympia wins, but than I realized I am broke and will be broke. :))) (been a gym rat my self for so long, I always observe people, and this kid was the best freak of genetics I had seen so far in decades)
TO looks great Shannon looks insane. He looks better than great for 56. Like a 25 yr old that competes in shows. Not like a 56 yr old. Him and Hershel Walker the only two ageless vampires.
Your information on how to do a good shoulder press is gold! Standing upright and doing it with one dumbell is so good to concentrate the lateral deltoid and other shoulder muscles! Good work!
Yeah if only you bought the same shoes, ate the same way, trained exactly how he tells you, you'll look just like John Cena, the Rock, or Jeff! LOL........Keep dreaming dude. The rest of us will be living better through chemistry and stay grounded in a healthy reality.
Most folks don't realize it's all about TRAINING EFFECT. Do exercises based on the F.I.T.T. principle means everything. In my 50's, I realize commitment and consistency in anything in life works wonders. You're right, if you Stay Ready, Never got to get Ready...Prime Time said it. With training, there's the old saying: "We don't stop moving because we get old, We get old because we stop moving." Great post.👊
I figured out my genetics real quick when I tried out for the track team. My competitors were soo much faster than me, that they crossed the finish line so far ahead of me, they were able to catch their breath, then turn around and cheer me on. 😅
ouch...I remember those days, not even remotely gifted at sports. Just a fat guy in gym class. I remember doing swimming in gym class and by the time I had finished my laps, the other swimmers had dried off and were starting a new module lol. It was horrible.
I remember Shannon Sharpe.from the EAS Muscle Media 2000 magazine from 1997. He was on the front cover as the NFL's best physique and it was easy to believe. A wonder combination of weight training and professional sports and looking great in the process. It's great to see he's kept up his body too.
@@RooseCochran And some people *don't* have to _"maintain their genetic gifts with training and nutritional discipline."_ Those are the people who can "eat whatever they want" and are still relatively lean. Or the people who "don't workout", yet are muscular. As well as some people who don't train but still have a high athletic endurance. So yes, it's ok to not feel the need to defend the statement _"Some humans are just genetically gifted."_ It's not always an excuse, it's simply a fact.
Some humans sit online crying about other humans being more genetically gifted. Some humans accuse everyone that’s in shape of taking PEDs. Some humans cry about PEDs and genetics instead of focusing on bettering themselves.
Being 65 with over 5 decades of consistent training i can tell you ...Its amazing Shannon is still very strong and his form is fine...its the muscle mind connection, training hard without over training consistently and diet that keeps him at this level..the 2 times a day split is excellent also...i also have done this..doing two 30 min workouts spread out several hours appart feels great...i believe it especially better for natural older athletes,it helps muscles recover better imo...plus keeps metabolism working more efficiently...😊
I was a walk-on kicker at UGA. Two other kickers and I were "randomly" selected for testing. There were ten players selected out of over 100 athletes on the roster, and three of them were kickers!
Jeff. Id pay money to see u make a video about 15:10 “glutes, hips, and hamstrings” training for older men…. I also have AS but working thru some of ur older vids on these topics has helped in some ways but also set my SIJs on fire. Im probably a special case bc of it but would still love a video on that topic specifically. ❤❤
I think what's more important is the type of job you perform. While we all want to strive for more, sometimes if not most, the occupation plays a crucial role. Not to mention, family
Shannon is clean. His body, lifestyle of clean eating and work in the gym has been consistent all his life. College, NFL and after football. And there are no abnormalities in the physique.
All time, great NFL players are athletes with elite genetics and an unbelievable work ethic. Its very possible that Shannon Sharpe has never taken PEDs.
I am 56 years old. I am one of those guys. I get the look at the gym a lot. Some guys even asked me. I tell them that I only use supplementation. Which is the truth. Vitamins, Whole Foods and a little discipline. Of course I use protein shakes. And he's right. Not everyone has the same genetic cards dealt to them . I'm nowhere near as strong as some guys in the gym but I look it. I'm pretty jacked up. I know that I Inspire some of these young guys in the gym. That is worth almost as much to me as getting in shape myself. I love being the old dog in the kennel. Everything I take you can get at vitamin shoppe.

Awesome video Jeff. I have to say, you do such a professional, upstanding job on these critiques. It easily stands you above and apart from the others that do these videos with their constant gay innuendos and shallow content. Keep doing these. I find them to be so helpful. Can you cover David Goggins next?
I do believe he’s on TRT now which is legal & medically prescribed, but Sharpe was always jacked he was 6’2 200 in high school with crazy strength & college he was 6’2 230.
I'm so glad I found your channel. U give excellent advice & u are very knowledgeable about everything to do with working out. I'm trying to soak it all up, thanks for the great videos.
I totally agree with Shannon Sharpe… I’m certainly not as well conditioned as Sharpe, but close enough and without any PEDs to easily believe that the condition he’s in even at 55 years old is achievable with the lifelong discipline he’s followed in the gym and in the kitchen. God bless him!
At 54 years in age, I am in great shape that had most of these young guys question if I am on something. Well, I am only on God's grace and mercy. Either way, Shannon could care less who thinks that he is on something. Whenever you make nutrition and fitness part of your everyday life. You will find yourself in great shape! 💪🏾💯🙏🏾
I am 54 and lifted heavy for years. I never played NFL and took the hits he did. I had shoulder surgery on both shoulders so I can not bring the weight down as low as Shannon. What he is lifting is crazy impressive. I wish people who do not do rag on someone and say they are on Steroids. When I was in my second half of my twenties people call me a juicer and I was 💯 clean. I had good genetics and I was super consistent in the gym.
I'm 54, and have had a very similar lifestyle in terms of training and nutrition since high-school, and, big surprise, I still have a cut and jacked physique that I keep within 5 pounds throughout the year. I don't have the freaky strength or size that Shannon has, but at 6 ft and high 180s, I'm pretty strong
As a former All-American and 2nd round pick, my biggest mistake is not having a trainer like you who would have made me more disciplined at the breakfast, lunch and dinner table. I hit .454 with a little power for my lean size, but once I got to the minors, I saw how many players (especially from the south and west coast), stayed in great shape year round. Shannon his the gifts genetically on and off the field and is my favorite sports commentator, ever! Thank You!

Some of the most sound nutrition advice. Be prepared. Lifestyle over dieting. Sustainability and consistency are key. Choosing high quality foods goes a long way to helping you manage the quantity. One thing I would add is treat meals over cheat meals. You’d be surprised how many treat foods you can fit into your maintenance budget just fine without “cheating.”
Outliers truly exist. I grew up with a few guys that were jacked for no reason. But even as an adult I see it A good friend is 38 does not weight lift at all and never has. He rock climbs, hikes and plays tennis. But is just under 6'2, about 250 pounds and just built. An absolute outlier
One your best videos! Great analysis and defense for Shannon Sharpes awesome physique. Amazing what can be done regardless of age - we all have our unique potential and gifts.
@@lamontbillingslb Dude look at the size of those. If the ones that say 60 on them were KG that would be over 130lbs. Have you ever seen 130lb dumbbells? They're enormous. What are those dumbbells made of to be that small to weigh that much? Adamantium?
On his Nightcap podcast recently, he said he's about "240 lbs." He has a MASSIVE frame. Larger weights tend to look smaller when larger people are handling them. They could very well be 60kg, but look smaller due to his mass.
Bc he's much older now. Your test levels naturally drop and you could keep doing the same thing you've always done and start seeing 1/4 of the results. Exact reason I started TRT in my 40s. I was working out smarter and eating better than ever before and seeing worse results. TRT brought it back in balance.

You took my comment bro. I'm only 43 and I'm a CPT, and this was still informative.
Shannon is one of if not the greatest Tight End of All Time. He changed the position. After he entered the game. Everyone was looking for another him. Shannon was a beast. He could take on your best Line Backers. While beating your best Corners ane Safeties. No steroids, just living right and working out properly.
Kellen Winslow changed the position in the 80’s
Yeah but just cuz you in great shape doesn't mean you're smart and doesn't mean I have to listen to you on everything all that means is you're in good shape
The guy is not a regular guy. He’s a world class athlete. He’s a hall of famer. Idk if he takes anything or not. But the guy has amazing genes.
He is also clearly, 100% on "TRT" and it isn't even a question.
yes and the top ffmi of the best genetic ever recorded is 27 at 33 years old. he's 56 with ffmi index but keep your delusions real
His brother was special too and would be in the NFL HOF if it was not for a neck injury
He takes steroids man it’s not like it’s a bad thing his age
@@mcnally145 but it is a bad thing to decieve and lie to everyone about what's achieveable and what's not. at a 32ffmi at 56 is ridiculous. the top natural every recorded is 27.3 so yeah
I’ve been a huge fan of Shannon’s since back in his Denver Broncos / EAS days.
Although I knew I would never look like him, he presented a goal to work towards. Planning on checking out his podcasts now. Thanks for highlighting Mr. Sharp.
I use to have the EAS magazine with Shanon on the cover
The best of my time..EAS
one thing I thought was weird was even McCaffrey got ripped and was a string bean prior to the EAS days. but TD and Sharpe are both still muscular guys and have to believe they are some of the few genetic freaks.

Agreed, this works for cycling, running, and endurance sports as well
Suffering shared is suffering halved !

Shannon and TO look great for their age
Looking great period! Do you know many kids that look like them?
Great in general, they look insane for their age
(been a gym rat my self for so long, I always observe people, and this kid was the best freak of genetics I had seen so far in decades)
Too good?
TO looks great
Shannon looks insane. He looks better than great for 56. Like a 25 yr old that competes in shows. Not like a 56 yr old. Him and Hershel Walker the only two ageless vampires.
Someone asked if I was on steroids the other day. It was the best compliment I’ve had in a long time - natural all the way.
Came here for the "better luck next time"
Wasn't disappointed
Your information on how to do a good shoulder press is gold! Standing upright and doing it with one dumbell is so good to concentrate the lateral deltoid and other shoulder muscles! Good work!

Great video sir, you did a wonderful job explaining to me. I learned a lot.

Some humans are just genetically gifted
And some humans maintain their genetic gifts with training and nutritional discipline.
Some humans take performance enhancing drugs. Sometimes gentically gifted humans also take PED's. That's usually the case at the top of any sport.
Some humans sit online crying about other humans being more genetically gifted. Some humans accuse everyone that’s in shape of taking PEDs. Some humans cry about PEDs and genetics instead of focusing on bettering themselves.
Exactly!
I'm glad you discussed his workouts and clarifying that he's throwing around kilos, not pounds 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
He is wrong. These are definitely pounds not kilos, it's obvious to anyone who has ever used the "big boy" side of the dumbbell rack.
I was a walk-on kicker at UGA. Two other kickers and I were "randomly" selected for testing. There were ten players selected out of over 100 athletes on the roster, and three of them were kickers!
I don't do very much in the way of lifting, but I really cleaned up my diet. That alone made a tremendous difference.
can you tell me a little more about that diet please🙌
Good job, on your eating habits 🎉.
