- The small flag on the the Tiger, is the flag of the company which renovated Tiger 131,sure is a nice sight to see a Leopard prowling around a Tiger.
filmed in 2004. The small flag on the Tiger has Avro on it, which is the company which helped renovate this tank. Авто/Мото
The "Tiger" still leaves me in total awe at how awesome it was and is 73 years after the end if ww2 amazeing machine.
🇩🇪🖤❤💛
In the first few seconds you can imagine how a soldier would feel seeing that barrel appear
They have fixed the engine now, its running well.
I do love the Tiger I, it's just so impressive to any Tanker, even the top Military personnel today would be scared of it.
But the 88 mm, one scary weapon.
The T-34 was a simple design for a tank. It was built with the idea of getting huge numbers out quickly. The Tiger and Tiger II were technologically superior, but far more expensive. Both tanks represented a different philosophy and approach to warfare.
Not exactly... sure a Tiger had more armor, a bigger gun, and had better communications on the field. the Soviets generally had better armor than German Panzerkampfwagen's.
"the Soviets generally had better armor than German Panzerkampfwagen's." examples?
@@ValentineC137 *T 150 to a Panzer II*
@@RFFSA_SR7 I know it's propably a joke but.
the single T-150 prototype was constructed in 1941, and possesed 90mm of armor, around the same time as the Tiger 1 with it's 100mm
@@ValentineC137 *It is a joke lol*
I can't even begin to imagine what a young allied soldier would have felt see a Tiger breaking through a hedge...Brave men.
Have to go to Bovington, man, they look well preserved. Thanks for posting!
With the crap state of the roads in Derby now, I could do with a Tiger. Damn useless council.
God damn it if I was rich I'd buy one of these and drive it in my back yard it's better than any state of the art sports car.
Too bad Tiger 131 is the only one that has survived...
+Ominethious Calistian I believe there are other tiger's that did sruvive the war,But where the allies put the Remaining tanks Tiger,Panzers,Panther,etc...
I do not know.
But I do know there were a good sizable amount of Tigers and Panthers that did survive the war as well as Jagdpanthers and Jagdtigers too.
I beleive Tiger Is and Tiger IIs and several types of the Panthers were indeed intact after the war.
You might want to demand /ask the so called leaders still alive what happend to them....
P.s. about 2,000 Tiger II's were left on the battlefield after bulge ended. There was no fuel to run them.....
Ask what happend to them.
Agent Hunk a Running, Tiger.. There are no other Tiger's that are in operable condition. Sure, the husks of some Panzers are intact, that does not mean you can just go find a Tiger II bogged down in a swamp for 70 years.
Frank Castle Tiger I.. Jesus Christ..
Excellent video! Panzer IIIs with their quick speed made fine recce vehicles for the Tiger Companies. So it's nice to see a Tiger and a lighter Pz III paired up again. The sound of the Tiger's Meybach engine is VERY distinct (when running right).
was there, that day, great memory...
60+ years and still as badass as it was rolling out of the factory :D
Since I last watched this video I did a ton of research on tanks since last watching this and I definitely get it now thank you.
The Tiger-Grandpa and Leopard-grandson met)
I quite imagine when the allies heard the roar of the tiger engine, they soon called in the heavy stuff to deal with them. Just sounds awe inspiring even with it out of tune.
awesome vid! thanks!
@turboslag The engine developed a problem called pinking, not sure what that means.
At shows in later years the engine sounded great.
GREAT channel man ;-)
thats still 1 badass tank! would love to own 1
those are soooo cool looking
that Tiger was used in 'Fury'.
veteran2000 yes!!!!! :D

Weird Science likely that the shell wasn't "explosive." It was likely solid penetrator as in solid metal which means no boom besides the original boom that made it go fast.
WOW! The tiger is massive!
much, much more, sir!
Panzers need some love too! I will forever love the Tiger 1 but Panzer IIIs are still pretty menacing despite being light tanks
Yes MBT stands for Main Battle Tank, during WW2, it could be used for Medium Battle Tank. The M1 Abrams entered production in 78, the M1-A1 in 85 and M1-A2 in 93. The Leo2 entered production in 79 and the Leo2 A6 up-grade started in 2000 with first vehicles entering service in 2001.
300,000 man hours of excellence in one Tiger 1.
Impresionante tanque!.
@JojotAndTetoj That was a very interesting article by Suvorov, thanks for the heads-up.
That must have been a terrifying sound in WW2 but i personally think that today it sounds kinda like my old RC racecar. lol though nice vid.
@Wonkabar007
Its also called Engine Knocking. It refers to the problem when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion cylinder.
Must be hella fun to ride one of these
These beautiful tanks were supposed to bring back to Germany because they are there. Thanks for the video. :)
As you can see this tiger is a mere infant in just a few short years it will grow to be a badass heavy tank
I couldnt have said it any better, you read my mind while i watched this upload.
( btw thnx Wonkabar007 for the video, more please :)
that is one big ass tank!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! A TIGER WORKING
i know bro, it brakes my heart when i see such a great tank in that condition =(
Panzer III is also pretty sexy! I think it looks better than the boxy Panzer IV.
A funny fact of the leopard 1 is that the first construction plans were made by ferdinand porsche in 1943. they only added some new technological stuff like night vision and used a new maingun but it's design is from 43.
wow, i didn´t know that there are still Tiger Panzer which can drive. nice toy!
greets from germany
Sie sind die besten!
She's a remarkably delicate old dear. Having felt the disappointment at travelling to see rare stuff run, and then having it break down, I'm glad they treat her with kid gloves on her rare public promenades. Spares for that temperamental engine not exactly being easy to find, and remanufacturing being incredibly expensive.
Just cruising around gently at tankfest has caused 131 some obvious discomfort and broken bits, but the chaps displaying her do their damndest to keep things rolling.
There are 3 tigers still running, out of the 6 left in the world. The one in the video is at Bovington Tank Museum , UK. Saumer is in France. The Bovington Tiger was completely stripped down to the last nut and bolt and rebuilt by British Army 2001 - 2006, with every last detail attended to. The Maybach crankcase blew when they started it. Another engine was rebuilt and was not running properly during this demonstration. See the Bovinton Tank Museum site for restoration history.
spaced armour can enhance the effect of heat as the shaped charge relies on a stand of distance from the surface of the armour to create the hot jet which cuts thru the armour
that's a legend!
@turboslag It's possible that you're hearing the sound from the tracks. On WW2 tanks you often didn't hear the engine roar so much as you heard a clinking sound from the tracks when they rolled.
This Tiger runs on its original engine, making it very temperamental, thus the backfiring.Lottery funding for its renovation was only allowed if the original engine was used.
This is Tiger Tank 131.Based at the Bovington Tank Museum in England.
Notice the track movement, Tiger turns smoothly, the slower track run smoothly but the panzer III turns in stop motion at one tracks.
My grandfather shot on of this Tigers on ISU-152 :)
The Leopard is a worthy successor of the legacy of the German "cats". Amazing what fine designers of armored vehicles the germans are. The fact that our own American M1 Abrams uses a Rheinmetall gun.
@Blabloo72 Thats an interesting point, could the 88mm penetrate the modern reactive armour.
Gotta love these tanks. I like how most (if not all) of the german tanks in the WWII era are named after animals in the cat family.
impresionantes !
Вот бы на королевском тигре в моей деревне покататься. Было бы здорово. Поля, березы и рокот двигателя майбах HL230.
it sounds like the tiger motor has some broken pistons ^^
awessome
Those backfires though.
@AttackShipOnFire i can imagine, tiger beast.... there´s also a nice vid from the canadian tank forces who leave the base with around 10 leopards.
that sound of the machines is freakin awesome....
All I have to say, is that back in the 40's seeing a Tiger must have been sheer Terror for the opposing forces... those lucky enough to see one that is.
nice tank
This thing is under constant maintenance, it runs quite well.
It's mainly a matter of the fact that the Tiger was king in his day.The tanks you mentioned were'nt around in it's day. That's the evolution of technology for you.
oh, thats a very early model of the leopard! its a leo 1, since that they moved on to leo 2, and the most rescent version is the leo 2 A6.
the tiger is such a beast seeing it irl is like woowwowoh i was at war and peace and one drove past me an a bunch of people and just flattned a water barrel marking the edge of the arina, the barrel poped with it just having mearly touched the treds
@pvtsoap262 The tank museum, next to Bovington camp.
old warriors never die!
its the engine. listen at 1:27 when he throtles up and the tank isnt moving. its the pistons misfiring or the fuel leaks into the cilender when its in the down position and it ignites off the heat in the cilender so with the piston down the exost valve is open so u hear the fuel igniting and thats that poping.
@fro16883 This is a real one captured in WW2, a shell hit it and jammed the turret, so the crew abandoned it, but didn't destoy it the allies captured it and sent it back to England.
Thats a good test of a tank, can it take a hit from one of its own.
@wolfyys
yeah! the weight caused problems with the transmisoin!
Popping sounds if it is natural, then for a Tiger I imagine it to be very good at scaring troops during wwII.And whoever did the restoration on the Tank had to have some training from a German who did motorpool service in the wehrmacht during the second world war.The paint job is as close so you can get for historical and the maintenence is good.
Good job guys.
yes that's from where it had been recently installed also many maybachs did have a history for this sound
Billiebob if you are talking about the tank engagement in cologne i think it went like this, the panther was looking down the Main Street but had its body facing another direction an d then it fired one round i think at the Sherman, then on the street to the left of the panther a m10 wolverine tank destroyer got called up to push the right flank of the panther
i did not say he designed the whole tank.
but it's shape is almost identical with drafts from ferdinant porsche dated on 1943.
And it never got further than a draft because in those days it was impossible to really construct such a thing in high quantities because metal industrie was not modern enough to deal with that task.
and the rest (engine, gun, armor, electronic) was developed and produced later on.
German engineering is unmatched & undiluted. Its the best. Centuries after Centuries they have proved the best in engineering marvel. Long live Germany. With love from India.. SG
Nice Tiger replica, the real tanks...nice
Since they do so much wonderful work on these tanks it would be nice to see them in an appropriate setting...that would not be hard to do.
the HESH round does not send splinters into the tank but a rather large piece of the armour get broken off and destroys the interior . a spall liner would have no protection against hesh but spaced armour does
@kw0s It sounds like either a missfire or backfire from the engine. The tracks were relativly quiet due to the rubber lined roadwheels. But to me it sounds more like there.s a timing issue with the engine.
klingt als würde die Tiger-Crew Popcorn zubereiten! :)
Yeah for sure. Don't get me wrong, I love the Tiger tank, its toss up between that and the Panther (the panther's gun actually had better effect against other tanks than the 88 on the Tiger I). But it is an awesome tank all the same and it terrified the allies to no end.
@Scioneer Pop ups are funny, often I see adverts for septic tanks on videos of military tanks.
the original engine of the Tiger was cut up long ago to show the insides for display but a replacement was found which promptly blew up but as you can see is now working.
@SteveSabbai Just had a look at "World of Tanks" good fun for sure.
Having actually served in the british army as a driver gunner loader on a chieftain main battle tank and fired HESH and also seen the inside of a hard target after being hit by different types of round i KNOW the effects and the difference between small splinters of spall and the utter devastation of a large scab from the interior of the armour,
@RifledBarrel, Sounds like they've fitted the Tiger with a popcorn maker for the comfort of the crew.
The folks that paid for the tank restoration, insisted that a original WW2 tiger engine must be used,as you can imagine it is very tempermental, sometimes backfiring alot.
@deadmike73
"yeah! the weight caused problems with the transmission!"
thats because it was a rush job and they used a transmission made for tanks 20 tons lighter.
The king tigers failures resided in the fact it was a rush job, they could have made it far more reliable if they didnt have the time and resource problems due to the war.
Just a random statistic:
The Abram's armor is rated at about 1000-1500 mm of rolled homogeneous steel armor, the kind that WW2 tanks used. Tiger I had about 25-120 mm of RHAe, Tiger II about 25-185 mm. The armor penetration of a 8.8cm KwK 43 that the Tiger II used is 200 mm at 100 meters.
Apart from the 5 Tigers simply blasting everything off the Abrams to incapacitate it, I don't see them wining. In any case the Abrams would probably destroy them in about a minute.
@havoc69a Panzer actually means armor. They used it as short for tank. Panzerkampfwagen means tank.
It's the Panzer making the noise when the Tiger is stationary.
@BigAndTall666 Apologies but it was the schwere panzer Abteilung 504 . The 501st were using the initial production Tiger which had slight differences to the early production model which is this one shown .
@Gezoes Bovington is a first class museum I go there every year . You wont be disappointed my friend .
@Artist334 Yes, that is correct and is depicted in many books; tank 131 captured in april 1943 from 501.st schwere panzer abteilung in tunesia....Nice to see a well documented tank actually moving instead of a mock tank painted to "look like famous tank". :-)
I think you should study the Challenger II. Many regard it as the best tank in the world, it's waaaaay tougher than an abrams and has proved this in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a story out there of one challenger II being mobbed by 15 rpg's, and all that happened to it was it lost it's radio receiver. It was taken back for repairs and was in service again 6 hours later.
Many Abrams that got hit with the same tactics were destroyed.
3:50, that flag over the tank stands for what I must ask...
@Wonkabar007
Is the leopard in the video a modern version, or the one in the german blueprints from WW2?
i tell ya what, that tiger aint stopping for no one!
damn i cant find videos like this with the king tiger (tiger II)
