In this animated Disney tale, Aladdin (Scott Weinger), Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) and the gang are not as free of the menacing sorcerer Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) as they think. Since their last encounter with him, Jafar has been imprisoned in a magic lamp, but an inept thief, Abis Mal (Jason Alexander), is about to change that. Luckily for Aladdin and friends, Jafar's parrot, Iago (Gilbert Gottfried), has switched to their side -- which is good, because they need all the help they can get.

Jafar making Abis Mal waste his two wishes so that he can use his last one for his freedom. That is deceptively clever.
Yeah, it is. Jafar *is* the villain after all 🤣
I don't know about clever. Abis Mal used his last wish to get all the treasure he wanted in all of Agrabah. Jafar kinda screwed himself over like he did in the first movie. He's an awesome yet kinda stupid villain lol.
That would attribute him to being a Jin, instead of a Genie IMO.
@@rommix0but he also wants to know what happens if all the treasures he wants will disappear if he set Jafar free.
So one of Robin Williams requests doing Aladdin is he didn’t want to used or his voice to merchandise products. And Disney breached the contract so there was a feud between them which is why he wasn’t in this film but all got resolved and he returned for part 3. Also After Aladdin there was the cartoon series where Abizmal had a recurring roll as the Villain and then Aladdin 2 came
Abizmal is voiced by the guy that plays George Costenza from Seinfeld.
@@biguy617 Jason Alexander
Genie's voice was taken over by Dan Castellanetta aka Homer J. Simpson. (I also heard his Arnold's Grandpa Phil voice a couple times.)
@@biguy617 He was also one of the Hunchback gargoyles.
Aladdin 2 came before the series. Aladdin 2 was kinda the pilot.
Iago’s sick and tired of being abused by Jafar I’m so glad that he abandoned him for Aladdin
This Aladdin sequel was SO FUNNY!!! Especially that part when Iago sang that funny song about quitting being Jafar's lackey!😂
At least they didn't use an even worse Gilbert soundalike like with Mr. Beetle's song in Thumbelina which ironically came out the same year 1994 (which BTW is the year I was born).
This movie serves as a pilot for the tv series. And King of Thieves serves as the finale. Also, Hercules: The Animated Series features a crossover episode where Aladdin and Hercules team up to fight Jafar and Hades.
Fun Fact: This film was the premise of the TV series. It takes place in between the events of this film and The King of Thieves. It was very interesting. Especially when it really explores the characters and sends them on multiple adventures and face all sorts of villain's and dangers.
Same way as stitch the movie before the events of the entire series and Leroy and stitch.
Villains *
And King of Thieves was the TV finale, which also happened to be the movie-canon finale as well.
(And the TV animation’s even worse.)
I love the show. Favorite episode of all time has to be "Eye of the Beholder" where Aladdin and Jasmine's love were put to the test.
@@nathancruz9172 “Stitch has a Glitch” might be a midquel between the original movie and “Stitch: the Movie”, as Jumba would end up using household appliances for his personal projects.
I always consider the Aladdin trilogy as the best disney animated trilogy. The stories are good sequels. Or maybe it's nostalgia talking because i always watched them as a kid and still love them.
I agree!! Definitely my favorite too
I also like the Lion king trilogy and honestly I like more the third movie a little more than the second
@@sararomerocovers7096 well, we have to disagree on this one, cuz i always hated the third lion king movie ^^' i never liked timon so when the third move was kinda about him/centered around him, i really hated it. But i respect your taste, i mean a lot of people hate the second beauty and the beast and i kinda like it, so who am i to judge ^^
with aladdin, it feels just like a good follow up with the two sequels, it makes sense and the character arcs are just great to the point i can ignore the not so good visual quality of the animation.
the little mermaid trilogy is also good, tho the last movie is a prequel and in my book a whole trilogy should be sequels to the previous movie. I liked that the movie put the sisters under the spotlight, and it explains why Triton hated humans. it's a good movie once it's tied to the rest.
Return of Jafar is honestly pretty bad, but King of Thieves is really good, for what it is.
Love the twisted parallel between Jafar and Abi and Aladdin and Genie in terms of how their wishedswere granted.
I really love the return of jafar movie, the songs are very amazing. Let Gilbert Gottfried's memory live on in Iago forever and the same thing goes for all of the other characters that he has played through out his life time.
Like Dr. Bender from The Fairly Oddparents.
Jafar does die in this movie, but there is an episode of the Hercules cartoon that gives Jafar another chance to defeat Aladdin.
It takes place after "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" as a crossover episode of the Aladdin and Hercules cartoons.
"Hercules and the Arabian Night"
They decided to get Aladdin and Hercules to fight each other by kidnapping friends of both. Actually quite a good idea to pit heroes against each other.
@@strawberrysoulforever8336 Yup. Jafar is sent to the wrong afterlife(the Underworld)and teams up with Hades, kidnapping the characters friends to get the pair to fight. Abu for Aladdin and Icarus for Hercules.
For a Disney sequel and pilot to the tv show, The Return of Jafar is pretty good in my opinion. Not the best quality like it’s predecessor, but it’s decent enough. It’s a shame that Robin Williams didn’t reprise his Genie role for this film, but at least he’ll return in the next film. To me, Jafar makes this sequel worth while to watch occasionally.🙂
At least in the third one Robin comes back.
True that. Sometimes I can’t believe that the Homer Simpson actor plays Genie
Genies can't do certain things directly. They can't wander too far from their lamps, and they can't move their lamps one their own, hence why Jafar needed Abis Mal to atke him to Agrabah and couldn't save his lamp. They also can't kill directly, hence why Jafar created the lava pit and arranged Aladdin's execution.
Genie:"I can't kill anyone."(Gags as he chops off his own head.) "So don't ask..."
I really enjoyed the 2nd movie. It's good to see that Iago has finally changed and the songs were amazing
🎵🎵🎵❤️❤️❤️
they may not alan menken vibes, but still can be quite fun
18:03 Two types of genies; servants that'll help you and imps that will screw you over.
yes, someone reacting to this movie!
and the death scene is here too with the reaction! 🤩
Fun fact: this movie it was actually a pilot for the show
The power difference between Genie and Jafar is because of the lamp. Since Genie is free, his powers have been reduced (semi-phenomenal nearly-cosmic) but Jafars magic is stronger, ironically, due to the lamp.
But both of them are unable to kill.
@@robbiewalker2831 you’d be surprised with what you could live through.
I wish Jafar could've met Chaos from the TV series, he'd be quivering in his boots!
@@robbiewalker2831 Jafar could have died, and he died because he was still attached to the lamp. When the Blue Goblin said we had to destroy the lamp, they were actually planning to destroy it. But now that our Blue Goblin has been released, he is still immortal, albeit not as cosmic as he used to be (now in semi-active, almost Cosmic form).
Plus, in the first movie, Jafar wish was to be the most powerful genie in the universe, which means, being most powerful then genie
As a kid I had no clue Genie wasn’t voiced by Robin Williams. I was today years old when i found out and am heartbroken.
And at the end...
Abis Mal: "Does this mean I don't get my third wish?"
Jasmine is such a cartoon in this movie.
her original self was much better.
There's actually a fanfic where Jafar as a genie does almost cause someone's death. He couldn't kill her directly, though - she was dropped from a great height. So basically, the fall was what almost killed her, not the genie. She was in a coma for a long time, but since she was the protagonist, she eventually woke up and her injuries started healing.
Damn that sounds metal af, I wanna read that!
@ezrastardust3124 Look up "Don't Rub The Lamp!" There were two stories done of it, but I think they ran out of steam before finishing the third one. It's about two girls who end up in that world. Sarah's the one who almost dies. She also ends up dating Genie - she had a crush on him in her own world because of his great energy. Her friend Lisa is fun too. I love it when she spars verbally with Iago.
So a little bit of context for this one. The reason Robin didn’t voice Genie in this and was instead voiced by Hank Azaria (Homer Simpson) is Disney used his voice for products regarding Genie when he asked them not to and had Genie take up a majority of the marketing of the film. It would take the gifting of a Picasso painting and an apology to Robin to have him come back to voice Genie in the third film.
Also this was basically the pilot film for the Aladdin tv series besides being the continuation of the first film while King of Thieves acts as the finale to the show and conclusion to Aladdin’s story.
For those who read my comment Yes I just realized that I mixed up Hank and Dan.
yea this was a pilot for the series and aladdin and the king of thieves finished it
You mean Dan Castalaneta, right?
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110 Yes.
@@jamesmoyner7499 Okay.
I love how the return of jafar is more darker and edgier than the original. My God jafar is so ruthless and pure evil. I can't wait you reaction to aladdin and the king of thieves
Genie wasn’t voiced by Robin Williams in this movie, but I think the actor that voiced him did alright. It was Homer Simpson’s voice actor. Robin will always be best genie but I thought Homer (dunno his name, so I just call him Homer) was pretty funny
I actually loved this movie. Constantly borrowed it from my local public library
Dan Castalnetta!
In order to vaporize Jafar, his lamp has to be destroyed before Abis mal uses his third wish to set him free
As a 90's kid, this set up the animated series of"Aladdin"for me. The quality of the movie isn't the best, but it's doubtful they would have had the budget to make a series with the budget of the original movie in terms of the animation. One of my favourite series from when I was a kid, with a lot of great stories and more.
Robin Williams didn't come back as Genie until "King of Thieves"because of Disney using his voice for products without his permission. Dan Castelleneta(Homer Simpson)did a pretty good job as a interim Genie, IMO(besides, not sure if Robin would have done a whole series). The rest of the original actors voiced their characters from the movie throughout the series though.
RIP Gilbert Gottfried. As much as "Aladdin"classic is the goodbye to Robin Williams, I feel "King of Thieves"is goodbye for Gilbert, whose evil sidekick became a great character throughout the TV series, often the more selfish member of the party, though with a good side despite all that.
The original plot for "King of Thieves"(without any spoilers)was going to reveal one of the series big villains, Mozenrath(roundly considered "Jafar Junior"as a master of mystic arts and antithesis to Aladdin)was going to be revealed as his older brother. I'm not sure if this was changed before or after the death of Mozenraths voice actor, Johnathan Brandis.)
no, they changed to not tie too much with the TV Series + not being able to contact the VA
"You can't kill me"
"You would be surprised what you can survive"
RIP Gilbert and Robin....man im glad Iago was teh main character here and he wasnt a bad singer!
Iago needs to have a movie of his own
This was Iago's movie. Let's be honest. RIP Gilbert Gottfried
Dan Castellaneta's Genie is underrated in my opinion.
He’s a pretty good VA for Genie. Only Robin Williams was the best.
@@SpacialRend7 Well, obviously.
No one can replace Robin Williams. Will Smith did pretty good though.
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110 Not even close. Robin Williams would've smacked him out to the desert.
Genies's Voice Sound Simallar To Homer Simpson
I wish the quality in this movie was just as cinematic as the first film. Also, I have 2 movie recommendations. Beauty and the Beast & The Lion King
He's already seen Beauty and the Beast
Interestingly, the newer releases of this movie "censored" Jafar's death slightly. Originally he already turned into a skeleton when the camera zooms in on his arm, but the flickering images apparently hurt kids eyes, so on the DVD version they removed the skeleton frames on the first 2 scenes.
yeah, I watched the VHS non-stop as a kid, especially in the death scene
loved the flashy skeleton! 😍
From what I understand the 2005 DVD alterations were a mistake owing to the difference in frame-rate between VHS and DVD, 30 fps versus 24 fps. Most drawings in a hand-drawn film appear for two frames (2s) but certain special effects such as lightning appear for only 1 frame (1s). The missing skeleton shots must have been on 1s so when the frame-rate was pulled down for the DVD the 1s were left out and either no one noticed or no one cared. The skeleton shots that survived must have been on 2s. Ursula's flashing skeleton shot in The Little Mermaid survived because being a theatrical release, The Little Mermaid was 24 fps from the beginning
You should react to Twisted!! It's a stage musical but it's basically Wicked with the Aladdin characters, Jafar being the protagonist and Aladdin being the antagonist! Very funny but also surprisingly emotional at times. It's free on youtube!!
In order to destroy Jafar his lamp must be destroyed before Abis mal wishes him free
I watched this movie many many many times as a kid, probably even more so than the first Aladdin. Having watched this again after many years, I think its just OK now. It is too bad Robin Williams didn't reprise the Genie in this one, but the voice actor didn't do too bad a job. Its just hard to replace someone as special as Robin Williams. Gilbert Gottfried was probably why I watched it so much. His voice is just so amusing.
The actor who voiced Genie in this film is none other than Dan Castellaneta, the guy who voices Homer Simpson.
Keep up the great work Tim! You are the hardest working reactor I have seen. You deserve all your success.
Thanks Jose! Really appreciated
I really hope they make a live action version of this just like they did with the first one so that this is a sequel to the live action aladdin
This movie is a lot of fun
As far as the direct-to-video Disney sequels go, this one was pretty decent. Can't wait to see what you think of the third Aladdin film!
I agree! Return of Jafar was decent. But King of Thieves was much better
Sadly, this started Disney's 14 year reign of terror with their mostly shitty follow ups that no one wanted.
Iago tells Jafar that he’s not his master anymore
Genie was less powerful than Jafar because he'd been freed, his powers were nerfed.
Also you should see Jafar's death from the original 1994 release, this version unfortunately has the toned-down version that was made for the 2005 DVD.
8:00 The man you're thinking about was Musa I or Mansa Musa, the ruler of the Empire of Mali in the 1300s. On his pilgrimage to Mecca, he indeed handed out bagfuls of gold dust to people at Cairo and spent so much of the precious metal at the local marketplaces that the value of gold ended up collapsing for over a decade in the Middle East, even when he tried to buy some of the gold back to ease the situation.
This movie was actually a prequel to the Aladdin tv series
Technically, Aladdin The Animated Series came between this movie, and the third one. You don't need to watch it to understand the third movie. But it does send them on some crazy adventures, and adds other characters. Just off the top of my head, there's the psychotically obsessed, witch, named Sadira. There's the either sorcerer, or wizard, named Mosenrath. There's of course more Abismall. It's a great show!
Jafar reminds me of the Efreet or Ifrit(which he probably is). A very powerful genie based on the elemental fire. With an efreet, your wishes had to be very specificaly worded or they would turn against the wisher. They were deceitful and not very nice, usually.
Jafar didn’t live up to my expectations, being the most powerfull genie ever, he really didn’t do much
Fun fact homer simpson voiced the genie. Not Robin Williams.
They should make a live action remake of the return of Jafar retitled Jafar’s revenge.
Gilbert did voice acting for DC too. He did the voice of Mr Mxsptlyk the Superman animated series. A character from the fifth dimension that tormented Superman. The only way to defeat this villain was outsmart him. You have to get the villain to say his name backwards. That will send the character back to the 5th dimension.
You know glad that i enjoyed this reaction with you Tim, the movie was great it was nice
They should make two new television shows that’s based on Chowder and the marvelous misadventures of flapjack called Iago and pain and panic starring Alan Tudyk Nick Kroll and John Mulaney
Can’t wait to see you watch Aladdin and the king of thieves.
This film was basically the set up for the Aladdin cartoon series. It’s good but you don’t need to see it to watch the third film.
And out of all the Aladdin sequels most people agree that the third movie is miles better even if it's the finale for the Aladdin tv series.
Was rather surprised to find out the Genie wasn't voiced by Robin Williams in this one
This movie led into the TV series which is then followed by the third movie with the King of Thieves
Genie explained that he's not as powerful as he used to be since he got freed, as he says his powers are now only "semi-phenominal, nearly cosmic", meanwhile Jafar has the full "phenominal, cosmic" power of a full-fletched genie, that's why he was able to easily out-match Genie in their musical one on one
By the way, if you have any doubt that Jafar's dead, watch the Disney's Hercules TV show episode "Hercules and the Arabian Night", it's a crossover episode between both the Disney's Hercules and Disney's Aladdin TV shows and shows Jafar meeting Hades after his death in this movie XD
I grew up loving both franchizes, so it's definitely a highlight for me (that and the dynamic between Jafar and Hades is gold, pff)
I wish you would check out Team StarKids' musical parody of Aladdin (and Disney in general, for that matter) called Twisted. It is basically the story of Aladdin told from Jafar's POV. It would make you see Aladdin and Hagar differently. There is bad language and "adult" situations, but the acting and music/songs and everything is totally worth it.
The man you were talking about is Mansa Musa, the richest man to ever live.
This Is my fav one of the series. Oh my god god, you made a reaction to Aladdin 2 and ItsTotally Cody! made a reaction to Wolfwalkers, today couldn't be better 🙆
Fun Fact: Genie Is Voiced By The Same Actor Who Voice Homer Simpson
this movie is the pilot for the tv series that is not on disney plus and the 3rd is the ending for eveyrything
Oh I have a theory that since Jafar wished to be the most powerful being in the universe, he’s slightly more powerful than genie
There’s a video game called Aladdin: Narsira’s Revenge. You play as Aladdin, Jasmine, and Abu with help from the Genie as you battle the evil witch Nasira and prevent her from reviving her brother Jarfar. Too bad that actually wasn’t a film or a TV special. It actually pays homage to the original story of Aladdin.
👳🏽👸🏻🐒🧞♂️🧙🏽♀️🐍
Thank you I haven't seen this since I was a kid.
33:34 Remember, the sultan is supposed to be dead, and that's why Aladdin is getting executed.
Jafar won’t be Iago‘s master much longer.
It seems to me that if this film had been released as a pilot series broken into parts and not a VHS sequel, then nothing would have changed. By the way, during the first viewing I even noticed the difference between the voice of Castellaneta and the voice of Williams.
Even though I don’t like the music in Return of Jafar as much as it’s predecessor, the only songs in this movie I like are “Arabian Nights” of course and Jafar’s song “You’re Only Second Rate”
At least Jafar got a song this time. And no the Prince Ali reprise doesn't exactly count.
Rest in peace Gilbert Gottfried
On the VHS for The Return of Jafar his death is more brutal as we see his skeleton multiple times there is a end credit scene as we see Abis Mal still in the tree
I always loved this sequel, but never understood why the animation quality was worse than the first movie
RIP Gilbert Gottfried
Goof: in first movie ending, genie loses his hand collars, but there back
Genie could have decided to create a new set of hand collars that are there just to look stylish at some point on his world trip.. his design does look better (to me at least) with the blue broken up by gold…
I can't wait for the 3rd movie for the Aladdin trilogy reaction. 😍
The voice actor for Genie in this movie is the same voice actor for homer Simpson
Love this movie know it word for word
I love this movie. It was one of my first vhs.
R.I.P Gilbert Godfrey aka Iago
One thing I think this movie has over the first one is that they actually gave Jafar his own villain song, instead of, y'know, just a reprise of a previous one.
I love watching this film!
This is my favourite aladdin movie 🎬
Mine too because this is to dedicate Gilbert Gottfried’s death
dan who voices genie in this one voice homer simpson! and it was a contract thing with robin! the series also had dan!
The implication is while Jafar isn't free, he has more power I think
I'd say that Dan Castellaneta here (AKA Homer Simpson) is also a pretty good Genie too, nearly as good as Robin Williams.
PS, the stereotypes part during Genie's song in this film is all in good fun, and not really "insensitive". Believe me, I've seen people of those ethnicities enjoy this kind of stuff.
Nowadays, pussies would've cried "Cultural appropriation!" or that the Chinese stereotype is so bad that even Rob Schneider's Chinese waiter from Eight Crazy Nights would be offended which is untrue because that one was even worse.
Please react to Aladdin and the king of thieves
Second Rate’s a good villain song and unlike the first one, it’s not a reprise
Oh yeah he back
I always will enjoy all the Aladdin movies but first is a classic and the show for me was so much fun it will always be my favorite Disney TV show (even tho there's sooo many good ones)
I heard they are making a sequel to the live action Aladdin remake too. Borrowing elements from “The Return of Jafar”, and “Aladdin And the King of Thieves” as well, but it’s not a direct remake. It’ll be more like an original sequel.
And now the Rock as the Genie.

This movie was definitely not as good as the original from the animation,to the characters and the story itself, but I will give this to Dan Castellaneta He is trying his hardest and he is decent but he doesn’t come close to Robin Williams

I always liked this sequel because I’m very interested in characters like Iago, a sidekick that gets redeemed but still has a distinct personality. In fact, when I was a teen I wrote a fanfic where it’s the same plot basically in the beginning but Iago is a human (and a female lol), idk what was wrong with me tbh haha.
