I was told by an old RAF Thunderbolt pilot who flew them in Burma that on long and boring missions, he would pass the time by trying to count all the dials and switches.
2000 horsepower the tractor trailer I used to drive had 350HP and while its diesel so its more powerful in torgue range it still shows this beasts off!
A 350 hp diesel truck does not produce torque comparable to the R-2800. If it's making 2,000 hp at 2,700 rpm, that works out to something like 3,890 lb-ft of torque, a figure that well outstrips any commercial truck on the roads today. :p
A bit of trivia is that although the P-47 was the largest single-engine fighter of the war, the F6F actually had the largest wing area, which makes sense since it was designed to deal with the very maneuverable Japanese fighters.
@@PoochAndBooSure, it began before the war started, but development didn’t finish before the war… Grumman interviewed Wildcat pilots during development to find out what was needed to fight the Zero. Among other things, the engine was changed to the R-2800 to outperform the Zero.
@@PoochAndBoo Thanks for the reply. I think that even before the actual attack on Pearl Harbor, war with Japan was probably considered the chief threat that the U.S. would have to face. I would imagine that the Grumman engineers knew what kind of fighters the Japanese had. In any case, I was merely pointing out the odd fact that the Hellcat had a bigger wing than the heavier P-47 which, ceteris paribus, would give it an edge in maneuverability at the expense of top speed.
@@jaysmith4302 Jay, believe it or not, the U.S. knew next to nothing about Japanese airpower. The Zero came as a huge shock...even though Chanault had been sending information on this new fighter to the U.S. Racism caused them to disbelieve this information. There was just no way that Japanese could design the fighter that he described.
The P-47D is definitely Aeroplane Heaven's best work yet. But I do think with a improved sound set and lower price it would be amazing. I think most people would be OK with there no being no systems depth as long as its has a believable sound set, believable flight model, and great texturing (it already has two of those things). Planes like Shrike Sim's F86 and GF's Wildcat are perfect examples of that. The idling and outside sounds of this P47 are great, they really just need to fix the interior sounds and add some sounds to the switches.
Why razorback? I imagine the bubble top canopy would be much more popular. I would love to see what Got Friends could do with a P-47 considering their amazing wildcat and price point.
I was just thinking today how people tend to release earlier versions of warbirds. I don’t know why you wouldn’t want the later paddle bladed bubble top that can run 72 inches of manifold pressure. Maybe even go with the M for added fun.
I think AH have made an attempt at a decent engine sound set. I couldn't hear the inertial starter spool up? but everything else sounded amazing inc that lumpy idle at low throttle settings. I think I may have to get this. Thanks

Wait wrong side... fucking hell I studied Geography too. >> Western tip. I am struggle with directions ok? :D I'm from Yorkshire, its got no wet stuff.
Looks great. But the razorback Jugs didn't have a button to operate the canopy. You had to slide it back and forth manually. Not sure why AH did that. The P47 was a seven ton beast. RAF pilots used to joke that if U.S. pilots wanted to avoid German bullets, they could just unstrap from their seat, and run around inside the fuselage!
There is no button, those are clickspots to just move it fully after or forward quickly, you can click and drag it manually... so its not a button no, just convinience. And it was 8 tons not 7 :)
@@AvAngel Ah, click spot. I would like it to have been on the pullcord behind the pilots head. At least you'd get the feeling of reaching back there to yank it closed. It's really nice, though. I'm a big Thunderbolt fan!

I was a guard on the flight line when I was in and we'd count the rivets on a 12 hour guard shift... Similar energy 😂😅
Glad the Airshow Assistant is working on the 47 for you! Thank you for the review.
Looks like a solid effort from AH. Would have prefered the bubble canopy, but I guess others prefer the razorback 😄
the razorback was produced in far greater numbers throughout most of the Thunderbolts life.
Greater number, sure, but «far greater»? Around 7000 bubble canopy P-47s were built out of a total of 15600.

I love MSFS, but I have this Model on DCS that is more functional with many missions and live ammo. But she is Pretty.
