Hey George your videos are so addictive i had not used my elements 12 in ages and now i cant leave it alone trying out all your fun projects recommending you to my nephew who at the age of 11 is just beginning his journey into the world of Photoshop.
Thanks! Elements is a great little program. Even though I do all of my professional work in Adobe Photoshop due to its greater capabilities I actually enjoy Photoshop Elements more. Glad to hear your nephew is getting into image editing, it will be required knowledge for the young generation. George
You're welcome John, all of my more advanced and complicated projects use combinations of simple techniques like this. So valuable to have a good understanding of them. George
For sure, George! I've been doing as many of your projects as I can and learning all the way. All of these techniques and styles you insert into these videos are highly appreciated. It is all fascinating!
So very clear, as always, George. But I could not figure out how to save the finished image. I get the "hidden" parts as part of the save. If that makes sense.
Hi Jess, first save the file to the default psd file format, that way you save all the layers for future editing if you want. Next do a Save As to jpg or what other format you need, that will save the file just the way it looks in the main window. Some formats like .tiff will also save all the layers, but most formats will flatten the image on save
Bravo!!! Great tutorial George, you really helped me fill in some knowledge gaps on clipping mask. I have wondered why at times, I would not get my desired effect. Now I know, it has to do with the blank background. Excellent use of other tools also, brush, custom frames, gradients, and gradient maps. Great lesson, thanks for all you do! Rich
You're welcome Rich, I did a previous video on this subject over a year ago before I went HD on RUclips. Thought it was time for an update, plus did a little different take on it this time. George
im just learning can you tell me how you would cut out the shape layer (layer 2) from a background and leave a hole shaped like the clipping mask? I have tried everything I just cant figure it out. I'm using my moms photoshop elements 2019. thank you.
Here is the best way. Click on the shape layer to select it, now hold the ctrl key and click on the layer thumbnail. That will select the shape on that layer. Now click on the background layer, the selection should still be active. Go to the Select Menu and choose Invert, This reverses the selection, now click the Layer Mask button above the Layer Panel to make a layer mask using that selection. Now hide your shape layer. What you will have is a layer mask that is using the shape of your shape to cut a hole in the background layer. But since it is on a layer mask you can undo it if you want just by deleting the layer mask, so the background layer isn't damaged. Check out this video ruclips.net/video/h7kSODdGPmo/видео.html
Hey George do you use on 1 shoot raw? I try to use my braker key for increase or decrease my pencil and no wanna work. What you think is the problem? Thanks
Hi Victor, I don't have any experience with the 1 shoot so I can't give any advice on that but if it shoots in raw format then that is what you should use. When you bring that into Photoshop Elements it will be converted to the regular Photoshop Elements format since PSE cannot work on Raw files directly except in the Open in Camera Raw utility. To increase or decrease your paint brush or pencil size while working use the [ and ] keys. The [ key will make the brush size smaller and the ] key will make the brush size larger. George

How To Gurus I know this but if not working in my computer.
Hi Victor, make sure that the Caps Lock key is not on. That would be giving you { and } instead of [ and ]
George
What's the difference between using a clipping mask and just using a layer mask blocking the area you want not to show?
They will both work. Which you choose depends on the picture. If you have text or a shape then the clipping mask is much faster.
