Hello Mr Robin !! I keep my E-M1 Mk II... Bought only two years ago... Not finish to explore it... No waste money is necessary in a mad world of professional photography !!! But i understand the shutter therapy... Take care, from Luberon, South of France... !
As an Olympus fan, I worry about the lack of development/improvement in M43 sensor technology. We are getting a 2016 sensor in 2020. I was expecting something new, some BSI or stacked 24 megapixel sensor with noise improvements.
And it is up to Sony to bring a new MFT sensor. Afaik they brought a 34mp and a 47mp sensor. Those are not good for EM1, since they are to slow at readout. EM1 is all about speed. Second thing is, with a new sensor the X whould be completely obsolete. I think they introduce the new sensor in the next iteration of X.
@@DeepteshLovesTECH Actually not quite. APS-C and MFT differences are very slim these days. If you look at the dynamic range and ISO performance, currently only Fuji APS-C sensors are worth investing. Both Sony a6000 series and MFT sensors have nearly identical dynamic range and ISO performance.
Great video! My Em1 Mark III just got delivered this morning and I have been shooting with it all day....in my back yard.😆 Coming from the Em5 Mark II, the Em1 III is a night and day improvement!! Thank you for all your videos. I have just upgraded to the OMD MIII from MI. The video is very helpful in pointing out the upgrades which is huge from the original.
I realy love my Olympus OMD 1 mark II. I use Canon 6d II in my office and my olympus at home and I choose my olympus for everything. I am videographer too and use for profissional jobs. 4 years between mark II and III to have what? starry Sky? better stabilization, ND, facedetection? And don't feel to need to upgrade and Olympus can easily give ND and facedetection to mark II with firmare. The Panasonic G9 are great camera. Ugly but great. Olympus must to "give" more in 4 years! I love my OMD ;)
First time I saw the live ND in a video. Very impressive feature. Oly is very ingenious with all this high tech shooting modes. Handheld Highres is also unbelievable. What a brilliant tech.
Nice video. Clearly, Olympus is just back tracking the mistake they made with the "X" model. I think the only people who bought those are the RUclipsrs. This should have been the offering they made to begin with. I look forward to the "mark II" going down in price. It is still one of the great video and still combination camera.

You`ve conveyd the quality and fun of Olympus cameras very well. You give grat advices to use them a n d tpis for more creativity to be a better photograph. THANK YOU...for all you work/effort!!!
Hi Robin, I’ve followed you for years and it’s great to see you in front of the camera. I am an em1 original user but have now moved to Fuji. Your videos make me miss shooting my Oly. I was worried for Olympus for a while... seems it’s stil going strong.
Thanks Robin! I'm probably about to pull the trigger on an EM1 Mark III and just trying to justify the cost to myself... you really sell it, and cover the important features really well. I'm incredibly excited to upgrade from a EM5 Mark I :)
Olympus did some things very right with the EM1-X, and I think they should buld on that. 1. The menus. These are cameras with A LOT of features. The EM1-X have a great feature, the "Star" menu where you can put your most used functions. I would like Olympus to expand on that thinking! Imagine if you could connect your camera to a PC or MAC and run a setup program on your big screen! You could open a "function browser" and list one meny to the left and your the Star-menu to the right. Then just use the mouse to drag and drop funtions from all submenus to your favourite Star-menu. Then to go even further, What if you could drag and drop functions to functionbuttons as well. Imagine the possibilities! And what if each C1, C2, and so on could be setup this way in separate tabs, like a browser. And you could save them to your PC. Then You could make a library of setups for your camera. You could even share your favourite setups, others could download them and look at them in the PC first, and if the like what they see they push it to the camera. It goes without saying that this would be a fantastic feature for professionals with two or three cameras. They could set one up and the push the settings out so easily to the others. The setups could also be named. I would like to see in the viewfinder or om the screen what settings have been high priority when switching between C1, C2 and so on. Imagine turning the mode dial to C1 and have the label "Wild Life High ISO" shown for 5 sec in the upper part of the screen as a label. Or "Wedding with flash" or "Handheld highres landscape". Whatever you named your settings... My point is, the menysystem feels bad and cramped because we can omly see it on a 3" screen. I belive Olympus could really do something uniqe with this! 2. A larger and more high-res viewfinder, PLEASE! The EM1-X was on my "to buy" list until I saw the viewfinder. Amazing optics but still a low resolution viewfinder, and with poor contrast. Why? The EM1-X was supposed to be that M43 flagship that could rival pro-cameras from other brands. To be fair, I love my EM1-mk2, but since I use glasses and have a severe optical fault in my eyes, I have been envious of the great viewfinders in Panasonic G9, GH5 and Fuji XT3. I almost switched camera because of this but I waited for the rumored Pro-camera. The next camera from Olympus better have a great viewfinder or I will switch. 3. Tehthered shooting with a phone or ipad using a USB-cable. I would love it if Olympus allowed you to use your phone with an instant, and lagfree cableconnection, to your phone or ipad. I have a problem with small screens and would love that. 4. Olympus should create a library of Ai-funtions and super updates with Video and photo functions. It costs money to program updates, why not charge a small fee for some of them? Like animal tracking? I would happily pay 4.99$ to get fantastic birdtracking! What if I could download it in my Olympus browser (see point 1 above) and push it out to my camera? Olympus is pioneering the use of software to replace hardware. We have live ND-filter up to 5 stops. Some people might want to pay 2.99$ for the option to go 10 stops? Or pay 2.99$ to activate waveforms when shooting video. What I am saying here is, cameras are now so good, they don´t need replacing every year. That is bad for camera sales. But if each sold camera could be a potential source for income during all of it´s lifecycle, the company would not bleed money. There are a lot of cameras out there. 5 SIZE! The EM1-X have brilliant ergonomics with both vertical and horizontal grip and controls. Like the twin thumbsticks. But the next camera need to have the option to remove the vertical grip! On the other hand, the EM1-mk3 could have gotten a truly great batterygrip like that, but instead it uses the same grip from EM1-mk2, and in doing that it looses out on some functions. I see the need to save money but I still think it was a missed opportunity. A good batterygrip could be more expensive if it houses a good set of ports. If the camera itself only have a micro hdmi socket, the grip could add a full size HDMI socket. Even if the body have Mic in and Headphone out, having optional sockets on the grip could vastly improve the workflow for videographers. I would love to work on a cameracompany and think up stuff like this. It would be so much fun!
Ideas for future videos for Robin: 1. more how to set up Olympus specific... you have done some tips but when Olympus loans you M1X for example what setup do you do to get it ready? and 2. you mentioned being a video nube, but learning. I have no clue how to dive into that and want to learn myself. Would love if you would share your experience and how you are diving into your learning there.
Still got the dilemma of Fuji V Olympus, the older sensor is a concern for longevity, but some of the features are sooo tempting, like the live ND filter and astrophotography! XT4 or Olympus MK3.......I just don't know, can you convince me?
Yeaaaah My Menu! Initially I was very sceptical, it was looking like a very minor upgrade. The lack of new sensor, viewfinder, screen and two UHS-II slots is killing me, but for my style of shooting the Face & Eye AF tracking for photo and video is a great change and for that alone, I may upgrade my beloved E-M1 Mark II.
As for the sync IS: apparently the 7.5 stops are achieved at 100mm, that may be the reason why you did not notice a difference at a short focal length. Generally IBIS is more effective at short focal lengths while in-lens IS at longer focal lengths. In Combination they cover the whole range, apparently with different effectiveness for each focal length.
Thanks Robin! great round -up! Lots of tasty upgrades especially now they have finally included Auto ISO in video manual mod! Yes!!! that's a game changer as it was missing in the other models😁👏👏👏👏
Hi Robin, Great to see inclusion of "my menu", the High Res handheld mode and joystick (which I wish was on the mark 2). The venerable 20 MPixel Sony IMX270 sensor used by Olympus is still a very good performing sensor in 2020, since sensor development is already nearing theoretical limits. For astro the inclusion of starry AF is nice, but to be honest I've never had any trouble using SAF on stars with the em1 mk2. What would have been very nice is the ability to do some type of rudimentary star tracking using the IBIS. My biggest problem, however, is the introductory price here in Australia at $3000 with the 12-45 f4 lens coming in at $1000. No doubt this is early adopter pricing and costs will come down soon. For comparison the em1 mk2 is around $1900 and the 12-40 2.8 lens is down around $630 in Australia.
Yes, not all shots need to be of star trails! I agree that it seems that the IBIS could be adapted to extend the time that a star field stays registered. Also I agree that this 1mkIII might finally be enough of a jump that I can justify the upgrade, once the early adopter pricing wears off. But that could be a long wait, the mkII took about a year before it dropped.
You will laugh at me, but I intend to by an E M1 MkIII soon. Why? Because I have loved the MkII so much and the OM1 is way too pricey. I have had 3 MkII cameras, and the 400,000 images on the shutter of the MkIII will be a godsend. Thanks for all you do. Love your videos.
Hi. Do you feel that the upgrade to mark 3 from mark 2 is worth the considerable increase in price. I'm trying to decide if I should go from mark 1 to mark 2 or mark 3. Thank you
@@paperback10 I have to say I have yet to buy a MkIII, I am so happy with the MkII I have stayed put. Look for a low mileage one with a good guarantee. Just my thoughts.
I have been waiting for this camera to come out. Now when the price of the Mk2 used plummets below £300 I will get one. I bought the EM1 for £275 and it has served me well.
Robin, OMG!!!! Olympus announces the release of the new OMD E-M1 Mark III,,, looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you in the coming months!!! Robert in San Diego, Ca. USA
Looks like Olympus' cost cutting programme has constrained their ability to deliver a truly competitive upgrade rather than the mark III (which is a very good iteration on the mk II). it really needed a significant EVF upgrade and both card slots taking the fast SDs. GPS also.
Hi Robin, Great review. Thank you for it. I notice in all of your video's, you shoot with exposure compensation -0,3. I learned to expose to the right. Why do you use the -0,3?
I really enjoy your videos and enthusiasm! This video was great. I see several comments here critiquing Olympus and MFT. I think they should enjoy whatever system they have, which I'm sure are very good, and the Olympus fans will do the same. Thanks again. Always look forward to your videos!
Hi Robin. Great video clip as always. I tried the EM1iii at my camera shop in London with an Olympus Guru !! Yes great camera. I will wait for the release of the 150 - 400mm super telephoto lens particularly with the improved stabilisation on the mark iii before considering upgrading my old EM1. As I have the EM1 ii no rush. Hoping the lens will be available before June when I go to Transylvania on a wildlife trip.
Thank you for your precious reviews I’ve just bought my first Olympus, an E-M5 mark II, I will use it for my work as a teacher (small films) an for my hobby... do you think I did a wrong purchase as it is an old camera? It is beatiful piece of design and I love it vero much!
The E-M1 Mark III is a Lamborghini ! Not everybody needs one. It will take you a while to outgrow all of the features you have in the E-M5 Mark II, so don't feel bad about your purchase. I own the E-M5 Mark II and even though I would just love to upgrade to this latest one, I cannot justify it by adding a lot of features that I won't use. But it sure is tempting ;-)
Spec wise, this mkIII may look like modest upgrade and I am sure there will be lots of people asking more mpx, different viewfinder etc. Personally, I am finding changes in new mkIII are nice and very welcome, of course we always want more ;) but we have got same excellent, ergonomic body, official IPX1 rating. Joystick is added after feedback from EM1X. 20mpx is plenty for all general purposes, HiRes is there too. And really, really improved face, eye tracking. Robin, thanks a lot for good and right to point review. And as always, great pictures of lady! Very stylish dress goes so well with backgrounds.
@@photosvein people always find something to complain about ;) Personally, I am still impressed everytime when I am looking on images from EM1mkII, and I mean it not from artistic point of view, not all my photos are keepers, have a long way to learn but from technical prospective. Sensor, sharpness, colors, noise all above my expectations. That really bothered me is slowish face/eye tracking and judging by Robin's video they addressed it very well. And I know it is not easy, how much computational power is required, so only welcome all these touch ups to great already excellent camera. Actually, not a camera but system in general.
@@photosvein People always want more that's just human nature. People also just like to bitch. Was personally surprised no 2 x UHS ll card slots and a clean up of the menus. That was very achievable.
@@peterlemke3468 yes, actually you are right about second UHS II, they changed processor, so entire production line was going through adjustment, they could replace slot (interface). Dropping and reorganizing menus, I think it is bigger task. Because it is system it better be consistent, so I would rather do upgrade of menu system on entire lineup but it is significantly bigger task. At the same time, personally I think, existing menu system has its own quirks new one will have another ones ;)
Hi Robin, I've been watching your great videos for several years. You are great. They live in the middle of Europe in the Czech Republic. I take pictures professionally - now M1-III. Thank you very much. In the news from around the world, I saw a report from Kuala Lumpur - the great floods. Are you okay? Take care of yourself. Karel
Most people expected a new image sensor in order to upgrade. Looks like Olympus has reached the limit in IQ and will stay at this point for at least 3-4 years... till EM1 mk4
While the envy of Sony 61mp sensors is understandable, and I was hoping for a new sensor too, the current M43 sensor will hardly be a limiting factor in a photographer's ability to capture stunning images. Will a better sensor improve your photography? Those needing uncompromised pixel peeping image quality in special situations should probably go for medium format, or (if they cannot afford it) settle for full frame.
@@tizio54 there is no envy for 61mp but for better high iso, noise etc. You don't update easily to get the same IQ. My EM1.2 is already a great camera but I needed something more in order to update.
@@YannisSinadinos agree, better high iso, noise, etc would be good reasons for people to consider M43 rather than FF. While it would be nice to have the EM 1.3, I see little justification in spending around $€£ 1000 to trade in my EM1.2 for an EM1.3. It would a more interesting option if one is looking for a second EM 1 body ... but then the EM 5.3 is also interesting, or even an EM1X which has come down in price quite a lot recently (£1799 at Amazon.co.uk). But in all cases, same IQ.
Robin, The Return Address for returning that EM1 MkIII to Olympus Malaysia is: Rick Bear c/o GATETHORN Avondale ... So please be sure you send it to the abovementioned address, and NOT to Olympus Malaysia. Good man, Rick Bear
I agree. Since its launch Olympus has progressively made the EM1X irrelevant, first by firmware update of mkII and then by effectively releasing the same camera in a lighter, cheaper body. Thanks Olympus.
@@wildcat1065 Yes it does feel a bit like that. The 1X still has a much better body in my view and a better shutter, plus the better layout of buttons. Hopefully a full firmware update will come soon bringing the new features from the Mk 3. At present, I can't really see why they bother making both.
Hello Mr. Wong, I would like to say that I always love your videos. Packed with so much information. I'm really thinking about purchasing this camera to add to my Drone company. The great thing as well, my drone can use the same lens that I use on this camera... It's a win win.... Thank you so much sir...
❤️ I have it since two days and it became instantly my favourite system. The M.Zuiko 60mm 2.8 Macro and the M.Zuiko Pro 10-40 2.8 are the lenses I need for that what is my intention to use it for.
The first brand that enticed me to start photography as a hobby. It's so sad to know that they're out of business now. I hope that they could bounce back soon.
Dear Robin, Many thanks for the thorough review, hope that you could spare some time to compare the OMD EM1 Mark III to the OMD EM 1 X Camera showing the differences. However; still the Olympus OMD pro Lens series is far ahead better, when compared to all other competitors in M43 Cameras, concerning optical quality and durability with its weather sealed, dust proof, splash proof and freeze proof capabilities.
Thanks for your work. Great job. I got the E-M1 III a month ago and loves this camera after 5 OM-D E-M5's. The only thing is the use of a field monitor. That works great, but not for photography. All bracketing function will be disabeled when you put the monitor on. did you know why this is?
Why? Why? Why did Olympus use 2 different card slots? One is for UHD II and the other is for UHD 1. I REALLY wanted to purchase this MK III but this issue is a deal breaker for me. I just don't understand why they decided to not allow the use of 2 UHD II cards. Please help me understand. Thanks!
Professional / knowledgeable as ever Robin. The MkIII looks like a great step up. It is a shame about the sensor, but there are still many more advancements that will put the MkIII on my future buy list.
tizio54 Sony makes the sensors for almost all cameras now days. That sensor is not that long since it was announced, the 1-3 most likely have been in work longer, I guess for at least as long as the 1x, so it makes sense they did not use that sensor. Maybe on the 1-x2 or 1-4
Mr. Wong, what is your opinion on the OM-D E-M1 Mark III vs OM-D E-M1X if size is not an option? In a direct comparison the newer processor vs. older dual processors and other capabilities... do you think Olympus will come out with an OM-D E-M1X Mark II soon? What do you see as pros and cons of the two cameras? Will Olympus update firmware on the OM-D E-M1 Mark III with features they do not offer on OM-D E-M1X?
I would like to upgrade to the OM-D E-M1 Mark III from Mark II for Starry Sky AF, will my old Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO Lens work well for the Sky AF or do I need to get a different lens?
Hi Robin, could Olympus update their multiple exposure mode from 2 exposures, to 2-10 exposures on a single frame. They certainly have the processing power to do so. This would mean a lot to me, as I like to do “in camera” in the field multiple exposures for creative, impressionistic photographs. Include this feature in a firmware update? I miss doing with my new Olympus cameras. Thanks for any response, Stephen
Why is it that after watching one of your videos I always want to go out and buy whatever it is that you've been reviewing. This is no exception but funds don't cover desires. And, well, I'd have difficulty explaining away a fifth OMD body to my nearest and dearest! One question that covers all of my OMD bodies, if I leave the shutter permanently in Silent mode, will this give me problems at a later date? Again, thanks Robin, I continue to be a great fan. 👍👍👍
Hi Robin - great video. The strength of your videos is your depth of knowledge of the OM-D system, so your comparison comments are always so detailed and useful. Keep up the great work. 👍👏👊 This is a modest upgrade, in my view, compared to the M1.2. It is not possible to justify the upgrade, for me. The AF joystick, AF point customisation, hand-held hi- res shot, live ND filters and USB charging are the headline acts IMO but are not significant enough to make the investment (and a significant one at that) justifiable. I was also hopeful of a new sensor, with improved low-light performance. Although I’m not sure how much further the MFT sensor can go. Is Truepix IX a game changer? I don’t know... I’d lean towards no given the lack of/minor improvement in overall performance. I think they missed the mark in not upgrading the EVF given where the competition is at already, let alone where it will end up in the next 3+ years. How is the joystick operation? I have not used this camera or the EM-1X, which I assume is the same. Is there any lag? Can you move diagonally? I shoot mostly wildlife and this would be a great feature so I don’t have to use ‘nose’ AF on the touchscreen. I tried the G9 out of interest last year and found it very unresponsive and no diagonal movement. In Australia right now, the Panasonic G9 is $1750, the E-M1.2 is $2200 and the new camera is $3000. I think this price point is will likely kill it, unfortunately. As an aside, I think the new lens is an odd choice, given the existence of the very good 12-40 f2.8. What are your thoughts? Cheers, Craig
Yes you can move the AF joystick diagonally, no issue with that, and there is no lag when toggling the focusing points. Whether the camera is worth it or not, that is a very subjective topic. I do see it as an upgrade over the E-M1 Mark II.
Robin, I really enjoyed your practical descriptions of the Mark iii features. I was wondering how well will the facial and eye locking features would work on animal subjects? Thanks. TMT
I like Olympus OM-Ds. This camera seems like a very good upgrade from the Mark II except for the viewfinder remaining the same. I wonder why they did that?
Robin. I have a problem with the shutter button. Randomly when I press the shutter button the camera takes 2 pictures in rapid succession instead of just the one picture. Have you heard of others having this problem and is it something that can be fixed?
Hi Robin, i am considering to buy the Em1 III because my photography is going a more professional direction... i shoot jpeg and raw. Do the .Orf files need an upgrade in lightroom/ photoshop? And is the OM1 noticably better or would you recommend the EM1 III?
Thanks for another nice initial review. Wonder if they have improved the glue holding the grip rubber on? The only disapointment for me is it looks like they kept the old tripod socket location as larger plates may block the battery door.
I am still working on the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-45mm F4 PRO lens review, it is coming up real soon, the next one, I promise!

This should have been the offering they made to begin with. I look forward to the "mark II" going down in price. It is still one of the great video and still combination camera.
The E-M1 Mark III is quite an interesting camera. Will make a few more videos to discuss this camera soon.
Dear Robin, I would like to thank you for all the great Olympus videos. I now own a 1 Mark III - being very satisfied. Withot your videos I haven`t buy it. You`ve conveyd the quality and fun of Olympus cameras very well. You give grat advices to use them a n d tpis for more creativity to be a better photograph. THANK YOU...for all you work/effort!!!
The yellow damselfly was beautiful! Thank you for your excellent videos.
It was an experience seeing it for the first time in my life!
Great review and lots of awesome pictures. Thanks, Robin.
Thanks Matti! Come back to KL there are new spots to shoot now!

Hi Robin, I’ve followed you for years and it’s great to see you in front of the camera. I am an em1 original user but have now moved to Fuji. Your videos make me miss shooting my Oly. I was worried for Olympus for a while... seems it’s stil going strong.
Olympus has a long road ahead, though the road may not be smooth and easy
Thanks Robin! I'm probably about to pull the trigger on an EM1 Mark III and just trying to justify the cost to myself... you really sell it, and cover the important features really well. I'm incredibly excited to upgrade from a EM5 Mark I :)
Thanks Robin for this informative first look!
My pleasure doing the review
I wish i have my menu on the OMD EM1 M2. Great 👍 Video by the way. Yoa are a realy nice person. Greatings from Germany 🇩🇪
Thanks for the kind words.
I will second that comment about the battery. It is excellent and I get similar number of shots per charge as you do using the Mark 2
The battery life is amazing indeed
Ideas for future videos for Robin: 1. more how to set up Olympus specific... you have done some tips but when Olympus loans you M1X for example what setup do you do to get it ready? and 2. you mentioned being a video nube, but learning. I have no clue how to dive into that and want to learn myself. Would love if you would share your experience and how you are diving into your learning there.
Your honesty is priceless.
Thanks, appreciate that
Good stuff. I like the new position of the menu button. Waiting your thoughts on the 12-45mm f4.
Thanks, working hard on the 12-45mm F4 PRO. How about you? When will you release your video? Friday I guess?
@@robinwong Yes, on Friday the usual time.
I want the My Menu to be in ALL olympus cameras
Yeah me too, but for now looks like a feature reserved for the PRO cameras...
finally good camera.
Nice Robin, thanks! I just recently got an EM1 mark 2!
Thanks
As for the sync IS: apparently the 7.5 stops are achieved at 100mm, that may be the reason why you did not notice a difference at a short focal length. Generally IBIS is more effective at short focal lengths while in-lens IS at longer focal lengths. In Combination they cover the whole range, apparently with different effectiveness for each focal length.
Thanks, Carmen!
Thanks Robin! great round -up! Lots of tasty upgrades especially now they have finally included Auto ISO in video manual mod! Yes!!! that's a game changer as it was missing in the other models😁👏👏👏👏
I thought that was worth a mention as well, something many other reviewers/early impressions left out
YES!!! That’s great and I haven’t heard that anywhere else.
Those shots came out beautifully.
Thanks! Appreciate that
Hi Robin, Great to see inclusion of "my menu", the High Res handheld mode and joystick (which I wish was on the mark 2).
6:05 Specs on Olympus page says the EVF has same magnification than E-M1mk2, not the same as E-M1X
Thanks for pointing that error out. I genuinely thought it was the E-M1X's EVF. My mistake. Shall amend the description accordingly.
Robin, nice first hand review. I am so disappointed with the obsolete 20mpx sensor.
Nice review. I'm looking to change my Sony A7III to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark iii mainly due to ergonomics and price of lenses.
Thanks for the kind words. Wow, enjoy that wildlife trip, take more photos!
I shot on the EM5 MKII for years. Awesome camera. Super rugged too!
The my menu needs to be an added update to all of there cameras.
I agree!
Agree and more ND too
I have a old Olympus bridge with internal ND....
Mike Freider to be blunt, people are already on other videos comments bitching about no new evf, screen, sensor, etc :-/
Peter Lemke yup, was expecting two fast slots too.
Thanks Robin for a very interesting and honest review! I always enjoy your videos.
With the 4 year old sensor, screen and EVF, your task wasn't easy but you have done a good job as an Olympus promoter. Thank you.
Thanks, I always do my best
Hi Robin, I've been watching your great videos for several years. You are great. They live in the middle of Europe in the Czech Republic. I take pictures professionally - now M1-III. Thank you very much.
In the news from around the world, I saw a report from Kuala Lumpur - the great floods. Are you okay? Take care of yourself. Karel
Wow amazing camera, like this I want saving some money every month to buy this camera 😁
Thanks Robin for the informative video. It looks like a great iteration of the Em1 even though the same sensor, I will definitely take the upgrade!
Go for it

Good info, I have the EM1- MarkII and think there’s not enough difference to get the Mark III
Great review, clear, concise and informative.
Thanks!
Thank you very much, very helpful and informative, with no waffle! 👍👍😊
I do hope that the Starry Sky AF comes to the 1X via firmware. The 1X has been a bit neglected since launch!
I hope that happens too.
Olympus make camera,s not rumors👍👍👍
Well said!
Great Tutorial Video Robin! Thank You!
Hello Mr. Wong, I would like to say that I always love your videos. Packed with so much information. I'm really thinking about purchasing this camera to add to my Drone company. The great thing as well, my drone can use the same lens that I use on this camera... It's a win win.... Thank you so much sir...
So for me i will stay with E-M1 Mark 1, this is like mark 2.5, more interested in the 12-45mm f4 pro.
Love the coffee comment hahaha. Great camera and love your style and videos Robin :)
They're not out of business though? OM Digital lives on. And they can even use the Olympus brand name for many years to come.
Dear Robin,
Many thanks for the thorough review, hope that you could spare some time to compare the OMD EM1 Mark III to the OMD EM 1 X Camera showing the differences. However; still the Olympus OMD pro Lens series is far ahead better, when compared to all other competitors in M43 Cameras, concerning optical quality and durability with its weather sealed, dust proof, splash proof and freeze proof capabilities.
Great review.
I love my e-m1 mark 2.
Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words.
Didn't say that back in November ? - Olympus would introduce the E-M1 mk3 in 2020, not back down and close the camera division !.
Love your reviews. Buying one next week
totally agree that Oly needs to update the image sensor, maybe they should adopt the sony's m43
Sony does not have Micro Four Thirds camera.
@@robinwong I think Johnny is referring to a Sony built sensor. (there's a 41mp sensor out there, 8k capable)
tizio54 Sony makes the sensors for almost all cameras now days.

Thank you Robin
Cheers
Does it track animal "faces" as well? It's interesting how smart it is.
Nope, no animal tracking at the moment
Hi Robin - great video. The strength of your videos is your depth of knowledge of the OM-D system, so your comparison comments are always so detailed and useful. Keep up the great work. 👍👏👊
This is a modest upgrade, in my view, compared to the M1.2.
Cheers,
Craig
Yes you can move the AF joystick diagonally, no issue with that, and there is no lag when toggling the focusing points.
Whether the camera is worth it or not, that is a very subjective topic. I do see it as an upgrade over the E-M1 Mark II.
Robin, I really enjoyed your practical descriptions of the Mark iii features. I was wondering how well will the facial and eye locking features would work on animal subjects? Thanks. TMT
They won't work with animals. Thanks for the kind words
Awesome review!
Informative and entertaining!

Thanks for the kind words!
I like Olympus OM-Ds. This camera seems like a very good upgrade from the Mark II except for the viewfinder remaining the same. I wonder why they did that?
I honestly don't know why
Robin. I have a problem with the shutter button. Randomly when I press the shutter button the camera takes 2 pictures in rapid succession instead of just the one picture. Have you heard of others having this problem and is it something that can be fixed?
Well done, Robin! Thank you!

Hi Robin, i am considering to buy the Em1 III because my photography is going a more professional direction... i shoot jpeg and raw. Do the .Orf files need an upgrade in lightroom/ photoshop? And is the OM1 noticably better or would you recommend the EM1 III?
As always, great video review, thanks Robin :-)

Thanks for another nice initial review.
Wonder if they have improved the glue holding the grip rubber on?
The only disapointment for me is it looks like they kept the old tripod socket location as larger plates may block the battery door.
