An interesting thing about Dhawan is that he is not naturally gifted like Rohit sharma nor has as consistent as kohli before 2019 but he compensated with resourceful and street smart batting. His presence and the ability to upset the rhythm of the bowlers by his attacking batting made him a force to reckon with
I remember even today the thumb injury in ICC CWC 2019 match against Australia where he even scored century costed his carrer 😢 that one injury changed his career
THough he developed/got found out against the short ball on bouncier tracks, his experience and spirit was admirable. Despite numerous off-field challenges,he continued scoring and in his latter years, aquitted himself admirably captaining the team. Excellent opener;got a raw deal from the powers to be.Should have received a farewell game.
Dhawan's returns in ODIs diminished significantly after 2019 WC... In 37 ODIs since that tournament, he averaged 41 @ 81 SR with 12 fifties, these aren't good numbers in current times... These numbers are even poor in 2022, where he averaged 34 @ 74 SR from 22 ODIs... In comparison, Gill performed superbly in ODIs post 2019 WC, 60 avg & 102 SR with 6 centuries & 13 fifties from 45 ODIs... Also Dhawan was in the wrong side of 30s... All these being said, he should be greatly respected for stepping up almost everytime whenever there was a ODI tournament...
Lodu go see Rohit's numbers after 2019. I understand that gill was in better form compared to Dhawan. But when you have an unfit liability in the team, it isn't necessarily fair to drop the only guy who performed well in knock out matches in a team full of chokers
Dhawan knew his strengths and scored when it mattered more often than not. Even in the WC 2015 semifinals he scored 86 or so. The 2013 champions trophy and the Future Cup against Australia changed Dhawan's as well as Indian cricket for the new few years with incredible top 3!
I remember the 185 like it was yesterday. He got out on a soft dismissal as well, a stupid catch at short leg. One of the most exhilarating batsmen I’ve seen bat. Never realised I’d look back at that BGT and the champions trophy as golden days. Just to point out, both these series (BGT and CT2013) were also Jadeja’s magnum opus. He fully established himself into the scene as a premier second spinner along with being one of the best fielders in the game and a good batsman.
There was a need to redevelop the team after 2017 ct final loss in Eng as 2019 CWC was in England . Very few players like gill , Ajinkya were given chances at the top . Rishabh Pant played very few odi matches before 2019 CWC. And kohli dropped kedar ,Ambati for Dinesh Karthik . I don't understand how dinesh was given chance in 2022 T20 WC after this much
I personally think Dhawan's downfall was actually due to Virat's bad form since both Virat and Dhawan were struggling post lockdown when cricket resumed and the team couldn't afford to back two top order batters who are struggling to get their form back and the management probably decided to back Kohli due to his numbers and how big of a brand he is. The streets will never forget his contribution.
@@abhishekn9871 I understand your argument, Virat is the greatest odi batsman of this generation and no one is close to him and that's the reason you can't compare him to anyone. I'm just saying if Virat was in the form he was pre 2020, Dhawan might have got the backing he deserved considering his performance in icc tournaments, where he was better than both virat and Rohit, specially odi
@Spectre-kl3js Dhawan was poor in ODIs in entire 2022 & moreover he's more than 1.5yrs elder than Sharma & almost 3 yrs elder than Kohli which worked against him... Also the rise of Gill in ODIs shut the door against him...
@@abhishekn9871 dhawan scored around 600 runs in odi in 2022 with an avg of more than 30 and SR of 75 in 22 innings Virat scored around 300 runs in odi in 2022 with an avg of 27 and SR of 87 in 11 innings
Another fact is that when Rohit, Shikhar and Virat used to be the top 3, the middle order was becoming weaker as they weren't getting chances to bat.. remember the no. 4 problem..
No many a times India dominated in bilateral odi so kohli needs to be demoted to no 5/ 6. So that middle order gets match practise . Dhoni would never do that . And kohli would never drop ms dhoni . Kohli would never drop Rohit Sharma . And now Rohit Sharma never drops kohli . Long running cycle
Please make a video on how kohli , shastri duo is the worst captain coach combination in icc tournaments . Dropped umesh yadav in ct 2017 , dropped shami , kedar , Rayudu in 2019 , dropped siraj in 2021 wtc , didn't select siraj in 2021 wtc , didn't select Ishan in 2021 T20 WC . Promoted hardik in 2017 ct group stage match against pak at no 4 and demoted him in final against pak at no 7 . Sends Ms dhoni at no 7 in 2019 cwc sf .

The 2013 champions trophy with Dhawan and Rohit as openers was so pleasing to the eyes

one of the best batting performances by this trio was the run chase against australia in 2013 chased some 340 runs in 37 overs .

So dhawan made me a spoiled brat about top order contributing prblms we're facing now...very informative man great work.
Gabbar deserves a movie on his career as well as because of his personality and personal life he is a person with pure heart and zero heaters ❤❤❤❤❤
He is mr icc respectfully so . Sad he was axed due to age factor after 2020. We would have a blast of a start if we had shrikar in 2023 wc .
Joke of the day... Dhawan could neither hit boundaries nor rotate strike like he used to at his prime... He was rightfully discarded... Stop crying...

Good old times when Dhawan played under Ponting for DC ❤
I miss dhawan. Very less players are likeable, play so well and a team man. He was one.
Hope you make video on Ashwin and Umesh Yadav

@sachal1691 not did kohli, nor did rohit
@Spectre-kl3js check Kohli's numbers in ODIs after 2019 WC & compare that with Dhawan...

That is ms dhoni problem . He should promote and demote players according like Sourav Ganguly did
When you had a really good top 3 to make it with somebody like a Kedar Jadhav and Hardik later, it was not a big problem

701 runs in 10 matches
He is just 90 runs short to become the most runs scored in Champions Trophy!

That's a great (but controversial) statement bro! 😅
Such a video may put an end to the channel by fan armies (iykyk) 😐😅
2017 ct is a disgrace . Many matches were washed out due to rain .
2:56 Oh my god, I’ve not heard Unmukt Chand’s name in a long long time. Wonder what he’s upto these days.
If a team progresses to finals of ranji trophy , how many matches does it play ???
Really nice video
Glad you liked it!
Gabbar Forever!!!
We need big match players like dhawan and not stats padders .
Average more than Kohli and Rohit in ICC ODI Tournaments .
Very slightly more than Kohli...
Bcci should push for day matches in 2025 ct to avoid due issues in dubai
