Really good tutorial. Thank you. I may have to watch this several times but I will learn a lot from it. I feel once I learn my way around the tools I can tinker my way through much better

Thanks for the Video. I currently think about getting Photoshop Elements 2021, because I still work with Photoshop 6.0. This basicly looks very much like the old one I know.
Hi Stephanie, Photoshop Elements is very similar to Photoshop 6 but it is far simpler. You will lose a lot of tools and options if you go to Elements. A good compromise is to get Elements and Affinity Photo. Elements is much better at the creative stuff and Affinity Photo is much better at the Photo work, the combination of the two gets you much closer to the capabilities of Photoshop.
Thanks Rich, I am getting lots of new subscribers, usually more than 30 a day. Many of those subscribers are just starting out with Photoshop Elements so I put several of the more common questions I get into this video to get everyone onto the same page to follow my project videos. George
You got no business unless you get new business! I was in sales for 28 years and as my boss told me long ago, the hardest door to open is your own car door! I applaud your efforts and wisdom to get and help the new folks, that's what it's all about! When RUclips changed their model some adapted and found ways to make the most of it, others just gave up. I am glad that you are getting more and more viewers. I would say the thing that helped me the most was to purchase your DVD and online tutorials. You are a trainer so it goes beyond teaching, you put the brush in my hand and that is how one learns. Very good teacher! You make PSE easy-to-understand, so thank you. I was impressed with your teaching style so I bought your 30$ program :) looking forward to all the modules!!! I hope you’re getting compensated well for these tutorials as this took a lot of time and effort. -Thanks from Iowa!
Thank You Aaron! Actually I hardly get compensated at all for the PSE videos on RUclips, except for people like you who go over and get my training course. That is what keeps the channel going. The Minecraft videos have been added in with a hope that they would finally bring in some usable ad revenue and that has been proving correct. The Minecraft videos bring in about 3.5x the ad revenue the PSE videos bring. So that really helps out for the channel, but the ad revenue is still only about 15% of my income, the other 85% is sales of the training courses. So thank you again for supporting my efforts here by getting the course, I really do appreciate that.
Thank you for this info! I just got Elements 20 (used 16 in the past) and I have a project to surprise my artist mother-in-law for hr birthday using this software. Was lost but I think you're saving me! :)

George, this is the first video of yours that I have seen. Very well done! I am currently using PSE ver 10 along with Topaz software. I am considering upgrading to PSE 2022 and wanted to make sure there was no loss in functionality in the Expert Mode. Based on your video, it looks like it's a safe upgrade. I do have a few questions: 1. Can PSE 2022 coexist on a Windows platform with PSE ver 10? (This would be short term). 2. Does PSE 2022 still support links to external software such as Topaz products? 3. Does PSE 2022 still support creation of Panoramas? Thanks so much.
Hi James, you can keep both versions of PSE on your computer, no problems with that. In PSE 11 Adobe greatly simplified the program and it is not as feature rich as version 10. PSE still supports external software and plugins. PSE still does Panoramas. You should try the free 30 day trial first to see if you like the new version before shelling out the bucks. Go to this page www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html and scroll down below the FAQ section and you will see the trial links to the left of the social media icons.
Very nice tutorial...Tip #1 is no longer valid in PSE 2021 since Adobe has not provided a way to bypass Welcome screen and go directly into the Photo Editor or the Organizer. Workaround is adding a shortcut to the actual exe on your desktop.
@@utopia113 You're welcome. I wish that Adobe hadn't removed that option, but they wanted to have that space in the upper left of the Home Screen to run ads for Photoshop
Hi Patrice, I am coming out with my new 2021 training in a couple of weeks but it is mostly the same as my current 2020 training. Very little has changed between versions, just some new features that I am showcasing in a RUclips video going up this evening
Going to buy pse do you suggest also getting the video editing as well for a little more money. This will be my first time using this program so am super excited and like how you explain things
Hi David, nothing special about that. Just do your image at the size you want for a finish and I would recommend using 300 ppi for the resolution. Aside from that you would need to look at the fabric transfer paper, or talk to someone at a professional company for any other requirements. For instance if you were going for a large print run on T Shirts that would be printed using silk screen then you would need a file that could be color separated, or spot color separated, so you would probably want to use Adobe Photoshop or an illustration program like Adobe Illustrator for that. If you are just going for an iron on then you would be able to use Photoshop Elements, just check to see if you need to reverse the image or not before printing. George
George, I was so happy to learn a trick for turning off the Welcome Screen, so I can go right to edit. But, on mine (version 2018), that little gear looking icon is not in the upper right of the welcome screen? Them, if I go the welcome screen from within the help menu, all it does is bring up the welcome screen all over again. I don't seem to see or have the ability to control this as seen in your video? Any ideas?
Hi RS, since I posted this video Adobe removed the ability to bypass the welcome screen. My guess is that they want more options to push ads at you. In any case, here is how you can get around that in the newer versions of PSE ruclips.net/video/NU7sapsdolw/видео.html
Hi George. EXCELLENT video. Question, may I create an ebook from this video? I teach in Germany and just LOVE your RUclips videos. Of course, I‘d be happy to add links to your online courses.
Hi, Thanks! You can use my videos as part of your research for creating an ebook but you cannot use the video as the source of your ebook. All of my videos are copyrighted and I am working on creating my own book on Photoshop Elements right now. Besides any ebook you create would be better and more interesting for your readers if it was completely your own creation and not copied from someone else. So, learn from my videos, be inspired by my videos, then go out and create your own great work, that is what it is really all about. George
New user to Premiere Elements 2021. Where exactly is the layers panel? You state that it is important but I cannot find the option. I have tried Window but there are not many options there. Certainly not like it showed in your video. What am I missing? One other question for anyone who knows????? What is the phone number to contact support in Canada? Zero options available on their website
First, just to clarify, this video is for Photoshop Elements, not Premiere Elements, which is a video editing program. In Photoshop Elements the Layers panel is available in the Window menu and also from a button in the lower right corner of the program. I will be starting posting Premiere Elements videos on RUclips next month. Sorry, no idea on an Adobe contact phone number for Canada
Thanks for these videos. I have Elements 12 that I' never could use because it killed my old MacBook. I've just gotten a new computer and would like to know if you think I should hold off until I can afford to upgrade to 15 or 18 instead of installing 12. I am super new to Photoshop. Thanks in advance!
Hi Denise, nothing wrong with Photoshop Elements 12, go ahead and give it a try on your new computer. Most of my RUclips video projects will work fine in 12. If after getting to know the program you decide you want the latest version that would be the time to upgrade but I would give what you have a try first. George www.howtogurus.com
You're welcome! Also Adobe has a one month free trial of most of their programs, including the new Photoshop Elements 2018, so you can always give it a road test before purchasing. No problem having more than 1 copy of Photoshop Elements on your computer at the same time, I currently have 4 different versions on my system. So, go ahead and install 12 then when you are in the mood give 2018 a try for 30 days before you plunk down the cold hard cash. You can find the link for Photoshop Elements on Adobe.com way down at the bottom of the home page in the footer links section. George
Hi George, I just purchased PSE 2020. Although I’ve saved and enjoyed Very Much all your PAE 2019 tutes, I haven’t yet taken the time to master it. I’m pretty much an old lady beginner. Could I hire you on a personal consult basis to teach me PSE 2020?
Hi Bonnie, I am sorry but I don't do personal consulting. The best way to learn Photoshop Elements is with my training course: www.georgepeirson.com/photoshop-elements-online-courses/ George
Working off a card reader, in DPP, I can bypass EOS, and immediately see images/thumbnails from the card. In PSE, I see file numbers, when I'd much prefer to see the thumbnails they represent. So, is it possible to see the thumbnails in PSE, so that I may see and select from them, the images I'd like to process? If so, how? Many thanks!!
Hi, the Elements Organizer comes up as thumbnails by default. If you are using the Elements Editor then that brings up a normal Windows drive window, so just set your view settings to Large Icons. The drive window that opens when you select Open from the File menu is a normal Windows window, not part of Elements.
Yeah, I know. Adobe removed that option button in Photoshop Elements 2019. They want to force you to see that welcome screen because it now also includes ads for Adobe products. But you can work around that by putting a direct link to the Organizer and a direct link to the Editor on your desktop. Here is a video on how to do that ruclips.net/video/NU7sapsdolw/видео.html
@@HTGGeorge thank you so much I will wait for the notification button. Please include how to put a youtube logo or subscribe logo on the thumbnail when using photoshop. I really appreciate. Thanks.
@@FitnessFlifestyle You're welcome. The subscribe logo is placed by RUclips. It is a setting that you can turn on or off in the RUclips Studio. On the main Studio page go to Settings, then click on the Channel tab, then click on the Branding link. That is where you can add the subscribe button and choose where to place it. I have mine set to come on 5 seconds into the video, no real reason for that but I think if it pops up after the video starts more people may see it but I don't have any stats to confirm that. If you want to use your own file then click on the Replace link. The best format is jpg and RUclips will resize the image to fit. The subscribe image cannot have transparency, it will just show up as black. I don't know if you have to reach any specific level on RUclips in order to add this, it has been 7 years since I added mine, things may have changed. Some things in RUclips require that you have a minimum number of subscribers, or views, I don't know if this is one of those.
I have Elements 15 but have "lost" the right side of the screen where the layers should show up when in expert mode. I can't figure out what I did and how to get it back. Can you help? Thanks.
PSE converts my CR2 to DNG. What is the process to convert from the DNG to a a TIFF, and subsequently a JPEG, without having to resort to third-party, possibly malicious, converters? Great tutorial - will "follow" you. Thanks
Hi, the best way to handle a CR2 file is to use the Open in Camera Raw option in the File menu. That is also a great place to do most of your photo adjustments, it is kind of like a mini-lightroom. When you are done with your adjustments click the Open Image button in the bottom right corner. That will open the image in the Photoshop Elements editor where you can save it out as a Tiff or Jpeg. I recommend first saving the file in the native PSD file format so that you can retain the highest image quality in case you want to go back and do more editing in the future.
@@HTGGeorge Still have a problem (Elements 15, W10) re: CR2 files, opening in Camera Raw. I get a alpha numerical list of files of the images. What do I need to do to have THUMBNAILS displayed so that I may choose from among them to enhance? And - how to place two images side-by-side to compare them? Many thanks and stay safe!
@@usernamemykel Hi, the drive window that opens is a normal Windows window, just change the view setting to Large Thumbnail. Click open in Camera Raw to open the drive window, now on the right side under the search box you will see some icons. Click on the one on the left side of that group, it has a down arrow beside it. That is the View setting. Change that to Large Thumbnail. Camera Raw can only open 1 image at a time, you can view that image as before and after by clicking on the Y icon just below the bottom right corner of the image, that cycles through the different view settings in the Raw editor, one of the settings is before/after. If you want to look at a different image at the same time you can first open your comparison image in Photoshop Elements, then open the working image in the Raw editor as that floats above the Elements window.
@@HTGGeorge George, I just need a little bit more clarification about Photoshop Elements 15. You've previously told me to open images in ORGANIZER, rather than EDITOR. It appears that images in my card reader (which consists of RAW & JPEG files) cannot be opened via ORGANIZER. They have to be opened via OPEN> Camera RAW (which I've successfully done, thank you). Images that CAN be opened via ORGANIZER are ONLY those which I have PREVIOUSLY down/uploaded to my Windows Photo App. Is that correct? Thanks in advance!
@@usernamemykel Hi, the Raw files need to be opened using Open in Camera Raw since Photoshop Elements doesn't directly support that format. Jpg files can be directly opened in the Photoshop Elements Editor using the Open option. The Organizer is used to organize your images, not open them but the Organizer can be used to open images in the editor. Normally Organizer shows images that are in your Pictures folder on your computer and images that have been opened in the Editor. You can add more images into the Organizer by using the Import command in the Organizer. You aren't actually importing the images though you are merely letting Organizer know where they are and Organizer links to them. I don't have very many videos here on RUclips about the Organizer but I cover it completely in my training courses.
Hi RowanTree, Photoshop Elements 15 is a great upgrade from 13 (except for the problem with the recent file list, I have a video up on a temp fix for that). The best new feature is the ability to use layer groups in the layers panel, makes organizing more complex projects much easier. Also love the Facial Features tool, just magical. Here is my video on the top new features in PSE 15: ruclips.net/video/Ry2neECNquA/видео.html George
Hi, If you can hold out until the end of October I would recommend it. Adobe releases their new versions in October, I don't know if they are coming out with a PSE 16 this year or not, but if they do it will be released in October. George
Hi, this video is about Photoshop Elements, which is different from Adobe Photoshop. Both are from Adobe but they are different programs. But to answer your question, all of my training courses start with the very basics and are designed for people who are new to the program.
I'm trying to learn how to use Elements 2020 on a Mac. Are your instructions for Windows only? For example, it doesn't look like I can set up floating windows according to your directions.
@@HTGGeorge I couldn't find the tabs in "Edit" to set up floating windows, so I'm guessing that's Windows specific; or perhaps Elements 2020 doesn't include that feature. In fact, the 2020 version looks quite a bit different from your Elements 15 demo; so I'm guessing a lot has changed. Any chance you'd do an update for Elements 2020?
@@debraschaeffer3096 Hi Debra, actually Elements 2020 is almost exactly like Elements 15, very little has changed except for an annoying welcome screen that always pops up. The Floating Document Window option is still available in the Edit Preferences so it may be a Windows only thing. I tried doing a search on Google for the info but Google just shows me my own videos and info and I don't know. Guess I really should get a Mac one of these days. If my Minecraft videos begin to take off I will be able to do that.
@@HTGGeorge Either there's something I don't know about my computer or "Edit Preferences" is only in Windows software, "cause I can't find that anywhere! And when I query "floating document window," nothing comes up to answer my question. But thanks for following up to let me know that the two versions aren't all that different. I'm guessing it's an OS thing.
@@debraschaeffer3096 Hi Debra, look in the Edit Menu, near the bottom for Preferences. That may be the problem. There is no Edit Preferences, but instead Preferences is in the Edit Menu
Hi John, the Mac market just isn't large enough for us to do new mastering and manufacturing for Mac DVDs (only 8% of the market is Macs). That's why we have the Online version, works with all computers. Actually we will be discontinuing the DVDs within the next 2-3 years as the DVD format is slowly going away. At that point we will be exclusively Online.
Its been years since I looked at PSE 14 but I do seem to remember that floating windows worked there. Here is how to set up floating document windows ruclips.net/video/X26Ga4j4O9w/видео.html
Help Please. I have the same problem. Adobe Premiere 11, I can see the picture in pause but when I go playback it goes White. Suddenly happened when turning the PC back on. Any Help? Bueller ? .... Bueller ? Any one?
MY ELEMENTS HAS CHOKED ON MAC! I have PS elements 2020. I can no longer upload TIFF files. Adobe Help has told me the latest IOS version Monterey 12.0.1 is not compatible with PSE. This includes PSE 2022. Specs are only macOS 10.15 or macOS 11. They suggested I downgrade to previous IOS version as they have not got around to testing with Monterey. They may find a fix for 2022 but no promises a fix coming for 2020. They suggested I download PSE 2022 trial - Also didn't work. My parting comment to Adobe help was that I have owned PSE 2020 for only 1 year and already redundant. As apple often upgrade their operating system PSE 2022 will soon be incompatible with the next newer version of IOS. WTF. This is amazingly slack from such a big company. Amazed they have not even bothered to test with the latest IOS AND they have produced such an unstable package with zero support. BE WARNED!
Wow, lots of the same comment on several videos. Of course my usual answer is why are you using a Mac? I've never liked Macs, even when I had to use them for work. In any case Adobe builds their programs for Windows and then converts them for use on the Mac so the Mac version is frequently out of date or not fully compatible. But I agree, if they are going to sell a Mac version then should make sure it works correctly on a Mac. One more thing, Adobe farms out the programming for PSE to India, it isn't done here in the US, and I do get tired of Adobe stealing my ideas for their updates. All the updates in 2019 were just Guided Edit versions of my projects from my 2018 training course.
@@HTGGeorge Thank you for the link. But, I found it MUCH EASIER & FASTER to open the Photo Editor from the Home Screen, and then go down to the Task Bar. You will see 2 Photoshop Elements Icons, one being the Home Screen, and the other the Photo Editor. If you click on either icon, you are given the option to "Pin to Taskbar," or "Close Screen." I chose to Pin the Photo Editor to my taskbar, and then closed the Home screen. Now, I just go down to the taskbar and click the icon when I want Photoshop Elements. No copying, dragging, or hassle.
@@mozempire5096 Good tip, two comments for anyone else reading this. You need to Right click on the icon in the Windows taskbar to bring up the option to pin to the taskbar, and this will not put a run icon on the deskdop, only on the taskbar. Good option though if that is what you are looking for. Personally I need the program to run from the desktop and not the taskbar as that is already full with other stuff.
Video is out of date- Within first 5 min two things don't apply to PSE 2021. Stopped watching. Don't mislead people if you want to build a following. Update your video or don't label it for 2021.
@@HTGGeorge Nope there is no more eLive either - so when 2 things were outdated in the first five minutes I felt it was "misleading" to label the video for 2021. I do like your content and hence this is just feedback. TRUST is really important these days and I am pointing out to you if you want your viewers trust then make sure you note things that aren't current in the notes or somewhere plainly obvious. Don't just update the date. Again this is just feedback, not good or bad, right or wrong.
@@HTGGeorge I finished watching and you do a very nice job with these. Hoping you can note changes in the future and not just slap a new date on the title. Thanks.
@@Stinsonddog I always appreciate constructive criticism, always room for improvement. This year I have been going through and removing all the version dates from my videos. That was mostly an attempt to keep the views going on the videos as Photoshop Elements is a dying niche on RUclips. I expect within a couple of years it won't be worth the time to do Photoshop Elements videos any more, too bad, that is my favorite editing program. Affinity Photo is a growing market and I am starting to do some testing on more general niches like Photography not tied to a specific program, we will see how that goes.
@@HTGGeorge That's interesting as I just discovered that PSE's expert mode is just like PS, plus you have Quick and Guided too. Just getting back into all of this after a break (think CS6). I will be looking at more of your videos.
You know, doing nonsense comments really won't help your RUclips presence. On RUclips, comment count really doesn't matter anymore. Now it is all about click through and watch time, so thumbnails and titles are really important and keeping people watching as long as possible is also really important, everything else just doesn't matter.
Most people say I take too long. In the RUclips player bottom right corner there is a gear icon, start the video then click on that gear. It will let you play the video at a slower speed.

I want to take your Complete course for Photoshop Elements but I just purchased Elements 2021 will you have a 2021 course???
Hi Patrice, I am coming out with my new 2021 training in a couple of weeks but it is mostly the same as my current 2020 training. Very little has changed between versions, just some new features that I am showcasing in a RUclips video going up this evening
Which utube video do you recommend for me to learn how to set up a card template for printing greeting cards?

Going to buy pse do you suggest also getting the video editing as well for a little more money. This will be my first time using this program so am super excited and like how you explain things
Hi April, if you think that having the video editing will be useful then getting the two programs together is a good savings.
George
Thanks for updating via your more recent video on how to get rid of the "home screen", which is very annoying.
You're welcome, that is the first thing I do when I install a new version of PSE.
Thanks for the reply, but I was talking about the ability to create a picture of the design on a t-shirt before putting it on the actual t-shirt

George,
I was so happy to learn a trick for turning off the Welcome Screen, so I can go right to edit.
Is your training video to purchase made and is specifically for the photo elements 2021?
I have a different version of the training for each version of Photoshop Elements
Do you recommend buying just the download or also the disc for my Mac ?
Hi April, my DVDs are Windows only so if you have a Mac the Online is the way to go.

George
I wanted to take your course so I went to your web page, but didn't find any hyperlinks to allow me to sign up.
www.georgepeirson.com/photoshop-elements-online-courses/, scroll down the page and the different courses are listed near the bottom
Will the training course for 2021 be good for elements 2020? I don't think my 2011 27" Mac will run 2021 edition?
I have a different course for 2020, here is the link georgepeirson.com/pse2020/

Thank you for the good advise! The tutorials you have are awesome, I can't wait to get into my photos!

Can the Videos in the full training course be downloaded and viewed offline
No, the online training course cannot be downloaded
Hi George, I just purchased PSE 2020. Although I’ve saved and enjoyed Very Much all your PAE 2019 tutes, I haven’t yet taken the time to master it. I’m pretty much an old lady beginner. Could I hire you on a personal consult basis to teach me PSE 2020?
Hi Bonnie, I am sorry but I don't do personal consulting. The best way to learn Photoshop Elements is with my training course: www.georgepeirson.com/photoshop-elements-online-courses/

How To Gurus Many thanks!!
Why have I not seen this information anywhere on the web/YT - it’s important to know?
So, many thanks for your response.

Tip#1 on welcome screen doesn't work on PE 2020. there is no settings icon
You are a good teacher I just subscribe. Is it possible to make a video of how to do a thumbnail for RUclips. Thanks
Great Idea, I will do one of those this week.
Thanks.
Hi, open the Window menu and near the bottom make sure that Panel Bin is checked, then click on Layers
Thanks George. I am still using PE13 is it worth updating to 15? Many thanks for your great tutorials.
Here is my video on the top new features in PSE 15: ruclips.net/video/Ry2neECNquA/видео.html

Thanks again George. Looks like I'll be investing in PE15 very soon.
Hi, If you can hold out until the end of October I would recommend it. Adobe releases their new versions in October, I don't know if they are coming out with a PSE 16 this year or not, but if they do it will be released in October.
George
Will do. Thanks George.
First thing I tried was to change the Welcome Screen. Cant find any option to do tjis so failed immediately! I have Elements 2021
Hi Jim, Adobe removed that option a few years ago, after I recorded this video.

I have never used Photoshop, does the (paid) course teach the BASICS?
Hi, this video is about Photoshop Elements, which is different from Adobe Photoshop. Both are from Adobe but they are different programs. But to answer your question, all of my training courses start with the very basics and are designed for people who are new to the program.
I'm trying to learn how to use Elements 2020 on a Mac. Are your instructions for Windows only? For example, it doesn't look like I can set up floating windows according to your directions.
Hi Debra, most of my videos should work fine on a Mac. Unfortunately I don't have a Mac so I really can't speak about specifics.
When will you serve the needs of the Mac owner for the 2020 DVD's
Hi John, the Mac market just isn't large enough for us to do new mastering and manufacturing for Mac DVDs (only 8% of the market is Macs). That's why we have the Online version, works with all computers. Actually we will be discontinuing the DVDs within the next 2-3 years as the DVD format is slowly going away. At that point we will be exclusively Online.

TIP #1 does NOT WORK in Elements 2020. You can no longer skip the Home Screen.
You are right, but there is a work around and of course I have a video on that, here it is ruclips.net/video/NU7sapsdolw/видео.html
If you click on either icon, you are given the option to "Pin to Taskbar," or "Close Screen."
I chose to Pin the Photo Editor to my taskbar, and then closed the Home screen.
You are almost right, the program now starts differently, but aside from that everything in the video applies to 2021.

This is how you go from beginner to power user, by learning these easy tricks
