Fun Fact: Robin Williams gave so much comedic material for his character that the creators had to cut down on a lot of them just to get enough in the final film.
Fun fact: The scene where the Genie is disguised as a bee while feeding Aladdin lines, they had to do 17 takes of that scene cause Scott Weinger, the one who plays Aladdin, couldn’t stop cracking up.
Brilliant movie, it really shows off Robin Williams' talent. He ad-libed all of his lines in this and apparently Disney recorded about 16 hours of material from him.
1. The Carpet was animated traditionally, but CG was used to map the pattern to the animation. 2. Gilbert Gottfried's ad-libbed "...And how about this picture? I dunno, I think I'm making a weird face in it..." made ROBIN fall over laughing.
@@jp3813I’d assume they either all recorded in one booth to sync up the lines, or the actors were simply allowed to hear recordings of each other’s performances to work off of.
Jafar has always been my favourite Disney Villain. A pure evil, cunning, ruthless, brutal, manipulative, power-hungry, immoral psychopath, who is in all honestly, really funny and charismatic. I find him such a delight to watch. In the Disney movie "Mickey's House of Villains" (2002), Jafar leads all the other Disney Villains and overthrows Mickey Mouse and all the Disney Heroes and takes over, leading to a climactic final battle between Mickey and Jafar.
For the opening scene with the merchant, Robin Williams had to stand in front of a table covered with a cloth, and was told to just react to whatever he pulled out. Meaning yes, there's a good chance he did break something.
RIP Robin Williams. He is one of the Masterpiece of Comedic in theatre that his voice and acting performances shook the crowds of all time. I love his performances out of all of his movies he made us laugh in his voice and acting performance. Out the gate. Best Disney Animation. Great characters that all movies teaches life Lesson.
26:00 Funny story, so in Disneyland they used to show a Broadway musical type show of Aladdin and the actor who played Genie naturally ad-lib several jokes here and there. Funniest one I can remember though that got even the actor playing Ali, is during this scene after Aladdin said no to freeing Genie and the crowd started booing him; “You hear that? … Those are my thoughts! You made that guy leave! And your happy about this?” XD
Fun Fact: Robin Williams initially refused to sing anything because he didn't think he had a good singing voice, but the guys at Disney convinced him to sing by asking him "if you can imitate anyone, why not imitate a singer?" As such we got the versions of "Friend Like Me," "Prince Ali," and "Arabian Nights," we got in this film
Sadly Robin Williams did not return for the sequel Return of Jafar, but he did come back for the third movie Aladdin and the King of Thieves, which is, one of the stronger and better Disney sequels and also gives us a rare story with a Disney dad and gives said dad a decent story and development and nicely wraps up the Aladdin franchise.
the other two: Return of Jafar and King of Thieves are definitely worth checking out and must be watched in order to understand some character development
I just love this movie. It has songs but not too many, I enjoyed the visual and sound effects a lot in the cinema when I watched it for 1rst time, It was so exciting. I am glad you liked. Robbin Williams will live forever throught this movie.
random story: i was at my parents' friend's house when i first saw this movie; i was around 5 or 6, and because i was the only kid there, they put aladdin on for me to watch while the adults had fun. during the scene where the cave of wonders appeared i got so scared i switched the tv off. a few minutes later i wanted to continue watching, but i didn't know how to switch the tv back on (it was a weird tv) and i was too shy to ask my parents so i just sat there for like 2 hours before someone finally noticed. i watched aladdin a few years later with my sister and absolutely loved it
4:40 - Hunchback comes two movies after this one. So you're not wrong given the timing these came out. I believe the staff used for the musical components were more or less the same, with some additions for specific songs like The Lion King using Elton John as an example.
27:26, yes but since his magic comes entirely from the Genie he feels a sense of dependence on him that will render him extremely reluctant to let go. Same as Aladdin
Aladdin is my favorite Disney animated movie and this is one of my favorite videos. I LOL'd at your "booo". Everything Genie is improvised by Robin Williams.
Double fact During “A whole new world” Aladdin and Jasmine trevelled Greece with everything as the Zeus Temple, that explaned 5 years after Aladdin in 1997 Disney released Hercules, but in a weird coincidence and conection Aladdin and a teenage Hercules team up to beat Jafar again after he’s being resurrected by Hades in the TV series. The other fact is when Jafar throws a small bottle who makes him disappear, maybe he make a werid deal with The Emperor’s New Groove Yzma, because if you’re me watching The Emperor’s New Groove first before Aladdin it will blow you mind, Jafar has an different Yzma potion, but NOT that one who turns into a llama as Kuzco
29:36, it’s subtle but I think there is a parallel between Aladdin and Jafar here which is that Aladdin couldn’t bring himself to let go of the Genie’s power after realizing that everything he got came from it and here Jafar is coming to the exact same realization.
Yep. Jafar and Aladdin are similar in that both want the Genie for their own reasons, but Aladdin proves himself to value the Genie as a friend, while Jafar remains selfish to the end.
Next to The Lion King, Aladdin is my second favorite film of the Disney Renaissance era! I love the characters (especially Jafar and the Genie), the songs, the story, and the visuals too. P.S: RIP Robin Williams, the comedic genius that gave a Genie his freedom
The earliest fireworks came from China during the Song dynasty (960-1279) The Arabian Nights stories (Aladdin and his Magic Lamp) were first introduced to Europe in a French translation by Antoine Galland in 1704.
Just a random tidbit, part of why the "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense" sounds so different from the "It's barbaric, but hey, it's home" that follows is because it was originally along the lines of "where they'll cut off your nose if they don't like your face", but people were very unhappy on that and brought up their concerns, etc and it got changed by the VHS version even, if not most of the theatrical release?
yeah so? you do know that in the USA girls are allowed to get married at 16 right? so imagine back in the day, in the deserts of arabia where people's life span was half of what is it today, 16 is definetly an adult.

I think you forgot the Sultan was under Jaffar spell for the most part, but it is indeed unclear whether he didnt change the rule before because of that or just from wanting to keep traditions
I always thought it would be funny if at the end when Aladdin tells Jasmine, Call me Al, if she just kept staring at him and says, I'm not doing that lol, Another great classic movie
Maaan this is my favourite Disney movie ever. Mi parents used to buy me and my brother VHS with animated movies and I always loved Aladdin, I mean the Genie is just one of a kind. If you're continuing watching Disney classics go for Pocahontas next.
This movie caused a war between Disney and Robin Williams. Robin did the movie at a significantly small pay cause he liked the idea, his only request was that they not use him to advertise the film, they agreed. However later they changed their mind and had his name and the genie on everything which made Robin very angry and he would take shots at Disney any chance he got. They eventually made amends in the end. Kinda crazy tho to see a guy take shots at Disney and not lose his career from it.
The other 2 Aladdin movies were direct-to-video, so they aren’t typically considered to be as good as the original, but I remember enjoying them when I was younger and there are lines from them that I still quote to this day. Only unfortunate thing is that Robin Williams did not return for the second movie, although he did help pick his stand in, and kid me sure never noticed. He does return for the third, tho, so if for nothing else but more Robin Williams I’d say go for it if you’d like.
Robin Williams is definitly the highlight of this movie. RIP. As for the wishes, I don't think it's wise to use them. You will never appreciate what's just been given to you as much as the things you earned on your own. Also, those wishes have their loopholes, most of them are just illusions and run on limited time. Another good Robin Williams movie is Popeye, a musical based on the old cartoons and comics and fun fact the setting of Sweethaven was left standing at the end of filming and turned into a tourist attraction.
Honestly, the Sorcerer Wish from Jafar was most likely the best wish you can make. When it comes to magic, your imagination is your only limitation. He could create stuff from nothing, manipulate objects and transform himself... Honestly, just free the Genie, the only one more powerfull than you but weaker once free, and you are the most powerfull being on earth. You could most likely even use magic to become immortal. The third wish (or better said second) can be whatever you want, doesnt really matter. YOu could wish for the winning numbers of a lottery with a high jackpot, so you have no more problems with money without even using your own magic...
At last someone reacted to Aladdin a movie from my youth. Rest in peace the brilliant Robin Williams the only voice of the genie. Now if you could please do Disney Oliver and company been waiting for that too.
